Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta at the 2014 SAG Awards

Posted on January 20, 2014

Everything about this is adorable:

Tina Fey and her daughter Alice attend the 2014 Screen Actors Guild Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. Tina is in an Oscar de la Renta dress accessorized with a Roger Vivier clutch.

Love the way her daughter is holding her clutch out toward the cameras. She’s better at the red carpet than her mother is.

We think Tina looks pretty striking, but we also think she looks pretty much exactly like Julia Louis-Dreyfus. We’re not crazy about that hairstyle for her. We also wouldn’t have chosen the ring or the clutch, but the look overall works for her. We’re just nitpicking, as we tend to do.

OMGOMGOMG TINA FEY AND HER DAUGHTER OMGOMGOMG

    • @Biting Panda

Her daughter is the cutest thing ever. Did anyone see the Suri’s Burn Book post? Cute.
Tina’s schoolmarm hair hurts my feelings.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I was going with Marmee March for the hair. Not good.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

… and on second viewing, Holly Hunter in The Piano.

          • makeityourself

            Ma Ingalls.

          • Tlazolteotl

Her hair does look more like Holly Hunter, but oh, so much love for Marmee, so I’ll hold on to that one.

      • norseofcourse

Is Tina doing Victoria Grayson impersonations now?

    • Mary229

Her daughter’s little ballerina bun! I die of cuteness!

      • ailujailuj

confession: I saw some reference to “sock bun” on the inter web (have no idea what it was about) and hadn’t heard that terminology before so I looked into it like any fashionista would… and sock bun tutorials have taken over youtube. I don’t believe hers is a sock bun but probably in the family. adorable.

    • sugarkane105

Tina’s hair is horribly unflattering. I feel like they should have gone for matching buns.

      • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

YES!!!! How camera-worthy would that have been?

    • Jaeda Laurez

The hair is so…American Gothic- why? Other than that (and the cheap looking ring), I like it. Her daughter is adorable, full stop.

      • kimmeister

The ring looks like it came from a Cracker Jacks box.

        • Adriana_Paula

That explains why I love it, and also why I want to eat it.

    • Janet B

      Sweet.

    • colleenjanel

As I was scrolling through the photos, I was thinking “that hair is way too Julia Louis-Dreyfus for me.

It’s so gratifying to discover that I’m starting to think like the Uncles.

    • ailujailuj

      that is so much fun…
I really like that gown – it’s biasing and seaming is barely visible so I’m making some of it up in my head but looks gorgeous on her from that camera angle. Agree with the julia hair and miss tina’s makeup (with the hair) does look rather severe for her. and that cap sleeve is not the best for her. but just love them two to death in these photos… she is the luckiest pretwixteen in the universe. but they’ve done it to that poor girl – introducing her to the red carpet fanfare at such a young age. she’s ruined for life!

    • Melanie_Bee

I love EVERYTHING about this. That dress looks great on Tina – it really flatters her figure, and also has some nice, but simple, details. Maybe the hairstyle isn’t the best, but I think its simplicity puts a little more focus on the dress, and gives her a little bit of a vamp-ish look overall. And, oh my goodness, adorable little Alice looks like perfection, she almost deserves her own entry. She looks so adorably elegant, and perfectly age-appropriate at the same time. Her little dress has it all (lovely lace, a bow at the waist, and a lovely pleated skirt), and her clutch is gorgeous. And I love that they match. I look forward to Alice owning the red carpet a few years from now!

    • Nicholas

The daughter’s skirt is the most adorable thing in the world, and Taylor Swift just had an aneurysm at the thought of someone on the red carpet being more twee than her.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Tiny Tina (Alice) is the most amazing, gifted girl for her epic eye roll on 30 Rock alone. I wonder if Tina has snuck Julia’s stylist away from her…

    • Jacob Bowen

Miss Tina did you HAVE to go with the sheer trend too?????

    • KinoEye

SO cute. And it’s funny you should make the JLD comparison, TLo — she played a fantasy version of Liz Lemon on 30 Rock! They do look rather alike sometimes.

    • EEKstl

Tina’s dress is lovely but the Jane Eyre hair was a terrible mistake.

      • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

As a fan of Jane Eyre and its many adaptations, I must say that the hair here makes me more inclined to like this look. :)

    • msdamselfly

TIna looks very pretty. I like her hair that way. IT frames her face beautifully

    • kt

Daughter as date is terribly cute. Tina looks like someone’s Noni. That is Italian aunt church hair, and scandalous church dress

    • Shawn EH

It’s a little Wednesday Addams (Tina, not her daughter), but it suits her fabulous figure.

    • siriuslover

The ring looks like something her daughter asked her to wear. And her daughter is totally adorable!

      • mlurve

This was my prediction too! I have a funny feeling the daughter picked out the ring and Tina went with it.

    • filmcricket

Hmm. I see Tina’s dress has more visual interest to it than was apparent on my TV screen, so that’s something. On the other hand, I’m not wild about the fit – it’s pulling in several places. And yeah, the hair’s not good. Little Alice is adorable.

    • Carla_Charlton

She DOES look just like Julia Louis-Dreyfus. However, that dress is really flattering on her so I’m not complaining -just stating a fact.

    • AmeliaEve

      My First Minaudiere

      • decormaven

And that ain’t no dimestore minaudiere either. Baby’s got the good stuff!

    • marlie

This is not my favorite of Tina’s looks, but it’s not bad. And her daughter is the best accessory ever!

    • teensmom99

I think Tina’s hair has a Madonna and Child kind of look–appropriate for a date with her daughter, even if not her best look.

    • Diego!

Her dress is gorgeous and from neck down she looks amazing. I HATE the amish hair. I hate it. It must go. I can’t approve this look due to hair and poor make up. Sorry girl, sometimes the details, make things better or worse.

    • TAGinMO

Goes a little too Morticia below the knee, but this is a good effort.

And it speaks volumes how far she’s come in the past couple of years that we’re now nitpicking this look instead of falling all over ourselves because she’s not wearing a HAZMAT jumpsuit on the red carpet.

    • withbreaththatisbaited

I would like this dress much better without the decolletage…collar (?? that can’t be the proper fashion term for it, but I’m a chemist, what the hell do I know?). The hair is blah and especially disappointing after her hair at the Globes.

Alice is awesome and looks adorable!

    • colorjunky

The hairstyle is a bit like the Mother in PSYCHO, no?

    • MissMariRose

Hate the hair. Love the dress. ADORE the date.

    • Melanie_Bee

All the different reactions to her hair and what it reminds people of make me laugh, because I can totally see where people are coming from. And yet, when I first saw her hair, I thought it had kind of a nice flamenco vibe.

      • Gatto Nero

        My exact first impression!

    • CT14

      Exactly!

She looks like Julia Louis-Dreyfus! I think it’s the hair. Maybe JLD should patent it.

    • Kelly

That child is darling. I love the name Alice (it’s what I would have named a daughter had I taken that motherhood plunge). But does this mean her name is Alice Fey?

      • Melanie_Bee

Nope, her name is Alice Richmond (she has her dad’s last name).

        • ailujailuj

hmm… I’m urged to have a conversation about that.

        • Kelly

Ah, too bad. I think it would have been fun to have a little Alice Faye! I feel like rewatching “In Old Chicago” now.

    • MilaXX

It’s a bit Mottica Adsms but she looks good. Her mini me is adorable

    • Sabin

I gasped at photo #2, and had to go check the others. An errant sequin on older lady in the background makes little Alice look ke she has a huge nose ring. Like the kind they used to put on bulls in Loony Tunes.

    • SuzBald

I especially love Tina’s earrings and Alice’s mani!

    • OldPandaDayz

Not loving the tight pulled back hair with the black dress on Tina; it feels very Jane Eyre. But it’s hard to be critical when she’s got the cute kid with her- love the dress!

    • gefeylich

Just when I think I cannot love this woman more, I DO. Of course JLD is her role model; Fey has admitted it on various occasions, and I think one fabulous woman aping another fabulous woman is totally fine. And Alice just kills me. I think she looks more like her dad than Tina, but she certainly has her mother’s “self-possessed but fun” aspect: “Am I not totally WORKING this skirt, eyeball clutch and hair-do? Kiernan Shipka can EAT MY DUST.”

Can’t wait until she grows up.

    • A Shiny O’Connor

      TAXI CREASES!

    • bellafigura1

I love two things: Tina’s ring and the oversized feet on her daughter — she hasn’t grown into them yet. I remember my own girls’ too-big feet at that age.
      Adorbs.

    • SouthernGirlRena

Alice is adorable and deserves a baby WERQ. I can’t really see Tina’s dress. Maybe it is my monitor and the fact that my desk is next to a window but all I see is a black hole where her body is supposed to be. She does look like proud mommy so I can’t complain.

    • acevedob

Absolutely beautiful. Way to go Momma Fey.

    • Katesymae

Something about the hair-makeup-dress combo is looking a little severe and Morticia Addams. On first glance, it made me wonder if Tina had dyed her hair a shade darker, but I think it’s just the effect from the brow/eye makeup. Not my fave look, but boy, does she look like a proud mama in that second photo.

    • Trickytrisha

Love this dress with a passion. Her too. Plus, the daughter is beyond adorable.

    • webslice33

yes the daughter outshone her mommy…

    • bouionice

The whole thing’s just a little bit “Jane Eyre”, isn’t it?

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Not a lot of people can work the severe center part, but I can hardly see it past all the adorable!

    • AnneElliot

I like it but are all those puckery-looking horizontal ripples supposed to be on the front of Tina’s dress? Is that some kind of ruching? It’s making my eyes twitchy. But her daughter is too adorable.

    • alyce1213

This reminds me of the black velvet and white organza special party dress I had as a kid, and damn if I didn’t wear my hair up in a ballet bun like that.
I think they both look smashing. I’m not gonna chide Tina for pulling her hair back, she was busy helping Alice get dressed.

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

      Squee!

    • AnnaleighBelle

I’m not a huge fan of cap sleeves in general and Tina’s hair is a little Mary Todd Lincoln to me, but her mini-me is so adorable. What a mommy/daughter date!

Little Alice is a red carpet pro already…

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

We’ve found the lost Bronte sister!!

    • boweryboy

Lovely. I want to be Tina Fey’s daughter.

    • CommentsByKatie

Love her love this. Reminds me of Tim Burton or Christina Ricci in a great way.

    • CeeQ

“Mom, lighten up. You’re practically clenching. Follow my lead!”
They are both adorable =D I tease cuz I love.

    • Cathy S

      Her daughter is soooo cute.

    • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

…and with a single sentence, I am now desperate for a movie where Tina Fey and Julia Louis Dreyfus play sisters. Thanks, TLo. :D

    • muserella

It’s like Jane Eyre and her charge went out to meet Mr. Rochester. Nope.
