    Science Fiction Chic.

    • Alyssa_T_Robot

So THATS why i love it so much.

  • Glam Dixie

Some lovely pieces mixed with some what the fuckery, sounds like a couture collection to me.

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Some of it is fab, a lot of is is proportionally, pretty nuts. Love the color palette, though.

    • ailujailuj

especially with the changing stage design- colors – very fluid. love it.

    • ballerinawithagun

My only complaint is with the rectangular sheer panel that comes almost to the crotch, very awkward looking because everything else is curvilinear. I even like the two ultra sheer white pieces because of their whimsical quality. That gold is fabulous!

    • ankali

Those yellows and oranges are mouthwatering. And I normally hate orange.

  • filmcricket

    Space-age breakfast.

  • Claudia Fernandes

    Couture!!!! Without sneakers!!!!!!!!!!

    • Vickiefantastico

      Or fanny packs!

      • Claudia Fernandes

very true! This is fine arts…Yes, i remember…couture used to be fashion fine arts

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I haven’t read the last book, so I don’t know if Katniss gets to wear any Girl On Fire dresses in it, but that orange one would be fab if she does.

    • Anna

Yes, agreed! The rest of it reminds me of the Giambattista Valli collection meets formalwear for Leeloo.

      • TropiCarla

        Leeloo Dallas moolti-pass!

    • Ginny Ellsworth

Yes! That is the exact one I liked. Great minds think alike! :-)

    • kimmeister

An Asian woman who could pull off that tough color (aka not me).

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I did hesitate over that – that peach is really hard for a lot of skin tones to pull off!

    • marlie

That was one of my favorite pieces from my “mostly normal and wearable” category.

  • Diego!

Beautiful. Chic. Amazing. Gorgeous. Stunning collection! Bravo!

  • Introspective

im confused by some, yet i still love it all for the visual feast it provides. imaginative even if overwrought at moments.

  • MilaXX

Some of these are very dramatic and pretty. I’d love to see a lady celeb wear that peach pants suit. Then there are the sheer pieces that make no sense and the random bits of fur/feathers.

    • wisenhar

I’d love to see Meryl Streep in that peach pants suit. It might be too fussy for her, though.

      • MilaXX

I think it’s a bit young for Meryl. Current love of my life Lupita would look awesome in it though.

        • marlie

I think we’ve established that Lupita might look good in just about everything.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

That neckline isn’t great for ladies of a certain age with significant bosoms. Tends to give them pillowboob.

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Is anyone else getting the impression from the spring collections that we’re stuck with sheers for another year?

    • gabbilevy

Resisting the urge to downvote, just because the sentiment makes me mad. Not because you deserve a downvote, @foodycatalicia:disqus.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Haha! I know what you mean! My heart sinks every time I see them all on the catwalk.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I think you’re quite right. Somehow they have all gotten stuck in the mistaken notion that sexy=seeing everything. In fact, (imho) its the reverse that is more true. Sexy, is what is NOT revealed.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

So true. And the sheers seem to be getting more see-through, rather than less.

        • marlie

The sheer has just become a foundation upon which to add bits and pieces to cover up JUST the bits and pieces.

    • Danielle

I JUST WANT TO WEAR A REGULAR BRA WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT IT SHOWING OKAY DESIGNERS

      • schadenfreudelicious

and i am thinking panties might be in order too…

    • ailujailuj

I hear ya… the difference here, IMHO is that they are incorporated into the design and theme so much better.

    • mjude

I think you are right & I am OVER IT

    • DesertDweller79

Unfortunately yes. It is making me sad.

    • manina

The second dress is perfect for Kim Kardashian (sp?).

  • Blair Sylvester

Didn’t the red haired project runway designer/Drew Barrymore impersonator get aufe’d for the white strapless bed sheet with yellow ombre? maybe she just needed to repurpose a chandelier instead of belting it. Some of these are really beautiful and some of them are really not

  • wisenhar

This is a fun collection to play pretend stylist.

  • LipstickForPigs

Third look down needs a Cuchini, otherwise I am loving the colors.

  • oklund

It’s alternating between a cool sci-fi vibe, and a socialite-strolling-about-in-Dubai kind of outfit.

  • Hazelnuts

Some is good, some is raincoat couture.

  • gabbilevy

I especially like the girl in yellow who looks like she brought her own bottle of something to the party.

  • KinoEye

Dear god, keep dresses #7 and #15 away from Paula Patton, or we’ll suffer a repeat of FUNGUS MONSTER. That last gown blows my mind. Gorgeous. Can we put Lupita in it, please? Just for funzies? She’d kill it for sure.

    • filmcricket

I’d like to see Fan BingBing in a couple of them. She has the height to carry off the drama.

      • marlie

I forgot about FBB when I said this collection was for Cate and Lupita… she would be outstanding in some of these clothes.

  • Kayceed

A few pieces remind me of Chado Ralph Rucci, but without the restraint.

  • charlotte

Superhero formalwear for the Avengers prom.

  • Nancer

There are some lovely dresses here, and some very architectural looks. For some reason, several of these made me think of an updated Audrey Hepburn. I actually love these! Sure, some are cray cray, but don’t miss the beautiful lines and lovely curves.

  • PeggyOC

Swinton, the mothership has arrived. Your reinforcements (and new outfits) have landed.

    • Nancer

Ooh, she could wear the heck out of some of these looks! Yes for Swinton!

    • Imasewsure

I was actually going to comment on how much I didn’t like this collection (except for the third piece which is gorgeous) until you mentioned La Tilda and now I can see it all on her. Works for me (but please don’t show any of the frippery pieces to Paula Patton!)

    • marlie

At first I thought about SWINTON, but then I wondered if most of this collection is a little too “feminine” for her. I’m so used to seeing her go the obviously androgynous look for so long that I can’t picture her in pretty dresses (even if they’re weird, architectural pretty dresses).

ETA: After re-looking, I do think that SWINTON would kill it in the pantsuit looks.

  • sagecreek

Someone needs to show Michele Obama this collection, she could really rock some of those.

    Hate the sheers, though.

  • Kathy

Several of these designs are fun in a Zorro kind of way.

  • acevedob

    Gorgeous collection. I’m in love.

  • ojosazules

Sheer stuff looks better on the outside part of the leg. The golds and yellows are so luscious. I wasn’t enjoying the exaggerated shoulders until the last dress, which is fabulous.

  • Isabel

    “Fly me to the moon
and let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
    On Jupiter and Mars”

    Cole Porter – Frank Sinatra

  • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

Really hope someone shows up on the red carpet in the strapless white gown with yellow ombre at the bottom. Zoe Saldana? Lupita?

    • conniemd

I love that dress except for the foofaw white whatever it is at the neck.

  • conniemd

Egads. More easy access skirts, mullets, peplums, cutouts and sheers almost to the good china. It’s a shame to me, because there was much potential for gorgeousness with this collection without going full force into these fads.

  • annachronizm

Eh…We’ve seen better on project runway

  • Qitkat

Call it gold, orange, peach or mango (my personal choice), these are stunning and gorgeous looks, except for the flock of seagulls escaping the good china. Love the strapless white gown dipped in yellow too.

  • Laura Renee

Judging by the comments (and my own opinion), this is one of the better spring 2014 collections we’ve seen so far.

  • Kent Roby

I’m betting that Gaga shops for coffee beans wearing the Origami Nudist look.

  • Frank_821

Overall I love this futuristic/retro 60s concept. However I think some of the execution feels forced

  • kimmeister

The white gown with the open sides and hip feathers is calling JLo’s or Nicole Scherzinger’s names.

  • ellatheingenue

    Intergalactic villainess

  • frannyprof

First, Giambattista Valli (sp?) gives us vagina curtains. Then, this guy gives us camel toe (pic #3) and a huge honking vagina dress (last pic). Designers, is this the Year of the Vagina?

    • demidaemon

I thought every year was the Year of the Vagina.

  • ailujailuj

    absolutely spectacular.

  • phylora

    Love the saffron color.

  • YoungSally

It’s not just a slit — it’s a whole inner thigh picture window — now in HD!

  • VioletFem

Such aGorgeous collection! I want to see Lupita wear #7 (the orange-y dress).

  • StarburstLady

Georgia O’Keefe-style paintings of daffodils turned into clothing.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

    SWOOSH.

  • Erica_Vuitton

So clearly the sheer/cutouts/mullet dress styles have yet to go out… but honestly some of these are very pretty. The tailoring on the orange long sleeve tee is gorgeous but then others are basically really luxurious sheets. But UGH just like Chanel there are a few totally sheer dresses with stuff tacked on for modesty. I reeeeaaaally don’t like those.

  • Sabin

I do kind of like the Miss Brasil evening gown entry to the M. universe pageant at the end.

  • ryenerman

OK obviously these are nuts, but they are also serving late 70s/early 80s space alien awesomeness.

  • decormaven

Like the colors shown very much, especially the butterscotch pants look in #3.

  • LJCdoc

I love those yellows. They’d make me look like a plague victim, which is good since I could never afford even one thing here. Not loving the sheer vagina curtain covers though.

  • ventureforth

I cannot WAIT to see Lupita in some of these.

  • marlie

I like this collection a lot; there are some really beautiful architectural pieces here. Though I can’t see anyone but PhD-level ladystars making any of this work… Limit these garments to Cate, Lupita, and *maybe* Kerry.

  • crash1212

Unabashed LOVE for the shoes. Want them in every damn color. Having said that, any collection that can give me a Carol Burnett version of Scarlett O’Hara’s drapery dress moment in the beginning and an Audrey Hepburn-like moment at the end is at least entertaining.

    • SouthernGirlRena

I thought of the Carol Burnett skit too! Good times.

  • Gatto Nero

Mostly really overdesigned. And the pieced, black bodice (third look from the end) reminds me too much of Dmitry what-his-name from Project Runway a couple of seasons ago.

  • Trickytrisha

Sorry, I find this to be overblown and tawdry. Too many designers are competing to be “different” and end up spewing out virtually identical sleaze.

  • DesertDweller79

My God, it’s actual couture! Thank you!! I was beginning to despair after that sad Dior collection. And Uncle Karl’s brand of crazy didn’t do it for me.

I like the colors here. Some of the shapes are really fun. I guess capes are back in? Still not in love with mullet hems, but at least I see the point here. Some of them look very Star Trek, but if Star Trek actually had decent costumes.

Really don’t like the cutout sheer panel in the front of some of them, though. Apart from hating sheer panels in general, I also hate what it does to the line of the pieces.

  • oohsparkley!

I would swear the inspiration was chicken and eggs.

  • Kelly

I love some of the long gowns, and I’m actually on board with hostess pants (yeah, go ahead and laugh). The rest of it looks like over-designed Star Trek costumes. (And enough with sheer panels already!)

  • rage_on_the_page

Yum, the colors! That yellow. And yes, it feels like a sci-fi movie made in the 70s. J’adore. Now, who could pull off that last dress??

  • somebody blonde

These are all drag queen wear. Fabulous, but probably too much for anyone who isn’t shaped like RuPaul.

  • MzzPants

That last one begs for Mother Ru.

  • quiltrx

A lot of it is pretty, but in a WAY over the top (draggy?) kind of way. Though I do think my life would be complete if I could flounce around in a black, caped pantsuit, telling everyone how cordially they are invited to SUCK IT.

  • understateddiva

    die sheer, die.

  • demidaemon

This is what I want to see in a couture collection. Not saying I love everything (particularly dislike the “It’s Snowing in Eden” and the “Tulle Heart Marks My Special Place” ensembles), but this is leaps and bounds beyond the other couture collections I’ve seen thus far.

  • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

    Futuristic Bond Girl

    And/or

    Supervillian

Love them all. Especially number 4 in the gallery

  • allcapsERINN

    Wow!

  • Joe Schmartin

I see somebody watched a lot of Buck Rogers in the 70s. Wilma Dearing at a space disco, anyone?

  • Truthiness2U

Done before, and overdone here. Not a fan of the vast majority of these looks. I mean I get the theatrical runway show, and that it’s art. But so much of this seems like it could be pretty, and like I want to like it, but I feel so much of the over-the-top and yet kind of dated. Like oh gee, more petals and big things of fabric “constructed” and cut-outs and yay! more more sheers and sometimes over granny panties.

I don’t know. I just didn’t respond well to this, and part of me wanted at parts of the collection. But I came away mostly disappointed. It isn’t pretty enough, interesting, avant enough. It’s trying to be too many of those things, and succeeding at none.

  • kawadjan

Fan Bing Bing is all over the runway.

  • ankali

Wow. I don’t care for the gyno-sheers, but pretty much everything else is either totally interesting, super gorgeous, or both.

  • BookManFilm

every good idea from project runway ever. in one show.

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

A lot of the collection is beautiful and dramatic, but pretty much only Tilda and possible Cate or Lupita and pull these off in real life

  • elemspbee

Fantastic! I’m especially drawn to pieces that are other worldly/extra-terrestrial.

  • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Oh, this is fun. I’d love to see Claire Danes in the third look, as long as it’s tailored to perfection. Some really fun possibilities for more adventurous or cerebral starlets to play with futuristic fashion. Rooney Mara could rock several of these, and I could see Saoirse Ronan in the top from the sixth look and a great pair of pants.

  • H2olovngrl

I love this. If I were a celebrity, this is who I would be clamoring to wear.

  • littlemac8

Ha Ha Ha, I enjoy seeing the backs of some numbers as the runway models walk away, but I notice we didn’t get any of those sheer dresses from the rear. DAMN!

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/divine_aphasia/ Constant Cat

Dramatic, beautiful, weird. Starts off reminding me of lady bullfighters, goes all Sci-Fi, and then enters Phoenix/living flame territory. Amazing!

  • lesmaha

Love!! the color, the risks, the shapes. Love!

  • https://plus.google.com/+FrankLithiumz/posts Frank Lithium

Love (almost) the entire set. Gorgeous!
