Will Ferrell at the “The Spoils Of Babylon” LA Premiere

Posted on January 08, 2014

Alas, it was too much to hope for, darlings. It was never going to last, was it?

Will Ferrell attends the premiere of “The Spoils Of Babylon” at the DGA Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

Or maybe he wasn’t seeing the returns he’d have liked. Either way, dressing like a grownup seems to have been a phase.

Dammit. We lost another one.

My retinas have been seared by the sheer ugliness of that suit.

    • charlotte

      Oh goody.

    • Paigealicious

Ugh, I’ve been over him since the first Anchorman.

      • marlie

I’ve been over him since forever.

        • Sobaika

Say it isn’t so! Elf is one of my holiday go-tos.

          • marlie

I’ve never found him funny, but I have to admit that Elf is one of his more tolerable (at best) movies. :P

    • Cindy Claussen

      That’s my grandfather’s tie from 1982

      • Rebecca Zmarzly

Or if the pocket square were an actual $100 bill.

        • kimmeister

I’m afraid it wouldn’t have been particularly visible against that backdrop.

          • phenks

            Maybe some cloth-of-gold?

    • Diego!

Sad-ness. His last red carpet appearance had been amazing!

    • Karen Belgrad

I wonder if Robert Downey Jr sees this and wonders how to top it?
      -Monopoly money suit?
      -Money shot money suit?
      -Mad money money suit?
-Money suit with money shoes and money tie?

      • Paigealicious

LMAO @ “money shot money suit”

        • NYCGlamourpuss

I know, that was my favorite visual too!

      • charlotte

        A full Scrooge McDuck costume?

      • kimmeister

        Sneakers with a 6″ platform?

      • TonyGo

        I believe that is cash-mere.

        • TonyGo

He looks like a million bucks…is that Giorgio Armoney or Doughna Karan? I’m done now.

          • Betsy

“Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. I’ll be here all week. Remember to tip your waitresses!”

      • bitchybitchybitchy

RD Jr. will be wearing this, but with Bermuda shorts and orthopedic shoes.

    • Candigirl1968

To be fair, Spoils of Babylon looks like a fairly silly enterprise. This may be appropriate, given the project.

      • ampg

I just looked it up and found out it’s a Funny or Die production, so I’m more willing to give him a pass on this now.

    • Zaftiguana

I can’t help it, it made me smile. Mostly because I think it’s sort of a spoof appearance in the vein of the spoof movie/mini-series/whatever and he seems to be in on the joke, as opposed to RD Jr. who seems to actually think he’s kind of a badass for dressing like Justin Bieber.

      • ConnieBV

I’m with you. I’ll laugh and file it under theme dressing.

        • largishbearishAtlish

he looks older than I ever remember seeing him look in this pic, perhaps some rouge on the face or moisturizer? some color?

      • Katesymae

Totes agree. I’d rather have him blatantly wearing a costume than putting in no effort and looking blah.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

To be fair, this mini-series looks amazing and over the top. This look was called for. They better Barbara Taylor-BradBRING-IT.

    • sienna elm

He looks like a Batman villain…pre-Christian Bale.

    • Emily Smith

The second picture makes it look like it’s a onesie suit. I kind of wish it was.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

The money onesie might have been priceless in a tacky way.

        • Emily Smith

Exactly. Like oh that’s ridiculous, wait, it’s a onesy? That’s awesome.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

It’s not a onesie, but perhaps it should have been. In fact, if it had been a fleece onesy then Ferrell could have done a truly cheesy infomercial for the new line of “Spoils of Babylon” at home wear.

            • Emily Smith

              Tsk. Such a missed opportunity.

    • michael tanner

      Lol what a twat!

    • jw_ny

ugh…I just cant approve tennis shoes with a suit! Plus, his sleeves and pants hem are too long, and his tie is askew. Shades on the RC are just douchey.
      ;)

    • @Biting Panda

“I’m a funny guy! It’s a funny show! Funny, funny, funny.”

      • teensmom99

        exactly.

      • decormaven

He’s working the schtick overtime here for sure.

    • Ashleigh

      this is hysterical

    • Shawn EH

      Love the sneaks!

    • Jaye Tyler

Let’s not be too quick to dismiss him… I’m pretty sure this is actually “event appropriate” as “The Spoils of Babylon” is a spoof of epic rich-family miniseries. This seems to be more of a character piece than his actual style.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I like to think that this suit was made after a mad dash to Jo-Ann Fabric!

    • AzSportsGirl

This is your mind on drugs.

    • Sarah

It’s obnoxious, all right, but I think it is actually a pretty good fit, as money suits go. I mean, the sneakers are making his hems bunch, but the rest of it seems pretty well tailored. In a long-jacketed, Steve Harvey kind of way. So: eensy, tiny props for fit? Maybe?

    • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

I’m sorry, I just have to say it. This would have looked a lot better in Australian money. :) Much prettier, at least.

      • kimmeister

I bet his boxers are papered with Vietnamese Dong.

    • mcbishop

He’s funny. I laughed. My guess: he’s for surprising everyone, and it worked.

    • boweryboy

He’s too old and not funny enough to pull this kind of shit.

    • understateddiva

That tie is even worse than the suit. I have to admit I giggled, though.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

“The Way We Were” was running through my head as I clicked on those other two posts and fondly remembered when he looked handsome and sophisticated.

    • formerlyAnon

Well, at least I know it’s appropriate to laugh. Not like I’d be unintentionally hurting anyone’s feelings.

    • msdamselfly

      I love this–he’s a comedian

    • Danielle

Makes me think of that dress made entirely out of American Express cards.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

But at least that was cool. This is just “Huckster Trying to Get You to Play Carnival Games on The Boardwalk.”

    • CC06

I am not a big fan of Will Ferrell or his brand of comedy, but applying the usual “dressing appropriately for the venue” convention, wouldn’t you say this suit accomplished the job pretty well? It’s a premiere event for a cable television comedic miniseries, so the stakes are not high. He, recognizing his role as a modern clown, actually dresses like one. And for a money-suit, it’s actually pretty well fitted (except for the slightly long sleeves). I could make do with a different tie and pair of sunglasses, though.

    • throwslikeagirl

      He’s just dressing for work.

    • Rand Ortega

HILARIOUS. He’s dressing for the project & the event. “The Spoils Of Babylon” is a spoof mini series of mini series/night time soaps of the ’70′s & 80′s.

      • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I am not a fan and i don’t find him funny at all, but I adore this. Ridiculous is his metier and this look fits the bill perfectly.

        • largishbearishAtlish

perhaps it needs shoulder pads then?

    • ojosazules

Not at all subtle, but pretty funny.
I don’t think he’s lost his sartorial sense permanently. He’s not lost, just silly as hell. Don’t be sad.

    • BayTampaBay

In the picture with sun glasses on he looks like……..THE EARL OF GRANTHAM !!!! LOL! LOL!

    • MilaXX

At least the suit fits. He must have used RDJ’s tailor. Not sure about this series. It’s either gonna be really funny or work my last nerves.

    • Anna_Cecilia

Maybe he wanted people to come up and tell him he’s “so money.” This did make me laugh though.

    • mmebam

I think it’s hilarious. The ridiculous, over-the-top suit with the deadpanned face is great.

    • http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/lastbutnotleast janinedm

But you guys literally wrote the book on this. His job on the red carpet is to attract positive attention to his project. This is neither a lack of effort or a Robert Downey Jr failed attempt to pull off Ewan McGregor styling. I don’t like it, but I approve.

      • demidaemon

        Agreed.

    • WendyD

      “Dolla-Dolla bills ya’ll”
is all I can thing of. I think it’s hilarious considering the project he’s promoting.

    • Jessica Freeman

True he’s look mantastic of late, but this is also the Will I’ve always loved. Welcome back.

    • Cathy S

That’s hilarious. It hurts to look at it but it’s hilarious.

    • teensmom99

Oh, I think he’s just having fun. He’s proved that he can dress beautifully. Now he’s working and wearing a comedy suit. I’m fine with that because he knows it’s a comedy suit.

    • Snailstsichr

I’m not always a fan, but I do admire the fact that he is not afraid to look ridiculous (or even unattractive) for his work – on and off the screen. I like to think he has a healthy ego, but not an obnoxiously swollen one.

    • Patrick Cleary

I always get the impression that Will Ferrell is exhausting in person, like he’s always so “on” that there isn’t enough air in the room for anybody else. This outfit does nothing to dissuade me from that opinion.

      • bellafigura1

I often feel like the only person in the country — perhaps globally — who is creeped out by Will Ferrell. There’s something off about him.

        • MikeW_Vegas

You’re not a lone in that “creepy corner”

        • manina

I always tell my son, who watches everything WF, that I would never want to be in the same room with him, he seems like a guy that has no limits, kind of scary. I can admire some of his work from very, very far away.

      • ShaoLinKitten

Everything I’ve read about him depicts him as a very well-adjust, sweet, nice guy. Don’t believe the hype

        • demidaemon

From what I’ve heard ad seen, it’s the same. When he’s performing, he’s on. When he’s not, he’s just a regular dude.

    • Janet B

Juvenile Will Ferrell, I miss adult Will Ferrell.

    • Adrianna Grężak

I don’t mind this. He thought about it long enough to pair it with a simpler, matching tie. It even has a yellow/cream stripe to match the dollar bills

    • Trickytrisha

Just watched the trailer for this miniseries. All I can say is – Ferrell is dressed appropriately goofy for the event.

    • marlie

      Utterly ridiculous and hideous.

    • Belvane

It’s okay. The world needs clowns as well as (or maybe more than) paragons of elegance.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

For a comedian, you’d think there’d be more wit to his look. This is just too ‘hey, look at me, I’m an asshole’ to be funny or interesting.

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

“The Spoils of Babylon” is hilarious fluff. The suit is perfect!

    • kat89

Haha, I think I still have some of that fabric from a Halloween costume I made my son years ago. He looks ridiculous, but I guess that’s his point?

    • Betsy

      He cray-cray!!

    • quiltrx

Well, the show looks intentionally ultra-ridiculous, so maybe he’s just playing the game.

    • DesertDweller79

Since the show is a ridiculous spoof, I think he’s dressed appropriately.

    • Pennymac

My goofy alcoholic Uncle Warren wore a version of this to my wedding. In 1982. Your shtick is old, Will.

    • ShaoLinKitten

I literally laughed out loud, AND that seems to have been his purpose rather than the accident it was for, say, Kim Kardashian, so I count this as a win.

    • CT14

Even the sunglasses don’t fit properly!

    • paintedfish

well it IS for a spoof show ala Dallas…he did Willis it up for the legitimate pole dancing.

    • jabes

Fellow hockey fans, can’t you see Don Cherry wearing this suit?

    • lillyvonschtupp

Its Will Ferrell, what do you expect? Armani suits and Gucci garters? Lighten up!

    • Therese Bohn

We sell this exact fabric at Jo-Ann fabrics! It’s in the novelty section, often used to make silly stuff! Considering it’s Will Ferrell, and he’s in character here, this is perfect.

    • bluefish

      The tie is genius.

    • MaggieMae

When are these RC men going to realize that dressing like a grown up doesn’t necessarily equate to dressing like a dour banker. It’s possible to add some fun and whimsy without doing this. Am I being humorless?

    • MzzPants

Well, at least we know he CAN. Considering that he strives to be seen in his underwear in many of his films, I’d say this is Image appropriate.

    • demidaemon

You know, despite the hideousness of the suit, I have to give him props for sheer ballsyness. Also: totally on brand for him.

      It is ugly, though.

    • Kikishua

Can’t deny the hideousity, but the buttons should have been silver.
