Anna Sui Fall 2014 Collection

Posted on February 14, 2014

Taking her inspiration from 1920s actress Anna May Wong, Anna Sui offered up a luxurious, 1920s-without-being-literal-about-it, collection of rock and roll 21st Century Chinoiserie. Bold, colorful, a veritable banquet for the eyes, it manages to run the gamut from attitude to elegance, with wardrobe essentials for just about every kind of lady (and certain kinds of men) in between. Love it all.

It’s all so Anna Sui! Which is to say, gorgeous to look at but not my style. Except for the shoes. I’ll take one of each (though I might re-gift the orange-red and mustard numbers.) Sui was born to dress vampires.

    • tereliz

It’s SOOO my style (or at least, it was ten years ago before I had a day-job and a 401k). This might have been my favorite show of the season. I’m hard-pressed to pick a favorite piece, but I wouldn’t be upset it someone gave me that black and white coat from look 11!

Crotch fringe! This is delightful – I just watched “Enchanted April” for the first time last week and have been jonesing for more great 1920′s chinoiserie!

    • kimmeister

Note to self: Go add Enchanted April to Netflix queue.

  • Jacob Bowen

Generally, I like most of the items, but I DO NOT like the 2 looks that look like they are made of fluffy bath mats. Also, the male model with the beard is INTERESTING…

    • Ginger

      He’s very Raspuntin-esque, no?

      • Alyssa

That is the perfect description of him!

    • understateddiva

I am totally drawn to him! It must be the guyliner + beard?

    • CelandineM

Scary demented evil yogi from a B movie, he is creeping me out!

  • Miss wks

By far….one of the best collections this season….

  • ShaoLinKitten

Florence Welch is going to rock the hell out of this collection. Also, the model with the flame red hair is gorgeous, and I love it that we are seeing so many bearded men in the runway these days.

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

That was the first thing I was thinking: “Paging…. Florence Welsh…your 2014 wardrobe has arrived.”

  • crash1212

Beautiful textiles. Great boots. I did not expect the beardy in the skirt!

  • NYCGlamourpuss

There’s literally nothing here that I don’t love! SO fucking cool!

    • Ginger

My sentiments exactly! Side note: you weren’t around for a week or so. I missed you!

  • Trickytrisha

I am shivering with delight. Everything about the collection is a feast for the eyes. The cultural references are perfectly applied and fresh, the colors are sumptious, the styling spot on and attractive. Perfection on a stick, IMO.

  • mjude

    love. it. all.

  • Ginger

Fan-fucking-tastic! I love it. I love it all. Ahhhh…to be a skinny rich bitch.

  • Pennymac

Ooooh, this made my inner Stevie Nicks leap for joy! I want it all!

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Yay, my wardrobe renewal has arrived!

  • Dandesun

Magnificent. I love the saturated colors. I love the style. I love it ALL.

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

So sumptuous! Love the boots. Did a double-take over the necklace that gives the model a pelvic fountain of fringe.

  • Alyssa

I love the sunglasses…I’m always looking for another pair of cat-eye sunglasses!

  • Ashleigh

The guy in photo 1 is DREAMY! Nice clothes too ;)

  • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

So much love for this. And the boots an those cute blue shoes….divine.

  • Sara__B

Color! Pattern! Separates! I love this collection, and there are lots of pieces I not only love but could and would actually wear.

  • @Biting Panda

I am never gonna be this cool. But I can, and will, always dream to be.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

Finally a collection I love. I especially like the silver sparkly… tights? Leggings?

  • Tanya Wade

I love Anna May Wong, and I adore this collection, esp. black and white sweater, image no. 5. I would kill for that.

    • Gatto Nero

      YES.

  • MilaXX

So nice to see a colorful collection. This just feels happy!

  • Gatto Nero

I love the romance and passion here, which are missing from so many other collections.

  • filmcricket

There’s a lot of prints and shapes that I’m not wild about, but the colours are wonderful and the shoes are TO DIE. Does she do her own or commission them, does anyone know?

  • nycfan

Must have purple boots … love this collection

  • Dagney

I must have all the shoes. And the clothes. Chloe, Zosia, Cate, Lucy, and Tilda may borrow if they ask nicely.

  • AC Simons

The fabrics are lush and beautiful. Lots of nice flowing looks. The boots, though probably goofy on their own, look really good with this styling. I love all of this.

  • kim bunchalastnames

so rich and lush and gorgeous. it’s a creative director’s dream wardrobe.

  • Daisy Walker

J’adore the color palette! This collection is full of win.

  • Tatiana Luján

I love this and want it all in my closet.

  • E. D.

Her stuff has never been my style, but I do like the long cream patterned dress on Karen Elson.

  • DeTrop

I don’t know if I’m finally growing UP (instead of OUT) but I’ve come to really love Anna Sui’s designs. I’ve followed her for many years and didn’t get her. The last few years have changed my mind. This collection is a wow in my book.

  • rebeemoon

I LOVE these clothes! Could have done without the exposed belly button on the pasty-white man belly, but maybe that’s just me.

  • demidaemon

Love it all! especially the vibrant and varied color palette. I also love that first male model. HUMINA!

  • formerlyAnon

LOVE the rich color and the fabrics. And whomever chose the male models also had a good eye.

    • demidaemon

      INDEED. Yum.

  • Heather

Those boots are amazing. I had to look through the collection twice because the first time through I was just drooling over the footwear.

    • somebody blonde

I did the same thing! The clothes are nice, but the SHOES are absolutely covetable. I want a pair of each.

  • LipstickForPigs

ZOMG I MUST HAVE THOSE TALL GREEN BOOTS

  • SewingSiren

Love her. And the 1930′s filtered through the 1970′s lens.

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

the word that comes to mind is orientalia. because any word that ends with alia is a bit titillating, no? taking dragon lady to a whole new level. i adore most of these, my favorites are #6,7,& 8. because, of course, green is my color. i also drooled over the pale pink lounging pajamas near the end. and THE BOOTS THE BOOTS MUST HAVE…ALL OF THEM!! i don’t care if i can’t walk in them.

  • livesarah

Well, Anna Sui is never boring, even when I don’t particularly like her collections. But there is stuff in there I would actually wear! If I was rich! Beautiful.

  • SouthernGirlRena

Love Love Love! Purple and girly fabrics and crazy pants. Love.

  • understateddiva

This is all very downtown, in a good way.

  • travelingcat

Gorgeous, my favorite of all the collections featured so far.

  • Raymond Dnomyar

    LOVE.

  • quiltrx

She had me at Anna Mae Wong! Love the SO-rich colors, and these prints are gorgeous. That hot pink/purple/black print 5th from the bottom wants to come live at my house.
I suddenly want to go pet my kimono fabric collection…

  • TerryMarie

Some of these pieces would look surprisingly good on plus-sized women as well as on these skinny models, which gives me (the very plus-sized me) some bit of hope that maybe something stylish will come along for me to wear one of these days. That blue outfit that’s nine down, for instance, if it were properly proportioned.

  • The Counselor

All the boots. I die of lust. And I’m not even really that kind of girl. At least I thought I wasn’t…

  • kat

soooooo eeexxxxtra fabulous. i LOVE every piece**&Anna Sui** except the saggie boob dress (#3 of 24) and the tassley neckpiece that hits like vag hair (2nd from the last of the big pics) is EXTRA ill “fitting” and the wrong shade for that look. if i were blowing that much on my fall ’14 closet, maybe i’d just shorten a bit!! thx TLO…

  • SugarSnap108

I gasped more than once. This is awesome. Even the pieces I should by all rights hate (baggy leather pants, for example) look fabulous.

  • carolie_king

Amazing. Everyone around me has to dress like this so I can gaze at it all while wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

  • prisma

Wow-WEE. Mama like. If someone were to give me any piece of this I would be thrilled. Of all the collections we’ve seen this past week, this is the one I’d pick if I won the “Win every piece in a fashion week collection of your choice–no mixing and matching between collections!” raffle. Because I’m sure they do raffles at fashion week, right?

  • irielle

I don’t usually covet anything off the runway, even when I really admire it, but I absolutely love that haunted castle sweater.

  • ankali

Abso-fucking-lutely STUNNING, I love this! Like, goth Downton Abbey!

  • LaSylphide

I don’t even know where to start separating the ones I totally love (most of them) from the ones I only kind of love (the rest). Some of those fabrics are simply incredible. I’d even wear the men’s clothes, especially their jackets. Favorite collection this season. (Note to Peter Pilotto: THIS is how you mix patterns!)

  • icm

lots of beauty in the womens wear, and the snippets of menswear has Johnny Weir written all over it.

  • Aidan B

FABULOUS. Playful and fun, but still glamorous as hell. Minus the crotch tassles.

    • Shawn EH

With his best friend Florence + the Machine hanging on his arm!

  • icm

beautiful and lush. I could see Johnny Weir rocking some of these looks

  • DuBey2

    Love, LOve, LOVE!

  • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

Possibly my favorite runway of the season–love the styling, love the shapes and patterns. Praise Jesus, maybe the current drought of cute clothes will end this year.

  • Laura Renee

(No link this time — sorry, guys.) I love how different this is from so much we see on the runway — no fear of a wild array of prints! No overload of sheer! And I LOVE how she got the ’20s right in the sense that all these clothes are loose and flowy, not tight and form-fitting like the recent movie.
