Juliette Lewis for The Edit Magazine

Posted on February 28, 2014

The clothes in this shoot are absolutely adorable and suit Miss Juliette to a T. Which would be surprising to anyone who stopped paying attention to her ten years ago, because nobody back in her wild child days could have predicted she’d be looking so fabulous in super-girly high fashion retro styles at this stage in her life.

Juliette-Lewis-The-Edit-Magazine-Tom-Lorenzo-Site-TLO (1)Juliette Lewis covers The Edit magazine photographed by Victor Demarchelier and styled by Karina Givargisoff.

On her outlook at life at the age of 40: “At 40, my eyes are open and excited by designers in a different way. I didn’t lean on that side of myself when I was younger.”

On her band: “It was a real big thing to jump off the acting bandwagon. I always liken it to cutting the umbilical cord. In my six years on the road, I was fully committed and created a real fan base for my music. The music we’re generating is fresh but it’s rooted in soul-driven rock’n’roll-the kind of music that gets into your spirit.”

On her role in “August: Osage County”: “It was a really rewarding, wild experience. When you work with the best, there’s such beauty in it. It’s what you hope for in this business and you get a handful of times. I’m old enough now to appreciate that.”

Adorable. But – and we hate to say this because we love her so – she needs some posing lessons. You can only cock your head so many times, you know?

I love her. She guest judges on Drag Race, and she was really good and underrated in August: Ausage County.

The posing is a little JC Penny’s catalog, but she’s working it.

    • boweryboy

Her role was so small in A:OC that I thought it was a waste of her talent.

    • anneland

Also, the set styling makes it look super catalog.

      • decormaven

Yes! Some variation in the set styling would be much appreciated.

  • Mrs. Julien

I’m just so grateful for all the flats.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

      Some serious Audrey Realness.

    • fursa_saida

I LOVED THAT. Not just as a variation; I also think it really suits her.

  • @Biting Panda

Love her. Want her to be my girlfriend.

  • SC_in_DC

    Very Audrey Hepburn.

  • Anna

Very pretty. Serving up major Audrey Hepburn, especially in the photo of her sitting down.

  • mshesterp

LOVE the B&W Erdem in the cover. So very her. I find her just delightful now (20 years ago, I thought she was a bit of a wing nut). Quirky with polish.

  • Glam Dixie

That posing, ack – it is bad.The clothes are just so so for me, they seem a bit young for her except for the last one. Apparently she doesn’t do heels, or maybe it was the stylist but either way she is rocking the flats so good for her.

  • Grumpy Girl

These outfits look so lovely, and I, too, am delighted with the flats–they are so nice, yet don’t look like the generic ballet flats. I would want to wear most of this (excepting the white dress and the strapless–but not because they are less attractive . . just not what I would wear.) .

  • Pennymac

These are all adorable! I love her and appreciate her films, but I confess that the first thing I always think of is “Audrey” in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation when I see her. I even hear her disparaging teenage voice in my head. Sigh. I’m so pedestrian.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

She looks awesome!!! Love all these looks. WERQ. :)

  • Laura Abrahamsen

First dress is fantastic on her. I think the Giambattista Valli belongs on your niece Kiernan.

  • MilaXX

Nice! Even more surprising is she’s wearing flats in all these shots. My fave it the black sweater, ivory skit combo.

    • AmeliaEve

Yes! Loving the flats in these.

    • SierraDelta

The skirt’s Peter Pilotto, and I can’t believe I covet it.

      • decormaven

Had that same reaction. That is a very cute skirt.

  • Bebe

With the Oscars this weekend I’ve seen a couple of “Remember this?” posts featuring her, Brad Pitt, and a very bad corn row ‘do. So funny to compare that with this shoot! She’s all groweds up!

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Best Drag Race judge ever. Cannot wait to see what she wears to the Oscars.

  • SRQkitten

Y’know looking at her in some of these pictures I think Julian Fellows should have cast her as Cora’s younger sister. There’s a bit of a look there. She could be Cora’s younger sister who’d understand Edith.

  • Jessica Freeman

She’s 40?! Hot damn! I always forget she was in the Goonies as a teenager. Golly girl. You got it going on!

    • @Biting Panda

That was Martha Plimpton. If she’s in it too, I don’t recall.

      • Jessica Freeman

Public Service Announcement: Do not drink wine and post or you will forget who is who in movies from the 80’s and post it on TLo for the world to see.

        • @Biting Panda

          To the shaming corner!!

    • Nexli B

You’re thinking of Martha Plimpton. Who is also looking damn good for 40-something. Gen X-ers rockin it!

      • Griffinqueen

        High-fivin’ a million grungy angels!

  • KinoEye

For some reason, the cover doesn’t look very much like her to me. Didn’t have that problem with the rest of the shots, in which she’s absolutely adorable. But she’s a stranger on the cover.

    • kimmeister

She’s looking like a cross between Jennifer Garner and Mary Lynn Rajskub here.

  • mjude

    she looks great.

  • Heather

I would kill someone for that Peter Pilotto skirt.

  • artgirl9

It’s nice to see the chic flats on her feet

  • uprightcitizen

Couldn’t she and Sarah Paulsen play sisters … and Kyra Sedgwick? They all have such similar features.

    • http://www.paolathomas.com/ PaolaT

Agreed. It’s the photographer’s job to pose the subject correctly and get the shot somehow – though obviously some models make it easier than others. That shot in the Erdem dress where it looks like she has a broken neck is ATROCIOUS. Is Victor related to Patrick?

      • uprightcitizen

I see what you mean about that shot. I took it that she was dancing … because that’s kind of what you would do with your head, mid-boogie. But several of the heads look like they were Photoshopped onto other body shots. And the white background doesn’t help. The only pic I really like is the one of her sitting on the floor with the black sweater and pewter skirt. That’s a sweet shot that captures a little something about her.

  • Trickytrisha

Sorry, because I like her a lot, but these photos are just not worthy. Yes the clothes are great, but the styling is practically non-existent, giving her nothing to work with. Too much fail on Edit’s part.

  • Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

    So cute!

  • ojosazules

These photographs seem like she’s posing for a catalogue. She’s lovely and the clothes are lovely, but the photographs are totally lackluster.

  • HeatherMcIlrath

The picture of her sitting down is by far my favorite. love the styling! that last one with the stool is awkward though for sure

  • macwell

I love her more than ever here. I liked her in her wild child day, almost the same I liked Drew Barrymoore, but they both seem to have grown into their ages very well.

  • Griffinqueen

She’s like Zooey Deschanel, but with crazy!

  • Gatto Nero

These are great looks on her — and I love that she’s wearing flats!

  • Tanya Wade

I just adore her and am so happy she’s happy. Also, I love the use of flats in this editorial. Why not be adorable and beautiful AND comfortable!?

  • Leah Elzinga

Wow slap some eyeliner on her and her and Jennifer Garner could be sisters!

  • Shawn EH

    Sexiest flower girl ever!

  • msdamselfly

    Love the flats!

  • marlie

She looks great in just about every look. And it’s says something about her that she’s able to make a couple of standard “pretty girl” dresses stand out.

  • luludexter

I love everything here: the clothes, the hair and makeup, the shoes – it’s so nice to see flats for a change!

    • LaSylphide

Exactly what I was thinking about seeing flats.

  • shaziz

She looks AH- MAZE-ING and she’s crazy talented. A true original. Serving up modern day Aurdey Hepburn!

  • GoAwayKardash

I lerve her. Always have. Always will.

  • jilly_d

I’m going to type something I never thought would even enter my brain: I really, really want that Peter Pilotto skirt. Also Juliette looks cute. Anyone else getting shades of Chloe O’Brian in the face there?

  • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

    The SHOES

  • stellamaris73

The sweater/skirt shot is just divine.

  • icm

    she looks adorable

  • bertkeeter

  • Jacob Bowen

This is a whole lot of my favorite kind of crazy in a FANTASTIC, FABULOUS way! This is how you make Peter Pilotto work, as a separate with a SIMPLE top!

  • SierraDelta

She and Margaret Colin always seem as if they should be related.

    • quiltrx

I agree, and let’s throw Elizabeth Perkins in there.

  • suzq

If the posing is wrong, I blame the photographer, not the model.

  • Pablo

She looks great, the cover is specially beautiful

  • CPK1

posing is very one dimensional but she looks gorgeous in the clothes. Love the Erdem dress from the cover.

  • ashtangajunkie

I am always happy to see Juliette Lewis. The photos leave a lot to be desired, but Lewis and the clothes look wonderful.

  • lalahartma

    She is looking fantastic.

  • LaSylphide

Love her. She looks best, I think, in clean, low-key designs; definitely not the frou-frou type. Adore that sweater/skirt: very simple and very feminine.

  • Chickadeep

I admit to having a bit of a retro-fashion bias (I was into vintage as a teenager, long before it was a fashion thing), but these are LOVELY on her. I am even liking a Peter Pilotto skirt, which is saying something. Only one I don’t like is the Giambattista Valli, which is a little too First Communion for me,.

  • Amy

Nice clothes. You should also post the one with Jennifer Connelly, that one was nice too.

  • Little_Olive

A bit JCrew catalog, but she looks great nonetheless.
