Kristen Wiig in Valentino at the “The Spoils Of Babylon” LA Premiere

Posted on January 08, 2014

Kristen is wearing a dress that’s loaded with personality and visual interest! Huzzah!

Kristen Wiig attends the premiere of “The Spoils of Babylon” in Los Angeles, California in Valentino.

Valentino Spring 2014 Collection

It’s Zooey Deschanel’s dress, but so what? We predict this one’s going to make the rounds this season. Not really loving the shoes at all. In fact, we think they’re kind of ugly. But she’s wearing makeup and she got her hair did, which is refreshing. Usually she completely neglects her head when she puts on something a little attention-seeking like this. It’s not perfect, but it’s more put together than most things we’ve seen her in. Attagirl.

Now let’s predict who’ll wear this dress next. The fun thing about the “hot dress” is to see how wide a range it has. Let one of the babystars have a crack at it next. Give it to Annasophia Robb, we say.

KW, fire that stylist. Someone JUST wore that dress really well, on a glossy magazine cover, no less. Whoever told you it was no big deal to wear it again is LYING TO YOUR FACE.

  • Sarah

Yay for Wiig! You are lookin’ good, lady. I actually like it better on her than Zooey, because it’s fairly predictable on her, but on Kristen, it is so refreshing! Good shape for her.

    • manina

I think she looks fresh. Love the make-up and the simple hair. Something about the fabric reminds me of historical Babylon or Byzantine style, especially on the model.

  • guyfromhoboken

the dress makes her look like a Lichtenstein painting.

    • giddypony

      An improvement.

  • gigi kennedy

oooh the shoes are a pity…but high five Kristen! lookin’ good girl!

  • BerlinerNYC

Does it really need to be so short? Not saying she doesn’t have the stems for it, it just looks like she’d be happier if the hem were a few inches lower.

    • A Shiny O’Connor

Agreed. Knee length would have been divine.

      • Call me Bee

        Ecsaaaaatly what I was thinking.

      • Constant Reader

        My thoughts, as well.

  • A Shiny O’Connor

To the Bat-shoes! They’re a pair of eye magnets. Seriously I can’t take the rest of the look in.

    • 3boysful

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

With the exception of the hiddy shoes, she looks smashing. I didn’t think this dress would work on a grown up.

  • Danielle

I don’t know how I feel about her hair.

    • charlotte

I know that she needed an intervention, but I’m not sure if this is it.

    • Introspective

i think i know how i feel. meh.

    • Sarah

I think it looks pretty good. It usually looks thin, and here she has some body to her cut and it stands out more. And I dig her side-swept bangs. The color is hard to see in this light though, so I can’t really speak to that.

    • Morales Mike

Her hair reminds me of when Priscilla Presley cut hers short on Dallas back in the mid-80s.

  • As a(n un)famous comedienne, I’m always disappointed at how (actually) famous comediennes dress for the red carpet. I saw the thumbnail and squealed and was so happy to see color! Fishnet! Valentino! And more importantly, hope.

    • TrixieConQueso

I’m in your club of comediennes and I thought the same thing! Love her. And, glad the “International Model” career worked out for you…;0)

      • Ha! Still working on the character. Editing an aerobics video to release for spring on the YouTubes. My tens of fans cannot wait!

    • demidaemon

To be fair, I think most comediennes don’t necessarily have the same funds and/or clout to get the stylists they need/deserve. Look how long it took Kathy Griffin to get to a good place, RC-wise.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

I hate to say this, because this IS an improvement for her, but this looks much better on Zooey. It’s a great dress, but her styling is way off.

  • Ashleigh

    c u t e

  • LuisaNL

this is textbook GTINYD. and she knows it, too. the shoes are hideous. hair and makeup look good, though. mostly…

  • GeoDiva

Now she needs to learn a flattering pose. Standing straight up like she is getting measured at the doctor’s does no one any favors.

  • gabbilevy

I must be seeing a different dress than everyone else. I thought it was hiddy on Zooey (who it was made for) and even worse on Kristen. But… kudos for the colors and pattern?

    • marlie

I actually hated the dress on Zooey, but I like it here!

    • EveEve

Actually I am seeing a giant Parcheesi board. Then again, I pretty much dislike Chiuri &. Piccioli’s entire Spring 2014 RTW collection.

  • JulieTy

The biggest problem is that she looks SO uncomfortable in this outfit — almost as though she’s apologizing for wearing it. She is a beautiful woman and she needs to embrace it, as Tina Fey, Amy Pohler, Mindy Kalling, etc. have done.

  • carnush

    I think it’s Zoe Saldana’s dress.

    • Rand Ortega

      Nailed it.

  • EEKstl

It’s an interesting dress but needed to be longer, at least on her.

  • MilaXX

Someone had posted about her new hair and I was all excited until saw all she did was cut it. It’s still stick straight. I want to applaud her for taking a fashion chance but the whole look feels juvenile. I expect to see this on a Kiernan/Amandla/Halle type. Also that dress is aggressively ugly

    • Introspective

definitely a dress for the young starlet. and feels like stained glass windows in the 1970s. not exactly my fave. but e for effort?

      • NYCGlamourpuss

That’s what it is, that’s what’s bugging me about it that I couldn’t put my finger on. This looks like it should be on a much younger starlet. Granted, Zooey’s wearing it, and she ain’t no starlet. But it’s at least Zooey’s style.

    • Rand Ortega

That dress just kicked ugly’s ass then dared it to get up.

      • NYCGlamourpuss

That Dress and Ugly just got into a street fight. Tasteful and her friend Fabulous weren’t willing to try and separate them, so they just watched off to the side and bet on who would win.

        • mjude

          girl, you kill me!

          • NYCGlamourpuss

Xo! I have to give Rand Ortega all the credit for putting the thought process in my brain and allowing me to run with it!

    • Evan

I don’t understand why out of all the beautiful clothes from that collection, everyone keeps wearing this dress. There were much better dresses from that collection.

      • demidaemon

Maybe it’s the one they were willing to loan out?

        I got nothing.

  • kimmeister

I’m glad she’s wearing makeup, but that is too much blush, plus it’s competing with the lip color. Dress is fine on her, shoes are terrible.

Predictions for next wearers: Michelle Williams and/or Kate Hudson.

  • susu

Best she’s every looked (great hair/makeup), but I prefer the dress on Zooey. Wish I could afford it!

  • boldprint

from the ankles up, I think she looks fantastic. love the sleek hair.

  • melanie0866

Love the dress (not so much on her, but in general), but that hair – that’s what my hair looks like when I’m too lazy to blow it dry. That is to say, flat, style-less and shapeless. Is that in now? If so, I’m in luck.

  • ojosazules

Tyrolean Easter crafts dolly dress. I hate it. The bust is intensely unflattering, and the orange and pink peacock thing around her neck is killing me.

  • Jessica Freeman

If there was no crazy detailed bib and the other shit on her chest, this might have worked. It’s just Too Much for Kristen here.

  • Trickytrisha

If Zoey hadn’t done it first, and better, this dress might be be a refreshing departure from the usual on Kristen. As it is, even with the nice makeup, she looks very uncomfortable. I hate to say it, but she looks a tad mature for the dress to be effective.

  • teensmom99

Whoever wears it next, I hope she’ll wear it longer (that is a longer length). Not much longer, just closer to the knee.

  • Shawn EH

Let’s just hope it’s not Taylor Swift or Katy Perry.

    • kimmeister

For a moment I thought Taylor too, but I don’t think she’s one to wear the exact dress that others have worn. Katy’s chesticles would have a hard time being contained in that thing.

      • demidaemon

This has way too many colors for Swifty. Katy may give it a go.

  • MW

I’d like to see it on Rachel Bilson.

These shoes are ugly, I’m not entirely sure about the dress on her but her face looks pretty.

  • hughman

This may be the only RC dress ever that would work with wooden clogs.

    • decormaven

Clogs would be an improvement over those scary black shoes.

    • Aurumgirl

It may be the only RC dress that could be saved by wooden clogs.

    • SewingSiren

      Now you’re talking my language.

    • clatie

I am sporting a pair of wooden clogs and just clonked them together with delight at your comment. CLONK CLONK

  • butterflysunita

The dress is wearing her. As much as it pains me to say it, Zooey wore it better.

  • Wow. This floored me. I had only remarked yesterday that I loved Zoey in this dress on the cover of Elle. I think only a certain person with a certain kind of personality or vibe can pull this off. Oh Kristen. I wish I could love this on you, but it doesn’t go with you. You possess a different type of Adorkable. That ain’t it, kid…that ain’t it.

    • Up vote for working in a quote from “A Chorus Line”! A great musical.

      • Ah! You noticed! 🙂 I’ve had “Dance 10, Looks 3” in my head all day!

        • Of course I noticed, I’m such a broadway geek. I do a lot of performing of all that repertoire. Look at my website ellenciompi dot com for reviews, music clips, etc. PS: do you know that the original title of “Dance Ten, Looks Three” was “Tits & Ass”? The song was not going over well with the audience during previews of the show, and nobody could figure out why. Then finally someone realized it was because they were giving away the joke with the title. After they changed the title the audience reaction was the HUGE one the producers & Hamlisch had always anticipated…..go figure.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

OK, Zooey, Kristen, Annasophia, how about Kiernan Shipka or Hailee Steinfeld next?

  • msdamselfly

I like this a lot on her although the backdrop does detract

  • vickilu

    Taylor Swift in 3.. 2..

  • KateShouldBeWorking

At first I was going to jokingly say to put it on Helen Mirren but it’s actually not too far off what she’s been favoring lately.

  • Paula Pertile

Its like “tribal scrapbooking”, that dress.
I kind of actual like the shoes?

  • trisker

SO glad she cut her hair!! It’s plain, but at least it’s neat and out of her face. Signed, gramma

  • Florence Welch? Might she give this one a whirl?

    • Teresa M.

I thought the same thing. Make it floor-length though.

  • In_Stitches

Not a fan of this Mexican lederhosen getup at all. Next wearer? Vanessa Hudgens who will ask for matching netted tights with which to wear with it.

  • VicD

We’re going to see this on one of the Fanning sisters – or perhaps both of them!

  • alyce1213

Ugly ass dress on Zoey, but in her style, and worse on Kristen. What were they thinking?

  • Nika E

This the best I have ever seen her look. I say give Hailee Steinfield a crack at it.

  • ampg

Remove the sleeves and this suits her 1000 times better.

  • marlie

    O. M. G. I love this. Everything about it. Her haircut is cute as can be, and it’s POLISHED. The dress has a simple silhouette, and suits her because there’s enough going on that she doesn’t have to wear accessories (which she doesn’t seem to like). The shoes are fine (better than fine, actually, although I wish the lipstick wasn’t quite so matchy. BUT, kudos all around.

ETA: I also think she wore this better than Zooey.

  • MoreShoes

I know I shouldn’t judge, but these knees are awful.

  • Christine Hart

I hate to be ageist, but she’s too old for this. I think ladies over 25 are likely too old for this, unless they’re Twee.

  • Jeannie Shmina Greenwald

TLo, what? Girl, that’s not your dress. She looks ill-at-ease in the photos. Kristin Wiig is wonderful. Help her find her style, please, before it’s too late.

  • I don’t really think she has the presence to carry this dress.

  • KingCrazy

    I’m sorry, but that’s an ass-ugly dress, and I won’t pretend otherwise.

  • Tatiana Luján

I hate this on her. It’s too short and looks like Kiernan Shipka’s dress (it looks like it on Wiig, but many other women older than Shipka could pull this off).

  • Orange Girl

The back drop is fighting with the dress, unfortunately.

  • SophieCollier

Eesh, that is not her dress at all. I applaud wanting to wear something eye catching and colorful, but that just looks like a toddler’s dress. Something about Kirsten’s narrow face and limp hair just does not work with the overall look. Definitely pass this one down to a babystar.

  • crash1212

I hate that dress – on any age. I love those shoes. Love. Her hair is SO boring…seriously, Kristen hair-cutter? Are you blind? This is not flattering. I do so love Ms. Wiig, just not her fashion sense.

  • DagnyReardon

This is really picky but that uber white nail polish is not doing it for me.

  • RL McGruder

Actually, I could see Rashida Jones trying to pull this off.

    • Imasewsure

And also failing… me no likey

      • demidaemon

Yes, Rashida has a track record of trying difficult/inappropriate dresses (for her) and failing. If the dress did look good on her, she would probably botch it in the styling.

  • kat89

I was thinking Hailee Steinfeld would look great in it, but Annasophia might work too. As for Kristen Wiig, I’m not feeling it. Just another poor choice.

  • CPK1

oh those shoes are really dreadful. I am not sure about the dress and she doesn’t seem too convinced either

  • I usually love Valentino, but I hate that dress. And it’s way too young for her.

  • nannypoo

I don’t like the dress and she’s wearing too much makeup, but it’s an interesting dress and it’s makeup, so that’s something. And I like her hair.

  • E. D.

I love her hair and I don’t hate the shoes, but that dress is no good.

  • RedRaven617

Zooey is 33 yrs old and is borderline too old. I love Kristen, but. nope, not working for me. She does look way better than usual, the dress just seems a little too young for her.

  • ShaoLinKitten

On Kristen, this looks like a clown costume…

  • GillianHolroyd

Flat hair, clashing makeup, garish dress, skimpy skirt. You are so much better than this!!!

  • anotherkate

I’ve seen this dress twice and I’m already sick of it. I know it’s Valentiiiiiino, but that weird embroidery, no matter how hand-made and well done it is, just looks like grandma’s crocheting to me.

The fact that KW wore some color and pattern, though–THAT I’m on board with.

  • Ann VerWiebe

I’ll take the dress! Heck, I’ll wear it to work tomorrow!

  • andreawey

her face always says awkward and embarrassed, it’s hard to get beyond that……

  • ailujailuj

no. put it back in the “paper doll dresses from around the world” book. Then toss it into the garage sale “free with purchase” pile.

  • nycfan

Sadly, it looks a little clownish when paired with the dowdy hair. Thought the dress was uber-cute on Zooey.

  • demidaemon

I think this best shows that when Kristen give a shit about the project, she puts the effort in. When she doesn’t *cough*The Secret Life of Walter Mitty*cough*, she doesn’t.

  • Sam

I need this dress in my closet right now!!!!
