Joel Kinnaman in Ermenegildo Zegna at the “Robocop” Stockholm Premiere

Posted on February 07, 2014

Cute guy in a rich suit. It’s what we’re all about here at the T Lo Institute for Wasting Time When You Should Be Doing Something More Important.

Joel Kinnaman attends the premiere of ‘Robocop’ at Rigoletto in Stockholm, Sweden in Ermenegildo Zegna.

Ermenegildo Zegna Spring 2013 Collection

We don’t know, you guys. We love that this is full of color – and that the colors are beautiful – but we’re not loving the guy trend for so much darkness in their suits. There’s no contrast anywhere. We realize that just comes down to taste and preference, though. If it were us, we’d put him in a much lighter shirt.

Serious kudos to him for wearing a proper pair of dress shoes. It’s embarrassing sometimes how few male stars can manage that.

  • Very pretty indeed. 🙂

  • Glam Dixie

I love the suit, but it looks too big? Is that just me? The dress shoes are perfect, agree the shirt and tie are too dark. Also maybe just me but he looks like his mom cut his hair. Wasting time is my middle name, Uncles, I’ve been putting off folding clothes for 2 hours.

    • It looks a little oversized to me too.

    • pookiesmom

I’m not sure if it’s the angle or what, but he definitely seems to be drowning in that jacket.

    • Laura Renee

No, it definitely looks huge to me too. Distractingly so.

    • didgerdoni

I’ve actually been tilting my monitor back and forth, trying to see if there are shadows or something that’s making it look so roomy in the mid-section. I’ve come to no conclusion. And I should probably move on with my life.

    • MilaXX

Just posted the same thing about the jacket

    • kirkyo

Macy’s suit department sales guy from the 90s.

    • littlemac8

OMG, his hair looks great to me. I first saw him on The Killing for three seasons of long greasy hair! This is a breath of fresh air! 🙂

  • I wish he would have gone for that great electric blue shirt. Otherwise, this reminds me of shopping for a Homecoming dress at JC Penny’s in 1995.

    • Janet B

My prom date had a tux in that color, back in 1979!

      • Janet, you are a lucky, lucky woman to have that detail in your life!

      • Anna

  • Kathy

Not a waste of time at all. 😉

  • sagecreek

I don’t approve of the remake, but he looks good. You know, in a shiny European kind of way.

    • formerlyAnon

Ha. It does look good on him, yes? I have to admit I feel a little sleazy about it when I admire someone in that look. (Probably because in my generation I only saw that look on spoiled assh–es and those whose lives revolved around cocaine (occasionally they weren’t even the same people)).

    • kimmeister

My husband keeps hollering about how “we gotta see that!” every time a commercial comes on for the remake. Then again, he wants to see almost everything that comes out, even the LEGO movie.

      • demidaemon

He sounds like he has very discerning taste.

      • shirab

Must report that I just saw the Lego movie (husband and two boys insisted) and it was very enjoyable! Go see that one to be a sport and then you can skip something truly terrible as a reward.

  • Jessica Freeman

I really love the color of that suit, and it’s a shame its so dark where he is that it isn’t coming through.

  • @Biting Panda

Maybe I’ve got #SochiProblems on the brain, but all I’m getting is Russian Mafia thug.

    • Mismarker

I knew that was you, annabelle archer.

    • formerlyAnon

The haircut contributes, but he’s got a bit of that Russian look. With a narrower and rounder chin and different bite (and really, who knows what anyone’s was before orthodontia, anymore?) He’d also be a dead ringer for the better looking guys on the Polish side of my family. Who supposedly ended up where they were because of Russian pogroms, so the genetic mix is anyone’s guess.

      • Jecca2244

Same with my family! I haven’t met anyone with the same back story…Russians jews that ended up in Poland before coming to Boston..immigration even had them change our last name to make it Polish.

        • formerlyAnon

Our family history is so entirely word of mouth as to be anecdotal, but I bet there are more such stories than you hear – after all, Russia owned/claimed/occupied every square inch of what’s now Poland at least a couple of times between 1850 and 1910, parts of it more often. My mom’s family has one of those names whose spelling depends entirely on which immigration official one got at port of entry. But we ended up Catholic by the time we hit the states. Many young people from my grandfather’s village/town emigrated right around 1900, and OTHER family’s stories held that my great grandfather or his father opportunistically converted while fleeing from one part of the geography to another. The only confirmation of the story is the fact that pogroms do figure in the family story as the reason why they ended up in the town from which my grandfather emigrated and that my grandfather would neither confirm nor deny the conversion story – apparently his stock response if one of his kids asked was: “What does it matter? Believe in God.” And if pressed: “What? You want me to go ask the priest to tell you? You know you were baptized Catholic, and what church we go to.”

          • Jecca2244

Literally, same story!! So awesomely crazy.

    • MilaXX

I know there’s loads of not so great stuff happening but the opening ceremony was great

      • Jacob Bowen

How have you seen the opening ceremony already?!?!

        • Guest

I watched a live stream on BBC

        • MilaXX

I found a live stream of the BBC airing. NBC tape delays for prime time viewing . Except for one snafu it’s really nice. It will be interesting to compare coverage. Especially since NBC will kill us with commercials

  • Kind of weird how he matches the backdrop almost perfectly. It’s making him look like a tiny head floating in space.

  • YoungSally

Love that color — I have some yarn in that shade…and would love to get my hair that shade, too.

  • marlie

I like the suit! This time around, I don’t mind the darker shirt and tie. Maybe it’s because they’re the same color as each other, and in the same color family as the suit. He doesn’t float my boat, and I’m completely indifferent on the remake, but he looks good.

  • Imasewsure

I can’t see too much of his looks since the photo is so dark on my screen but I love the looks on the models and the color in the closer shot. Agreed on too much dark on dark though! Look how amazing that jacket is with the blue shirt (or the plaid one… even better!!)

  • formerlyAnon

I LOVE that suit. I want to roll around in that color. I think a just-darker-than-pastel shirt might have been nice, but I wouldn’t quibble if ignored.

I can see from some angles that it might be a skosh roomy in the torso (though that doesn’t bother me much), but it seems to fit in the shoulders which is much more important, IMO. I realize I’m talking as if he bought it off the rack and couldn’t get alterations done – but doesn’t that seem to be how most of the ladies at his level wear their borrowed red carpet clothes? Is it any better for the guys?

  • formerlyAnon

Also, re: T Lo Institute for Wasting Time When You Should Be Doing Something More Important.
I am SO happy to have the official name nailed down. My improvised nomenclature generally includes the term “Procrastination” but that is sufficiently covered.

    • Anna

I prefer the official name to “Procrastination” too. Has a much more fantastic ring to it.

    • Alyssa

I will shorten it to just the T Lo Institute, if anyone asks what I’m doing! 🙂

      • Anna

Good call. I’ve decided the next time I’m assigned a project I don’t really want to do, I’m going to say, “Can’t. I’m swamped with my correspondence courses at the T Lo institute, sorry.”

        • formerlyAnon

          You’re brilliant.

          • Anna

Aww, thanks :). Maybe I’ll actually say it on a last week of work one day.

  • Janet B

I can’t think of anything better to do at the moment than look at Joel, wasting time? Nope!

  • Mismarker

I am one of the two people who watched The Killing. Nice to see Joel Kinnaman in something other than Detective Holder’s puffer coat and puddle jeans. Looking good. I cannot, however, sign off on this RoboCop remake. RC will forever be Peter Weller!

    • Gatto Nero

I’m the other person who watched it.

      • Mismarker

Why, hello! Looking forward to the 4th season on Netflix. So nice of them to be putting it together just for us!

        • Gatto Nero

Yes! The writing’s flawed, but the acting is good — Mirielle and Joel are fun to watch.

  • Anna

Meh on the suit. But the body underneath and the face, I would not kick out of bed.

  • carnush

    Yes please.

  • MilaXX

Is it me or does the jacket look a little large?

    • mjude

you are correct. david bryne jacket….same as it ever was

    • Gatto Nero

It does seem more fitted on the model.

  • AnniNoone

Yum. And that may be the first time I’ve ever said that about someone wrapped in a shiny suit.

  • Sarah Thomas

…so he’s cute, then? Apparently I’m getting old.

  • HM3

Now how come this is cool, but Michael B. Jordan wasn’t? Both were pretty spiffy…although I’d agree, both should be wearing a lighter shirt color.

  • throwaneyeonthis

Sometimes I think it is all about context. Dark on dark suit in Stockholm in February seems appropriate. But then again, Detective Holder from The Killing can do no wrong in my book.

  • Danielle

Excuse me, uncles, but I’m not wasting time here. Judging celebrity fashion IS important!

  • yethica

    *le sigh* so pretty…

  • SRQkitten

It’s what we’re all about here at the T Lo Institute for Wasting Time When You Should Be Doing Something More Important.

Yes, and don’t you know that is why we love you! I don’t know how I would have survived the dissertation desert without my dear uncles to assist me in advanced time wasting!

  • Zaftiguana

I don’t think the shirt was right and it makes him a look a little more Eastern European Mobster than he may have been going for, but I applaud the attempt all the same.

  • boweryboy

The shoes are the sexiest thing about this…

  • webslice33

    well done !

  • Sobaika

Can I just tell y’all that I started The Killing because of this guy and the BKs and he looks like trash personified on the show and I am INTO IT.

    • formerlyAnon

      This interests me . . .

Time to check out The Killing. I haven’t had a new t.v. crush in quite a while.

  • TobiannReinhard

“T Lo Institute for Wasting Time When You Should Be Doing Something More Important” – BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
As for the suit…I’m with you. The dark shirt and tie are not doing this gorgeous suit any favors.

  • MzzPants

Alan Cummings should have picked this for his last red carpet foray. With a crazy ass shirt and some Frankenshoes.

  • Gatto Nero

I like the dark on dark in this case. He’s one of the few who can carry it off.

  • BobStPaul

The jacket is too large for him and that in combination with the skinny leg trousers makes the outfit ill-proportioned on him. I too would have preferred a lighter shirt.

  • ShaoLinKitten

The long Zegna coat on the model is total coat porn. Uhn. I don’t know who this Joel Kinnaman is, but he is cute.

  • Jacob Bowen

He is SUPER sexy…like a little naughty sexy, and I am TOTALLY into him in this suit (with a slightly smaller jacket fit). I could waste ALL my time looking at pictures of him!

  • KT

  • Milos Mom

It is not flattering on his body in the least bit. The body of the jacket is WAY too big. And then the black shirt with the midnight tie…. Just not working to impress. Shame. I like the fabric and color of the suit personally.

  • kimmeister

This color is apparently harder to wear than I realized. Bradley Cooper didn’t look good in a coat in a similar color the other day, and it’s not doing much for this guy either. But that could be, in part, due to him blending into the dark backdrop.

  • littlestars

I like the suit, but find his haircut distractingly awful.

  • Trickytrisha

Holy cow, he cleans up nice. Love the suit, him, everything. He looked so scruffy in The Killing that we weren’t able to bask in the glory of all that is Joel.

  • Aidan B

LOVE this merlot color, but agreed, a lighter shirt is needed. Tailor this a bit better, add a white shirt and I’d be swooning.

  • CatherineRhodes

I love it, every bit of it.

  • demidaemon

That suit jacket looks huge on him. However, I could stare at his face forever.

  • LaSylphide

Personally, I love that dark shirt and tie look with a dark suit, especially this one. I don’t think a lighter shirt would work with this at all. And give him 20 years and he’ll age into even more gorgeousness.

  • Joanie

There’s a reason some songs more emotive, fuller, more expressive than others: because you have peaks and you have rests. Men putting together a look/suit would do well to think of a great song and take note (yeah, pun intended) of how the tension within a good song makes it special. By mixing up the look a bit, they can create more impact. Of course, sometimes you simply need house music with an unrelenting beat or a dirge to get you from point A to point B.
Kinnaman looks great, but he could look even more fantastic with a bit of tweaking here and there.

  • RuthGo

Why does he look so thick around the middle?
