Evan Peters and Emma Roberts in Paris

Posted on February 27, 2014

Aw, look at these two hipster nerds. Aren’t they just as cute as a basket of pink kittens.

What do we think, darlings? Are they bona fide hipster nerds or is this an affectation? After all, up until very recently she had predilection for metallic disco dresses and big hair. We’ll say this: her outfit’s actually kind of cute and you can tell it was thought out. He’s just in standard sloppy boyfriend drag, like a million other guys getting on a plane with their girlfriends.

Would anyone happen to know who made that coat? IN LOVE. And he’s adorable as usual.

      • sagecreek

Really? I’m glad someone thinks he is adorable. I want to run him over with my car. I speak metaphorically, of course.

        • alyce1213

          ;)

        • H2olovngrl

Is that…is that a HEADBAND he is sporting??? that kinda smells like douchebag to me.

    • hughman

They are the cutest lesbian couple I’ve seen all day.

      • random_poster

That made me laugh out loud.

      • RedRaven617

        I just laughed so hard I pee’d a little.

    • @Biting Panda

They stepped out of the shower and found these outfits, complete with accessories, folded neatly, waiting on their bed. The stylist enjoys working for a couple.

      • Ceur

I think only one of them showered. Maximum.

        • Lucía Gavello

And it was a quick shower, no shampoo.

    • Kent Roby

She looks fine and effortless to me, but he looks like he is trying way too hard, with the messy hair, the plaid shirt, the Mickey shirt with the hole in it, the nerd glasses, the dinosaur necklace, etc. He probably spent an hour getting his hair to look that bad.

      • Alyssa

The necklace seems to disappear when he puts his glasses on his shirt. If the necklace was shorter, this would make more sense to me, but it seems long enough to not have to take the time to put under your shirt when not wearing glasses, and then take back out when you put your glasses on. He is oozing try hard to me.

        • barbarienne

I’m wondering why he was taking off the glasses. They’re not sunglasses. Are they prescription? If they are, is there a reason he would have them on and off like that? I suspect that’s adding to the try-hard vibe; too much fiddling with the accessories.

          • Grumpy Girl

I will give a benefit of the doubt, and say perhaps he needs them to read the flight listings? I have to put them on to read those signs, but I can’t wear them when walking.

            • barbarienne

Oh, that makes sense, thank you!

        • lunchcoma

Also, if the theme of the day is “I’m getting on a plane, you jerks, I don’t care what I look like as long as it’s comfy” then why is he wearing a necklace in the first place?

    • Alyssa

The torn shirt is bothering me…was it purposefully torn, or is it just his favorite shirt and is torn from being worn so often? Also, is he wearing a headband?

      • random_poster

It looks like an elastic hair band. Torn shirts bother me, too.

      • Ann VerWiebe

I think it’s a barrette. At least dudes with long hair in the ’70s took ownership of not being able to see because of their bangs.

        • demidaemon

I love the 70s style bang. I wish it would come back.

      • YoungSally

        I agree on headband.

Pretty sure he bought the shirt torn. Or the stylist did it.

Mickey Mouse is not hipster when a million other hipsters are wearing a similar “vintage” shirt.

    • KinoEye

He’s cute, but overall this looks very studied. A lot of effort went into something that was supposed to come off as effortless. Kind of like this new thing called “normcore.” Have any other kittens read about this? There are a few articles about it here and there.

      • hughman

I read that article. Ugh. “Normcore”? I would have called it Normal Kamali or something better than Normcore.

        • KinoEye

Right? It sounds like some awful new brand of nu metal. Like Crabcore, which is — I swear on my mother — a real thing.

          • Lucía Gavello

Normcore, Crabcore…. Where do you find these awful things? You have pop-culture superpowers. Or maybe I’m out of touch*

*I am most certainly out of touch.

            • KinoEye

Hahaha, I have… interesting friends. I wish I didn’t know what crabcore is, even more than I wish I didn’t know about normcore. My ears hated me after I tried to watch a music video, and my eyes almost bled.

      • Sarah

IS THAT YER CAT. Also, I don’t know what “normcore” is and I don’t want to find out, but it makes me feel incredibly stabby.

        • KinoEye

Yep, that’s the late, great George. :-) Reading the article made me feel stabby, too. It was all about how upper middle class kids in NY are purposely dressing in “normal” clothes. Blending in is the new way to stand out! UGH.

          • Sarah

Handsome boy. I assumed it was something like that. And I continue to feel feisty about it.

          • random_poster

So, that means the new “normal” designer clothes won’t have the logos embroidered on the front or the pocket? What’s the point of paying $250 for a shirt or $700 for jeans if you don’t wave your wealth around? Might as well shop at Target!

            • Sarah

It’s so inane because it’s not like I think you are OBLIGATED to be fancy if you have money, but sheez can’t you just wear what you like and not have to make it into a frikkin’ movement? (This was my main complaint when I was in H.S. too, so I guess it doesn’t wear off.)

        • AnnaleighBelle

          Heh, this? Now I’m laughy/sad…

          From The Gothamist:

Stop telling your Dad to beat the creases out of his those ancient, starchy Wranglers: Richard’s Rocking Normcore, OK? New York Magazine describes the 1995 food court aesthetic as “going back to a time before adolescence, before we learned to differentiate identity through dress.” In other words, it’s a premeditated search for things to wear that make you look naturally like other people. In other other words, clothes. This is not a new idea, but sit down. Are you ready for Normcore? Let us help you to gain the ability to spot Normcore out of captivity while we help ourselves. A process together is a process forever (#Normcore).

          • demidaemon

I’m glad you saved me the time, as it seems to be inspiring rage among the masses.

        • MilaXX

It’s like people of walmart drag. On purpose.

          • Sarah

Oh, damn. That is some crazy imagery you just gave me. Saints Alive, spare me.

          • Violentcello

I dunno, people of walmart is pretty batshit crazy. Maybe when Lady Gaga starts doing this normcore thingamabob, then we’ll see some people of walmart drag.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I heard of it today. Someone’s overthinking things.

      • MilaXX

UGH! Just saw some “normcore”. I wanted to punch everyone involved.

        • KinoEye

I’m very glad I’m not the only one. In the article I read there was a photo slideshow at the end with people normcoring. It was obvious that the same amount of time and effort went into the “bland” looks as these same people would have put into what they consider “fashionable.” Stupid.

      • ryenerman

I tried to tell myself not to google it because it would just make me hostile. Then I did it anyway. I’ve really got to learn to listen to myself.

        • FrigidDiva

I did the same thing. Now I just want to punch someone.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I was compelled to google it. For that, I hate you all. But not nearly as much as I hate those pretentious assholes.

        • JillSpill

I had to google it too. But I laughed because interspersed with the actual normcore pictures there was a picture of Larry David…is he the ideal?

          • FrigidDiva

Apparently he’s considered the style icon for this movement. My God, where do people come up with this dreck?

      • Paigealicious

So it’s basically real-life “Derelicte” from Zoolander.

        • KinoEye

          Hahaha, yes. Minus the humor.

    • boweryboy

Anything hipster is an affectation regardless of the person.

      • VicD

EXACTLY! For what is a “bona fide hipster nerd” if not a poser? I want to slap young Miss Roberts. Wish she had her father’s dangerous edge rather than her aunt’s insufferable smirk.

    • TheLaurenJean

His shirt has a tear in it. That’s some fake hipster pretense going on there.

    • Sarah

Bona fide or not, there is something kind of ridiculous about a grown man in a MM tee shirt with a T-rex necklace. I mean, that’s like a six year old’s dream outfit.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I have a T-rex on my keys. It makes me happy. And I’m a 52 year old woman. That said, I’m aware that it would be all kinds of ridiculous for me to wear it on a necklace.

Oh, and my now 4-year-old nephew has been seriously jealous of the T-rex since he was 2.

        • Sarah

I actually LIKE the necklace. I just think it is a bridge to far, given the rest of what he has on.

      • marlie

A grown man in a TORN MM t-shirt.

    • AnnaleighBelle

How can “hipster nerd” be anything but an affectation?

      • Sarah

        Truth!

      • Imasewsure

I think there is a least a category of “hipster nerd” and then a separation of those who truly are living la vida nerda and those who just want to appear to be… we’d have to see them at a Beck (insert cooler band here) concert and/or taking apart a Commodore 64 to judge for reals

    • Latin Buddy

I’d say one is rubbing off on the other…but I’ve failed to ever get my ex boyfriend to change the way he dresses so I doubt she is influencing him. Seriously, my boyfriend only wore hoodies or bright colored polos. It was awful.

      • KinoEye

I’ve got one better. My ex loved his plaids and flannels, which would have been fine had they not been torn, tatty and old. Despite buying him new shirts, he clung to the old ones. And the jeans. I got him lovely, dark wash jeans, yet he continued to wear the stonewashed pair with a hole in the crotch. Until it ripped so wide he couldn’t keep wearing them without being arrested for indecent exposure. And the smelly, old shoes. And socks with holes. AHH.

        • demidaemon

My ex tried to tell me that I needed to wear baggier clothes. Why would I ever want to do that?

    • Imasewsure

I don’t really think you can be a true hipster nerd at her price point – also the standard backpack doesn’t cut it but he probably didn’t have time to pick up a free gear bag at Comicon or the Apple Store so I guess it’s as close as possible. He’s reading sloppy boyfriend overall though but that hair is pure (awful) hipster for sure.

    • uprightcitizen

Is he wearing a headband to sort of hold his hair back? Is that a thing now? It makes him look like Patty Duke.

      • Ann VerWiebe

Unfortunately, boys wearing their girlfriends’ hair accessories because of unruly locks does seem to be a thing. And, it’s not good.

    • Jessica Freeman

I just wonder which Be Me or Do Me Bingo these two are going to hit.

      • ashtangajunkie

        Epic Celebrity Breakup?

    • sagecreek

She’s cute. He has his hair clipped with a freaking BARRETTE, so that’s major doucheville to me.

      • Grumpy Girl

I don’t know . . . it kind of passes some half-intelligence test, from when I see guys with longer hair in their eyes and wonder how they see. (I am a very bad abuser of the barrette when at home or behind a closed office door, so I always feel bad for people who clearly need to keep hair out of eyes.) I wonder why more guys don’t do this? (or do they now, and I am woefully out of touch with youngsters?)

The full-intelligence test would be a pass if he had a haircut that allowed his hair not to be in his eyes.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

It’s kind of weird how they have the same exact hair.

    • IraKi

Doesn’t he look like Micheal Cera’s cooler younger brother?

      • Sarah

He would probably love to hear that. I’m pretty sure he’s their King. Or at least a Duke or something. Duke of Hipsterdom.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

That would explain why I find Michael Cera vaguely annoying. I liked him in Arrested Development, but then he became “Michael Cera”.

          • Sarah

Yeah, he’s just a funny awkward kid on AD, but he became a Poster Boy.

          • KinoEye

I’ve never been able to stand that guy outside of AD. He’s such weak sauce. Not that I think that all men should subscribe to that hyper-masculine “ideal,” but he just seems like such a pathetic, weepy pushover in all his roles.Very one-note.

        • KinoEye

I think Beck is probably King. Which I’m loathe to say, since I really do like his music. Matt Berninger of The National is one of many Dukes, including Michael Cera, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and Kevin Barnes (Of Montreal). Duchesses include Lordes, Lana Del Ray, Lena Dunham, Zooey Deschanel and Alice Glass (Crystal Castles). Have I missed any?

          • Sarah

Good list. I thought Beck was Poster Boy for Hip Scientologists. But what do I know? I’m a Hip-PIE so these things are lost on me.

      • Grumpy Girl

        Yes he does!

    • http://thejoyfulfox.blogspot.com/ Laura

Evan dear, whoever you are, please leave the Mickey Mouse shirt to Matt Smith. He did it better. Thank you.

    • Ann VerWiebe

Did his $50 ironic t-shirt come with the hole in it, or did he add it for extra hipsterness?

      • muelonil

He paid extra for the hole.
If I believed ANY of the items they were wearing were actually vintage or more than 1 month old, I might believe them a maybe a tiny bit.

    • SewingSiren

      Affected.

    • Shawn EH

His hair looks nice (well, clean), and AHS: Coven has helped her develop her style. Not so for him, since he was just a monster. I’m sort of pleased he’s not trying to do the muscly abs himbo thing.

    • shirab

I hear they are Engaged. That doesn’t seem very hip.

      • sagecreek

I wouldn’t fret. There’s many a slip twixt the cup and the lip, you know.

    • lunchcoma

Way too many dudes in my dating pool dress like this already. Let’s not encourage them, kittens.

    • schadenfreudelicious

I wonder if they can get a two for one root touch-up?

    • Glam Dixie

I did not know zombie boy was her RL boyfriend. That is a cheap looking rabbit fur coat she is toting around and he looks try-hard.

    • MilaXX

Hipster douches. They bug me for some reason. That said, her boots are cute.

    • clatie

I want to punch that guy in the face.

    • Adrianna Grężak

As a 20-something living in NYC, these are the type of ppl I avoid at a party

    • Leah Elzinga

You are not Kurt Cobain. Stop that.

    • ashtangajunkie

There is so much “NO” going on in my head right now that I can’t focus long enough to formulate a response.

    • suzq

She’s a model. They tend to be quite strategic about their walking around garb. Boys are not. He looks like my son did on his way to catch the school bus this morning. My son’s in 8th grade. This is NOT a compliment.

    • serenab44

Maybe I’m affected too but I want her boots.

    • http://vogueworthyy.wordpress.com/ Anastacia

i literally think the best thing about these photos are emma’s boots and they don’t even look that good with her outfit

    • Akemi

There is a hole in his Mickey Mouse t-shirt. Actually, everything about his outfit makes me want to punch him.
      She looks cute though.

    • kimmeister

I literally can’t figure out what is going on around her ankles. The black and white bit – are those her socks rolled down? Part of the shoe?

      • Grumpy Girl

Thank you! I thought I was alone in my confusion. I had thought they were clogs (with socks showing), and then I saw comments about her boots, scrolled back up. Now my eyes hurt from looking that close at the screen.

    • Stacey Summerville

Is that a barret I see in his hair?

      • Miss wks

        S E R I O U S L Y! Makes ME wanna beat him up…

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

      I want her shoes

    • jilly_d

She looks adorable, but UGH. I can’t understand why any self respecting woman wants to have sex with a man who looks like this. Not that my husband is a Fashion Captain or anything, but at least he doesn’t look like he picked up his clothes off the floor in the dark. And that hair is dee-sgusting. Are he and Norm Reedus using the same stylist?

    • MzzPants

Awwww…look at them being all normal n’ ordinary n’ shit.

    • CatherineRhodes

It’s an affectation. They look like they’re auditioning for a role on “Portlandia.”

    • elirt

She seems like such a high maintenance, B to me. She screams cray cray behind doors. Perhaps I’m just affected by the whole possible “I’m physically abusive to him” report… :P

      • KinoEye

She bit him. Not just once, but several times, according to the police report. She clearly doesn’t play well with others.

    • Lisa_Co

At first I just thought he was some guy who has no idea how to dress. Then I saw the ombré hair. Try hard yuk.

      • kittentoes

I can’t sign off on the barrette. I just can’t. He looks like a grunge shi tzu.

    • Danielle West

They look like a modern-day Sid and Nancy. Take a shower kids.

    • Jacob Bowen

BTANYG—Boy Those Are Not Your Glasses. I enjoy a nerd more than most but those glasses don’t actually make you cuter (like glasses do for A LOT of men).

    • marlie

I want to set her coat on fire. And his holey t-shirt, too.

    • holdstillnow

His colorist needs to have a consult with her colorist.

    • KT

He looks beyond schlubby, she actually looks pretty cute. Though I CANNOT with that backpack, especially when paired with the doc marten-esque shoes. Don’t you dare try to bring that look back. I barely survived the first round (Jansport R.I.P.)

    • icm

are they in costume for an after school special about teen runaways.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Nope. It’s screaming ‘affected’ and that’s the opposite of cool. (Said the old lady. Whatever. I have standards, and this doesn’t meet them.)

    • save_the_hobbit

She could wear anything and I’d still think she was hot, but this is sort of cute. I love those cutout boots. He’s cute too, I guess? I mean he looks like a regular late teen’s-mid 20’s year old guy.

    • bhl_1123

aww…you know what they say–the couple who highlights together, stays together.

    • colorjunky

Is letting your roots (dyed hair) show a trend?

    • merciblahblah

I would like to hold both of them down and forceably shampoo their hair. And also – Evan? 1982 called and wants its Sun In back.

    • Chadge

1st and 2nd place in the Kurt Cobain Drag King Lookalike Contest. Come as you are, hunties!

    • Lilyana_F

      Yeah, affected.

    • macwell

I think that Evan has a really cute body, and bow legs, as evidenced in that last shot of them. Only a bow legged person can stand with legs at such and extreme angle at all angles. <3……;)

    • MannahattaMamma

Looking at them makes me feel old, because I remember when this look Mattered and was SIgnificant. Now? Meh.

    • Jai Piper

When did Emma get her legs amputated? It appears that she’s wearing prosthetic feet – especially in the last shot.
