Anna Kendrick in Christian Dior at “The Last Five Years” Screening

Posted on February 26, 2014

This is cute and chic. We think we like her better in simpler styles like this, rather than the funkier stuff she tends toward some of the time.

We don’t like the color scheme at all, though. Not for her. But the shapes, details and overall style really suit her. That purse is really cute. The shoes don’t really fit the shape of her foot at all. We think that’s the one thing this outfit needs (aside from the change in colors); a modern and interesting shoe to finish it off. These don’t do anything for her.

Her head looks pretty. She just needs to go out and get this dress in a green or something. She could even keep the pink purse. Just stay away from yellows, girl.

Question…Did they run out of couture or even designer fabrics in Europe? OVER all this lousy fabric from DIOR!

      • Evan

You don’t like mosquito netting for couture?

        • bertkeeter

          Only when Galliano did it!

      • SewingSiren

Right. You would think they could do better than 49 cent a yard nylon net.

        • bertkeeter

I just don’t feel RAF is a happy man! With all the resources of a house like DIOR at his disposal…he constantly sends out tourtured looks in the most unsensual fabrics possible!

      • Nicholas

She had to play a tennis match afterwards.

      • SierraDelta

The fabric look like what the mesh bag I launder my delicates in is made of.

      • Clash D

Looks like kitchen sink sponge material.

    • Jen

This in an emerald green would be superb. I kind of love her anyways though, so even in yellow I’m not totally opposed.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

This also looks like a tennis dress. Possibly a Williams sister’s dress rather than one of the old-school players.

      • Evan

It’s too long to be a tennis dress. But it is close to the color of the balls.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

On Venus Williams it’d be a tennis dress!

          • Evan

She and Maria Sharapova can duke it out on who wants to turn this into a miniskirt just by wearing it.

          • barbarienne

And the color would look a lot better on Venus Williams than it does on a redhead.

        • Kent Roby

And, of course, “color of balls” is not the best description for a dress!

      • FrigidDiva

Maybe she was meeting up with Kate Hudson.

    • MilaXX

I don’t like any of these pieces with each other.

      • decormaven

Agreed. The color of that dress reads citric acid yellow, and is no complement for her skin tone. Purse has a 50s vibe, which seems incongruent with the dress style.

    • sagecreek

I don’t like the color at all, but the shape is cute.

    • AnguaVonUberwald

What is with the fabric? Looks like those cheap, disposable dish towels you used to see everywhere. Cute shape, terrible fabric.

      • schadenfreudelicious

        It’s a J-cloth dress!

      • Kent Roby

        She looks Sham Wow!

        • zenobar

Fun fact: Anna Kendrick can hold 21 times her weight in spilled soda.

          • AnguaVonUberwald

            I cannot stop laughing!

          • Kent Roby

Okay, my first real LOL of the day! I’m just glad that I wasn’t ingesting soda while reading your comment!

          • FrigidDiva

I’m picturing someone at the party spilling their drink and Anna diving down onto the floor to clean it up, then ringing herself out.

      • zenobar

Handi-Wipes! Perhaps Dior got a case discount at Costco.

        • theresapatterson

She is the “quicker picker upper”.

    • SewingSiren

      Looks like Easter morning.

    • Anna

I like the idea of it, but I can’t sign off on the mesh. That is literally tracksuit/athletic gear lining. Clutch is pretty cute and shoes are fine but they just look odd with the sporty feel of the dress.

    • Grumpy Girl

The shape of that shoe is just wierd. I think I saw it on some other ladies earlier, but didn’t realize just how much it was a shoe-shape, where the “point” is going towards one side–makes the feet look oddly shaped. Or is it supposed to counteract people standing in the gotta-pee pose?

      • barbarienne

Also, look at where her heel is in them. She looks like a kid clomping around in her mother’s shoes.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Don’t like anything except the purse. BEAUTIFUL. :)

      • kimmeister

        I can’t stop admiring it.

    • VictoriaDiNardo

At first glance I thought she was carrying a version of an old Lord and Taylor shopping bag!

    • Janet B

      I like her bracelet.

    • conniemd

Why’s she wearing a summer dress in 20 degree weather?

      • marlie

At least it appears that these photos were taken indoors. So she’s not wearing a summer dress OUTSIDE in 20-degree weather.

    • kmk05

No no no this netting is terrible. The shape is okay, but that fabric is horrendous.

      • Kent Roby

The poor dear must’ve been nearly naked by the end of the event, because you know that that fabric must’ve snagged on every piece of jewelry that came within 2 yards of her.

        • kmk05

In the close-up you can see equally spaced ‘holes’, as if there was a thread there and it was let out, or it snagged extremely regularly on something already *shudders*. I’m just happy she’s not sporting a necklace. She must have paid a lot of attention to keeping that bag in between her dress and her bangle.

    • Scott Cooper

At the risk of being too personal, I thought this was her Madam Tussaud’s figure. And she’s so young.

    • Kent Roby

If Carrie Bradshaw were a real person, she’d be sobbing over the fall of the House of Dior about now.

    • Alyssa

I like the purse!! I think she would look really good in Calvin Klein or Michael Kors…simple classic designs that she can accessorize!

    • Imasewsure

Meh to the shoes and I’m assuming this color probably looked better in person. Cute dress but a richer color for sure next time

    • marlie

I love her hair and makeup, the purse, and the shoes, but it looks like she borrowed a 6 year old’s Easter dress.

    • gabbilevy

      BRB DYING.

Anna could have showed up wearing Shia LaBeouf’s “Not Sorry” bag and I would have loved all over this because THIS MOVE I NEED IT NOW

    • Lilithcat

It’s a sundress in cheap fabric accompanied by a heavy clutch and shoes. This does not work. At all.

    • BrooklynBomber

      “I’m 5! I’m 5! I’m a big girl now, I’m 5!”

    • ashtangajunkie

Love the clutch and her face and hair look lovely. That’s where the love ends. There is no more to be found here.

    • lunchcoma

The shape of the dress is pretty and I don’t mind the fabric like others do, but that is not her color. This seems like it might work better on a non-pregnant Kerry Washington.

    • Jessica Freeman

I really can’t tell what the fabric on the dress is with the exception of the one close up. I thought it was white with bright yellow trim, but it seems the entire dress is so damn bright it doesn’t photograph well. Definitely no on the black shoes. And clutch. Ok, its all a No.

    • Sally Spannagle

Wrong color. In images it’s hard to tell if this is horrifying pale Easter green or neon. Ugly shoes. I actually prefer her in something a little more edgy or with a print.

      • kimmeister

Take that color, add unflattering photography lighting, and she is looking so washed out that her skin almost looks pale green.

        • Sarah

Yup it’s like an excercise in how to look jaundiced. No good.

    • Emily Smith

I need that purse. Because reasons.

    • Little_Olive

TLo is being too nice IMO. Nothing works here. Who thought that color would suit her skin? who forgot the belt? Who forgot to go pick up the correct shoes and ended up at Target? Even I could do better and with less that half the budget.

    • B_C_J

I hate the asymmetrical hemline & the color is not very complimentary.

    • quiltrx

That clutch is great..but DAFUQ with this dress??? What the hell is it made out of? It looks like some summer version of the “non-woven fabric” that most bring-your-own-grocery-bags are made of.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Wow, is it Summer already??? What happened to Spring???

    • Gatto Nero

I’m all for simplicity. But the color and fabric are awful, and nothing goes with anything else.
      Plus the asymmetric hem (why?).

    • MK03

Is this coming out already? I have to say, I’m not sure this will work as a movie.

    • nannypoo

I like the shape of the dress but that is a hideous color that should not be worn by anyone.

    • DominoEstella

she looks pasty as hell in that dress

    • demidaemon

This color is bad for photographs too, and the fabric is as well. Flashes are not kind to it, as we can see. Good try though, Anna.

    • vesperholly

Dress is great. Purse looks like a gift-with-purchase from Estee Lauder.

    • Belvane

That fabric looks like some sort of kitchen wet wipe.

      • camsteerie

Yes. I have stuff like that lining my kitchen drawers.

    • EJ

Is anyone else as excited for this movie as I am? I ADORE The Last Five Years- it is my favorite musical, and I love me some musicals. It’s so beautifully written and cleverly told, I cannot wait, though I’m sure I will be sad it doesn’t live up to the original recording (Because nothing ever can- never ever. Norbert Leo Butz for life).

    • GillianHolroyd

Head-to-ankle bad. I like the shoes.

    • Susan Velazquez

Thank God she’s not wearing minnie mouse pumps for once

    • KinoEye

The color was probably nicer in person, but still too light. The flashbulbs only wash it out more. As a fellow pale lady, saturated colors are your best friend.

    • Valdri8

It looks like a breath of springtime and therefore utterly ridiculous in NYC last night where glaciers are currently forming

    • MannahattaMamma

Is it wrong of me to want her wearing something that even mildly gestures towards the fact that it’s effing February of the coldest winter NYC has had in DECADES? Pale yellow strapless netting mishegas? Really? Feh.

    • Clash D

Oy, woman. Find a colour that doesn’t wash you out. AND… DIOR AGAIN? What’s with all the bad dresses?

    • Claire

There’s something about this that is very Cathy Hyatt, though (something about the shoes not being right…) Maybe she decided to go in character to the premiere?
