Dita Von Teese at the Carolina Herrera Show in NYC

Posted on February 11, 2014

No time for talk at the moment, darlings. We’re dashing about. And by that we mean, limping along, trying to make it to the New York Fashion Week finish line, where there will no doubt be carbs and bedroom slippers waiting for us.

In the meantime, enjoy some fabulous, courtesy of Miss Dita and Miss Carolina.

Dita Von Teese attends the Carolina Herrera fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2014 at The Theatre at Lincoln Center in New York City.

She walked right past us and we did the most embarrassing gay gasp. Only she could make those sleeves work.

She is just STRIKING and those sleeves are what I would love to wear as a retired old gay man.

    • StellaZafella

Hunny, as a retired old drag queen I have TRIED to wear those sleeves…and loved every minute of it, (even the side-long stares)!
Jacob, we are men of a kind.

PS: I see Gene Tierney in the shots of Dita…from the silhouette to the attitude…it could be 1946 all over again.

      • @Biting Panda

And just like that, I am saddened to realize, no matter my achievements in life, I’ll never get to be a retired old drag queen. I am truly missing out.

        • Ginger

        • StellaZafella

Let me tell you, as a man – after spending all those nights in pre-Gaga platforms and sprung heels all I can say is: “Old cinches make great lower back braces!” (and I STILL walk funny…but, come to think of it, I always did!)

      • Lucía Gavello

Just retired darling, as the saying goes in Argentina “rags are old”… it gets lost in translation but the point is, things get old, you get fabulous 😉

      • Jacob Bowen

Stella, I hope I get to be a retired old drag queen some day!

  • PlethoraofBooks

    I want this.

But I could never pull it off.

    • Lucía Gavello

I want the coat she was wearing outside! (check it out at the fug girls site) I could totally pull that off, the sleeves -while fabulous- are way out of my league.

  • Vanessa

She always looks like she stepped right out of the 1940’s — in a fabulous way.

    • marlie

The perfect definition of “retro,” and NOT “dated.”

    • Lucía Gavello

Exactly! I’d look like a clown with that makeup, and check out the ‘do! That is some MAGICAL product there.

  • Anna

This is how you look sexy in winter. And Carolina is the very picture of soigne.

    • Qitkat

I would like to be referred to as ‘soignée’ just once in my life.

      • Anna

*sigh* Me too. My love for loud colours and prints automatically rules me out though.

  • Nikko Viquiera

Weather-appropriate and Dita appropriate —>winning combo!

  • demidaemon

These are some boobs I could get behind. Wondrous.

    • Jacob Bowen

My face would get in front of them…a motorboat is always fun!

      • bellafigura1

  • …I want to accept that challenge but am bereft of such sleeves…

  • And THAT is how we do pleated pants. Glorious.

    • Hermione

I know! Back in the 90’s, I had a pair of pleated pants (actually,to a pants suit) that I LOVED and that I think really looked good on me. If they fit perfectly, have the right drape, are the right length, yadda yadda yadda, they can be so great.
Dita’s actually look a little small, around the zipper area–plus the creasing. But with all that, I love all the pieces AND the combination of the charcoal grey (?) pants and beigey silk/satin–and of course only on her, the sleeves.

      • Me too – I think I got them in ’89, they were charcoal twill with a faint fancy stripe, from Benetton. Gorgeous. Of course, I was very, very slim and 16 so they had good things to work with.

        • Hermione

Yes–I had a flat stomach then. I think that is one of the keys–you can’t wear the pleated pants to hide a tummy. It’s kind of counterintuitive, I think, but a flat front is better if your tummy isn’t flat and pleats work best if it is!

  • Daktari100

    Love her vintage style.

  • Noah

She’s ready to fly right out of there.

  • Danielle

This is a Be Me and a Do Me look, because I definitely want to do both.

  • ashtangajunkie

Spectacular. I would like to take ‘How to’ lessons from Ms. Dita.

  • Aaaand that’s why she’s my puppy’s namesake.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

Be sure to Gay Gasp as your puppy strolls by, for full effect.

  • Sofia Bentivoglio

those sleeves are truly awful, but on dita they add another layer of sensuous texture in addition to the silk and satin. if you don’t want to roll around with her in that shirt, you must not have a pulse.

  • Chickadeep

Never be embarrassed about a well-placed Gay Gasp.

  • skitzfiggitous

You know that she is powered by Gay Gasps. You probably just gave her enough juice to make it to the end of fashion week.

  • mjude

of course you gay gasped, how could you not right? love her.

    • Ginger

I gay gasped and I’m straight!

  • LuisaNL

  • vwinsloe

We call those 2nd Amendment sleeves.

  • marlie

FUR SLEEVES! Only Dita. I’m always blown away by how flawless and beautiful her hair and makeup always are.

  • Kent Roby

These photos are wonderful proof to desperate starlets, silly designers, and Miss Klum that one can look much sexier without exposing one’s entire body every time they step out of the house. Perfection.

  • MzzPants

    That’s one fabulous bitch.

  • MilaXX

Nice to see someone dressed seasonally appropriate.

    • mjude

finally & of course its Ms. Dita!

  • Richard Harper

    Brilliant and unique.

  • KinoEye

Serious skin envy over here, and a slap in the face to that ridiculous idea that one needs to be tan in order to be beautiful. I’d rather see flawless porcelain than old leather any day.

    • Anna

Couldn’t agree more. I lived in the Philippines until I was 6 and my mom and my aunts were always yelling at my cousins and I about being in the sun too long.

Even after we all moved to Canada and to this day, they’ll still bust out the umbrellas if they think it’s too sunny.

      • KinoEye

Yep. I can’t tan anyway — I either turn lobster red or freckle — and since skin cancer runs in my family, I embrace the pale.

        • Ginger

        • Anna

For sure, I tan very easily but at the end of the day, tanning is skin damage.

One of my favourite cartoonists described those overly tanned types you see at the gym (and I guess anywhere else, but there seems to be high concentrations of them at the gym) as having the appearance of “inbred baked potatoes” lol.

  • Jessica Freeman

I saw Dita & Carolina and thought, this will not disappoint. And it didn’t.

  • ConnieBV

    Sasquatcharms. No.

  • teensmom99

Well, there’s someone else who could make those sleeves work: Norma Shearer.

    • Kent Roby

      Bless you, yes.

    • kimmeister

      I don’t think a shearer should go near those sleeves . . .

      • teensmom99

        • kimmeister

          Yes! Mission accomplished.

  • amanda siegelson

sorry, the idea of using fur, especially for something as frivolous as sleeves to a shirt, makes me violently ill.

    huge NO.

    • kittenwithaquip

      I assume they are faux-fur.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

I’m hoping so. I die a little when I see someone I love wearing real.

      • amanda siegelson

sadly, i really do not think they are faux. way too many designers use real fur all the time now.

  • Rand Ortega

  • kimmeister

There will also be a pile of cozy kitties waiting for the uncles at that finish line!

The powers of Dita are impressive indeed, but I am dismayed by the wonkiness happening around her zipper area.

  • Tatiana Luján

The sleeves are the only thing I like about that shirt.
Florence Welch could pull this look off, I think.

    • understateddiva

The colors and the idea I like for her, but I think her broad shoulders (which are fabulous, just not for this outfit) would throw the proportions off. Then again, I’ve seen her look cool is some furry jacket or other once, so who knows?

  • Shawn EH

Those sleeves are definitely only meant to be rack-adjacent. Like mustaches around lips!

  • So gorgeous. That skin! Ugh…how I wish I had that winter complexion. Just porcelain and stunning. Love her.

  • JauntyJohn

It’s worth a course of study to determine how she is able to strike an amazing — and consistent! — balance between evoking a specific era as beautifully as she does and yet never feel stale or costumey — because she always feels chic and current, too. I guess we could just call it “classic” but that seems too easy a label to slap on her continuing style tightrope walk.

  • Heather

TLo, would love to know, what does she look like in person?

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Don’t worry about the gay gasp – I just did a straight gasp! Scrolldown Flawless!

  • Monabel

BIG SLEEVES! Powerful and expressive! (Delores del Rio in “Flying down to Rio!”)

  • RussellH88

She really is perfect, isn’t she?

  • stubbornthoughts

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

She’s wearing clothes that cover her from neck to toe and looks a million times sexier than Miley Cyrus in her latex panties. Please take note, young lady starlets!

  • LJCdoc

I hope you got her attention with your gasp and you got to have a fabulous conversation with her!

  • Milos Mom

So rare to see her in slacks but I suppose even a Diva must give in when it is cold enough. I don’t care for how they fall at the bottom or the shoe, reminding us that she is such the skirt girl.

  • Tracey Magyar

  • LaSylphide

Obviously tending to her inner Xavier Cugat/Desi Arnaz. Great look for her.

  • Pennymac

How on earth does she make those sleeves work? On anyone else they’d veer toward “silverback” territory.
Dita magic; its a powerful thing.

  • Carly Clement

It is good in theory on her, but her bust just looks awful! it does not look flattering on her at all! and the whole outfit as a whole makes her look short and slightly stocky!

  • formerlyAnon

I love her trousers. I mean, the sleeves are gorgeous, but would at no period have really worked for my life (and let us not imagine how much coffee they’d get dragged into). The trousers, otoh, once would have been mine. When my abdomen was flatter. They look a bit snug in the waist band on Ms. Dita, and those pleats may be partially buttoned down, but they are front pleats. not for mere mortals of a certain silhouette.

  • elzatelzabelz

Snaps. Respect. She looks perfect in what others would make look silly.

  • icm

    Icon,need I say more

  • quiltrx

Miss Dita…making even bizarre clothing awesome, to our delight.

  • hmb

Million watt complexion! I am green with envy.

  • Diego!

Though she looks amazing, I can’t praise someone wearing fur. Sorry.

  • Gawd I want those pants. She is a goddess, making those sleeves look like an “of course.”

  • PeaceBang

And with a peche pussy bow. I bow.

  • decormaven

    Glorious! Nothing less than fab.
