      why not?

    • Kent Roby

There are some gorgeous pieces here, but the etsy pieces that look like glued-on felt embellishments are wearing me out.

      • barbarienne

Yes, I was like, “Did two different collections get mixed up?” I can kind of imagine a plan of Italian-fantasy-medieval vs Germanic-fairy-tale.

I want those boots with armor-articulated knees. I swear, my mouth watered. Not even kidding.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I was drooling over those boots too.

        • Daenyx

That is a /really/ good way of putting it. (The cultural comparison.) I’m definitely seeing those two things very distinctly.

      • marlie

I like the felt applique pieces. I think they’re fun and crazy!

        • Kent Roby

They’re “fun and crazy”, for the price of a car! Hmmm, maybe I’ll applique some squirrels on some (guys) pants pockets to see if anyone gets the joke (that they’re looking for nuts).

          • marlie

Fun and crazy. No one said practical. ;)

And you just made me snort out loud at work.

        • MissAmynae

I need that blue owl dress in my life. Like now!!

          • snarkmeister

Yeah, I kind of adore that dress even though it doesn’t seem to go with anything else in the collection. Unfortunately I don’t think I would ever in my life be in a situation that would call for a baby blue owl-applique dress, and that is a crying shame.

Also, I love love love the color palette of this collection. The dark teal, purple, red, brown & black are all right in my wheelhouse.

    • gracedarling

That brown key dress! I’m schvitzing over all the medieval hoods – not sure about the woodland creatures, but the hoods!

      • Lucía Gavello

I love the key print! I thought I would be alone on that one.

    • FancyPhilly

Much of it is too juvenile for my old bones… but the blue dress… love it. And why would anyone pay this much for a dress with owls on it when the same can be found at Anthropologie for a fraction of the cost?

      • kimmeister

Or at Old Navy or basically anywhere! I’m actually surprised at how long this owl motif has been going on. I was just at Ross yesterday, hoping I could find something with a parrot motif for somebody, and there were nothing but owls and a couple of peacocks.

    • frannyprof

You had me at “owl in a tree.”

      • homofascist

Right? My love of owls and squirrels really helped me connect to this collection.

        • demidaemon

Same here, although it is love by association, from my mother.

          • homofascist

Me too – my mother was a great lover of animals and nature and the outdoors. She always tended a garden and fed the birds and glared angrily at deer hunters who would wander onto our property.

            • demidaemon

My mother actually goes through phases. She’s in a heavy owl phase right now. Horses are always in, as she used to ride them, and elephants, as my grandmother really loved elephants. My mother is the same, although she has taken to feeding the neighborhood stray cat to prevent him from eating the birds and chases the naughty squirrels.

            • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

When I was growing up my grandmother had an owl collection. She had hundreds of them, collected from all over the world. After 30 years she got sick of them and gave nearly all of them away.

I’m not crazy about the appliques, but I love the fabrics with the owls, squirrels and flowers.

            • demidaemon

I showed my mom everything (she’s not a regular at the site, despite my showing it to her all the time) and she LOVED everything with the owls, appliques and fabrics included. If only I were rich…

        • kimmeister

I was drawn to the squirrels too. They are #3 on my list of favorite animals.

      • SugarSnap108

I’m kind of amazed at how well hoods, owls and squirrels are working for me here.

      • luluransom

Me too, me too! I was scrolling down going ‘oh my god owls, oh my god keys, oh my god SQUIRRELS!!’

      • littlemac8

I would love to swan around in that blue owl dress (see what I did there?).

        • frannyprof

Don’t want to be to squirrelly about this, but a little birdie told me it would look owl-fully good on you!

    • SewingSiren

Hoods, Applique, Lace! Love love love!

    • In_Stitches

Not a huge fan of the clothes, but the palette is gorgeous. Plum and teal and burgundy with punchy pops of the primaries…I love it.

    • KT

Ehhhh. Aside from exactly three of these looks, I’m kind of over D&G’s whole schtick. I guess Little Red Riding Hood meets old-world funeral isn’t really my aesthetic.

      • zenobar

        Grape Gravy, I say.

    • Anna

I need some bejeweled hoods and arm warmers in my life.

    • Blair Sylvester

Did they go to the same museum as Valentino ? Did Valentino and D&G enter Italian project runway and make it to the finals where they were tasked with creating a collection based off a trip to a museum ? Who won ?

    • PinkySlinky

      That group shot is everything…

      • Jacob Bowen

Someone needs to yell, “Watch out for the glittery french maid mafia!”

    • Bridget Smith

There’s a real Grimm vibe to this collection, which I’m very much into. The HOODS.

      • FrigidDiva

That’s what I got too. Especially the Little Red Riding Hood look.

    • marlie

It’s crazy, but such gorgeous, sumptuous fabrics and detailing! I really love it, especially the pieces with the appliques. This collection will require PhD-level ladystars to pull it off on the red carpet, but I look forward to seeing Cate and Tilda in some of this. Maybe Lupita, too.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Or Zooey setting her twee-gun to 11.

        • marlie

UGH. I hope not. But this collection was also made for Florence Welch.

    • PeggyOC

Looks like a “clean out the closet” year. They had some stuff left over from the Byzantine collections, some other stuff knocking around and then they grabbed the glue gun. There’s some good stuff here, but it feels very disjointed.

    • amaranth16

That teal laced-up bodice dress is gorgeous.

      Love the keys.

    • JauntyJohn

“Hey! What if the ‘Game of Thrones’ characters were all like, Amish people or something?”

    • demidaemon

If I had unlimited funds, I would be buying every piece featuring owls for my mother.

So glad to see D & G get away from the widow’s weeds and lace and go somewhere new.

    • FrigidDiva

So was the inspiration for the collection Eastern European fairy tales? I don’t really care for the owl pieces, and I’m not really sure where one would wear an evening gown with a squirrel pattern, but there are a few looks I wouldn’t mind housing in my closet.

    • MilaXX

Some of the piece look over appliqued, but for the most part I like this collection. It sure as heck beats widows weeds.

    • ballerinawithagun

I’ve been so bored with D & G for so long that this was a joy!

      • SketchyCat

No doubt! I came here fully prepared to say that I am SO over them and their shtick, but instead was pleasantly surprised. Some of these pieces look downright ethereal.

    • Jacob Bowen

OH MY GOSH THAT BLUE OWL DRESS!

      • @Biting Panda

The long one? Dead. I need it in my afterlife.

    • Nicole Little

      Lovewant!

    • Tanya Wade

Put a bird on it? And a squirrel, too?

      • SketchyCat

That was one of my first thoughts too! D&G are Portlandia fans. Who knew?

    • hughman

“Give a Hoot, Dress up Cute.”

      • Coleen

Want that blue owl dress. Afraid of what that says about me.

    • Ediths_Head

I really love this collection, especially the blue owl gown, but the fur diapers in no. 5 (just above the red) are beyond the beyond.

    • Grumpy Girl

That black and red suit is mine!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

      Flats! Flats! Flats! :)
Coifs and capes this season? Indeed, why not?
Please give me everything with owls on it. Thank you.

    • ellatheingenue

      LURVE

    • Gatto Nero

The armor + chain mail references are interesting, but overall this doesn’t feel cohesive.

    • Aidan B

LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing so many beautiful prints, and I want to wear everything that has owls on it, plus the black skeleton key gown. This is the most positively I’ve responded to one of their collections in a long time.

    • jilly_d

Love everything but the woodland creature applique. I let out an audible gasp at that photo of the army of Fashion Unsullied at the end. Out of the way everyone! We have cities to free!

    • Sarah

I love this stuff. I wanna go live in the world they came from!

    • Alyssa

I love owls, so I was predestined to adore this collection. I will take that blue owl cocktail dress please! There are a lot of truly beautiful pieces here, and I love the deep rich colors.

    • YoungSally

Game of Thrones meets Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood?

    • lobsterlen

      Flats!

    • Danielle

…On second thought, let’s not go to Camelot. ‘Tis a silly place.

    • kategs

ohhhhh the squirrel coat and the black and red suit are calling my name loudly…

    • MaggieMae

Not exactly new, but I like.

    • alyce1213

A lot of beautiful and a little scary (an army of leggy, bejeweled crusaders). The boots are really special.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Guinevere? Your gowns are here, darling. You can wear them directly out of the atelier and go straight to the jousting match without having to change.

    • kittenwithaquip

      FALL 2014 IS COMING.
(To paraphrase “Game of Thrones”.) That’s some Medieval by way of Etsy lookin’ shit. Not that it’s bad, but…whoa. Stefano and Domenico seem to be channeling Versace lately, only less tacky opulence, and more whimsical opulence. Or something. I’ve reached maximum pretentious name-droppery for the day.

    • Imasewsure

I like the owl dress and everything in red (except the blasted monkey fur at the beginning).

    • fursa_saida

Rarely do I see a collection where my feelings are this divided. Some of it I adore and some of it I think is dull and silly (and I love all of the shoes except one pair), and there’s pretty much nothing here I feel neutral about. So hey, it’s not boring!

    • E. D.

Who is this for, medieval hipsters? A couple of interesting things, but otherwise I don’t get it.

    • MightyMarshal

Had I seen this without the title, my guess would have been Valentino. I love this. It’s a lot more fun than D&G have been in a while. I don’t think I saw a single funeral dress in the entire collection. This woman is the one I want teaching my future child’s elementary school. Fun and eccentric but decidedly chic.

    • Deedles

The Knights Who Say Ni demand a sacrifice!

    • Lesley

very knight in shining armor hmm?

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

FAIRY TALES! I loooove it. An outfit for every character.

    • Noah

Urban Outfitters. In the worst way.

    • rebeemoon

This looks like it was an awesome show. I kind of like the medieval knight head pieces and the gauntleted boots. The soft yellow and red owl prints are gorgeous.

    • save_the_hobbit

All the flow-y patterned dresses….give them to me.

      • http://sayanayogaslu.com Island_Mo

        me too

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Thousands of Etsy crafters are rubbing their hands together in anticipation of the mint they’ll make on knockoffs.

    • @Biting Panda

I’ve hated nearly everything today. I was chalking it up to mood. But now I think it must be fever, because I like most of this. A lot. Someone fetch mummy’s Pirin tablets.

    • boweryboy

A lot of it is too cutesy crafty to look high end. And sorry BKs, I hate to say this, but that red fur coat is all kinds of fabulous. I like to imagine it’s some amazing imitation fur.

    • MissAmynae

      Surprisingly, I love it.

    • conniemd

I like the collection except for the fact that it appears to utilize only 2 or 3 different shapes in the design. Very basic tunic shapes or empire waist. It still is interesting. Been watching Game of Thrones marathon the past week trying to catch up for the next season (having not watched it at all before) and this definitely fits the medieval look.

    • MzzPants

The last picture? I want to see that movie.

    • Daenyx

      I don’t actually hate it. Wow. That’s a first for a D&G collection. OWLS! <3

    • quiltrx

I’m gonna need a whole bolt of that grey/silver background fabric (1st and 7th looks), please.
I like all the looks with the black cutwork overlays. Some of the others I can take or leave…but I can’t with the crafts fair ones.
But I kind of want to go to the black and silver sparkle party at the end!

    • kipper

It is just wrong how much I love the red owl dress.

    • Mrcarly

I have a huge boner for this collection.

    • decormaven

Love the items with the key motif. Some VIP is going to show up in that red suit with black accents very soon.

    • GinaGeo

Does anyone else see this as the costuming for a Dystopian version of “Into the Woods”? I’d watch that.

      • AzSportsGirl

        Or this…..

    • AzSportsGirl

I saw this as costuming for a really high-end remake of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, with the Dark Knight in the 4th look.

      • GinaGeo

        Oooh, I’d watch that too!

    • BKagainwiththesweatpants

Agent Cooper, the owls are not what they seem…

    • DinnerIsServed1972

      Etsy&Gabbana

    • Jennifer McGuire

If I were a high-powered executive, the red suit with the black applique would be MINE. Also some serious coat porn here.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1180174329 Elizabeth Phillips

Who knew D&G had a maternity line.

    • sleepycat

Gasp a collection that looks independant of their other collections for the past 5 years. I really like the keys and the animals. I am a hipster-lite so I kinda like the “iron-ons.”

    • H2olovngrl

This is gorgeous. Sumptuous, cute, beautiful prints and patterns. There is so much good here…except for the scary rhinestone army at the end, there.

    • Corsetmaker

Some interesting things going on with this…. I like :)

    • Lower L

I love #23 and #40 in the group of small pictures. They are so classy and sleek.

    • paintedfish

      medieval crafter couture?

    • EEKstl

      Knights Templar Realness.

    • Clash D

Apart from Little Red Riding Chewbacca in the sixth photo, I must say that I like this whimsical collection.
