I’d put the big glittery ring on the un-bedazzled side…

      • @Biting Panda

Yaaas!! That is making me twitchy; I need balance. (It’s a problem.)

      • deelup

Wondering if she’s left handed and wanted to carry the clutch with her left hand?

    • Kiltdntiltd

Her hair is oddly off kilter, like someone just slapped her really hard.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

And then all the sequins flew to the other side of the dress as well!

      • ailujailuj

yes. but I love that look. that’s why I useta go out with The Hammer.

      • demidaemon

        That event is highly probable.

    • foodycatAlicia

Girl, that’s not your dress. Send it to une femme d’un certain age who actually needs that extra coverage. If you do, we never need mention this hair incident again.

      • kimmeister

Not that she needs coverage, but I was thinking that JLo would totally rock this dress.

        • foodycatAlicia

She would. She’d give it divatude.

        • NYCGlamourpuss

YES! It would be flattering on JLo without her resorting to one of those ridiculous “Of COURSE I’m still 19!” outfits she’s so fond of.

    • marlie

I like the dress, but MAN that must have been uncomfortable to sit in. I like the shoes, but they’re too big, and even I – who loves even the highest of heels – can’t imagine how she’s walking around in those. But damn if that isn’t some last minute hair, and her makeup is fine, but needs to be amped up a bit (LIP COLOR).

Also: I’d kill for her eyebrows.

      • foodycatAlicia

She must’ve just perched on her left cheek.

    • Karen Belgrad

There’s enough snow on the ground, it doesn’t also need to be on uniboobs! (and hate the hair)

    • Daisy Walker

Like the dress. Hate the shoes and hair.

    • MilaXX

I thought this looked really pretty on the show last night, yet it looks just okay here in stills.

      • mjude

I didn’t realize the show was on last night. was it any good? I don’t know who these people are. am I that out of the loop?

        • foodycatAlicia

I think she’s in a vampire thing aimed at younger people than I.

          • mjude

            thank you! :)

          • marlie

It’s a fun-ish show, if you’re into angsty teenager-vampire love triangles. I used to watch it, but then I missed an episode or two and realized that I didn’t really care about it all that much.

            • foodycatAlicia

I don’t think it screens in the UK, I only really know of it from the fuggirls.

            • demidaemon

That happened to me with Styled to Rock.

        • MilaXX

It was okay. I think of People Choice awards as the precursor to the Golden Globes & the start of the awards season.

    • Latin Buddy

Project Runway: I took a simple jersey LBD from Walgreens…sprayed glue on one side and asked my model to roll around in glitter. Done. I’m f-ing Dior.

      • Introspective

nailed!! this is giving me ice skater in the boardroom realness. and i agree with whomever said above that jlo has the chops for this more than nina does.

nice try but between the messy hair, the smoke and mirrors of the dress and such predictable styling (that silver shoe is too much, and with that ring we’ve gone off a barbie cliff) im less impressed than I want to be given how much i like nina’s RC appearances.

    • @Biting Panda

This is another that I’m feeling mostly pretty good about. I get what she was trying for with the hair, it just didn’t work. Overall, given where she was and that she had to accept an award for Best Chemistry, with her now Ex, I’m willing to give her all kinds of passes. She could have shown up a hot, drunk, mess but she put in the effort to think out the look from head to toe.

      • Jessica Freeman

I feel like if my Ex was Ian, I would basically show up wearing a shirt saying “yes, I shagged him. A Lot”.

        • @Biting Panda

Yeah? He gives me smarmy vibes. To each her own, though. I can see how the piercing, blue eyes could win your heart.

          • mlle

He likes puppies and has really nice abs. I can see the appeal.

          • Jessica Freeman

He’s hot. I’m single. ‘Nough said.

          • foodycatAlicia

Puppies and eyes. I’m very easy to please.

    • Janet B

Seems as if color on your lips is passe.

    • TAGinMO

My, the Bitter Kittens are TESTY today. For me this is at least an Attagirl, and possibly a WERQ. She looks lovely.

      • butterflysunita

I agree. She is bringing it. Looks better in that dress than the model.

    • Danielle

I really like this whole look, but I do agree with putting the ring on the other side. She gets snaps of respect from me.

    • Nancer

Beautiful and winter appropriate – though the shoes are a bit bare. Also, the hair is a bit fraught. Yet overall lovely.

      • kimmeister

Yes, my biggest quibble is that the shoes are not right for that dress. Definitely needed a pump.

        • Nancer

      • Constant Reader

I agree! I thought maybe it’s because the look is in my wheelhouse (black, severe silhouette with sparkle), so I’m glad to see some other BKs agreeing. Hate the hair, and would have preferred a less naked shoe, though.

    • Spreecord

I didn’t realize they made skating costumes that long.

    • Rand Ortega

This is definitely a “1st Glance” look. At 1st glance I love everything. On further examination, there’s all kinds of wrong going on. The dress is really heavy, unbalanced, & a little ageing. The hair is STRANGE. That bump on top is straight out of a DEVO video. The accessories are too matchy. Don’t get me started on the virtual planetoid ring. She could put her eye out with that thing.

    • julesj

Ship the dress off to Helen Mirren.

      • MzzPants

Mmmm, Queen Helen, depending on her mood, might pair this with black tights and chunky black sandals. Then we’d have to scold her, which would be a shame because I love her so.

        • formerlyAnon

I’m thinking the only question would be whether the chunky sandals were black or silver.

    • deelup

Not digging the hair (girl I sympathize with having flyaways… ugh!) but otherwise I think she looks gorgeous. And a bit different from her too- not just some tiny mini thing that she wears so often.

    • Cheryl

I like it, except for the shoes, which she seems to be sliding out of. There is extra room behind her heels, yet her toes are hanging ever to slightly over the front. That is bad engineering.

    • SugarSnap108

I think I’d like the dress with a shorter hemline. Don’t like anything else, though, from the hair to the shiny/match-y accessories.

    • In_Stitches

I think she looks fabulous, like a snow drift of diamonds. The hair is a bit messy, the collar a bit loose and the accessories a bit cheap, but those are all minor affronts. She looks great.

    • MinAgain

That dress is way too old for her. And too long, as well.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

Nina Dobrev IS the polar vortex.

    • decormaven

I like the contrast of the shimmer and deep black, but the way it is placed on the dress, plus, the offset styling of the hair bun, makes everything look tilted to me. Minor quibble- polish on the fingers needs to be repeated on the toes in this look.

    • Monzerrat Ontiveros

      Well, that hair is awful!

    • Anna_Cecilia

Not a fan of half-assed (in this case, quite literally) embellished looks. The bedazzled side looks like metallic pipe cleaners. I can’t even with the hair, the point of updos meant to look like they’ve been slept in has always escaped me.

      Face is lovely though.

    • boweryboy

A well deployed use of the updo – even if it’s totally sloppy, and a perfect pairing with the silver sandals. Nice.

Minor quibbles: I would switch the cocktail ring to the other hand; give her dramatic evening make-up – something with color, like an icy blue shadow; and change out the clutch for something brighter to bring in a pop of color, perhaps riffing on the icy blue shadow.

Otherwise, A for effort random ladystar I’ve never heard of.

    • webslice33

good for her not showing her boobage..she still looks sexy as hell..

    • ashtangajunkie

Shoes, flyaways, sure. But she looks gorgeous. Love the dress.

    • ThaliaMenninger

I hate the shoes (broken record) but I like the dress on her a lot and I’m fine with the hair, too. There was so much boobage on display last night that this dress looks even better by comparison.

    • Jessica Freeman

If you’re going to wear a long sleeve turtle neck dress, I don’t think sandals are the shoe to wear. Unless your my mother who is going through The Pause and is always hot and wears open toed shoes to help cool down.

    • Imasewsure

Love the dress on the model who is making it work as a fancy day dress… not loving (or hating) any of it on Nina – just meh

    • Jaeda Laurez

I love it. Even with the naked shoe, because it accents the sparkle of the dress. But count me as someone who infinitely prefers naked shoes over the hoof-looking platforms that have been in season these last couple of years.

    • Gaby

I like the dress but I feel it required even bigger hair – it’s a very Dolly Parton dress. Actually, just send it to Ms Parton – I don’t think Nina here has the presence for it, especially with the bland matching silver accessories. Yawn. Mourning drag queen Barbie.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Pssst, Dobrev. Your Eastern Europe is showing.

    •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Wow. This is the first time I’ve considered a hairdo overwrought.

    • msdamselfly

gorgeous dress but the overall look is kind’ve dark with her complexion

    • KT

She looks great and the dress is pretty fab, but that hair is almost ruining the look. That’s something I would have tried to do to my hair in the 7th grade, thinking I looked “edgy,” and would have ended up with just about as many fly-aways.

    • mlle

That’s very fancy gym hair. I like the dress and think she’s mainly pulling it off (and some of the points off are for styling).

    • Jessi03

Poor thing. Slipped and fell in a big pile of glitter.

    • MzzPants

While it’s not setting me on fire, I lke this look. The accessories and fit bring it up a notch from the runway version and the sandals are winter holiday appropriate.

    • Trickytrisha

Beautiful girl (woman? not sure of her age), but hate the hair, don’t care for the dress and am meh about the shoes. This is a really big PR thing for her, she could have done better.

    • MGMcD

It’s a fabulous dress but it needs a real boss bitch to pull it off. Sharon Stone? J. Lo? Nina is lovely with a figure to die for but she ain’t got the cojones to own this.

    • Tracy_Flick

It seems like she was trying to bring the look to a little more casual place, but I think it just ended up looking mismatched. The bedhead, sandals, and nude lip just look out of place with that diva-ish dress. At home, laid out on her bed, she has jeans and a sweater, pumps like the model’s wearing, some gorgeous earrings, and a rich shade of lipstick – just a crazy mixup.

    • formerlyAnon

The hair. Unfortunate. Overall, though, I like, though it isn’t as stunning on her as this dress ought to be on its wearer.

    • Pennymac

      Darling, your dress is mildewing.

    • Hetha Innis

Reminds me of Andre’s pebble dress from Season 2 (I think? He was on with Santino and Nick) of PR. Obviously this is an upscale version of it, but that was my first reaction.

    • Sunraya

This girl gets it right most of the time. I love this on her. It IS January, after all.

    • ailujailuj

ohh… I love her hair and the nude makeup. she’s so purty. but wtf with the hooker shoes.
And the dress would be so lovely if it were nude, too.

    • elzatelzabelz

I think it is an interesting choice that works. It shows shape without being all tight and bandagey. It looks a million times better on her than the model.

    • sunflower

Not her best, but at least it’s seasonally appropriate.

    • conniemd

The dress looks really sexy on her and shows off her figure beautifully. It looks blah on the model. She’s a beautiful young woman. Hair is awful, don’t get it.

    • Shawn EH

That looks like Beyonce’s dress to me. Or maybe Solange’s.

    • H2olovngrl

This is NOT. A sandals kind of dress.

    • St. Ace

Quick! She’s turning into ice! Somebody save her with an Act of True Love!
