Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Posted on January 14, 2014

We feel a little bad that it’s taken us so long to get to these two ladies, but goshdarnit, there were just so many motherfucking dresses to talk about that we couldn’t get to them before now.

We’re truly sorry, ladies. Especially because we adore you both and because you both really knocked it out of the park on the style front. We’re not sure if any of these are Personal Bests for Tina, because she’s done quite well on this front for a year or so now, but these are all Personal Bests for Amy, who’s been improving her style by leaps and bounds lately.

Hit it, girls.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler attend the 2014 Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, California. Tina Fey wore Carolina Herrera and Amy Poehler wore Stella McCartney.

We think it says something that the looks we like the least are the ones they wore on the actual red carpet. You could argue that, as performers, they’re just naturally more comfortable thinking of their clothing as costume and stage wear. Their stylists should teach them to think of the red carpet as a stage.

Not that these are bad. We just don’t love the print on Tina and the asymmetrical shoulders and tiny belly cutout on Amy are kind of ugly. Great hair and makeup on both of them.

We think we like these looks so much because they compliment each other so well. The colors look great together and great on each wearer. That might be a bit too much beading on Tina’s dress, though. When did she get all that hair?

Gorgeous. We almost kind of like that side ponytail on Amy – and we hate side ponytails.

Awesome ladies. If I were a billionaire I’d pay them to provide running commentary to my life. As it’s happening.

      • Fanny_Trollope

        I would watch that show.

      • MoreShoes

Do the running commentary yourself and your life will improve automatically. Selfspot and humor is the only way to go :)

      • DebbieLovesShoes

        That would be GREAT!

    • rkdgal

It was so great to see them looking so amazing; they both deserve to be full-on glamazons. No reason that smart, funny, feminists can’t also look muthafucking FIERCE. Kudos, gals.

      • Jaye Tyler

        Preach!

      • ailujailuj

is rkdgal’s vote count the all-time TLo high?

        • rkdgal

[fans self] little ‘ol me?! It can’t possibly be so. (If it is, it better come with a damn tiara.)

          • ailujailuj

            royalties! staff! open bar!

    • CB

The second dress is a revelation on Tina. The beading is just right for a stage look, and DAT BOD DON’T QUIT.

      • butterflysunita

A gorgeous dress, and she looks amazing in it. Love the color.

      • DebbieLovesShoes

. . . and they’re both in their 40′s and have had kids. It inspired me.

      • ThesisMonkey

        seriously. perfection on her!

    • Glam Dixie

These fabulous ladies need to be guest judges on RPDR.

      • demidaemon

That would be beyond awesome. Especially if it were a comedy challenge or Snatch Game.

        • understateddiva

Yes! I think Amy, especially, would be divine for Snatch Game!

      • decormaven

Oooh, genius call! Oh please, make it so!!

      • Darcy H

I’m pretty sure this needs an internet petition STAT.

      • Stella Zawistowski

EVERYONE PLEASE UPVOTE THIS SO IT HAPPENS.

    • IraKi

I cannot pinpoint what exactly it is that I don’t like in Tina’s red carpet outfit. I think it is the silhouette that is most unflattering, not the print. Also, Tina Fey is my role model. There! I said it!

      • charlotte

If you don’t mind sharing her with me and a whole bunch of other people!

    • marlie

Definitely a personal best for Amy. I’m not in love with the Stella from the red carpet, but #1, it’s a Stella that I didn’t hate, and #2, it fit her rather well. I LOVED Tina’s Carilina Herrera from the red carpet. It’s probably my favorite of hers.

      • Qitkat

I love the Herrera too. All three of Tina’s are stunning; while Amy looks wonderful, her dresses aren’t my favorites, but I think it’s more a matter of my personal taste than that there is anything wrong with any of her choices.

      • SugarSnap108

I think it’s the first Stella that I almost like. That’s something.

      • Meg0GayGuys6

That’s funny because right when I saw Amy’s I said to my friend, “That has GOT to be a Stella dress”. Alas…

        • MoHub

I thought the Herrera was also instantly recognizable as such. And I liked it on Tina.

      • demidaemon

I don’t hate Amy’s RC look but I certainly don’t like the full length version. If it didn’t have the belly window, I could probably convince myself to like it.

    • largishbearishAtlish

Q? What is the color of Amy’s second dress? I keep thinking black, but when I scroll up and down I swear I see green (maybe next to the beautiful red- love that on Tina, one of her all time best). I also think whatever the color (if it is NOT dark dark green, she would look amazing in it in dark green) is an all time best. I also think their friendship/chemistry is a factor here- when standing alone and ‘naked’ on a R/C, but here they are in ‘performance mode’ and more relaxed- I think that might be that missing X factor in these pics (i.e. they look better here than being solo on the R/C) Brava ladies! brava!

      • VioletFem

The second dress Amy wore looks like a deep aquamarine to me. And yes I love their friendship/chemistry it works so well when they are performing together.

        • CT14

It looked dark blue-green on screen.

      • filmcricket

On screen it was a lovely dark teal. They essentially reversed their colours from last year, when Amy wore a burgundy-ish dress and Tina wore that SLAMMIN’ sparkly teal number (still my favourite thing she’s ever worn, I drool just thinking about it).

        • uprightcitizen

I actually had to google pics from last year during the first commercial, because I thought they were wearing the same dresses as last year because of the colors. Thought maybe they were going to do a bit about it. Saw they had flipped them. Smart choices because those two jewel tones flatter almost everyone. I think Amy’s final dress is the best of all of them, but maybe that’s because she was wearing it when she made out with Bono.

    • ailujailuj

      thump thump….

    • newleaf1

That green on Amy is pretty but it does give her shelf-boob.

    • Sarah

The burgundy number on Tina: I am in awe. It is so gorgeous.

    • VioletFem

They looked amazing in all of the dresses that they chose for the show. At first glance, I really liked Amy’s Stella McCarney dress, mainly because it fits her so well, but I’m not too crazy about the weirdly placed cut-out. Her second dress (the aquamarine beaded gown) was by far her best look of the evening. Her look as Randy,Tina’s son, was a close second ; )

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Tina’s second dress is probably the prettiest thing I have ever seen her wear. Gorgeous.

      • Pennymac

Her figure in that 2nd dress made me gasp. In a good way. Can I gay-gasp since I’m dyed in the whole hetero?

    • kimmeister

J’adore the bracelet that Amy has on the red carpet. Je n’adore pas her neckline on the second dress, as it reminds me of an Olympic swimsuit. I don’t love Tina’s red carpet hair or the print, but I do like how it’s reversed under those panniers.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I am with you on the hair.

I’d have liked to see Tina and Taylor Swift’s dresses side by side to see how the designs speak to each other.

        • kimmeister

Taylor’s will give Tina’s side-eye and make catty remarks about it to her shoes.

          • CelandineM

I cannot lie, I snorted when I read your comment. Is there a special place in hell reserved for gowns that don’t support each other?

      • Montavilla

When I first glanced at the dress, I thought the flowers were pink flamingoes, and I thought it was genius. I’m disappointed that they are just flowers, but I’m beyond impressed at the way the seams are matched on the bodice, and I love the reversed print in the pleats.

    • Super_Red

I love love love Tina’s red carpet dress, and I would love Amy’s if not for that cutout. I covered it up on my screen and it looks loads better. They both look great in the second set, but both of the dresses in the third are FABULOUS and they both look perfect. I love these ladies. (even if I hate amy poehler a little bit because she plays leslie knope who is married to ben wyatt who is MY PERFECT MAN AND I WANT HIM.) *cough*

      • Denise Alden

I hate Amy a little bit because she sat on Bono’s lap and made out with him. Is it pathetic that I shake with joy when I see that man?

        • formerlyAnon

I don’t know, but I knew that Amy was my entirely theoretical next (also, first) wife was when she seized the opportunity to sit on that lap. I have no kind of a ‘thing’ for the man, but it struck me as living to the fullest. (as long as she DID warn him. Otherwise, it’d be rude. And my imaginary first wife is not like that.)

        • ailujailuj

no. but I also wanna do and be amy. so, I was thoroughly confused by the whole scene.

    • LeelaST

Love the RC looks and the two in the last photo. Dying for Tina’s black and fuchsia print. Dying.

    • M_E_S

I love that the colors of the second dresses they wore were reversed from last year (when Tine wore the turquoise and Amy the burgundy)

      • kimmeister

        What an astute observation!

        • M_E_S

I’d love to take credit for it, but I think I got that from someone who posted about it on Tumblr. Some people have TRULY sharp eyes!

      • filmcricket

Whoops, should have scrolled down further before posting!

    • Maryanne525

I did a full-on gay gasp when Tina came out in that maroon dress. She KILLED. IT. I couldn’t keep my eyes off her.

    • Ragnarockette

I actually love Amy’s red carpet look. I think the modern shape of it is very flattering and sexy on her. I even like the belly cut out!

    • Danielle

MY BABIES ARE ALL GROWN UP AND LOOKING FOINE AS HELL

    • d4divine

They look so confident and happy. Role models for all women.

    • teddy partridge

I’d like your commentary on Amy’s transboi outfit as well, when she upstaged that mussy-haired Bacon girl.

    • Judy_S

I like Amy in the asymmetrical McCartney. On a more divaesque woman it might be dull, but it looks sassy on her.

    • SuzBald

Foxy & funny & female fabulousness!

    • suzq

I LOVE Tina’s red carpet dress. Too much print…who cares? It’s fun!
There was something about Amy’s red carpet dress that I just couldn’t put my finger on…then you identified it as a Stella McCartney. That’s what it was!

      The stage looks were great.

    • CT14

I loved their second looks. Knocked it out of the park!

      • bellafigura1

The only thing I didn’t love was Tina’s hair, it was too “Hollywood,” either wiggy or extended too much. Just seemed like fake glam. But their dresses and faces and sassy asses were divine.

    • Stefanie Mackenziews

They look fantastic. I wish they could cycle with Billy Crystal for the Academy Awards.

      • bellafigura1

Oh please, let’s retire him, he’s too “shticky”. They make him look like a Catskills opening act!

        • Shawn EH

Not that there’s anything wrong with that! I love me some Borscht Belt!

    • Watts

I’m still amazed no one has echoed my thoughts about Amy’s first on-stage outfit – it’s doing terrible things under her bustline.

      • WhiteOprah

        ITA. Her boobs look squashed.

    • MilaXX

I loved every look on these ladies. Some more than others (Amy’s odd cut out being low on the totem pole), but I didn’t hate any of them. They looked good, and were incredibly funny. I think Tina got extra hair once she started doing hair commercials

    • formerlyAnon

My favorite part of the show, except – maybe – for Emma Thompson. Maybe.
Never quite have seen Ms. Poehler as quite the saucy vixen her grin makes her here. (Also, maybe the side pony is almost o.k. because it’s easy to overlook?)

    • Mothra

That greenish dress on Amy–that bodice is not doing her boobs any favors. Certainly on TV it looked like a too tight yoga top. Bleck. but I did really like the last look including little side pony.

    • GeoDiva

      Love their final looks.

    • jilly_d

Tina’s bod is TO DIE in the burgundy. I couldn’t stop staring at her waist and hips while they were on stage. DAMN GRRRRL. Love that athletic cut on the green gown Amy wore. I would never have picked it for her, but she rocked it. My two favorite jokes: George Clooney (of course) and the bit about welcoming Leo like a supermodel’s vagina. CLASSIC.

    • Tarn

Tina looks better with every passing year. It’s almost not fair that she can be that smart, funny AND gorgeous. That dark red beaded dress…get it girl!

And Amy knocked it out of the park more in one night than I think I’ve seen her do in all of her previous appearances. She even rocked the tux! That last dress of hers is my favorite. So simple and elegant.

    • Lorelei_D

Amy in her 2nd dress (the midnight & black) GORGEOUS and perfect.

    • vesperholly

Did you know the second red/green dresses are mirrored colors from what they wore last year? Awesome!

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I especially like their third looks-that color is absolutely gorgeous on Ms. Fey. I’m still chuckling over their George Clooney joke, too.

    • Youbeguilemenot

      Gah. I love them so!

    • guest2visits

If not for the off center ‘hole’ in Amy’s Stella McCartney; all the looks would be winners.
Loved seeing them back for the GGs again.

    • quiltrx

I ADORE Tina’s arrival dress! She looks like she loved it, too.
Both ladies look great in all of these shots. Great job.

    • In_Stitches

I find it funny that a blond and brunette funny lady pairing of women that worked on the same tv show both hosted events in the past few weeks….both with the brunette wearing a fuschia and black floral print and the blond a sleek basic black on the carpet. Seriously, Kat Dennings and whatsherface wore those EXACT dresses at the people’s choice awards.

    • Dan_In_NYC

They both looked amazing. The first thing I thought about Tina’s hair was the the Garnier people wanted to make sure their girl looked impeccable. Her in that first show dress was a true knockout. And good for Amy getting on the style train.

    • CeeQ

Their stage dresses clearly win the day for them. Although I really loved Amy’s red carpet look. Love these broads =D

    • demidaemon

I’m not surprised that Amy’s RC dress was a Stella, now that it has been labeled. It’s just this short of being overdesigned—oh, who am I kidding? It is overdesigned and it’s pretty much a black sheath dress. Way to fuck up one of the simplest dresses ever, Stella.

      • sojourneryouth

I thought it looked good on her, and then I saw the little triangle of skin above the waist. Then, it was literally all I could see, What a stupid, strange, random triangle of unflattering nakedness that is! Stella’s existence as a “designer” gives me dry heaves.

        • demidaemon

Luckily, you are only experiencing the first symptoms of Stellamccartneyitis. If you treat it quickly, by ritually burning one of her designs and her effigy at the same time, you will clear any digestive symptoms but still feel a strong tendency to have a lighter or match at your disposal when viewing her designs.

    • lizajane1776

Apparently we have discovered who Stella McCartney has been designing for all along.

    • e jerry powell

Were those show-opening gowns the same designer? They are part of the same story, it seems.

    • majorbedhead

In that first shot of Tina? That’s how I wear my hair to work every day. C’mon. If I can do that in 10 seconds with a barrette I bought at CVS, you can do better.

    • Diego!

I loved all of them. I didn’t like Tina’s hair in the floral dress, but Amy looked amazing in all dresses. Congratulations to both of them!

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

They look fab in the final photo.

    • Ros

I’m a bit disappointed that those are flowers, not flamingos, on the first dress.

    • carnush

Two gorgeous, hilarious women. I could stop admiring the second set of dresses. Incredibly well suited and flattering on each of them. Really well done. The third change was more generic but still pretty.

    • gigi kennedy

oh i loved everything! they nailed it and both looked gorgeous! well done ladies..well done

    • KinoEye

Absolutely divine. Love to see some of my favorite ladies looking stunning!

    • Shawn EH

The first red carpet look for Amy is my favorite of all; it’s the edgiest, though I agree they looked fab all night. I love the big black leather belt.

    • webslice33

love these ladies..love all the outfits…

    • Lauren

Couldn’t agree more. And who knew Ms. Poehler was rocking such killer arms? Leslie Knope should show them off more often!

    • Tracy_Flick

Three dresses each? Reminds me of Cathie Lee Crosby on That’s Incredible.

    • heartbot

“When did she get all that hair?” Shrinkage, dears. Every person with curly hair understands.
