Oprah in Badgley Mischka at the 2014 SAG Awards

Posted on January 20, 2014

Give it up for Miss Oprah. The lady’s been KILLING it lately on the red carpet.

“The Butler” star Oprah attends the 2014 Screen Actors Guild Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California in a Badgley Mischka dress accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

You expect bold from Oprah. You expect “larger than life.” You expect a totally Oprah-specific combination of drag queen and earth mother. This delivers on all fronts. The color is perfect. The exuberant neckline and gigantic brooch work for her body, personality, and style. Her foundation garments are doing right by her – big time. And the giant head of hair looks gorgeous and provides a kind of visual balance to all the curves and enormous pieces of jewelry and – we’ll say it – boobage. We’re not crazy about the matching eye shadow. We know it’s the trend, but she could’ve used some tiny bit of a contrasting color.

YES. on all fronts. Diana Ross eat your heart out. just love it and she looks like she’s having fun at this party. and I love it when she looks like she’s having conversations with people out there. wtf girl – who you talking to??

      • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

I wish she’d gotten more love for The Butler. She was the best thing in that movie.

She should never stop wearing this purple.

        • Mary229

This color is spectacular on her and I agree that she was the best thing in that movie!

        • Rebecca Zmarzly

          The Color Purple?

          Sorry…couldn’t resist.

      • CelandineM

Oprah killing it again. This dress is gorgeous and yeah, love that she looks relaxed and is having fun.

    • Blair Sylvester

      OF COURSE!!!

    • Michelle Wilson

I’m absolutely flummoxed by the engineering miracle that is levitating her breasts with nary a strap or cup line to be seen.

      • mmebam

I know!!! I’m almost willing to shell out the hundreds for whatever it is.

        • TAGinMO

          Tee hee…”hundreds.” That’s cute.

          • mmebam

            Fair enough…

        • Mary229

I think people devalue the importance of really good shape wear. I see it all the time even in my own life. Friends are willing to shell out money for an expensive dress or outfit but they don’t think about what to wear under it! It makes a huge difference!

          • MilaXX

See also Lena Dunham in that silver glitter dress. Imagine what a good bra would have done for that look.

            • Mary229

I think it happens a ton with tights. Even if you are thin for god sakes but some tights with a little control top. It just looks so much better.

        • brown-eyed girl

I was just thinking the same thing.

        • Cheryl Smith

She raves about Spanx. Can’t figure out how any woman can get into one of their products. I would need a team of four to get one on past my hips!

          • mmebam

I had some, but I think I got a size too big. There was a little compression, but not enough for the hype.

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

You need to approach them patiently and in a very large room. Trying to get them on in a hurry or in a confined space could lead to an aneurysm.

            • formerlyAnon

              AMEN.

      • melisaurus

This is what a strapless bra that fit looks like! Probably with a pair of long line spanks to top it off.

        • Mary229

You think that’s a strapless? I wonder if it’s actually a bodysuit of some kind that has a bra built in…..

          • MilaXX

It could be a demi cup with specially placed straps.

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

            Possibly a merry widow.

            • formerlyAnon

I would bet it’s custom fitted and made, whatever it is. That’s not just spanx.

        • formerlyAnon

I’m thinking a real corset, custom fitted.

      • Karen Belgrad

        Wingardium Leviosa ?

        • Anna

          Hahaha, that is AWESOME.

      • http://thejoyfulfox.blogspot.com/ Laura

At the SAG awards, no less!

        …I’ll see myself out.

        • Karen Belgrad

Only after you try the veal and promise to be here all week!!!
          ;)

        • Noah

This made me laugh out loud. Thank you for that.

      • lunchcoma

I want to find whoever is responsible, kidnap them, and lock them up in my basement to make undergarments all day.

      • MilaXX

I would 10 bras like that in every color of the rainbow. Those are spectacular breast.

      • butterflysunita

I know….in red carpet posts they always tell you who designed the dress, shoes, jewelry….never mind that, who designed the undergarments? We all want that bra!

        • decormaven

          Le Mystere.

      • AnnaleighBelle

Seriously. They start all the way up under her collarbone and just keep billowing. I would love to be able to afford her bra wrangler.

      • sweetestsith

Could it be a corset? Whatever it is, I’m sure it was custom made for her.

    • Tatiana Luján

That shade of blue works really great with dark brown eyes.
      Who is her undergarment provider?

    • Anna

“A totally Oprah-specific combination of drag queen and earth mother:” ‘Nuff said.

    • @Biting Panda

This makes me feel as if “Oprah” should be a category. One similar to “werq”. Possibly saved for your women with full sized figures, who serve up perfection, from the undergarments to the accessories.

      • demidaemon

I love the idea of giving out “Oprah’s.”

        • georgie

You get an Oprah! And YOU get an Oprah! Everyone gets an Oprah!

          • Namina

I am literally in tears right now!

          • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

Here I was, feeling like shit in the wake of a bad breakup, and you came along and made me laugh my fool head off. Thank you. <3

      • http://piblet.tumblr.com/ Anastasia

In Russian, we use the exultation “Oppah!” to exclaim surprise or approval – Oppah’s from Oprah. This should definitely be a thing.

      • Erin Schubert Needham

Just as men are advised to Willis the Fuck Up, women would do well to Get Your Oprah On. (Anyone remember that theme song, circa 1991 or so? Oy, I’m old.)

        • @Biting Panda

          Yes!! This. Exactly this!!

    • Sarah

On any other person, that brooch would look like a rogue boob-loving sea anemone. The Power of Oprah is Strong to make that work, but work it does.

      • mjude

that’s what I was thinking about the brooch. she looks great.

      • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

On any other person, that brooch would look like a rogue boob-loving sea anemone.

Actually, it looks like that on Lady O, too, it’s just that you she has it well under control.

      • @Biting Panda

Can you imagine, some misguided, wisp of a starlet trying to make a huge ass brooch work? They’d topple over! I’ve never understood Oprah’s past desires to be smaller in stature, she is stunning, just like this.

        • Sarah

Yup. Being yourself is always the best way to be stunning, methinks.

        • KateM

          Yep, she looks AMAZING!

        • AnaRoW

At first it was as if she didn’t care but the tons of negative press about her weight took its toll. I should point out that this isn’t her heaviest weight but the compromise she finally settled on. I haven’t seen her in person but I’d be surprised if she was actually plus-sized. I’m guessing she’s in the size 12 to 14 range.

          • formerlyAnon

I think you’ve got it. She’s at the thin/fit end of her “comfortable” range – the one she managed to stay in for longer than a week at a time.

    • Mary229

I think this is my favorite thing she has ever worn. In fact, I think it’s a Werq.

    • butterflysunita

Oprah looks gorgeous. Love the color.

    • eowyn_of_rohan

Fabulosity. I hope she goes to the Oscars, looking this killer, just to make the Academy weep with regret over nominating Julia Roberts instead of her.

    • A Shiny O’Connor

      I NEED Oprah’s SPanx recipe.

    • jilly_d

Is that spanxx or some form of dark arts? Bitch doesn’t have a lump or bump to be found! She looks divine – that waist!

      • MilaXX

If it is I want dome of that juju

    • SewingSiren

Christina Hendricks needs to take a page from Oprah play book.

      • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

        100% agreed. :)

        • demidaemon

          I’ll third that statement.

          • decormaven

            Chiming in the chorus…

      • Zaftiguana

I was just about to type something similar! Not necessarily all of the specific looks that Oprah’s wearing since Christina’s not as mature and has a different personality and image, but in terms of respecting the need for balance and attention to shape and silhouette, she and her people should definitely be taking notes.

      • MilaXX

With her red hair I bet Christina could wear this dress and look fabulous.

      • scoobynacks

If we’re having a support intervention with Christina, can Abigail Breslin sit to the side and take notes?

      • http://piblet.tumblr.com/ Anastasia

Oooh, Christina would look fabulous in this dress. The color would be ravishing on her.

    • Janet B

      Truly spectacular!

    • Lilyana_F

      BAM!

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

This Oprah is the best Oprah.

    • Kent Roby

Without the broach (and the way it pulls the neckline down asymmetrically) this dress could be a bit basic; with it the entire look goes to WERQ. Love.

      • eowyn_of_rohan

The designers should really send her a fruit basket and thank you note for making their dress look that fab.

        • Kent Roby

I’d be afraid to send a fruit basket for fear that the fruit came from an orchard that isn’t on one of the continents that Oprah owns. But I’d gush like a geyser in the thank-you note.

    • schadenfreudelicious

Miss Oprah wins the no sag award, those are some amazing undergarments!

    • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

I loved this. Only Lupita was ahead of her on this carpet, I thought.

I would now like to perform the interpretative dance of these photos. :)

Photo 1 – It is I, Oprah. I have arrived.

Photo 2 – I will allow you to bask in my supreme magnificence, momentarily.

Photo 3 – These are my breasts. Yes, they are spectacular. You may photograph them. You may look, but you may not touch. These breasts are above your pay grade.

Photo 4 – Yes, I cannot believe they did not nominate me too. It is unbelievable! But I am fine with it, truly!

Photo 5 – I have to leave now, before you form a mob and try to kill me because you fear my awesomeness. I will leave you with the memories. KTHX!

    • cocohall

She’s giving spectacular boobage without being vulgar. And her hair is sensational. She also seemed completely at ease – no expectation to win, so just enjoying the ride. Traveling with Lee Daniels in your posse also must be exceptionally fun. After he escorted Orpah, he took Mariah for a spin on the RC and even dished with Ross from E!

    • marlie

This is perfect for her! I love the color, I love the hair, and I love the brooch. And few could pull off that brooch. And it sounds weird to talk about her underwear, but her foundation garments couldn’t be more perfect.

      • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

I think it is very important to talk about her underwear because we can learn a lot of great lessons here. :) The most important lesson being – Never underestimate the importance of excellent foundation garments, they can make or break your outfit.

Oprah was telling us for years to get fitted bras, and also the importance of tailoring. She knows of which she speaks. :)

    • AnneElliot

Wow, that’s gorgeous. I LOVE the brooch, and the color of that dress is fabulous. It’s a WERQ for me.

    • MilaXX

WERQ Mama O, werq. I want her foundation garments, because they are doing her proud I agree about the eyeshadow, I would have preferred a soft pinky brown shadow and more color on the lip.

    • ballerinawithagun

      BOLD!!!

    • YoungSally

The foundation garments were better on the last dress….but I will give it WERQ-(minus) bra

    • Glam Dixie

Something almost always seems off about her foundation (makeup not garments, those are obviously perfection). Her face always looks like it is multiple shades or her skin is really blotchy. If she were an actual drag queen Michelle would say she has a 5 o’clock shadow and Ru would say she’s not blending.

    • Wendi126

The color purple(see what I did there) she is wearing is gorgeous

    • ashtangajunkie

Curves for days – she looks spectacular. My comparative 11 year old boy’s body is envious.

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

      Va-voom!

    • Mismarker

“And YOU get a bra! And YOU get a bra! And YOU get a bra!”

Gotta hand it to O. I’m rocking a solid D and mine never look this good.

    • Lily-Rygh

I fear saying anything that goes against the force of nature that is Oprah, especially because I generally think she looks lovely here. But every time I look at this, I immediately think the brooch is so heavy that it’s pulling down her dress!

Still, I’d cut a bit for her shapewear.

      • Gatto Nero

Never fear: that formidable left boob is holding everything in place.

    • kimmeister

Everything looks great … but I feel like the brooch is pulling down one of her ladies.

    • Gatto Nero

Fabulous dress, and the brooch is killah.
      Well done, Lady O.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Who makes her shapewear and do they need a housekeeper that will work for lingerie?

    • Trickytrisha

That is pretty damned glorious. Bless her heart, she’s hitting homeruns right and left lately.

    • Call me Bee

Boobage and big arms. All of which looks great here. I have big Oprah-like arms, too, and I am going to run right out and get a dress just like this one.

    • alyce1213

      She really is all that.

    • SouthernGirlRena

She looks fantastic! I love/deeply envy her curls.

    • Jacob Bowen

Oprah could wear a muumuu with those undergarments and it would look SPECTACULAR. Her girls are SO well supported!

      • Viviennne

really? I think they need either more support or a reduction…. her poor back!

    • decormaven

That is presence, people. Snaps in a Z formation.

    • DesertDweller79

Damn, I would love to know what she is wearing as undergarments. That is amazing. Seriously, as a big breasted lady, this is information that would be very interesting to me.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Love the color-what better than royal purple for Ms. Winfrey? Her hair is fab, love that big brooch!

    • Gener1c

I wish I knew where she got her foundation garments. I would do everything I could to afford them – she looks amazing!

    • NBG

Photo 3: the look on her face is truly, “I don’t need any awards to make you all want to bow before me.” Man, the color, that hair, the brooch, and everything going on that we don’t see… Seriously, all she is missing is a scepter.

    • quiltrx

Beautiful dress and INCREDIBLY flattering! I loves me a good, big brooch.

    • cwade1211

Oprah has an uncommonly lovely and unwrinkled throat and upper chest area…not easy for those of us of a certain age!

    • boweryboy

Go on gurl with your bad self! WERQ it! Love the brooch.

    • Chickadeep

Am LOVING Ms. Oprah’s big hair lately. It’s so great and you’re right—totally balances out her silhouette. The color here is lovely, the giant brooch is fantastic (a very ShellyO choice) and the dress is beautifully cut and fitted.

    • Rachel Lee

That is a gorgeous shape and color, but it has to be said: no one wants spider eyes on their chest.

    • Closet Crisis

Yes ma’am! Oprah looks amazing! Great point about the foundation garments. Lesser sized girl stars should take note.

    • Diego!

WERQ! Way to go Miss O!

    • MsC

That, and the Spandex Anaconda line of her Spanx, are total WERQ.

    • Viviennne

Simply beautiful! Love the brooch! Nice balance of color and shape. —- but, her poor back!

    • PeggyOC

Whoever builds Oprah’s bras should go pay a charity call on Christina Hendricks. THIS is how you handle a large chest (I have one myself, so I know how hard it can be to wrangle).

    • formerlyAnon

Now THIS is what more money than god should buy you – the advice, the corsetry, the clothes, the people.

    • AnniNoone

As much of a cultural force as she is, she owes Mad Men a debt of gratitude.

    • Cindy

Work it Oprah!! You look FABULOUS!! EVERYTHING works with this ensemble: Hair, Make up, foundation wear. But if “I” were the Queen of T.V. and had all HER money, I’d be wearing some SERIOUS OVER THE TOP DIAMONDS!!

    • JaCory Deon

Whomever did her foundation garments should get paid! She looks delicious in this whole thing! Work!

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

      She looks absolutely incredible–WERQ.

    • http://angrynerdgirl.net/ Jessi03

It’s official. I require Oprah’s foundation garments. Please send them to me. Also, drag queen meets earth-mother is my life goal.
