GTNYD: Selena Gomez in Antonio Berardi at the Variety’s unite4:humanity Gala

Posted on February 28, 2014

She really has no idea about fit and proportion, does she? She just puts on anything and assumes it’ll fit itself to her body, like Marty McFly’s future-sneakers.

Girl, That is NOT Your Dress Jumpsuit. That is a jumpsuit for a lady at least a foot taller than you. Are you blind or something? Does your stylist have a drinking problem? Why are you wearing something that is clearly far too big on you, Selena? And why is your crotch so darn wrinkly?

This is a disaster. Pack this thing up and ship it off to Iman or someone tall like that, girl. Let’s get you measured and teach you about fit.

When in doubt, I turn my spiritual leader’s teachings and say, “Honey, what’s this, what’s happening, what’s going on here?”

    • Danielle

      Because I’m a lady, assface.

    • Spreecord

I suspect Selena regrets the day she laid boobs on that jumpsuit.

    • Pablo

Honey, we talked about this jumpsuit before

  • Anna

(To borrow from the late Amy Winehouse) What kind of fuckery is this???

    • Ginger

I use that phrase ALL THE TIME! It’s one of my favorites (as was she).

      • Anna

        Me too!

  • marlie

This looks ridiculous on her. It’s like she’s playing dress-up. It’s really baffling that anyone let her leave the house in that.

  • I love the garment itself, but it’s all kinds of wrong on her.

    • Sartorial_She

Agreed! That may be the one jumpsuit in the history of jumpsuits that I would consider wearing. (You know, if I grew 4 inches and lost 10 pounds.) It’s gorgeous.

On the bright side, I do think her dark coloring compliments the garment nicely. In (only) that regard, it looks better on her than the model.

  • MilaXX

Another jumpsuit fail. Like Naomie’s earlier this week the bottom half is not fitted correctly completely ruining the look.

  • ♠♥zee♣♦

Her hair and make up is also unacceptable. Far too boring and messy.

  • AC Simons

She’s very pretty and tiny. She needs alters, as in alterations, STAT!

  • jw_ny

Beside the outfit being too big on her, that makeup is way too heavy/evening for such a light/daytime outfit. And, that hair…wtf is hiding up under there?

I blame designers for selecting fabrics that wrinkle too easily, however the stylists and stars should also know better, especially when RC photography is involved.

This is just an all around mess.

    • kimmeister

The wrinkliness around the crotch is exacerbated by the light color of the fabric! *shudders*

  • Karen Belgrad

Priscilla Pressley wants her hair back

    • marlie

It’s also rather obvious from the last picture that the extensions are several shades lighter than her actual hair.

      • kmk05

Maybe it’s supposed to be the ‘ombré’ effect for brunettes. Badly done, though.

        • marlie

UGH. I hate that. It will never NOT look like someone is just too lazy to get their roots touched up, or that they’re growing it out.

          • FrigidDiva

I was reading about different hair trends for 2014 (trying to decide what I want to do with mine) and apparently the effect that’s going to big this year is the SOMBRE effect which is supposed to be a more subtle ombre effect. So, I guess I just shouldn’t dye my hair for a few more months and I’ll have that wonderful new look. *rolls eyes*

          • bitchybitchybitchy

Shall we at BK central decide to pronounce SOMBRE with an accent on the final “e” so that it will sound like SOM-BRAY?

          • Kate4queen

            I think we should. 🙂

          • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m going to swan about my house intoning “The look this season for hair will be SOM-BRAY”

    • Rhonda Shore

And that is NOT the right shade of red lipstick for her…

  • I love the idea of this, but it all goes wrong at the groin and never recovers. She needs to talk to Adrian Brody (maybe over the phone, safer not in person) about how to avoid crotch wrinkles.

    • SketchyCat

Today, my goal is to insert the phrase “it goes all wrong at the groin” into as many conversations as possible. Thanks, Alicia! :0)

      • It’s remarkable how many situations it applies to 😉

    • Jacob Bowen

WHY did they need to continue that appliqué onto the crotch area??? It’s like she has ladybugs and fuzzy caterpillars crawling on her crotch.

  • jilly_d

My scroll-down thought process: Nice head……ok, fit not great in the bodice, but it’s not THAT BAD……..ooohhhh wrinkly crotch, that’s a sh-HOLY HELL BATMAN THE HEM

    • marlie

Pretty much exactly the same thought process I had. Ok… Ok… O – WTF??

    • MaggieMae

Lol, count me in. Same thoughts.

    • H2olovngrl

What I want to know, is if she has a handler specifically to catch her when she trips and falls. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when!

  • Ginger

It’s a shame because, as far as jumpsuits go, this one is pretty damn fabulous. I can imagine any number of taller ladystars rocking the shit out of this.

  • DinaSews

This is a pretty rare misstep for her. She has always impressed me.

  • megohd

This is as if she borrowed her mom’s outfit in an emergency.

  • bhl_1123

I don’t understand how you walk in something like this.

    • Qitkat

You know, they might as well have hemmed it, because a couple of hours dragging the floor will ruin this anyway. She won’t be doing much walking for sure. The classic recipe for disaster.

      • bhl_1123

Exactly! Go ahead and hem it, or at least pin it up.

  • Nancer

Such a pretty girl, where are her stylists? She needs to stop borrowing clothing that she can’t alter! I think she is probably tiny, which is going to give her problems with most designer duds.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

She’s lovely, and as a petite woman, she needs her stylist to take that into account when putting together looks.

      • Nancer

Agreed! So many designer clothes are not styled for tiny women. And if this came off the runway, that explains the puddles around her feet.

    • She needs to talk to Kylie Minogue’s people. They seem to manage to get stuff cut down for a petite woman.

  • Jaeda Laurez

This is ridiculous- did NOBODY on her team see her try this on before she walked out the door. It’s STUPID long- even in sky-high heels, she looks nuts.

  • Capt. Renault

    Maybe she doesn’t own a Swiffer…

  • schadenfreudelicious

Did her stylist yank this directly off the runway model?..that is the only explaination for the extra foot of fabric….

  • CLoverleaf

As a petite woman, I am offended by this outfit. For shame, Selena.

  • decormaven

Blinded by the sparkles and chose an ill-fitting garment. That’s style rule no. 1 no-no. If it does not fit, don’t bother. All the fab in the world can’t make up for a poor fit.

  • boweryboy

    I … just … wow.

She still looks like a kid playing dress-up in her mother’s closet.

  • Qitkat

This nonsense sets the case for jumpsuits back severely. Not that they were a favorite of BKs anyway.
I do hope TLo’s next book covers fashion disasters and the scorn from the public. We are NOT BLIND as you celebrities/stylists must think.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Sometimes I feel as if I’m a character in The Emperor’s New Clothes, when I see some of the execresences that fashion editors and designers try to foist upon the public. NO, granny panties are ugly. Sheer over solid mini is silly. They are NOT beautiful simply because Anna Wintour etal waved their designer shades in the air and declared them chic.

      • demidaemon

I often think they are just testing how stupid/insipid/gullible their readership is. Luckily, we here have a bit more sense. I hope.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

We have had our uncles T and Lo to properly school us, as well as encourage their BK’s to consider, evaluate and trust their own judgment.

          • demidaemon

Indeed. Thank god for that. They have saved so many from the evils of fashion editor chosen trends and mass advertising hypnosis.

  • lobsterlen

The jumpsuit is beautiful which makes this red carpet appearance tragic.
Question … if this jumpsuit was altered for Selena could it work? Can someone ever this petite pull off a jumpsuit?

    • Qitkat

I definitely think she could have pulled this off with a proper fitting and alterations. She is pretty cute down to the waist.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

I think someone petite can pull of a jumpsuit, but I don’t think this particular jumpsuit could ever have been altered to work on someone petite. It is too long-waisted and the beading goes down too far on her torso and thighs. You would have had to dismantle it completely, raise the waist, fix the rise, and rethink the placement of the beading. Probably should have just picked a different jumpsuit.

    • alyce1213

      Nicole Richie.

  • Alyssa

The top part of this jumpsuit is quite beautiful. But yeah, no way in heck she should be wearing it. The bodice is too long, the pants are too long, the extensions are too long, the side picture makes me think it’s doing no favors for her buttocks…big giant no for her.

  • ashtangajunkie

I actually love the jumpsuit, but it’s hard to imagine a worse fit.

  • Violentcello

It’s really too bad, because that would be awesome if if fit her.

  • barbarienne

The saddest thing is that if this were properly fitted, it would have looked amazing on her.

  • kmk05

SCROLLDOWN FUG. The bust fit is actually okay, but that beading looks like underwater shell growth and the crotch and length are ridiculous.

I am also offended by the hair, which is ridiculously horrible.

  • formerlyAnon

I think that’s actually a cute outfit. But, waaaay too long – and I tolerate too-long pants legs better than the average BK.

  • Jessica Freeman

This is a jump suit for a tall person. At least take time to use some hem tape on the pants legs. I would imagine she pretty much ruined the bottom hem of the pants dragging them on the ground.

  • bertkeeter

For GOD’S SAKE…. with all the money these “Talents” make …BUY what u wear on the RC and get it fitted so you don’t look like you raided a strangers closet! TACKY!

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

  • frannyprof

  • Ann VerWiebe

I’m surprised she didn’t trip on the pants hems and yank the whole thing off. TMZ magic!

  • She is the tippy-top of my irrational love list. I thought this would be fixable if I were hiding behind the backdrop with a roll of duct tape until I saw the back. She needs the equivalent of Driving School for fashion. You’ve been given a citation for poor fit and proportion with failure to tailor, Selena.

  • KinoEye

I’m always of the opinion that jumpsuits look best on taller ladies. My 5’10 friend can rock them like no one’s business. I look stumpy. And wrinkly crotch. Yikes.

  • jen

Dang, total scrolldown fug!! Are there no tailors in Hollywood???

  • muelonil

I can’t get past the pant hem to even see the rest of it. She is going to trip and get hurt.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

The pant hem, or lack thereof for her height, hurts my eyes. Sweetie, your stylist needs to be slapped for allowing you to go out in public in this. Let’s talk.

  • Madam Von Sassypants

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I think this jumpsuit is one of the ugliest I have ever seen. I don’t even like it on the model.

  • French_Swede

The jumpsuit is amazing. It’s just on the wrong woman.

  • Dagney

second time in 5 minutes. Hem Line!!!!!! gah!!! and a tailor! get a tailor! good lord! This could have looked stunning!

  • Jacqueline Wessel

I wonder if, in her head, she thinks she’s much bigger than she actually is. Not only is the outfit too bug for her, but her hair is too.

  • Jecca2244

sometimes us smaller ladies just put it on and pray it fits (it generally doesn’t).

  • sagecreek

Are there no seamstresses in LA? No one who can do hemming?

  • livesarah

If it was actually her size she would look quite lovely.

  • tinyredlocks

    HAHAHAHA!!! That hem is hilarious!

  • Even that heroic amount of makeup won’t keep people from looking down and seeing that NOTHING FITS. Good lord.

  • Alloy Jane

Her crotch must’ve spit out the fabric of those oversized pants just in time for pictures and THAT is why you have such terrible wrinkles. Yet more offensive than those crotch wrinkles is that hair. That is terrible hair.

    • quiltrx

That’s what I get for not reading any comments before I post…great minds LOL!

  • quiltrx

Maybe she had all the extra length tucked up in her cooch, but it let go…explaining both the wrinkles and the leg sacks.

  • AceOn6

Such a beautiful garment. Stylist should have known better. I’m sure the Berardi folks will be more cautious in the future.

  • Sunraya

I do like her in edgier clothes. If I were her imaginary stylist, I would put her in menswear type clothes, as she is so pretty and feminine, I think the juxtaposition would work with her. But this is a debacle. I agree. Her stylist is blind AND drunk!! 🙂

  • Clash D

…that said, that is NOT her hair, either.

  • demidaemon

Indeed. Extremely drunk. Or delusional about the Oscars dress code.
