Sarah Hyland in Emilio Pucci at the 2014 Grammy Awards

Posted on January 28, 2014

Please allow this look to be your amuse-bouche after the string of horrid Grammys-related outfits we’ve shown you today.

Sarah Hyland attends the 2014 Grammy Awards at The Staples Center in Los Angeles, California in an Emilio Pucci dress paired with Casadei shoes, an Edie Parker clutch, and Neil Lane jewels.

Emilio Pucci Pre-Fall 2013 Collection

We probably wouldn’t have featured it otherwise. That’s not a slam against it. It’s tasteful and chic, but not otherwise discussable. It’s a little shapeless and we don’t love the bows, but we do love the sequined hem and the fierce shoes.  But really, she’s just getting the attention because there was so much fug going on around her. Sometimes being well put together is just what the scene needs.

Putting on her Snow White for paps, great look for her. And she’s toned down the brows!

      • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

Yeah, I’m really happy she got her brows fixed.

      • colleenjanel

Not just toned down the brows, but also balanced her makeup to complement them.

    • Sobaika

Very cute. I’m not loving the shoes with this dress or her heavy makeup job, but she looks very well put together.

      • Tatiana Luján

her makeup is usually so heavy, I find this almost refreshing.

        • BrianaJC

I totally agree – usually she either goes drag or no make up at all, so I’m liking the in between here

          • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

Yeah, on a relative scale, this is almost light makeup for her.

    • Sarah

I like it better on her than on the model, actually. I think in scale, it is suited to her body in a really nice way. And her makeup and accessories are perfect, as well as her shoes.

    • http://thejoyfulfox.blogspot.com/ Laura

It’s not setting me on fire, but after the tacky train wreck that is Paula Patton, this is downright award-worthy.

      • decormaven

Thank the heavens for this. That last look was an assault on the senses.

      • CelandineM

We all needed a palate cleanser after Paula Patton.

    • Tatiana Luján

She looks clean and polished and her eyebrows are perfect.

    • @Biting Panda

Lovely!! Thank you for this. I was being to wonder if the world was nothing but tacky delusional fame whores. And Jena Malone.

      • demidaemon

        What is Jena Malone, then?

        • @Biting Panda

          Special.

          • demidaemon

I don’t think anyone else could have said it better.

            Special. Indeed.

    • MissusBee

Classy. Interesting that she’s wearing it longer and looser than the model (yes she is tiny but I’m sure they could alter it if necessary), which makes it vintagey and flapper-like. Almost like a call-out to the gramophone logo, which it complements in a cute, oblique way (Katy Perry, take note).

The shoes on the model are to die, but Sarah wins on the hair.

    • AzSportsGirl

I’m assuming it’s the flash that’s making that center seam so visible? Because as it is it’s distracting and making me think she was slurping a banana smoothie on the way over and dribbled a perfect line down the front of the dress!!!

    • hughman

Next month’s version at H&M will probably be as unnoteworthy.

    • marlie

She looks cute and age-appropriate. And I like the red lip. No complaints here.

      • ailujailuj

Is that my problem? I just don’t get her. Maybe I’m projecting to mature a look onto her and that’s why many of her outfits seem odd to me. So yes, this is age-appropriate I guess. Sorry Sarah… SSS and BFF, TTYL an-stuff.

        • marlie

This is way, way more age appropriate than what she usually wears, so I think it’s pretty good.

    • Bexxx

The simple silhouette and black-and-white color scheme work wonders for her and she should be working looks like this more often, simply because once things get too overcomplicated, be it in color or construction, she immediately begins to look twee because of that doll-like face of hers. She looks pretty gorgeous here and appropriate for a 23 year old. My criticism is that, I just did a google image search of her, and she somehow looks considerably older (as in, a 20-something, rather than a tween as she usually skews) in less makeup. She should consider a cleaner face because it adds years to her look, which is kind of an odd thing to say considering it usually goes the other way.

    • Erica_Vuitton

In every other set of pics I’ve seen this looks like a wrinkled mess but here it looks chic and polished. I guess she’s trying to put out a Pop album but her attendance at the Grammy’s was a little odd. The make up makes her look like Selena Gomez though.

    • JP

She looks too classy for the Grammys!

    • conniemd

She looks twee and younger because she has the cute rounded cheeks instead of cheekbones that would cut you like a razor. I’m guessing she won’t grow out of the puffed cheeks, so she needs to use her make-up in a way that elongates her face.

    • muzan-e

It’s absolutely due to Hannibal that I know what an amuse-bouche is. (she qualifies!)

    • alyce1213

      Sweet. Girl, that’s your dress.

    • msdamselfly

      she looks lovely

    • Imasewsure

So awkward on the model (for once) and cute enough on SH. Much needed palette cleanser… thank you Dear Uncles!!

    • Garcia Loca

Did she buy it at Justice?

    • Veronika Pashkina

That huge expanse of white is just begging for something to be spilled on it. Unrelated: I love the shoes the model is wearing.

    • filmcricket

This may be the best look she’s ever sported. Not perfect, but pretty damn good. I’m trying to think of whose style she should look to for inspiration – young Reese Witherspoon? Younger Christina Ricci? They are both wee women who can rock the hell out of a cocktail dress.

    • Emily Giovanni

Has she played a Disney princess yet? That face.

    • http://writeslikeagirlblog.com/ nicole @ writes like a girl

i almost never like what she wears, but i loved this. perfectly chic. the best part, though, is her head. she had, by far, the best hair and makeup of the night. she was the only one with any color, and she got her hair out of her face in a really pleasant way. snaps, little sarah.

    • IraKi

I really dislike the porportions. It is as if she has a really large torso and her boobs sit too high. Also, no waist. But the FACE OMG J ADORE! And the shoes….I covet them as if they were Michael Fassbender

    • Coolekat

An amuse-bouche [aˌmyzˈbuʃ] (plural amuse-bouches) or amuse-gueule [aˌmyzˈɡœl] is a single, bite-sized hors d’œuvre.[1] Amuse-bouches are different from appetizers in that they are not ordered from a menu by patrons, but, when served, are done so free and according to the chef’s selection alone. These, often accompanied by a complementing wine, are served both to prepare the guest for the meal and to offer a glimpse into the chef’s approach to the art of cuisine.

Thanks! Don’t mind if I do!
Sounds like a fairly swank place has these little offerings.

    • teensmom99

This is just the sophistication she needed.

    • Leah Elzinga

that’s the best (see: most adult) I’ve ever seen her hair and makeup. Lovely.

      • Eric Stott

I don’t love the hair – don’t hate it, but she’s got such a slender neck that maybe she needs a longer hairstyle to make her head look more firmly plated. Please don’t hate me guys- She’s great but still a touch awkward.

    • LeelaST

      Adorable & sophisticated.

    • schadenfreudelicious

Thank goodness she appears to have listened to us and fired her previous makeup artist!

      • guest2visits

HUGE difference. So much prettier with the paint dialed back a few notches.
Very nice little dress for her – though I like the model’s shoe’s better.

    • nannypoo

She’s really cute. She’s 23 and she looks like she’s 14, but I think this is a good look for her.

      • demidaemon

I think she’s one of those people who is always going to look significantly younger than she is, which, for her industry, is a great boon, but she does need to be careful about her looks and styling. She’s certainly not in Ariana Grande territory here, in that she looks like she’s approaching twenty rather than twelve.

    • cocohall

I think this is a personal best for her. It doesn’t really seem like a Grammy look, but she looks clean and fresh and sophisticated.

    • janierainie

I saw this on some best/worst list and they had her as a “D”!? I though it was really cute. Nothing earth shattering, but she looks great!

    • sagecreek

I tend to gloss over her as one of a crowd of young starlets I don’t really care about, but she looks GREAT here. Clean, cute, pretty!

    • bellafigura1

Huh, love the styling, the make-up, the hair and the dress. It’s all desperate for a heavier shoe.

    • KT

I have reservations about the dress, but I will say that this may be the most stylish and sophisticated she’s ever looked. And while her hair is a mess, her makeup is actually quite good. I suspect the gays have finally entered her life.

    • Sif

Please shave your forearm before hitting the red carpet. I fucking beg you

      • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

I know people do that, but I’ve always found it ridiculous. Maybe because I’m a hairy latin woman who refuses to have stubble on her forearms. Ah well. I’m also not one of the people who judges whether someone got a mani/pedi, so maybe I’m just not that nitpicky. I’d rather dissect the clothes.

      • LadyLuck777

I’m not sure why. I know lots of girls who have darker hair on their forearms. It’s not like it’s unruly.

      • MaggieMae

Up vote for natural arm! I think it’s cute!

    • Aidan B

A breath of fresh air, especially considering the previous post. Lovely.

    • MilaXX

I think she deserves an atta girl for this. It’s youthful and pretty. For a change she looks her age and her makeup doesn’t make her look like a kewpie doll.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

Looks like she went in for a brow shaping too recently, because hers look perfect (and I think I called her Frida a couple awards shows ago, so maybe she heard it). Great face.
If i were her stylist, though, I might have seen if I could have gone down a size with her, and if so (and if sizing down better replicated the tunic-length the model is showing), I’d have added a pair of skinny black pants. She’s cute as is, but I think tunic+pants in this vein might have been an edgier, better fit for the Grammys.

      • Gatto Nero

I have brow envy right now.

    • AnneElliot

Very cute — seems appropriate for the occasion, and her makeup and hair are really nice. LOVE the shoes. Well done!

    • http://missbethg.wordpress.com Beth Ann

She’s wearing the dress better than the model. It fits her petite frame better. She gives the dress an updated flapper feel.

      • Shawn EH

Yes, that’s it, that drop waist! Imagine Lady Edith or Lady Mary trying this on! Or Rose, I suppose.

    • kimmeister

Loving everything but the shoes. They’re looking 90′s to me, they also have a “my first pair of real heels” vibe.

    • Gatto Nero

Cute and sharp. Fit could be better, and it could use a more substantial shoe. But good job.

    • Jeannie Shmina Greenwald

I thought her whole look was great.

    • CelandineM

She’s adorable and wears it so much better than the model.

    • Qitkat

This dress had possibilities, but the giant white apron is baffling.

    • Sweetvegan

It looks better on her than it does on the model! It looks too short on the model. But on both of them, it looks like the shoulder straps are in danger of slipping off.

    • Diego!

Those sandals are bringing this stiff dress to another level. They are FIERCE. She looks cute. The fitting is horrible

    • crash1212

I am a sucker for a good black and white look. This is a great one. The pop of color at the lip is perfection. I think this is a personal best for her.

    • quiltrx

Cute, rather French-looking…I like! I almost never like what she wears or how her face/hair are done…but the makeup is looking better. Someone picked a great shoe for this, too.

    • melanie0866

Cute dress on a cute girl! Thanks.

    • CT14

      She’s not orange.

      That’s an in from me.

    • Lilyana_F

This is lovely. I still feel that’s too much make-up for her face, though.

    • samo_samo

      Super adorable! Very nicely done.
