IN or OUT: Naomie Harris in Monique Lhuillier at the LoveGold Event

Posted on February 27, 2014

Ladies, what’s the deal here? Should she have sewn the pockets up? We’re asking.

And isn’t the crotch a little … high? If those pants were just a skosh tighter we’d be in danger of cameltoe, no? It’s a shame, because our first thought was that this was an interesting take on a jumpsuit, but the fit on those pants is very dicey, to the point of being distracting. And we don’t like those side cutouts with the lace. Better if the whole thing was black with a lace yoke.

Agree/Disagree? Please show your work.

Bitter Kittens make the call:

IN! It’s ladypants done RIGHT.

OUT! As the little chickies say, “Cheap! Cheap!”

The kittens shed their bitterness and rallied to the defense of Mindy Kaling’s pageant gown, even though many admitted it had more than a few problems. In the end, y’all voted the look IN.

  • lexilexi

    Just plain OUT.

  • @Biting Panda

Had you told me this was a Stella McCartney, I would have believed you. So, OUT.

  • filmcricket

I can’t believe I’m going to say this about lace side-cutouts, but: I don’t mind them. I mean, I’d rather they weren’t there, but if she wants to show off how great her ab workout is, I prefer this to the plunging neckline.

The pockets are definitely not helping the shape of this, but it’s SO HARD to turn down any kind of formal-wear that has pockets. I’m not sure men totally understand how rare and wonderful a thing that is.

Edit: whoops, right, this is an IN/OUT. For all I just said above, it’s a jumpsuit, so: Out.

  • teensmom99

OUT & exactly one of the
key pitfalls of jumpsuits–so hard to get both halves to fit well.

  • Adriana_Paula

That wretched thing needs to be burned, period.

  • Call me Bee

Ugh. Out. (Great color, though. Still Out.)

  • gabbilevy

Out, which is too bad, because there was potential in the ideas, if not the execution.

  • Grumpy Girl

But I am confused: in the closeups her fingernails are painted a white color. in the more distant shots, they look dark. (I wanted to say one nice thing about liking the ring on one hand, but the nails were confusing me.)

    • Glam Dixie

In the close up shots the pants and shirt are different too, so good call. You can see pockets with snaps like jeans.

    • leahpapa

Good eye! I think, though I can’t confirm, that the thumbs are a different color than the fingers? And, if so, is this a thing now?

ETA: On closer inspection and as others have noted below, I think the close-ups are from a totally different appearance/outfit.

      • KateShouldBeWorking

Sophie caught it. They aren’t her hands, the jewelry is the give-away.

        • leahpapa

Ah! I thought maybe it was pics from another Naomie appearance, but I think you’re right – I’ve never noticed that tattoo on her wrist in other appearances, leading me to believe that the close-ups are of someone else entirely.

      • marlie

Good call! I’m ashamed that I didn’t notice it the first time around.

    • Mary Carpenter

Noticed the hands didn’t match right away. Now it’s going to bug me. Whose hands are those!

    • another_laura

wow, good call. in the full shots she is not wearing a bracelet and the rings are wrong. T Lo got pranked on the closeups of the hands.

  • Allie Carter

Uh- is it just me or are the closeup shots with jewlery of someone wearing entirely different, grey clothing?

    • Allie Carter

Also she’s not wearing hand jewelry in the full photos.

    • leahpapa

You are so right! There are clearly jean-type pants and a lacey top in the closeups, and the color is different. I think the close-ups are from a different appearance.

      • alyce1213

        Different nail color too.

    • Danielle

*furiously scrolls back up, gasps out loud* THE TRICKERY! Why? That’s crazy.

  • Glam Dixie

Out, those pants are awful, full stop.

  • NMMagpie

Out. The pockets give her hip parentheses.

  • Noah

Sorry, I’m too busy trying to figure out what the fuck’s going on with those shoes down there.

  • MoHub

On-seam pants pockets are the tools of the Devil.

  • SophieCollier

OUT, but what’s with the random hand photos in the middle? Those aren’t her hands.

  • KateShouldBeWorking

Out. Emma Peel and Beatrix Kiddo are the only ladies who have successfully worked a fashion jumpsuit.

  • StarburstLady

The fit of the pants is scaring me, and the top looks like censor bars. OUT.

    • kimmeister

I saw the censor bar too, but was mildly grateful it was covering her sternum.

  • Mrs. Julien

This does not do her justice.

  • Sarah

I want to like it. I sort of do. I’m gonna say if the pockets were not there, it would be okay. But as is, I guess, it is a no, sadly.

  • MilaXX

Out! The look screams borrowed designer frock . I like the top half, but the bottom is just too I’ll fitted.

  • Taylor Bigler

Uncles: The closeup shots are not of Naomie Harris. Also, this is OUT.

  • conniemd

I think she looks good, though I admit there are flaws. I love the lace yoke. In – barely.

  • Anna

Out. There’s better ways to show off how fit you are, Naomie. These pants are most certainly not it.

  • Scimommy

Out. Sorry, Naomi, but this is just awkward.

  • Imasewsure

Aside from some fit issues, this is a perfect little ensemble for lunching at Chateau Marmont!! IN but not with love

  • ThaliaMenninger

OUT! There is nothing right with this and nothing that could fix it.

  • Nancer

A tepid “In”. I want to encourage pants on ladystars, because I think too often they get stuck in uncomfortable dresses. And this really looks comfortable. Personally, I love pockets. So sure, these are a bit floppy, and the cut is high, and I agree about the lace cutouts, and yet…. I still think she looks good. Plus pants.

    • Sobaika

Finally! Everyone thinks is an ‘Out’ but I don’t hate it at all. The pocket area is dicey but that’s it. She looks pretty fab.

      • Nancer

Maybe that’s her super power – she can take a dicey looking outfit and look great in it! 🙂

    • MilaXX

I like it in principal (and on the model) but the execution is lacking. That’s why I gave it an OUT vote.

  • poggi

Naomie, it’s not you; it’s the pantsuit. Out.

  • Liana Brooks

OUT, I’m afraid. She’s trying, the poor dear. She looks better than the model. But she can’t redeem this hideous outfit.

  • boweryboy

It’s a jumpsuit. With lace details. And cutouts. Rendered in what looks like velvet but up close details give the appearance of demin fabric-wise and jeans cut-wise. Plus the ballooning around the hips looks like she’s either retaining a shit ton of water or is smuggling in a small animal.

    Hair and make-up look nice.

    • marlie

Look again – the up close photos aren’t the same outfit.

  • ShaoLinKitten

So very OUT. This is just sad looking.

  • BayTampaBay

  • kt

It’s cute, she is very athletic, so the pockets add a little movement.. not bad. And I enjoy that you switched out a different outfit for the accessories shots, because I enjoy the white manicure with gold jewels

  • Emily Giovanni

Wait a minute…. those hands do not belong.

    • mary mary quite contrary

Yeah in the close-up the hands have white nail polish, but black polish when it’s zoomed out.

  • OUT – look at how she’s clenching her jaw. She’s in danger of being sliced up the middle.

  • Clash D

  • marlie

Two days ago, we begged Naomie to try something other than sternum-baring, and THIS is what we get? She’s pretty much telling us all off.

None of this works. I don’t like the way the lace frames her shoulders (her shoulders may be a little too broad for this?), and the cutouts+high waist really throws offer her body’s proportions. I don’t like her hair, either, BUT I *LOVE* her eye makeup.

    Oh – OUT.

    • Jessica Freeman

And yet it almost perfectly covers up the sternum, like she personally answered us. But the answer was another big EFF YOU.

  • another_laura

Out. The combination of that bodice and the armholes makes her shoulders look too coat-hangery and her bust disappear, and somehow it’s making her look short. I know she probably is very petite, but you don’t want to look short, you get my distinction there? And I haven’t even scrolled down to the pockets.

  • Tracy_Flick

The fact that my eyeballs weren’t seared by this fug jumpsuit is proof that she elevates anything she wears. But that still doesn’t mean she should wear things like this. That bandeau NEEDS to be an inch higher. But even that wouldn’t save the scary pants.

  • nowlo

Out. The whole pelvic region is strangely designed. No one wants to look like they have a long crotch.

  • jen_vasm

C’mon Kittens – once, loudly with feeling, “That crotch is INSANE!”
I’m happy Naomie & Co veered away from the plunging neckline, but this is kind of a weird jumpsuit. Plus, the shoes are random.

  • LJCdoc

    Out. Get a tailor, woman.

  • Kristobel

OUT. That is just…unflattering. Also, not sure whose hands those are, but they’re not hers. Frankenhands!

  • rissa42210

Out. The pockets are bad, but the place that the strip sits at the top is also not good. I just want to hike it up. Also – those hand pictures don’t appear to be her – different outfit and nail color?

  • susu

IN. Not perfect, but still a striking look. On a side note, I need to track down her makeup artist.

    • MilaXX

I think I read once it was a friend or business partner of Thandie Newton. I forget her name though. May need to track that down to be sure if I’m remembering correctly.

  • Jessica Freeman

OUT. This should have been much more elegant. No need for pockets. Just making a black band to cover the boobage was lame.

  • ashtangajunkie

In. I don’t hate this at all – Ms. Harris is working a difficult look pretty well.

  • quiltrx

OUT…the pockets make it so LUMPY. And crazy crotch, for sure. The whole thing’s just unflattering.

  • Megan Kennedy

OUT. Even if there is anything good about this outfit, I can’t focus on it, due to the long, wide crotch. No one wants a crotch that is long, or wide, let alone both.

  • lamamu

OUT! It’s not the lace that bothers me; it’s the pockets and imminent camel toe. All it would take is one deep sigh… Sigh.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

She’s so stunningly beautiful she almost makes it work. Almost. Out.

  • mjude

  • lunchcoma

OUT. Out out out out out. That top looks like a child tacked together some cheap lace and some fabric scraps for an art project.

  • samo_samo

Out – the fit is giving me fits.

  • Jaeda Laurez

OUT- it doesn’t fit and i don’t like the cutouts to begin with. I don’t mind the rise, because an (unintentionally) low crotch looks rather sloppy, like they didn’t bother to get your inseam right and just threw it on you.

  • I’m thinking it’s midnight blue and not black. And part way between an in and an out. Stuck in the doorframe. I think it’s because I like her, and I like the blue and I like shoes, and hair and makeup, and the fact that it’s a bit different even if it doesn’t totally work. So IN, actually.

  • Out. That’s just irredeemable.

  • Michelle

Totally IN – she looks gorgeous and it’s an amazing outfit

  • She has a booty, and the too-straight cut of the garment is to blame for the pocket flare and near-cameltoe. OUT, a near miss.

  • Amy D

OUT.. she has no waist in this.. it’s weird

  • Meri

Out. Out. Out. She’s still gorgeous, though.

  • ScarlettHarlot

OUT! She has an amazing figure, and the proportions on this are confusing and obscure that she has any figure at all.

  • kimmeister

She shape of the cutouts, plus the hand in her pockets, contribute to creating the effect of a giant arrow pointing to her boob censor bar. OUT.

  • Gatto Nero

Out, though I’m heavily biased against jumpsuits.
The lace inserts are dodgy, and by all means stitch those pockets closed, at least.

  • DoctorBelle

Out! Bad, bad situation with hips and waist.

  • melanie0866

OUT. Jumpsuits are always OUT, never mind baggy pockets, lace cutouts, high waists, or cameltoe.

    • prisma

AMEN. And it is impossible to comfortably sit down in a jumpsuit unless the crotch is at your knees.

  • Lori

Out. That thing is ugly. So ugly that even Naomie Harris’s beauty can’t save it. Fixing all its problems would involve it becoming a completely different outfit.

  • TheLaurenJean

If the lace cutouts were a tad bit larger, I think it would have been ok. Or just make the whole thing black, but the top like you said. But as far as sewing up pockets? It may have looked better, but pockets are the best. Can’t blame her for wanting to be able to use them.

  • Stella Zawistowski

Ooh, no. Nothing about the shape of this is working. OUT.

  • CommentsByKatie

I like the idea of this, but definitely the execution is drawing the eye straight to the crotch, which is unfortunate.

  • barbarienne

OUT. For all the reasons you give. Those are just plain unattractive on her.

  • Alyssa

Out. I like the color on her, I like the lacy top, I don’t like the lace cutouts, I don’t like jumpsuits. But, what I can see of the shoes makes me love them!

  • Janet B

I really like the outfit, but it’s not fitting her at all. Yes, those pockets should have been removed.

  • ChelseaNH

Out. The geometric parts are not harmoniously balanced.

  • Kent Roby

This look has so much of what I hate, but she’s so gorgeous that she still (to me) looks great, so I have to vote “In”.

  • frannyprof

OUT. A rare miss, but looks like if she were to straighten up, the whole thing would be thrown out of proportion, and camel toe would ensue.

  • PeggyOC

Out. Sew the pockets or don’t. This is just head to toe fug.

  • Cathy S

The top half isn’t bad but the bottom half is atrocious. And since we can’t separate them, I’ll have to go with OUT.

  • crash1212

OUT. Only way to make this work is to not have worn it at all.

  • SugarSnap108

Out by a mile. In the first shot, it’s another case of butt-front, which is more than enough for an OUT for me — even without the pockets and lace cut-outs.

  • Sara__B

    The beautiful lady is OUT.

  • surfergirl70

I don’t even understand what I’m looking at with this. OUT.

  • decormaven

Sadly, out. She’s gorgeous, but this outfit is doing her no favors.

  • Mousentrude

GTNYJ. I like it on the model, but the neckline is too high and makes her look scrunched up. Out, I’m sorry to say.

  • KinoEye

OUT. Anything that makes the lovely Naomie look blocky and cheap is a definite out.

  • stubbornthoughts

I have no idea where her hips are, and that worries me. From the chest up, she’s gorgeous. But, alas, OUT.

  • Trickytrisha

    OUT. Pocket-ears are never in.

  • Bernadette

    Out! Totes awks…

  • Nicole Little

Like the blue, like the lace, like the idea, hate the (full!) diaper pants.

    • Nicole Little

      (er, that means out)

  • Rhonda Shore

out. too many problems. and side pockets should always be sewn up.

  • bertkeeter

Always think I’ll see something really glam when I hear the name Monique Lhullier…. it just hasn’t happened in a while!

  • Carolyne

OUT. Mainly because the pocket droop makes it look like she’s wearing a barista apron. Her skin tone looks pretty great against that black though….

  • Charlotte Sanders

That face! That skin!! Forget the clothes, she is so lovely…

  • Maya

  • snarkmeister

Out. Even the model can’t make it look good.

  • Kit S.

It looks like her ass is on backwards.

  • Akemi

The only way those pockets work is if she walked around with her hands in her pockets all night, like women wearing dresses with pockets insist on doing.

  • suzq

If you’re going to wear something as impractical as a jumpsuit, the fit better be impeccable and the look better be stunning. This is neither. This is trying to be “cute girl rockstar” but it comes off looking like a mistake your boyfriend made when ordering you a pajamagram for Valentine’s Day.

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

That is a world of OUT for me.

  • procrastinatrice

The pockets are making it look like she is wearing her ass out in front. Not a good look. So, so OUT.

  • formerlyAnon

MY GOD. You have to ask???? She is a perfect shape (or darn near) and the poochy pockets make the sleek lines of her jumpsuit rumple outwards in the world’s tiniest set of saddle bags. It is OUT OUT OUT.

Without those pockets, I’d have voted a jumpsuit with a partial bodice of sheer lace “in.” That’s a decent attempt at a garment succeeding in the face of its true nature ruined by its pocketses.

The crotch may be a smidge high, not enough to ruin anything, though.

  • MzzPants

Awkward lines, questionable taste. Big ol’ OUT.

  • littlemac8

OUT! The black bandeau looks like one of those black bars used to cover someone’s nudity!

  • jen

I’m gonna give her an IN just because she is so freaking gorgeous!

  • CatherineRhodes

  • SierraDelta

She has a halo in the last photo, once again proving that stars have access to way more fabulous accessories than non-stars do.

  • Danielle West

I really like this, so despite the fit issues, I say IN.

  • Jacob Bowen

Her hair/makeup looks GREAT and if she had fixed the pocket issue I would have LOVED it, but it is still an IN for me.

  • Jangle57

Yeah, um no, just no – OUT

  • OUT. Not a fan.

  • Courtney

Out. The lace cutouts on the side give the whole thing a really unfortunate high-waisted appearance.

  • jw_ny

well…I’m no lady, but I’ll weigh in anyways…OUT. Nice to not see her boobs & sternum for a change though.

  • Sara Hottman

Poor Naomie. She should’ve kept the pockets stitched, but she looks lovely. In.

  • Reality TV Casting

  • unbornfawn

OUT. The whole thing is awkward. Hate the strip across her breasts, the pants are completely unflattering.

  • I don’t think there’s anything that could save this, it’s as awkward as the day is long. OUT.

  • ktschk

BURN it. Just, not too close to me. I don’t want to choke on the fumes.

  • Badriya Al-Badi’a

Out, the fit on the pants makes the whole thing look like overalls.

  • MarissaLG

The thing with the pockets is unfortunate and sloppy, but I think this could slide by with an in. Maybe? She could have used a bracelet or two also. And her boobs look smushed. I changed my mind! OUT.

  • I’m sorry, nothing works here.

Ok, the make-up is beautiful. Still, OUT.

  • Out…but she could totally pull off a better version of this! Too bad. 🙁

  • anyalama

I honestly have no idea how this is even a question. That is just ridiculous and an obvious OUT.

  • littlestars

Tough call. I like the lace (including the cut-outs), but that area from the crotch to just below the bust is unfortunate. I don’t even know if solving the pocket issue would help – the proportions through there are just strange and unflattering. She looks really pretty overall, and I love the idea of this garment, but it’s an OUT for me.

  • lalahartma

  • demidaemon

OUT. This is just wrong. Wrong fit, wrong fabric, wrong design.
