Blake Lively at the Michael Kors Fall 2014 Show

Posted on February 13, 2014

Our thoughts, they are a jumble, darlings.

Blake Lively at the Michael Kors Fall 2014 fashion show in New York City.

Michael Kors Spring 2014 Collection

On the one hand, we saw her there and she really did look amazing in this outfit. Tall, blonde, tan and leggy as hell, she was the perfect person to wear this look. On the other hand, we sure wish someone had done a little more in the way of styling here, instead of duplicating the runway look. But we’re tilting at windmills here. The whole point to her presence in the front row is to show off the brand, so of course she’d wind up looking like she walked out of a lookbook or ad campaign.

On the other, other hand…

We think we kind of love her for not even bothering to pretend she’s not freezing her ass off. Perfection is for others, just get her to a warm limo, pronto.

Refresh my lazy memory, is she a spokesperson for MK? She really should be. It’s all so very her.

    • tereliz

So blonde and leggy and Californian. Isn’t that exactly Kors’ girl? The colors on her are fab abd I ADORE the shoes. I don’t mind the duplication of the runway look since the shoes and jacket are closed, and she’s at least not flashing bare toes and midriff in February. Far be it from me to complain when Blake takes a runway look and makes it classier instead of, well, you know.

I’ve long thought she should rep the brand if only to keep her safe from some of her own questionable “I don’t have a stylist” style choices. If something looks hiddy, this way she can blame it on the Duchess.

  • hughman

Of all the fifth grade teachers, she is my favorite.

    • Noah

You knew a fifth grader with a dramatic front-slit?

      • hughman

        • Noah

Ha! I totally meant to say “fifth grade teacher.” Whoooooooops.

But still, if my fifth grade teacher had worn a slit up to her thigh, there’d have been WORDS.

    • You shared a fifth grade teacher with Van Halen?

    • cmb92191

I’m a middle school teacher and if I could afford it (and fit into it) I’d wear that in a heartbeat. (buttoned up of course!)

    • ShaoLinKitten

To me she looks like a trophy wife who is no longer in the bloom of extreme youth, dressing to be taken seriously at the country club luncheon but unable to resist a deep front slit. She thinks the way the shoes match the belt match the skirt match the coat looks sophisticated.

      • fooepi

I think the belt is too penis-y. Some menswear designer had a while bunch of his Berks like that too 🙁

  • KingCrazy

I don’t care for her one bit, but I can’t lie. I LOVE this outfit. Head to toe.

    • Trent

I like the outfit, but I LOVE the hair. Especially in the outdoor shots — so shiny and Pantene-ad gorgeous.

  • Ginger

I covet this entire outfit even though I’d have to stitch up that cooch slit quite a bit to make it work appropriate.

    • How hot is your boss? There could be a promotion in the works.

      • Ginger

Well…my boss is a woman and I’m not a lesbian, so there’s just one of those problems. HA!

        • To the sewing kit! LOL

        • Lucía Gavello

Same here, and If showed up with that slit, well… let’s just say I wouldn’t be employed for long.

  • Jecca2244

i got a question for the BK’s….do celebs get paid to sit in the front row? like actual cold hard cash? or just they will be dressed etc? I was wondering that yesterday with Diane Kruger, Gwen P, and Reese at Jason Wu’s show for Hugo Boss. Seemed like a pretty good front row…

    • I believe there is cold hard cash and freebies involved.

      • ovarB

You know…I like my cash warm and soft.

        • fursa_saida

          Snuggly, cuddly cash.

      • Lisa_Co

I believe there is cash involved.

    • MilaXX

Pretty sure they do since it pretty much guarantees the paparazzi will go nuts which is basically loads of free advertising.

      • fursa_saida

For some it may have to do with maintaining “relationships” with designers, which pays off later on the red carpet.

    • I googled, out of nosiness, and came upon a feature in Business Insider on how much it costs to show at NYFW. It says Beyonce gets $100k to sit front row and Blake Lively gets (or got last year) about $50k. I’ll link to the piece but it’ll take a while to get through moderation.

      • Jecca2244

        That is INSANE!

        • Yes, yes it is. If they have a contractual obligation they don’t get paid though. So poor old Jennifer Lawrence has to go to the Dior show wearing ungodly Frankenpants and doesn’t even get paid extra (I assume her contract is pretty lucrative though).

      • alyce1213

Thanks for doing the legwork! Most interesting.

      • SierraDelta

        I’d sit there looking dazzled for 10K. . .

  • marlie

Despite this being an exactly replica of the (summer) runway look, it looks good on her, and it suits. her. And I respect her for not pending that she’s not freezing her ass off. Still, she’s one of the most blandly boring celebs out there.

  • Tall, tan, leggy blonde is Blake’s specialty, after all. I love this outfit, and am pleased with the shoes!

  • Boobs Legsly does socialite wife. She just can’t keep those boobs and legslys contained! All the other moms at the bake sale are giving her the cold shoulder for catching their husbands’ wandering eyes. She didn’t expect the transition from showgirl to philanthropist soccer mom to be so hard.

    • DTLAFamilies

    • FrigidDiva

This sounds far more interesting than any of the movies she or her husband have been in lately.

  • demidaemon

Well, the only way she ever gets anything right is to copy the runway look exactly, so I can’t really fault that here. MK is doing smart brand management.

    • Kent Roby

      Loving the back-handed compliment!

      • demidaemon

Thank you, thank you. I’m here till Friday.

  • Thank Maude she buttoned the blazer.

    • filmcricket

      Stealing “Thank Maude” right now.

  • Again, I hate the high front slit. I also don’t like how high she has the belt – it cuts off the line of the pockets on the jacket. This is a perfect high-end real estate agent outfit.

    • FrigidDiva

Is the front slit a new thing for spring? I’m really not a fan at all.

      • Seems to be a Michael Kors thing for spring. I am also not at all a fan!

  • sojourneryouth

    Stupid knotted belt is stupid.

  • Betsy

I’ve never really gotten her appeal but here, I finally see it. Her skin looks amazing. Her hair looks shiny and healthy. All her “try” is paying off.

  • Jacob Bowen

This is REALLY pretty, and very wearable (minus the slit). And, for one of the first times ever, I think I love a floral print…at least a tan one on a navy skirt!

  • ovarB

Are split crotch skirts all the rage on the runway???

  • LuisaNL

LOVE everything about this look. She looks awesome.

  • colleenjanel

Give her an actual lip color, and I’d love the whole look.

  • Beige is her power color. That is not said with any bombast, either.

  • Little_Olive

A while ago a gifted commenter of this blog said she is the human-fashion version of a golden retriever (more graciously, but my memory fails). I’m still clapping.

  • MilaXX

Glad to see someone in fashion actually acknowledging the weather.

  • Alyssa

J’adore this outfit, minus the front slit. I wish I could afford it to wear to work.

  • Jessica Freeman

See Blake, its beneficial when you let OTHER people dress you.

  • Glam Dixie

She is really gorgeous, isn’t she? I mean, look at that hair and look how great she can look, she has the perfect figure for clothes. It’s such a shame she refuses to get a stylist who knows what to do with her. Kors stuff suits her to a tee, she seems to be exactly his demographic.

  • She looks very pretty.

  • Danielle

She gets to look at Ryan Reynolds naked any time she wants so she is squarely on my irrational hate list.

  • Pennymac

Oh, crap. Are those front slit skirts going to be a thing again? I hate those. A slim skirt with a slit in the back is so much better. Having said that, I really love this, well, other than the slit to there, I mean.

  • jw_ny

The outfit…it’s nice, ok, doesn’t seem like “fashion” to me though. Aside from the bikini top, it looks like something one would wear to a secretarial job (or the like), rather than to a fashion show. I’m not liking that belt over the jacket either…just looks odd in this case.

  • Vickiefantastico

She looks beautiful, simply stunning, and I love the outfit. However, this doesn’t look exactly earth shattering. I feel like I’ve seen this all before, just not on as striking of a person. It’s kind of a very normal outfit, if that makes sense.

  • Anna

Ah, Blake, I’ve missed you and your constant proclamations of not using a stylist like it should be a matter of pride for you. Outfit seems too small though, as per your usual standards.

  • CB

Lively and Kors kind of look like they could be related, no?…like an unseasonably tan father/daughter pair.

  • alliekat9090

Love it. I find her refreshingly pretty-kind of effortlessly beautiful but “normal” looking. She looks like a real person in a sea of freaks.

  • Gatto Nero

Hate the poufy gathered sleeve and the crotch-high slit.
Kors’ clothes mostly just bore me. But she’s got the sort of conventionally-pretty blandness to set this off.

  • unbornfawn

Wish she’d worn the coat properly it looks lovely.

  • understateddiva

It looks like it says “Tilda” over Kors’ head – did she have a pre-planned Kors outfit to wear to this show too?

  • VicD

She looks like a cruise director. She has it all, but there is absolutely nothing special about her.

  • Karen Tamarack

I have no idea what a Blake Lively is, but I’ll give it to her. She looks great.

  • Aly

ohhh I HATE this. It reminds me of early 2000s embroidered denim.

  • GoAwayKardash

Belts that are tied like that = trying too hard.

  • GeoDiva

    That front slit is scary!

  • YoungSally

She’s very pretty — and I understand really pretty in person — but just so….generic.

  • Columbinia

She looks good, the clothes look good.

  • Man, that right there is the definition of “matchy.”

  • SierraDelta

The Duchess looks less orange than usual.

  • quiltrx

She looked fine until Kors came over, and everything went askew.
P.S., I find her more boring than I can describe.

  • Miss wks

Please…the penis belt is sooooo 80’s.

  • her makeup is atrocious. she has on way too much too light foundation and her forehead is shining like a beacon in the night. her face is a different color than the rest of her tanned leggy self.

  • gefeylich

She’s so stultifyingly boring it doesn’t matter what she wears or how perfect it looks. She’s the only person around who is more vapid than Kim Kardashian, and that’s saying a lot.

    • MannahattaMamma

Kim isn’t vapid b/c she’s too aggressive & ambitious & terrifying & hollow. She’s horrible but in an active look-at-the-train-blow-up sort of way. Blake Lively is human equivalent of watching (blonde) paint dry.

  • Diego!

She looks amazing! She should stick to Michael Kors as a favorite brand for her to wear. I love that coat too! Way to go Blake!

  • A Shiny O’Connor

She doesn’t use a stylist you know. How smart of her to choose a complete runway look, button up the jacket, throw the belt over, and swap nude sandals for nude pumps. That’s some genius self-stylin’.

    • decormaven

      Paint By Numbers styling.

      • A Shiny O’Connor

I know. Some would say, no styling at all 😉

    • A Shiny O’Connor

I point out that I am being sarcastic above.

  • ashtangajunkie

She is so much more Kors than Karl. Hope it sticks! Love that coat.

  • GillianHolroyd

I dunno. She is so bland, that if she sinks into Kors she might disappear entirely.

  • Kikishua

It’s very pretty, but I feel as if the shoes, belt, pattern colour, are all too close a match to her hair. Overall, I’m too beige-d by that.

  • Well done.
