Jared Leto in Saint Laurent at the 2014 Oscars Nominees Luncheon

Posted on February 11, 2014

Once again, totally not our style at all, or even a style we respond to all that well, but…

“Dallas Buyers Club” star Jared Leto attends the 86th Oscars Nominees Luncheon in Beverly Hills, California in Saint Laurent.

Saint Laurent Spring 2014 Collection

Even we can’t deny that’s chic. He’s taken his own style and ramped it up to Couture levels without sacrificing a thing. We can’t help but applaud that. We do wish he’d stop wearing his jackets a size too small. We realize it’s part of the aesthetic, but that’s the one part we wish he’d ditch when he’s wearing jackets that cost as much as large mortgage payment.

LOVE IT, even if it does give him child-bearing hips when the jacket is buttoned.

  • That last pic makes me wish I was in high school so I could post it up on my locker. Menefreghista!

    • ConnieBV

No kidding. Angela Chase wasn’t the only one with a crush.

      • luluransom

I will never, NEVER get over my crush on Jordan Catellano 🙂

        • Kimmu

Neither will I. I just looked at these pictures and sighed

          • EiEiOh

The recent JL posts caused me to dig out my MSCL DVDs and watch them last weekend. Such a good show. And Jordan Catalano was ever so dreamy.

    • Aurumgirl

I’ve always wanted Menefreghista to be my avatar name. Now, I’m just glad I have someone to share that particular kind of sentiment with!

    • MartyBellerMask

I liked him, but I was more into Brian Krakow.
Okay, I lie, I actually had a crush on Rickie Vasquez.

  • kimmeister

This is a rare time when I actually like the fact that the blond ends of his hair coordinate with the gold of the jacket.

  • Every time I see this guy, I make an epic Liz Lemon eyeroll. However, I would dig this outfit on a different guy.

  • Jaeda Laurez

I love that jacket, even at smedium and him, even with bronzer at half-Christina. Really want this slipper/fancy loafer thing to die though. Not a fan.

    • Tatiana Luján

I love the slipper/fancy loafer thing on him.

    • AudreysMom

agreed. Genie slippers. Great color on the socks, though.

  • NMMagpie

I can’t deny it: love those purple socks.

    • kimmeister

I’m liking the purple socks more than the fuchsia pocket square.

  • marlie

He’s definitely making that jacket work. I only wish that he wasn’t wearing a pink pocket square and purple socks. But the jacket and shoes are tons of fun.

  • Judy_S

    He is just soooo pretty.

    • newleaf1

He has a perfect face, which makes me wish he would pull his hair back more often…i love to look at that face.

      • Rhonda Shore

His face is so lovely that he even looks great with that hair! And he was truly great in Dallas Buyers Club. (And I loved that the character had pictures of Marc Bolan everywhere!)

        • AnneElliot

He and Matthew McConaughey were both wonderful. I always found MM a little douchey but I was really impressed.

          • Rhonda Shore

I heard that MM was also great in “Mud,” which i keep meaning to stream. I believe Mud was a 2012 release.

    • calliope321

I am not a fan of his face but I do like the outfit. It looks good on him. I’ve never understood why some people find him pretty. He is not to me.

      • formerlyAnon

See, I think he is pretty – too pretty to be attractive. But to each their own.

        • Constant Reader

I agree. He veers into Too Pretty territory for me, too. Guys like that tend to get less pretty and more sexy as they age, though (see also: Johnny Depp) so we shall see.

    • KinoEye

The thing I noticed most in these pictures is that he has really, really pretty skin. It just looks so healthy and moisturized, tan without being too much or too obvious.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

I have one thing in common with Jared Leto. Neither of us have waistlines. Both for the same reasons: Ice cream. He doesn’t have a waist line because he doesn’t ever eat ice cream. I don’t have a waist line because I never stop eating ice cream.

However, I LOVE his socks and shoes here. Those socks are pissy suave.

  • CatherineRhodes

    Also: neck beard.

  • Jacob Bowen

I LOVE the idea of the pop of purple in the sock and I have NEVER met a sparkly slipper that I don’t want!!!

  • KinoEye

Every 70s prog-rock band called. They want their hair back. Bruno Mars also called. He said the Temptations called him, and they really need that jacket back ASAP.

  • Alyssa Ball

His hair is a better verison of the subtle (and not on purpose) ombre that I’m currently rocking and I don’t know how to feel about that. Love the jacket though.

    • golden_valley

I hope you keep your hair brushed. He’d look better if he did.

  • SugarSnap108

    I’m really digging his feet.

  • Jessica Freeman

I have a friend that forced me to watch him perform and I was shocked. Boy can sang. Anyways, I like this on him, even if I don’t love those purple socks.

  • formerlyAnon

I can’t add a thing to your critique. Agree on all points.

I lied. The hair. I LOOOOOVE long hair, o.k.? But with that ensemble it shouldn’t be Todd Rundgren long hair (slightly under-combed, real-person-like). It should be America album cover long hair (sleek, smooth, damn near cast in plastic to keep it perfect.)

    • sagecreek

Agreed…and I’d argue that you can do the long hair or the stubble, but probably not both successfully.

    • demidaemon

To me, it looks a bit overproducted (that’s a word, goddamn it!). I also like longer hair on my men, but I don’t want to be running my hands through gel, shine, etc.

      • formerlyAnon

Over or under, I can’t tell – but totally agree on all points. (Including that for fashion blog purposes, overproducted is a legit word. Whatever my spelling program thinks.)

  • another_laura

It really does work for him. But I wish he would shave his neck, anyway.

  • WildHyacinth2

I actually would love it all if the jacket wasn’t so tight when buttoned. But overall my inner fifteen year old is just getting a major kick out of the fact that Jared “Jordan Catalano” Leto is actually on the Oscar circuit.

  • Rachel

I wish he would stop fighting the hot. it’s wonderful that you are genetically blessed, Jared!
Also, obsessed with that jacket and his feet.

  • Anna

Jacket is reminding me of my old Glitter and Gold Jem and Rio dolls. I kinda dig that about it.

    • marlie

      OMG, JEM!

      • Anna

I unashamedly still watch whenever it comes on the retro cartoon channel (which is the only cartoon channel as far as I’m concerned).

        • bxbourgie

Glamour and Glitter, Fashion and Fame, Jem is Truly Outrageous! I’m a religious watcher.

Jared could certainly be Rio in this ensemble if he has shorter purple-er hair and nixed the neck beard. He is so so nice to look at though. So pretty. So skinny.

          • Anna

Nice! Rio was one of the loves of my 8-year-old life.

Jared is a bit too skinny for my tastes and I’m not into the neck beard either but I do love the face.

        • Alloy Jane

          • Anna

Pretty sure I’ve seen it listed on Netflix. We have a retro cartoon channel in Canada so that’s where I’ve seen it.

  • PeggyOC

He is a poster boy for my firmly held belief that 99% of guys with long hair don’t actually look good in it, and definitely don’t look as good as they THINK they look in it.

    • demidaemon

I have to disagree, as I think long hair can look great on a lot of men, but it needs the same TLC the ladies give their hair. Men are not predisposed to do this, however.

      • alyce1213

I agree. The problem is mostly haircare. If a man commits to long hair, he’s gotta put in the work to look good. (That includes an occasional trim for the scragglies.)

  • Sif

Love the jimmy choo glitter sloan slipper and the SL jacket. The individual items are great, but the overall look is tortured. There is no focus. The socks and the slippers are battling out each other. at the end of the day, it’s all about taste level.

  • JasmineAM

Glam rock Jesus! I love it.

    • NBG

      OMG, cannot unsee now!

    • Denise Alden

Nailed it! Against all reason and what I usually find attractive in men, I find him very arresting.

      • Kent Roby

Yes, you just said “nailed it” in response to a Jesus reference! Love it!

        • Denise Alden

Oh, how I wish I could take credit for that! 🙂

  • NBG

Love the shoes but I think he could have gotten a better effect with a less focus-pulling sock.

And I just used the phrase “focus-pulling sock” in a sentence. Is that some kind of Bitter Kitten rite of passage? Because it feels like it should be one.

    • MannahattaMamma

I don’t know you or if you’ve just become a real BK, but focus-pulling sock is like the best phrase ever and I plan to use it constantly. At my next department meeting, for instance when someone is blabbing on about something, I’ll say “we need more focus-pulling socks next term,” and everyone will applaud.

      • formerlyAnon

I’m sure your phone can video or audio capture that. Make it so.

    • kimmeister

When you feel that special tingle, that’s when you know.

  • Belvane

He’s got a sort of 19th century aesthetic going on, under that hipster veneer. The nipped waist goes along with that, if you squint.

  • jonnyf8

This makes me happy. That’s all.

  • ThaliaMenninger

    Lounge Lizard Couture.

  • TAGinMO

Jennifer Aniston could really use a shave.

    • nowlo

Actually, I think Aniston could pull this off. It would be a nice change of pace for her.

      • TAGinMO

It’d definitely be a welcome departure from the sequined bath towel.

Bonus: They’re probably the same size.

    • Contralto

This post wins the internet. Everyone go home.

      • kimmeister

I’m glad my boss went to lunch because I am literally weeping with laughter.

  • lynnlee

I’m I the only one who thinks he’s creepy? What the Hell is going on with his eyes? In all his recent pics he’s got serial killer eyes. Is it make-up? Surgery? Is is high? I don’t remember them looking like that back in his Jordan Catalano days.

    • StillGary

it could just be hunger 😉

    • Alloy Jane

The pole dance makes for long hours, plus he does a million things on the side. He’s very meticulous businessman.

But yeah, he’s creepy. He’s friends with that shit Terry Richardson, so that should tell you exactly how creepy he is.

  • seelebrennt

he’s such a good looking man, but that hair hurts my feelings.

  • msdamselfly

Looks like he’s feeling the “Hollywood glamour” thing

  • Betsy

It’s a cool look but I can’t take a guy with Ombre hair all that seriously.

    • formerlyAnon

The color of the hair high on his head is so lack luster that surely he’s just growing out some bleaching, that topmost color SURELY isn’t chosen on purpose??

  • Rand Ortega

    A size up & I would’ve fainted after 2 snaps. My, but he’s a PYT.

    • bxbourgie

Except he’s not so young but still looks like a PYT which is a marvel. I applaud his dermatologist and whatever unicorn tears he or she is injecting him with.

      • Rand Ortega

        Amirite? 42? Whuuuuut?

        • Alloy Jane

And. AND. He’s strapping a big one. There is a Love Line interview with him and his brother where they’re talking to a guy with a massive cock who is having trouble finding girls who aren’t afraid of it. If memory serves correctly, it is spectacularly hilarious.

          • Rand Ortega

(picks jaw off the ground) Great. Now I’m gonna spend the rest of the night looking for this. Thanks for nothin’, Alloy Jane! LOL! Seriously, thanks, Alloy Jane!

          • formerlyAnon

That’s what I love about this blog. It leads me to culture.

(Though really, I’d have enjoyed more if you hadn’t shared above that he’s buds with Terry Richardson. Takes the bloom off the rose.)

  • KarenFK

An article in EW today quotes him as saying this about the Oscar poledance: “I don’t dress up very much. I don’t wear a lot of suits or sports jackets, but you have to have a little fun with it and you want to feel like yourself. Not like your agent.” If that’s his goal, this certainly qualifies.

  • Thomas Jones

I don’t care. The way he played Rayon in Dallas Buyer’s Club makes me blind to any sartorial issues.

    • decormaven

That was a heckuva performance. Fingers crossed!

  • demidaemon

It definitely looks better unbuttoned, though I am irrationally jealous of his waistline.

    • formerlyAnon

One of the huge advantages of a couple of extra decades is that with the visceral acceptance of the fact that we’re all gonna be dead a long time and probably sooner than we’d prefer, comes the acceptance of a more relaxed place on the balance between a sylph-like figure and enjoying eating. Yes, I was once very, very thin, and it looked good. Perfectly happy carrying more weight and being able to eat real meals.

      • demidaemon

I hope I can remember that in the near future. Was going to say something about judgementalness and dating here, but I will save that for when I don’t feel like everyone is a shallow bitch.

        • formerlyAnon

Well, there is a lot of shallow out there. We’ve all got our share. There are people who want a certain look or status markers – money/job/clothes/etc. in their romantic interests and [to be crude] won’t deviate from that unless it’s the only way to get sex and will never fully value a partner that doesn’t have whatever it is they’re hung up on. And not everyone grows out of it. And then there are plenty of good guys out there who aren’t the *right* good guys for one. It’s not easy. Until the right one comes along and it seems like it is. Good luck.

          • demidaemon

Thanks. It’s something you know intellectually but maybe not emotionally, if you understand what I’m saying. It’s slight Valentine’s week woes, slight just general irritation. However, I’m taking TLo’s advice and treating myself this weekend, and I’ve got some prompts to write poetry about my last shitty BF, so I’m sure I’ll be over this by next TLounge.

          • SierraDelta

I know it’s no help when the holiday-induced miseries seize you, but I think you have an amazing mind. You’re witty and smart and observant, and you still have a generous tolerance for your students, no matter how fickle they are, which is pretty impressive.

Treat yourself with kindness this weekend — you need it and you deserve it. Write bitter raw poetry and then burn it to exorcise the memory of the unworthy troglodyte who’s sent you plummeting. We’ll be here to welcome you back when you’re your customary snarky self.

          • demidaemon

            I LOVE YOU GUYS!

Pfft, like I could stay away that long.

  • nowlo

His style is very reminiscent of Russell Brand’s. I don’t mind at all–a little lounge lizard glitz is always more fun than a dark suit. I just wish he’d shave his neck.

  • teensmom99

Not a fan of the hair & I wish he’d wear a jacket that fits but I gotta say that other than that, he’s nailed it.

    • Candigirl1968

Yup – it would be nice if he got a trim. There is a fine line between rock and roll and scraggly.
I appreciate that he has given thought to “his look” and makes the effort.

  • MilaXX

I like it! He”s wearing the lounge lizard look a helluva better than Mathew. The hair’s looking a little scraggly though. He may be due for a trim.

    • mjude

me too. I don’t care I think he is a doll.

    • marlie

I did think for a second that I’m glad Jared got to this jacket before Matthew. MM would have (probably) made it look sleazy.

  • stu844

Purple socks and sparkly shoes on a straight guy? Nothing makes me swoon faster than a secure man.

    • Denise Alden

      True dat.

    • On a straight white guy no less – makes it even more of an achievement.

  • bertkeeter

    LUV his face!

  • RussellH88

After finally seeing Dallas Buyers Club, he can wear whatever he wants. He was fantastic in it.

But I am glad to see him try to up his style as opposed to the “I’m an artist, I don’t conform” mindset that I would have initially expected.

  • StillGary

It kind of reminds me of something from Desperately Seeking Susan — in a good way

  • Eric Stott

He manages to pull off the glam-hippie look…….I still don’t like it, but at least he’s doing it fully.

  • ballerinawithagun

I’m so happy that he is a man now, I’m not quite as disgusted with myself now as when I used to lust after him on My So Called Life.
I’ve always been a sucker for rockers, this is the way they dress up.

  • Tracy_Flick

One part Gram Parsons, one part Little Richard, one part Jesus. With just a pinch of Michael Jackson. I don’t usually respond to his style either, but I can’t argue with that mix.

  • Danielle

    That hair flip though.

  • I’m starting to get Sarah Jessica Parker on the hair, so he should maybe re-think that.

    • 3boysful

I am seeing my 8 yr old niece who won’t allow hers to be brushed.

  • Kent Roby

I’d love to see a tight ponytail here, but, yes, he has managed to up his style game without sacrificing “himself” in the process. Kudos to him.

  • bellafigura1

I can’t, the fit when it’s buttoned is just too terrible. Doesn’t his tailor tell him to move around, swing your arms, reach, button, un-button? I’m always perplexed that these people don’t do a complete run-through in front of the mirror.

  • AvaLehra

I dig his style. Does it work for everyone? Nope, but it suits him and he wears it with confidence.

  • Laylalola

He’s so handsome and has had so many looks through the years, and by far the stage he’s going through now is the worst from head to toe.

  • he’s on his way to a party at liberace’s house.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I look at him and feel 13 again…because that’s what the heartthrobs looked like when I was that age! It all comes round, doesn’t it? That said, he rocks that look and he has seriously beautiful eyes.

  • Madam Von Sassypants

Despite thinking Modern Leto is a creepy d-bag, I have to say, I fully applaud this ensemble, scraggle hair and all.

  • StillGary

ooooh, let’s see if Brad Pitt gets a little insecure and shows up in something shiny (bwahaha)!

  • NYCGlamourpuss

He’s so shiny and sparkly and chic and probably smells like sandalwood. It’s love, Kittens!

  • Joanna

It’s the same coat Bruno Mars wore at the Super Bowl. Also, I just like how he’s always leaning. Against stuff. He leans great.

  • GoryDetails

Is it weird that, when I scrolled down to where I could only see the outfit from the shoulders down, I thought “What a great look for Ellen DeGeneres”? Something about the body shape and attitude said “sassy talk-show host” to me…

  • dash1211

I just hate his hair. I mean, really….

    • MaggieMae

I hate it too. It looks so dated. Late 70s, early 80s, generic rock-n-roll band stringy long hair parted down the middle. MEH.

  • shopgirl716

I would be so happy if he cut his hair. I have nothing against long hair but I have a lot against stringy, messy hair. Get thee to the salon Jared Leto!

  • CeeRich

    I love it!

  • Imasewsure

I didn’t realize he was 42!! I’ll shut up now… Bitch can wear whatever the hell he wants (including the ombre Aniston hair). He looks amazing!!

  • Milos Mom

Is it just me or is anyone else getting a Michael Jackson vibe from the waist down? He is a bit scrawny. Don’t care for this look.

  • Sam Smith

I do wish the jacket was one size up, but I love the look. And, I want to know how he does not age, has he made a deal with the Devil b/c he doesn’t look like he has had work done, but man he does not age.

  • icm

Ugh! greasy hair and bedroom slippers, cmon.

  • quiltrx

I’d love a peek at that portrait of him rotting in an attic. It must be hideous by now. 😉
Yes, please up a size on the jacket, honey. But you are one fabulous bitch in this look.

  • hmb

Another great free ball by the model…
as far as Leto goes, I love the shoulder and sleeve fit of his jacket, the torso is too snug. I wonder if he is broader than his overall stature lets on…the pocket square is fantastic. The kicks look a bit house loafer-ish, but they are nice and spangly! And, with a face like that, I might never wash or style my hair either.

  • Alloy Jane

Am I the only one who thinks of Ken from Toy Story when I see this outfit? And yes, I love the socks. The sparkle shoes, not so much, but I can digit.

  • Diego!

He looks Ok. I guess? I’m gonna be mean, but in this outfif and shoes, he looks like the male version of Mariah Carey. That hair must go. NOW!

  • Patrick Cleary

The jacket is too tight, and I wish he’d stop highlighting the tips of his hair, because it looks weird (or is it just growing out?). But he looks like a total couture rockstar, and I love seeing a man take some chances on the red carpet.

  • MartyBellerMask

I love the jacket unbuttoned. I’m not sure I’m feeling the blue socks though.

  • maggiemaybe

Damn, that jacket is fab and he looks amazing. The Jesus hair kinda bugs, though. I’m just too besotted with that rockabilly do on the model…

  • VioletF.

    Male WERQ!

  • Matthew Vella

    Can’t believe he’s 42!

  • tintashoopa

Crazy for the style! Even the shoes and socks are fantastic.

  • His look is very much not my thing, but he’s got some envy inducing skin.
