Michael B. Jordan and Zac Efron at the “That Awkward Moment” Premiere

Posted on January 23, 2014

Here’s a double-dose of cute for you. Because we think you need it right now.

Michael B. Jordan and Zac Efron attend the “That Awkward Moment” premiere in New York City. Michael B. Jordan is wearing a Vivienne Westwood suit and Zac Efron is wearing a Dolce&Gabbana three-piece suit.

Pretty sure no one’s reading this right now, but what the hell:

Michael B: LOVE the unusual color of the suit, but somehow the shirt and shoes aren’t helping to set it off. The brown of the shoes seems to compete with the suit and that taupey-whatever color of the shirt comes close to clashing with it. We like the idea of a purple tie, but our eyes see it paired with a white shirt and a much darker shoe.

Zac: Looks slightly unadventurous standing next to Michael, but it’s a crisp, well-fitted, and impeccable. Very nicely done.

  • Michael B Jordan always does this smile like an 8 year old having his school photo taken, which I find really endearing.

    • jilly_d

      Nailed it.

  • Joanna

They are both well tailored – more than we can say about a lot of the boys on the red carpet – so they get five stars from me.

  • marlie

I like the suits that both guys are wearing, but I think Zac’s execution was better this time around.

ETA: Am I supposed to laugh when Zac does his “Blue Steel”? Because I did.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

Yea, I even prefer the finger guns or thumbs up to the Blue Steel.

  • another_laura

They are awfully cute and clearly having fun, but I have a nit to pick with Mr. Jordan. I hate the way that shirt is pulling. Color combo is okay by me, though.

  • fursa_saida

Michael B. Jordan’s face is just entirely unfair. It’s like an animator drew him to be as adorable as possible.

I think the shirt was maybe supposed to be a very subtle green, which might be an interesting direction to go with the rust-ish suit, but it’s not green enough to really work the complementary contrast. I know this is a safe choice, but my instinct here is a light blue shirt, keep the purple tie. (The color of the shirt does look good on him and with the tie, but it’s not right with the suit.)

  • mjude

how did you know I needed a double dose of cute? thanks!

    • gabbilevy

I suspect this poledance is going to do the body good.

  • Latin Buddy

I only see one star in these pics and that it Michael Jordan. How many flops will Hollywood allow Zac Efron before they realize he, much like Justin Timerberlake, isn’t going to happen.

    • KinoEye

“Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen! It’s never gonna happen!”

    • Anna

      Hear, hear!

    • Sobaika

A straight, white, blandly good-looking, and sexually non-threatening young man?

He’ll get projects greenlit for years. No matter how many flops he is in.

      • filmcricket

I am so, so, so sure that when they get around to remaking all the Michael J. Fox 80s vehicles they’re going to tap him to play the lead.

        • Kimbolina

Hush your mouth. Remaking Michael J. Fox 80s movies? Sacrilege! If Back to the Future ever gets remade, I will cry.

          • SassieCassy

upvote a hundred times! i love that trilogy

    • I actually thought he had major sex appeal in the one movie I saw him in, which was something I can’t remember but also starred Leslie Mann. It made an impression.

      • @Biting Panda

        17 Again. Yup.
He had that same degree of heat in The Lucky One too.

      • demidaemon

I actually really liked him in Hairspray, as well.

    • AnaRoW

Zac actually has a lot of appeal, enough to make him a star, although I don’t think he’s the actor that Michael is. He is blandly good-looking but he’s also extremely charming and comes across well on the big screen.

Justin also has a lot of appeal. I don’t know much about how he is as an actor except that SNL wouldn’t go wrong by adding him to the regular cast.

  • KinoEye

Michael! I was hoping TLo would feature him soon so I could rant about the exclusion of Fruitvale Station at the Academy Awards. First, he looks too cute here (forget about the Efron). Second, I saw Fruitvale this weekend and it blew me away. Beautiful, and so sad. I cried at the end. I agree with what others said about the film here — Hollywood picked one “black” film to celebrate, and excluded all the others. And of course it’s the one in which the events took place a few years ago, as opposed to a century ago. Michael, Octavia and the film itself deserved to be recognized purely because what they did was outstanding art. Color absolutely should not matter here, or anywhere else, for that matter. Way to go, Academy, for excluding one of the most moving and beautifully-made films I’ve seen in years.

    • MilaXX

Don’t get me started in the exclusion of Fruitvale. *throws shoe at the Academy*

      • KinoEye

Haha, after I watched it with my mom, I ranted to her about the Academy for a good hour. Their logic is so obvious and flagrantly offensive. I still haven’t seen 12 Years, but there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s magnificent and absolutely deserves its recognition. But it still reads as a “token” nomination in many respects, especially because they ignored Fruitvale, in addition to Forrest Whitaker and Oprah in The Butler (not a great film, but what those two did would have gotten white actors in the same roles nominations in a heartbeat). As much as they’d like to appear colorblind, they definitely aren’t. And it pisses me off.

        • Sobaika

I will agree with you there – the Academy has been awarding mediocre ‘white’ movies and performances for years.

In TLo’s Academy Awards post, I don’t think there was a page that went without shock at the Fruitvale Station (and Mandela) snub.

        • They are totes colourblind. They don’t even notice that white is a colour.

        • MilaXX

I don’t think 12 Years was a token nomination. I think they had 2 great films they couldn’t not give a nom to. I think Fruitvale being more current, touches off nerves many are not ready to discuss, especially in year in which we had the murder of Trayvon Martin in the headlines. Nominating 12 Years says this was an ugly piece of history. Nominating Fruitvale says we still have a race issue.

          • KinoEye

Much better articulated than what I was trying to say!

          • NinjaCate

I think you hit the nail on the head. !2 Years is about how America USED TO BE racist. Fruitvale is about how it still pretty much is.

          • Alloy Jane

Ok now I have to watch this movie.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

well said-I2 Years and Fruitvale are both excellent films, and in a better world both would have received nominations.

    • ailujailuj

the only redeeming quality about “the academy”… is the R.C. show and fashion police.

  • @Biting Panda

    Pretty boys being pretty? Okay!!

  • Janet B

Can’t complain about cute boys looking fabulous

  • Imasewsure

Wasn’t sure what was making the execution of that nice brownish suit not work so thank you for laying it all out for me… love the effort and love Zac’s suit and fit… cuties indeed

  • ashtangajunkie

This is just great. Adorable x 2.

  • eowyn_of_rohan

This will be on the syllabus of the next class I teach, “Menswear 101: Get Your Frigging Pants Hemmed.”

    • demidaemon

That should be required for all boystars at “Celebrity Academy,” with two hundred forthcoming locations across the country!

  • MilaXX

    Zac – slightly douche-y vibe
Michael – I like the shoe, but wish the shirt were white LOVE the tie. He’s my cougar crush.

  • filmcricket

I don’t mind Jordan’s shirt, but agree the shoes are a needle scratch.

Is it weird that I’m perversely pleased he’s in this? Like, I’m sure it’s going to be awful and I have no interest in seeing it, but it’s nice that he’s not just the go-to for OMG SRS DRAMZ movies. And while I’d bet Zefron’s the real “lead” it seems like Jordan’s not just the funny black best friend in it either.

  • stubbornthoughts

I didn’t think it was possible, but I’m actually more attracted to someone standing next to Zac Efron. WHOA.

    Loved you on Parenthood, Michael!

  • NBG

My goodness that is a lot of cute for one post. And it isn’t even Friday yet!

  • lunchcoma

I’ll give Michael B. Jordan a pass on all the nitipicks. Here, we have two gorgeous men who bothered to a) put on ties and dress shoes, b) wear something besides boring neutral banker suits, c) shave.

Compared to 99% of men I see posing these days, these are both excellent showings.

    • Denise Alden

      Exactly! They look terrific!

  • drooooool. MBJ can have my everything.

  • mmebam

I love a good cognac shoe, and i disagreed that Michael’s shirt should’ve been white. Maybe a little lighter or yellower or greener, but not white.

  • berkeleygirl

Michael B. Jordan’s charisma is blinding. If you haven’t yet seen Fruitvale Station, see it now. Fabulous movie, incredible performances (especially Octavia Spencer, who was criminally overlooked by the Oscar committee), but Jordan is phenomenal…

    • bitchybitchybitchy

you are so right about Fruitvale Station-one of the best movies I saw in 2013!

    • Can’t wait to see it. He was so great in The Wire and Friday Night Lights! Definitely one to watch.

  • MK03

When Zac Efron grows up, he’s gonna be Robert Downey Jr.

Seriously, he was cloned in a lab.

  • Lilyana_F

I always adore everything about Michael B Jordan. 😀

  • MilaXX

Looking at this on a different monitor, Michael, shoe is closer to the color of the suit

    • marlie

Same here. And on this monitor, the shirt color works better with the suit than the tie does.

  • Shawn EH

They’re mugging mercilessly, but it seems like they bonded making the film.

  • 3boysful

I nearly didn’t click on this one, then when I reached your first scrolldown line, I laughed aloud!

  • lrober03

The fit of Michael’s jacket is bugging me. The shoulders don’t seem to be sitting right and it appears a bit wide through the torso. But I can forgive all matter of sins for that face.

  • Glam Dixie

James Earl Jones voice, “Totes Adorbs!”

    • Denise Alden

My husband can’t believe how I laugh every time I see that ad!

      • Glam Dixie

I’ll back it up and play it again. It’s hysterical.

        • Denise Alden

I also love “I kind of want to go out . . . but I kind of want to stay in, too”

          • Glam Dixie

I think it their phrasing and those voices. They could say anything and make it funny.

          • demidaemon

That’s my current favorite commercial, and pretty much the only one I will stop whatever I am doing to watch.

          • girliecue

Especially with their completely deadpan faces!

  • shirab

Saw Michael B. on Kelly and Michael yesterday and he was as cute as could be with a tan v-neck sweater and appropriate shirt and pants and dimples. He was plugging his new comedy, the one he and Efron are in, and he said that he keeps dying in all the movies he’s in and his mom can’t take it anymore, so he was glad to get to do something funny instead. I just loved that he mentioned that bc as a mom I can totally understand that watching your son die horrible onscreen deaths would take a toll.

  • Trickytrisha

Aww, I want one of each.

  • Nika E

  • somebody blonde

They may clash with the suit, but the shoes on Michael are absolutely gorgeous.

  • lillyvonschtupp

Zac’s suit looks like something Pete Campbell would wear. But its nice.

  • Nonnah

Does Zac always look like he’s giving “blue steel?” He looks great when he’s smiling. They both look great. It’s nice to see boys make the effort!

  • stephbellard

Can they just fuck already? They’re both SO beautiful.

    • demidaemon

A full on kiss would be nice, too.

      • formerlyAnon

And marginally more likely to be shared world wide on video.

  • demidaemon

Is anyone else finding Zac Efron’s head really distracting and not in a good way?

Michael is super duper cute and I love his outfit. Zac did well, too; I just can’t get past his head.

  • Haley Buchanan

Cute boys being cute! Love the color of Michael’s suit. But, mostly, Cute boys being cute!

  • formerlyAnon

Like Mr. Efron’s suit better, but Mr. Jordan is just as cute as a bug in a rug and that’s a win.

  • d4divine

If you could read my mind love, what a tail my thoughts would tell…

  • Jessica Freeman

Love Michael’s suit, hate the shoes. Zac is just precious.

  • jw_ny

Michael’s smile is infectious…I can’t help but love him. His suit jacket looks a bit small/short sleeved, and the shirt color and collar shape, are the big problems with his outfit. His shoes really don’t go, but I’m guessing he LOVES them….probably a shoe freak. 😉

Plastic Zac…ick…irrational hate list…makes it difficult to say that I really like his suit.

  • boweryboy

I think Michael would look so much better without the facial hair. It’s too Snidely Whiplash for me. I keep waiting for him to twirl his moustache sinisterly.

There’s no help for Efron. He looks like a wax figure as usual.

  • acevedob

It’s weird to see Zac in that kind of suit. I don’t like it. It’s for someone ten years older, like Chris Pine.

  • sagecreek

I still remember MBJ all the way back to his All My Children days…I’m delighted to see him doing so well. Although boweryboy isn’t wrong about the facial hair.

  • MannahattaMamma

their teeth are so white it’s scaring me. Efron’s suit is great; his smile/grimace weirds me out.

  • Qitkat

Michael’s shoes are the best thing about all of this.
Purple tie, tiny pointed collar greige shirt, rusty suit next to plaid suit, too skinny polka dot tie, and a round collar white shirt? Too much fuckery.
But I can’t deny they look super cute together.

  • I think a white shirt on Michael B. might be a little too high-contrast, but I could go for a pale blue or lavender. The one he’s got looks all right to me. Efron’s hair is reminding me of a Cool Shaving Ken doll I owned as a child. That doll always gave me the creeps and he cheated on all my Barbies.

  • KT

I also appreciate the unusual approach to Michael B’s look, but the colors are clashing in a way that’s making my eyes twitch. Honestly, the purple-green combo immediately made me think of Jack Nicholson as the joker.

Zac Efron needs to stop. Just — go away.

  • Daktari100

This is the CUTEST thing I have seen in a while.
