Octavia Spencer in Michael Kors at the 2014 AFI Awards

Posted on January 11, 2014

Nice to see Miss Octavia taking a stroll with a new man.

Octavia Spencer attends the 2014 AFI Awards Luncheon in Beverly Hills, California in a Michael Kors dress navy and green striped dress accessorized with EF Collection jewelry.

Tadashi Shoji’s been her go-to designer for some time now – and with good reason. He rarely ever did wrong by her. But it’s always good to shake things up a little, especially if you’re someone whose picture gets taken a lot. This has some swing and shape to it, as well as a great color scheme for her and some bold graphic qualities. That’s all a pleasant turn for her. We’re not crazy about the two horns on her breasts, but this is a pretty great dress for her otherwise.

We do not want to acknowledge the Barbie-matching accessories, but we suppose we must. The shoes are cute, but the animal print should have stopped there, girl.

  • Like the dress, and I like the accessories, but not together. Also not feeling the hair.

    • SophieCollier

Yeah, her hair seems to be slowly devouring her face. Time for a trim?

      • MilaXX

        Or a side part.

      • Tatiana Luján

        time for a ponytail.

    • She needs to either fire or apologize to her hair gays, but either way — that’s just not good.

  • Sobaika

Clutch looks like something from Forever 21.

    • Vtg Fashion Library

      So do the bracelets.

  • MilaXX

First of all that is too much hair on her face. Lose the giant booms, girl. Secondly I like the dress, but it looks like it needs to be fitted a tiny bit more. It loos a little too big. Agree on the bag.shoe issue. One or the other, both is too matchy.

    • kimmeister

That darn crow is back, sticking its butt on her forehead.

  • Diego!

Great dress and it fits her like a glove. I like the shoes too but the matchy bag/clutch is too much. I won’t comment on her hair. (?)

  • Fantastic dress on her! I like the shoes and the clutch but not together. And she needs a new wig-wrangler.

  • filmcricket

Great shape on the dress, I’m not wild about the colours but they look good on her. Don’t mind the matching accessories. The wig really needs to go, those bangs do not suit her at all.

  • teensmom99

Somehow the horns work for me.

  • PastryGoddess

I kind of like the matching accessories. Am I weird?

  • TAGinMO

The Cavalier King Charles wig is unfortunate, but the dress is crazy-flattering and I love it…horns and all.

  • KinoEye

Great colors, but thanks to Mad Style, I can’t help but think “adultery” when I see blue and green together. She DOES have a new man in her life, in more ways than one!

  • MannahattaMamma

That hairdo makes it look like she’s peering out at us from a little bitty porthole…

  • formerlyAnon

Love the dress waist down, like it waist up. Too much hair in the face, though.

  • MoHub

The only thing I don’t like is the hair/wig. It totally obscures her lovely face.

    • formerlyAnon

Shall we all channel our mothers? “You should get that hair out of your face and let the world see how pretty you are!”

      • MoHub

  • ailujailuj

for a sweater dress on a curvy girl – what a great, smooooooth fit on her… nary a blubble or bulge. maybe it’s a greg camera angle. colors are awesome. needs to shift the wig back about 1/2 inch.

  • ashtangajunkie

Her face has all but disappeared behind her hair, but I love this dress on her.

  • poggi

I actually have this dress in my house! I think I am going to return it since Michael and I disagree about where my bust should stop but I had to comment since it’s the first time something I actually own (albeit temporarily) has shown up on TLo. It fits her very nicely though. I like it.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Like the dress, I think that’s a great color for Ms. Spencer. The hair could be better-it looks a bit too much.

  • Glam Dixie

She needs to fire her wig wrangler.

  • SewingSiren

Love the dress and super love the shoes. The bag is a bit much. Hate the wig.

  • Janet B

Too much hair, but the rest is very nice.

  • Wow, that’s really nice! Good for you. Yes, the print on either the shoes or the bag, but not both.

  • quiltrx

That’s a cool dress, and flattering. Great choice. I don’t like animal prints so i’ll just ignore the accessories.
But GURL, that is NOT your wig. And if that is your HAIR…oh my. You’re lovely, get all that out of your face!

  • jennifromcali

I luv huh! But why is she not smiling in any of her pictures any more? That lip together grimace that she is wearing lately is not a nice accessory.

    • marlie

She never really openly smiles on the red carpet. It’s only speculation, but I get the impression that she’s still not 100% comfortable with the step-and-repeat. I think she goes, makes sure she looks fabulous, gets her picture taken, and then moves on. I wish she would smile, but at least she’s not wearing the angry-face that someone like Zosia Mamet or Kristen Stewart usually wears.

      • jennifromcali

You know, I never noticed that before! I must have her confused with someone else. Lordie, you are so right about KStew and the “any place but here” face.

  • crash1212

I love this dress for her. Actually, I just love this dress. I was thinking the animal print should’ve stopped at the clutch, because I’m not crazy about the shoes…either way, it should’ve been on or the other. Also, the hair…just….no.

  • greyhoundgirl

Love the dress on her, don’t mind the shoes, hate the heavy, distracting hair.

  • Fred Vaughn

Don’t mind the matchy accessories, actually. The dress is nice, but the bangs… Sad, I say.

  • shelley514

Everything’s good except the hair. A very neat bun would have set this look off.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

I love her, but that wig is busted.

  • Trickytrisha

Dang it, poodle hair – go home, you’re drunk. The rest of the divine Ms. Octavia can stay and party. She’s looking sweet in that dress, and I can’t hate on the shoes and bag. I’d love to have a conversation with her.

  • Qitkat

That shade of green is pretty on her, but the navy just looks black to me. A little animal print goes a long way. I watched a Texas decorator show once, and she used so many different animal prints I wanted to throw her literally to a big cat for a nice dinner.

  • ThaliaMenninger

I’m good with the dress. But that wig has GOT to go.

  • mom2ab

Big breasts and vertical striped knits never get along, the wig is janky and the accessories are from Claires. Blech

  • MsMajestyk

I was thinking her new man was The Punisher or Cthulhu because that’s all I see. That said, I do like this dress and it fits her like a dream.

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluk

Her wig reminds me of a cocker spaniel I had when I was a girl.

I want to like the dress because I love that green and navy blue combination. But the waist is making my eyes twitch. I hope it’s an optical illusion, but I have a feeling that if she turned sideways, the back hem of that dress would be 3″ higher than the front.

    • demidaemon

Gives new meaning to the term “cocker spaniel hair,” no?

  • pookiesmom

  • Tatiana Luján

lov the dress, hate the hair.

  • Nicole Little

Not a fan of the bright, bold skinny-girl-silhouette highlighted in a dark dress for a bigger girl. What does that say about the bigger girl? We like the middle slice of you? I’d like this look more if it didn’t have that hanging over it.

  • ThesisMonkey

love the dress, hate the purse/shoes

  • marlie

I like the dress – green and navy are my current favorite color combo. But the shoes and the clutch are all wrong. I maybe could have gotten past just the shoes, but the shoes AND the clutch are all wrong. And her hair is overwhelming her face.

  • Imasewsure

Hate this from head to toe. Color yes… everything else yuck sorry

  • LaSylphide

Oh dear, the bangs are back.

Not crazy about the dress, especially the jewel neckline, which is only flattering to someone with a three-foot long neck. And the leopard accessories should be sent back to the zoo; there’s a place for leopard print, but this isn’t it.

Oh dear, the bangs are back.

  • otempuraomoreplease

The wig is far too loo. It makes her look like an Old English Sheepdog.

  • msdamselfly

Get all that hair off her face and she would look fine

  • GillianHolroyd

Who on earth would think to pair a preppy green and navy look with animal print accessories?
