If you visually break down the pieces…they’re still clown clothes.

  • PostsYouCanDanceTo

I didn’t realize I was missing a giant turquoise/orange scarf from my life, but here we are.

Also, shoes. ESPECIALLY the brown-with-a-hint-of-gold/deep mustard ones. If y’all don’t like ’em: good. More for me.

    • Imasewsure

You wear them and I’ll just admire them… I liked a lot of this but especially the shoes!!

    • That scarf’s the best part, and I want it too!

      • Ramon Figueroa

That first scarf (the seventh picture) is pure Tom Baker in Doctor Who.

    • Ginny Ellsworth

Trying to get a better look but I bet you can knit it or bribe a friend to do so.

  • April Goff

    My eyes! Oh they burn.

  • Sarah

Some nice jackets and shoes in there. I like the idea of colors for fellows, but I have to say the shoot was ill-conceived with the busy clothes AND the colored cords all over the floor.

    • Anna

Designer-clad roadies for the Bruno Mars “Treasure” video?

      • Sarah

Ha, they are in a roadie-like setting. But roadies are ruf-n-tuf, not slim-n-stylin’. I think….

        • KinoEye

Oh, so they’re fashionable roadies? I was trying to figure out the concept of this shoot. My take was that they’re in a recording studio to record… something, I dunno. They have no instruments, so I suppose they’re a cappella?

  • Nicholas

    I wanna be sedated.

    No, seriously.

  • Glam Dixie

Perhaps the men in far off places dress differently from the men I know.

    • mila_8

My first thought: exchange student chic. At least from my experience in the 80s.

  • Vickiefantastico

There might be some good pieces in there, but most of it just looks ugly the way they’ve styled it.

  • This is just a Shoreditch street-style post.

  • Imasewsure

I liked everything with little checks and primary colors… dunno… none of the men I know would wear any of it either but then again, I hang with slackers and jocks (well, and also lawyers and business execs, etc)

  • MilaXX

I like the clothing but the makeup on these models is pitiful.

  • deelup

I kind of love everything, just not all together.

    • homofascist

You’re never going to get me on board with shiny pleated pants, but I kinda love everything too. The pieces are wearable and fun – they would be such ‘compliment getters’ I have little doubt. And I would wear the second look (third photo – white jacket and model with crossed legs) from head to toe no question. Those shoes!

  • mjude

i am loving the man shoe. Millaxx?

    • MilaXX

Yup, I’d wear those shoes in a heartbeat

    • Ginny Ellsworth

Can I get them in my size? And can I afford them??

  • Danielle

Did anyone else think the second picture was Tom Hardy for like a hot second?!

  • Shawn EH

Kind of a mod, ska two-tone vibe, a little.

    • Anna

I got that too. Some of the styling is Madness though.

    • Corsetmaker

Definitely. Lots of mod stuff there!

  • Eric Stott

Some great pieces, but I don’t like the Eurotrash styling.

  • KinoEye

So, it’s a photoshoot in a recording studio, and not one of them has instruments that I can see. I guess their direction boiled down to, “You’re sitting in a recording studio, for no discernable reason other than to stare off into the distance, sometimes at the camera, and look garish. So just do that. In every photo.”

  • CLoverleaf

    Cosby sweaters!

  • a_liking

oh, I quite like these. I wish the young men I knew dressed in clothes like this. the suit is especially charming.

  • Carl Boyd

I like the saturated colors, but some of this stuff is agressively ugly.

  • Standing on extension cords is highly dangerous!!! Clean it up!

(That’s a leftover form my theatre job days, sorry.)

  • Therese Bohn

I thought the wet head was dead! (Who remembers that commercial from the 70’s?) I like the Dr. Who-ish scarves and the burgundy jacket

  • Well at least they really went for it. I have never liked the diamond checkerboard pattern on clothing (I’m open to it working, I just haven’t seen it). That pale pink jacket is from out of nowhere. I hate the micro-check(?)/micro-whatever pattern is on those pants. I do, however, really like pairing darker colors like burgundy and 70s fridge mustard with brighter colors. So those looks work for me in terms of color palette even if I don’t like the actual shape of type of the clothes. If they were going to be so adventurous with all the colors in the collection anyway then why settle with boring black for the shoes? They’re cool either way I guess.

That teal and orange scarf is giving me life.

  • Frank_821

I actually enjoy this photoshoot. They went for a look and for the most part achieved it effectively. The clothes are wearable and sell-able. In the real world of course they would be in combinations that are more toned down but we’re not getting the tackiness of the Diorshow or the twisted theatrics of Thom browne

    • demidaemon

I definitely agree with you. The way they presented it, though, isn’t very conducive to selling the clothes, I think, because you have to put a lot of mental effort to break down all the pieces and figure out what would work/not work for a person’s wardrobe. That said, in a boutique, it would probably be much easier to figure this part out. As an editorial (I guess that’s what it is?), it fails.

  • decepticonner

This is so much fun. I would wear everything. Some would be closer to laundry day, but I’d still sport it. It may help that I’m not tall nor short and in decent shape. I could see it being a bit overwhelming for some other body types, maybe.

  • Something different! I love. The styling, the photos, and the clothes. Very fun. Yes, some do look a bit clowny but I love the color.

  • NCHresident

Did he design the Norwegian Olympics team costumes, too?

  • Lilah

He is such a master at combining prints. Love the second look and I want all the shoes

  • shopgirl716

Really like it. First mens collection I’ve seen this season that I’ve liked.

  • understateddiva

Love it! I can’t see anybody in the entire ensembles, but I can see pieces popping up in a lot of wardrobes. The shoe style is nothing all that new but I love them – a guy could have a completely average outfit on, and they would put an exclamation point on it.

    • conniemd

Yeah, agree with this. A lot of the individual pieces are fab and colorful while still being within menswear “norm.” They all also would look fine on women, too.

  • Corsetmaker

Mr Saunders you’ve been digging out your early 80s Smash Hit annuals haven’t you? Particularly The Jam and Style Council photo spreads 😀
Burgundy sta prest! Paul Weller will be getting his order in soon.

  • William Thill

    Chess King.

    • Linderella

You say that like it’s a bad thing!

  • TTotaler

Yeeesss, the shoes! And also the black & white suit! I’m too short for pleated, baggy, wide-legged pants to come back.

  • quiltrx

Those shoes are THE SHIT–I love them!! And the jackets/coats are fabulous. I enjoyed the 80s 🙂

  • marlie

I don’t know any men who could pull off any of these items, but I – and a lot of other ladies – could.

    • Linderella

Oh, honey, I could. And I’m not a young man, either. It’s all about attitude and confidence, baby.

  • Abdullah

    Very interesting patterns

  • sleepycat

Yes please. LOVE this collection. It is high end hipster. I would love to be as fabulous as these guys, but sweats and jeans are just too comfortable. (Although I have nice shoes)

  • Lyndsey Magrone

It’s like the cast of the Jersey Boys met the cast of Pippin for a West Side Story Sharks vs. Jets showdown.

  • Linderella

Love it all. I would wear every single piece in this. And I would rock the shit out of every last pair of those shoes, you’d best believe it.
Want the blue sweater with the yellow and black racing stripes so bad I’m dying.

  • aglorios

OMG. Yes. I may stand alone but I love this collection.

  • demidaemon

I can’t with the gold pants. Any version of them. Some of this could be wearable, but it needs heavy restyling.

    • Anna

The drawstring pants bug the hell outta me, especially the contrast waist. And are they satin? I stared at them for quite awhile trying to decide if they remind me of pyjamas or some kind of boxing/martial arts pant hybrid. Either way, NO.

  • Wow… FAB!

  • Diego!

Geometric shapes prints + Strips + Color = Big Win! I want EVERYTHING! 😀

  • Patrick Cleary

I love all of this. The colors are fantastic. I’m sure if it wasn’t paired up in such eye-popping ways, it’d be kind of nice sweaters and too-loud pants, but men wearing color is always going to make me happy.

  • formerlyAnon

At first glance I was horrified, but then realized there are some nice pieces in here. (None of them are sweaters.) I like several of the long coats/jackets a couple of the shorter jackets. Photos: 2, 3, 11, 13, and 17.

  • boweryboy

When removed from the questionable editorial styling, and broken down into separates there’s a lot of fun, wearable pieces. A lot of it is borderline costumey but I love the shoes and all the variations of the polka dot pants.

  • Ann VerWiebe

I have a pair of those gold pants for my Ken doll from Barbie and the Rockers.
