Black Sail by Nautica Fall 2014 Collection

Posted on February 08, 2014

We could talk about how this collection was inspired by images of the frozen tundra, or about how much we love the chunky sweaters, puffy outerwear, and overall “Explorer Chic” feel of it all, but we suspect you’ve scrolled quickly past these words and there’s no reason for us to continue typing.

We will say it’s a great collection, though. And we love that digital printed puffy jacket. Also: Lorenzo is swooning over the turtlenecks, but Tom thinks —

Fine. Shutting up now.

      I’ll be in my bunk…

      • MzzPants

Jayne could’ve been a model in this show.

        • sienna elm

          So could Captain Tight Pants!

    • laura

Some of these guys are going to be really cold on the tundra… I volunteer to help keep them warm :)

    • jilly_d

There were clothes? I love that Nautica gets MEN to model, not underweight teen sad sacks. The open sweater with the chest hair? HUMMANA HUMMANA HUMMANA

      • ShaoLinKitten

Body hair lovers like us need to speak out more. I’d like to see more hairy male models and actors and fewer men feeling ashamed of their body hair. Lots of us like it a whole lot.

        • YoungSally

I wonder if that model is Manganiello’s understudy

          • ShaoLinKitten

Manganiello always sports a hairless chest, though. Yes, I notice these things.

        • Jacob Bowen

Yes, please!!!!! LOVE some hairy male models…

        • Nazzzy

And that happy trail is making me veeeeerrry happy right now

      • kmk05

I KNOW RIGHT?! I was going to say that the models aren’t fetuses, and isn’t that amazing and then BAM, THAT TREASURE TRAIL. YUM. I continued scrolling in hopes of witnessing more of it but unfortunately his chest-exposing cohorts are bare. Sad times. Scrolling back up to look at the clothes, now. Maybe.

        • marlie

“Scrolling back up to look at the clothes, now.” Yeah, suuuuure. 😉

      • Alloy Jane

Right? I love that they actually look like men and not teenagers dressed as men.

    • MilaXX

Oh my! *scrolls back up to hairy shirtless guy.*

      • MzzPants

        Amen, sister.

        • boweryboy

      • homofascist

Fer serious. Between him and all of the hairy muscular calves this has been a good way to start my morning…

      • Danielle

My computer must have a glitch, it keeps scrolling back up to him. Over and over and over…

    • MzzPants

Furry six pack is my new favorite thing.

    • Alanna

Hey, guys? What’s the point of wearing fleece and sweaters if you’re just going to hike your pants up to your knees? (Yeah, I know it’s probably to show off the socks.) Reminds me of all those bros here in Atlanta who wear shorts and t-shirts in 30-degree weather, just so we can see that they’re studly manly men who don’t care about the cold.

      • foodycatAlicia

It’s like girls wearing scarves and mini skirts with bare legs.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

If you’re going to open your sweater to expose your beautiful hairy chest, just take the damn thing off. Oh, and those pants can go too.

    • anonylind

    • dash1211

      Lord. have. mercy

    • another_laura

      Oh my …. Ahem ….

So, the clothes. I wish I had a guy I could buy some of this for. Beautiful!

    • Aidan B

Woof. Mama like. Oh, were there clothes here? I didn’t notice.

    • Snoskred

The shoes with the – I am assuming it is – Velcro closures.. wow, these are so gorgeous. I would like to know more.

I’m with you guys on the digital puffy jacket. Love. :)

    • ShaoLinKitten

His models are gorgeous, and the clothes are great too. LOVE IT that one of the bare chested models was hairy and bearded… thanks for that!

    • foodycatAlicia

    • pookiesmom

Do the guys come with the clothes? YUM.

    • Janet B

Nautica is always one of my favorites; the men, the outwear, the men.

    • alyce1213

The clothes are great — especially love the longer coats. The men are too gorgeous for words.
But: sweaterbelt alert. It’s one of my pet peeves.

      • kmk05

I’m just wondering why, since they don’t need to cover up period mishaps. Everyone knows what sweaterbelts are for. Or maybe I’ve been traumatised by my own experiences, ha.

    • unbornfawn

Love this collection. Not a clunker in the group. Love the Manly men. Turtlenecks aren’t for everyone. A longer neck and not minding all the fabric around your neck are key factors. Lorenzo can have all the turtlenecks and you boys won’t have to fight over who gets them. Tom gets a kick ass coat.

    • Gaby

Which digitally printed puffer jacket do y’all love? I think the black and white one might be a little unflattering (it seems to be making the model look hippy) but the blue ocean print one is GORGEOUS and I totally agree. Also I love men in chunky sweaters but my boyfriend always says he has enough sweaters. Maybe I can use this collection to convince him to get a few more…

      • Jacob Bowen

The 7th picture (better known as the 2nd above the beautiful hairy chested model), is my absolute FAVORITE! Tell your bf he can NEVER have enough clothing, well at least that’s my motto.

    • Jeremy Thomas Porta

      Talk about jawlines…god damn.

    • snarkykitten

      feh. you can keep ’em.

    • Nazzzy

Oh, the hairy chest. How I love them so…

    • SugarSnap108

Good lord – especially you, Mr. Fourth-from-the-Bottom.

I think I like some of the clothes, too.

    • joything

yes, shut up! I have pretty men to look at. In sweaters.

    • DKBB

I didn’t notice the clothes, but oh the models….warms me up on this cold, deep winter’s day. 😉

    • DeTrop

Well OK now. Finally, a mens’ sports collection that isn’t precious. Some seriously nice clothes, which I’ll have to go back and look at again. 😉

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Beautiful men in beautiful clothes. This is fashion my husband could get into (and which I’d promptly get him out of.) It will look ruggedly sexy on the floor by the bed.

      • Sarah

Yess. Mine’s more pirate than polar explorer, but Sexy Longshoreman is definitely in his wheelhouse, so I could see him in some of those sweaters, the jackets, and definitely the boots. Hubba hubba.

    • Allie Carter

Why didn’t we have Nautica design team USA outfits? Our athletes wouldn’t have ended up in grandma’s 4th of July sweater.

    • marlie

I like the coats and sweaters too… Oh HI THERE, shirtless, hairy-chested guy.

    • Jacob Bowen

I would wear EVERY SINGLE PIECE! That shiny jacket is especially awesome…

    • Toby Wollin

So, I just happened to look at the Bastian collection before I looked at this. What a difference. Bastian is self-absorbed (a couple of nice pieces and I like the sweaters), but definitely for the guy with money who checks himself out in the windows as he walks down the street. This is a totally different deal – highly wearable for a lot of guys with all sorts of builds. I’m not sure what the message is with all the beefcake models – the clothing doesn’t need pecs to sell it, frankly. But some great stuff here.

      • demidaemon

It doesn’t need it, but it sure helps. And it gets one to look at the collection more than once. Advertising feat accomplished.

    • boweryboy

I can see myself wearing a few pieces here and there. And I know most of it is runway styling, but I can’t get behind exposed shins or shorts for fall. It’s snowing as I type this. At least I get that the shirtless guys are simply gratuitous beefcake.

      • Jacob Bowen

        No More Manscaping is RIGHT!

      • lundibleu

I had much the same thought – the styling is crackpot, but then I got distracted by the hairy chest and woolly cardigan. Come play with me and I’ll show you how to wear trousers properly.

    • filmcricket

Must say I don’t care much for the clothes. The colours are pretty, but skier/snowboarder brosephs are just as capable of being douchey as the most neck-bearded, fedora sporting hipster. The men are pretty stunning though.

    • quiltrx

Whoever does model casting for Nautica always has exquisite taste. Is it wrong that I’m totally jelly of the redhead’s bobbed hair?
I like the jackets of course, and I really like all the shoes/boots/whatever!

    • sunflower

My two favorite things: cute boys in cute coats!

    • Sunraya

I like some, but I can’t get past the third pic down – it reminds me of the “snorkel” coats we had in the early 70s that zippered all the way up and in front of your face! I can’t unsee it!

    • Anna

I want to be snowed in with Mr. Hairy Chest and NEVER be rescued.

      • Harry

        I feel you

    • Harry

      love this

    • decormaven

Number thirteen would be a nice Valentine’s Day present for one of the dear uncles, just saying.

    • demidaemon

The styling is so goofy it almost distracts from the boys. Almost.

But those shorts and open shirts–much as I love the man flesh on display–MAKE NO FUCKING SENSE FOR A FALL COLLECTION.

    • Alyssa

The model in the opening pic is so dreamy! That’s all I can muster right now.

    • rebeemoon

About halfway through, I had to remind myself to look at the clothes. This brand definitely does NOT feature the skinny Euro-model.

    • minervathena

      Oh. Oh my. ::blush::

Seriously though, all they need are some penguins and huskies waddling/trotting down the runway with them. Then this would all be perfect.
