Kate Moss for Alexander McQueen Spring 2014 Ad Campaign

Posted on January 28, 2014

We’re not sure we could get away with calling this your “Pretty of the Day.” “Fierce of the Day,” maybe. And proof once more that Miss Kate can still work a lens, even when she’s asked to dress up like a Thor villain. Or maybe especially when she is. Either way, we’re digging it.

  • The doll thing is kind of disturbing. Otherwise, the superhero fan in me likes this spread.

    • StellaZafella

      Makes me want the doll…

      • Jackie4g

Yes, I would really like one of those dolls.

        • demidaemon

To each their own, I guess. You guys can have her.

    • demidaemon

      AGREE. Nightmare material for me.

  • JauntyJohn

This is the rough mock up of what they’re going to put Wonder Woman in when they make “Superman vs. Batman,” right?

It’s an obvious observation, I know, but wow, the WW factor is really in your face here (“Complete with Action Figure!”)

Happy Meal toy aside… Fierce indeed.

    • CelandineM

These looks are totally DC evil Amazon princess rather than Marvel Norse goddess. I would take any of these for a WW mockup over that awful new 52 costume. Comic book cotoure costumes by McQeen, I don’t know if I could handle the fierceness!!

      • barbarienne

My thoughts exactly. Imagine a WW movie (of her own! As everyone except Hollywood is clamoring for!) where the villain is a Bizzarro WW. If Kate Moss can act, I say give her the role right now.

  • Blair Sylvester

    The Hunger Games supermodel edition

  • hughman

The Neely O’Hara in me thinks Kate has probably had more than a few dolls over the years.

    • KinoEye

“I didn’t have dough handed to me because of my good cheekbones. I had to earn it!”

      • hughman

“Not like those fags you usually hang out with.”

        • KinoEye

“Sparkle, Neely, SPARKLE!” That movie is too much fun.

          • hughman

LOL. There is never a bad time to quote “Valley of the Dolls”!

          • Kent Roby

Quoting VOTD doesn’t always go over well at a funeral; trust me on this.

  • Latin Buddy

Although aesthetically, it’s a great ad…she doesn’t strike me as the “Princess warrior” the brand was aiming for.

  • 40 years old, ladies and gentlemen. Wish I could carry off a crocodile bra like that.

    • sagecreek

Me, too. I console myself by thinking of our depth and wisdom.

    • StellaZafella

I bet the crocodile’s not too happy about it…>:o)

    • You put on your crocodile bra and march yourself into work this morning like you’re as good as anybody! (Note: this advice will work better if you have enormous personal savings and ready access to Photoshop.)

  • sagecreek

Hee! I love the Kate doll.

  • LeelaST

    The photography/processing is killer.

    • AmeliaEve

I’m really trying to understand what that technique is. It’s fascinating and yet the end result is that she looks like a Sim. A very wealthy and soigné Sim, but still not quite 3-dimensional.

    • Nicholas

Reminds me of what Prada have been doing, except his one doesn’t look as much like a drug den.

  • Creepy of the Day, maybe.

    • charlotte

      Especially the fifth picture.

  • Deac82

I get dominatrix in a shitty motel on the bad side of town. I love it.

  • ballerinawithagun

I feel so much better about my mole now.

  • KT

    Thor meets Dorian Gray.

Also, giant breasts provided entirely by the magic of Photoshop.

Also also, that is one fierce forty-year-old. Work, bitch.

    • shirab

I was looking at her ample cleavage and thinking, “isn’t Kate Moss known for *not* having much in the way of breasts?” I imagine photoshop is less invasive than surgery, so let’s hope that’s the route they took.

      • KT

        • Corsetmaker

She has had more in recent times. More to do with not being as thin as she used to be I think. Maybe a couple of chicken fillets for help.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Who else could look so damn fierce while holding her own mini-me? WERQ it, girl, WERQ it.

  • SportifLateBoomer

WOW. Striking. She’s still got that ineffable something magical.

Any other Big Bang Theory fans reminded of the action figures Raj and Wolowitz created of themselves on the 3-D printer?

  • Miss wks

She is fucking amazing…oh yeah….so is McQueen.

    • MissAmynae

Yes, yes a thousand times yes.

  • YoungSally

    But would a real Thor superhero/villain really need a purse? A mini-me sure – there’s precedent for that…but not a purse.

  • another_laura

Way to sell the accessories, babe. I want that sleeveless leather jacket and those gold cuffs. And I don’t usually like that sort of thing.

    • Imasewsure

I think you will have to fight Rihanna for it so distract her with the cuffs and grab that jacket and run…

    • kimmeister

I love that jacket, or dress, whatever the heck it is.

  • Hayley

    Channeling Tilda.

  • MK03

I hope she got to keep the doll. And all the tiny couture for it.

  • ShaoLinKitten

    Fierce as hell.

  • monty

Everytime I see pics of Kate Moss I remember Marky Mark talking his mess about not finding her attractive. God I hate Marky Mark. And god I love this woman.

    • makeityourself

Now THAT is a MODEL. She has been doing this –and by “this” I mean creating hundreds of unforgettable images, each distinct from the last –for almost 25 years.

      She goes way beyond beautiful.

  • Lilah

Wow. How much do I want that leather vest with the red and black stripped neck? A. Lot. The doll is killer.

  • dash1211

    Man. Those shoes are to.die.for.

  • DaringMiss

I think that the ringed effect of the zipper detail on the neck of the sleeveless jacket is truly inspired. Very African tribal but utterly modern. By repeating the design at the bottom of the jacket, I think McQueen avoids some cultural appropriation issues.

  • Beth Kensinger

It reminds me of the Project Runway challenge where they had to make matching outfits for the model and a Barbie doll…

  • Is anyone else reminded of Jillian’s licorice/twizzler outfit from the candy challenge?

  • marlie

I don’t love it, but it IS fierce. But the doll is creepy.

    • Kathy

There is atmosphere and more than a little fierceness in these pics, and I agree about the doll. Just to make it even creepier, in pics 3 and 4, there are pins stuck in it.

      • marlie

I know! I started to wonder why she had voodoo dolls of herself, but I though I’d hurt my brain trying to figure it out.

        • Kathy

Yes. I keep wondering why she’d stick pins in a doll that’s in her own image. If I had a doll in my own image, I’d probably put it in a bubble bath. IOW, I’d pamper it. 🙂

          • Corsetmaker

Maybe she’s just discovered it in the evil villain’s lair 🙂

  • majorbedhead

Damn. I thought she was going to take a meat cleaver to the doll’s head. I’m disappointed.

  • Leah Elzinga

omg, I love her SO MUCH.

  • Laylalola

The doll is her posing and photoshopped in. Has to be.

  • Nimith

    Xena Warrior Blow-Up Doll.

  • Alex Palombo

She looks like she has the Cynthia doll from Rugrats on her shoulder.

  • Glam Dixie

I WANT that black and red bag. Give Us The Preciousss!

  • Slowfish57

Every female Warrior needs a purse that can be used as a deadly weapon.

  • GiraffeCat

Her ankle looks broken in that last shot.

  • MilaXX

Allow me to drool over that red/blue bag.

    • PastryGoddess

I’ll let you borrow my switchblade, just in case

  • SierraDelta

In the last picture, her right ankle looks seriously deformed.

  • Garcia Loca

La Moss is giving me 50 Shades of SWINTON.

  • mmebam

She does not like her right side, does she?

  • kimmeister

Is that pleated leather? I didn’t think that was even possible!

  • Gatto Nero

The doll appears to be wearing a bumster skirt in shot 2. Nice.
    Kate is otherworldly here.

  • bertkeeter

    Says SPRING to me! Not!

    • Corsetmaker

Tell you what, we’ll stick a daffodil behind her ear and applique an easter bunny on her arse. Will that do it!

      • bertkeeter

I was thinking more like “tulips on an organ”!

  • Qitkat

I guess if ‘Robot Chic’ is your thing, this works. Not for me, but that is a killer handbag.

  • hotpaprika

I haven’t seen a single photo of Miss Kate with her mouth fully shut. I expect more than one expression from one of the original super-models, so for this fact alone she annoys me to no end, even when she looks as fierce as in these photos.

  • NinjaCate

LOVE THE HAIR. Very Tilda Swinton vibe to it.

  • Corsetmaker

There’s a bit of Fifth Element about it too. Very cool. And like most people, I love that leather jerkin/waistcoat/sleeveless jacket.

  • Claudia Fernandes

i never understood the hype around moss, but here I think she is amazing

  • DeTrop

This is a pleasant diversion. The handbag is fab.

  • Kimmu

While this screams Wonder Woman by way of high fashion to me more than anything Thor related, jfc how awesome would a McQueen wearing Amora the Enchantress be? My dream casting for her is Charlize Theron.

  • Nicole Little

    That face!

  • Sara Brams-Miller

    I want that purse.

  • Kimberly Wilcox

clearly I NEED that jacket….and those shoes.

  • Diego!

Airbrushed Fierceness. She looks amazing, but the PS filters are killing my eyes! In some pics she looks as if she was drawn.

    • Kimberly Wilcox

I noticed that too. seemed like the “Beowulf” effect. (anyone remember that movie? it existed for like 3 whole seconds). I felt it an odd choice for this photo shoot. makes her skin look a bit gold, matches the bangles.

      • Diego!

I remember watching Beowulf at the movie theater. I enjoyed it (?) 😛 And I agree with what you say, it’s an odd choice indeed.

      • Laura Renee

Are you kidding? I saw the Beowulf movie in a Norse Myth college class and it will live FOREVER in my heart. There was a split reaction in the class — those who were more serious about Old English lit hated it, and those who took it less seriously (like me) found it uproariously funny and a priceless treasure.

  • ConnieBV

It says something about Tilda that they are using her face as Superhero Face.

  • Badriya Al-Badi’a

She looks like a Farscape character. I do not say that like it’s a bad thing!

  • rage_on_the_page

Giving face with half her face obscured by sunglasses and a collar. WERQ.

  • lifeisastory

I have never understood this woman’s appeal. Even less so, now. There’s nothing attractive about this, and that doll is damn creepy.

And I bet zipper girl from styled to rock is ready to chew nails right now.

  • crash1212

Kate is perfection. I love this layout.

  • Rhonda Shore

Kate’s so amazing. Love the doll.

  • Fred Vaughn

  • ScarlettHarlot

Creepy doll aside, I really like this. It’s different, and I love the pops of primary colors. Also, I’ve been on a Spartacus series kick lately, so I might be a bit more into this for it’s gladiatrix aspect than I would normally be.

  • mickiemonkey

Oh things are not going to go well for that doll…you know she is going to chop it up and eat it next.

  • mjude

    I want the doll

  • guest2visits

Vivid photography – makes you want to see the next frame to see what happens! Space alien making fashion out of materials she finds in a earthly hotel room.

  • Shawn EH

Hello Wonder Woman! Or any other goddess!

  • Lizzy

    What is she selling?

  • quiltrx

They should auction those dolls for charity. Neat idea for a photo shoot…nothing ups the creep factor (which is obviously being gone for here) like a doll.

  • Kim Elmore

  • allcapsERINN

  • Lilyana_F

The more I look, the more I like. And guuurl, that bone structure!

  • Erica_Vuitton

Ok that leather bustier is just stupid. Seriously? How many people do you think are going to wear that in real life to the point where it merits being featured in 1/2 of the advertising shots for the collection? I don’t get it.

  • joything

OK, the leather vest with the collar that looks like an African tribal woman’s. Want that.

  • Dear lord, this shit is fierce!
