Jessica Alba in Blumarine on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon”

Posted on January 22, 2014

This is about as coordinated as a look can get, but it really works.

Jessica Alba makes an appearance on the “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” show in New York City in a Blumarine dress paired with Casadei heels.

Blumarine Spring 2014 Collection

It could’ve looked too business-like or too lady-who-lunches, but the black and white combo keeps it low-key chic and the polka dots and butterflies give it an unexpected whimsy. Plus it helps that it suits and fits her perfectly. Her bod looks pretty amazing in it. If there’s a point at which it might be going a little far, it’s in the shoes. We think a pop of color would’ve thrown this look off, so staying within the theme was the right idea. But we think we’d have picked either black or white. We’re looking at polka dots, a butterfly floral and stripes, all in the same relatively simple look. A solid shoe (or a shoe predominantly one color) would’ve provided some balance, we think.

  • Personal best. And she knows she looks good, which makes it even better!

  • Sobaika

The lining under the blouse should’ve been closer to her skintone, but that is my only quibble.

Even still, I can’t help it. Something about her makes everything seem dull as dishwater.

    • MilaXX

      Her lack of personality?

    • manina

Why is she famous, or a celebrity? Besides the Fantastic Four, has she done anything else?

      • Madam Von Sassypants

That’s one of those questions you ask Google.

        • manina

Yeah, I guess, but not while I am reading TLo, the BK’s are faster.

      • Cheryl Jenkins

        Sin City

        • Erica

I just imdb’d her. 4 films coming out in 2014, including a new Sin City, Bruce Willis and all. Who knew?

      • Jessica Freeman

The Uncles had a great post with her about why she was famous (Basically to be pretty and hock goods) and I wished I remember which one it was.

ETA: She also is owner? of The Honest Company, or some natural hygiene line.

        • manina

So like, three movies and a hygiene product. I thought she had done more, she’s everywhere.

          • Heather

“Hygiene product” sounds like a euphemism for maxi pads. “I have my own maxi pad line!”

        • marlie

I think the Honest Company is a fairly new endeavor. When the acting career seems to slow down, just create a line of specialty products!

      • Leo Incredible

I’ll always have a soft spot for her because of Dark Angel.

        • Alloy Jane

Yup, that’s why I love her. And her line has to do with eco-conscious baby goods. I know this because I read my sister’s mommy magazines in the bathroom :-p

And you people never saw Honey? Or the one where she loves penguins?

Also I love the outfit and do not hate the shoes.

      • Frank_821

She actually came first to prominence with an acclaimed sci-fi show on Fox called Dark Angel

        • fursa_saida

I love that show to death. She’s nothing special in it, but all the supporting characters are just incredible, and I’m a sucker for dystopias.

    • Jessica Freeman

For that reason, I wished she would have gone with a black lining all together.

  • fiddlecub

I dislike that top immensely. I am reminded of how the PR judges reacted to Emmet’s ice-dancing dress: it’s both dowdy and weirdly vulgar.

    • mshesterp

I’m with ya–I feel like the top is showing her nipple-less, and I don’t like it (even though it’s not her skin tone, it’s more my skin tone, it’s just weird).

  • pookiesmom

I like the shoes. I think the busy-ness of the shoes balances the pattern of the top.

  • Camille Chapman

I looks like she has sock marks from wearing sneakers to the theater!!

    • filmcricket

That actually makes me like her a little more.

      • CLoverleaf

My thoughts exactly. Stars are human after all!

    • EveEve

Given the arctic conditions in NYC yesterday, it might have been boots. She bores the crap outta me, and this look doesn’t change my mind about her. twee to the third power.

  • MilaXX

I like it even with the striped shoe. My first impression when she walked out was about how cute the outfit was. When she was able to comfortably sit down with minimal adjusting it was deemed a perfect chat show look in my book.

    • sagecreek

God, yes, why don’t more stars avoid the whole miniskirt problem?

    • Glam Dixie

She is on my irrational hate list, but I love it, shoes and all. The way the model is wearing it is interesting, to say the least.

  • sagecreek

So cute! But…not very January-ish, no?

    • Imasewsure

It’s appropriate for January in LA…

  • @Biting Panda

I don’t like how the top makes it appear as if her boobs are past her elbows and a mile apart. Feeling pretty ambivalent about the skirt.
Why was she on Fallon? To discuss the latest envelope opening she attended?

    • Anna

Totally, that top is making a mess of her boobs. I liked the outfit at first glance and then when I scrolled back to the first picture, I noticed it. I’m annoyed with her now for having me take time out of my day to look at her chest.

  • Janet B

A spectator pump would have complimented this outfit nicely.

I can not get on board with Spring in January, on TV or in real life.

  • Introspective

in spite of the quibbles, she looks pretty here. a be me look with some do me infusions.

shoes are cute. even if they look like they are hell to wear. agree w/sobaika that she’s just dull & irrelevant. but she does play the role of largely unemployed but cute starlet very well.

  • gabbilevy

Coveting those shoes, which I will wear in the spring, once Jessica is done with them and it’s more weather appropriate.

The blouse looks kind of strange, but the whole outfit comes together really well. I kinda love this.

  • Imasewsure

I like the model’s shoes better with it but it’s still cute. I also like the extra flowers on the model’s version (but not her boobs, thank you very much)

  • Victoria Anzalone

The shoes are definitely a bridge too far, but they are to die for!

  • Danielle

  • ShaoLinKitten

Ooooh, but the shoes are so covet-worthy that I forgive her! Love this look.

  • Emily Giovanni

Eliminating the errant nipple just ruins the whole look.*

*Just kidding! I think she looks great.

  • Can’t hate. She looks fantastic and even manages to keep the extreme matchy-ness from going twee. Well done.

  • Violentcello

I don’t know. I think an orange or coral shoe would have been just the thing. Love the outfit though.

  • kim bunchalastnames

i love it from top to bottom, shoes and all.

  • Jessica Freeman

It seems there is more print on the backside of the skirt, which I would have preferred to see more of. It’s a great look.

  • Adrianna Grężak

This look affirms that a pencil skirt is a must in your wardrobe.

  • ailujailuj

I like the model’s shoes and skirt better – and the fit on the model better. riding a little too high on miss J. but she is too likable to care much. she lit up when talking about jimmy’s little girl – too cute.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Jessica Alba? Is she still a thing?

  • nowlo

Very pretty outfit, though I wish the print on Jessica’s skirt were positioned the same way it is on the model’s skirt. At first glance, the two little butterflies near the hem look out of place.

    • conniemd

Did she turn the skirt around to wear it backwards? The model’s skirt has no darts in the front (which would have killed the butterfly design). JA’s skirt has darts in the front.

  • A nip slip like model would have really taken the look away from business casual!

    • SierraDelta

I guess that depends on what your business is…

  • SewingSiren

Or too “Summery”, which it does.

  • LipstickForPigs

    I so want those shoes.

  • I love the look. Especially that you can see her sock marks from coming in from the outside.

  • mdcoon127

LIke it just the way it is…

  • Cheryl

I find it kind of summery, but that doesn’t bother me. I do like that she chose to have the top part lined.

  • MrsKrause

Personally, I think it is the shoes that keep it from being ladies-who-lunch to hot-bitches-who-eat-whenever-they-damn-well-please.

    • SugarSnap108

I agree. And I want those hot-bitches-etc. shoes.

  • Poeta Paz

I love the shoes! Don’t take them away!!!

  • DeniseSchipani

Are those sock wrinkles on her ankles? If so, good for her for not attempting to walk any further than from the green room to the couch in those heels!

  • KT

But those shoes are so killa that I don’t even mind.

  • ashtangajunkie

I love this dress. LOVE. She looks fantastic here, and she’s not usually someone for whom I get all excited. That’s the power of this dress.

  • understateddiva

I agree with TLo on the combination of skirt and shoes, but those shoes are Fee-uhs!

  • Lee Lee Sobiewski’s shoes would have been perfect…

  • CeeRich

Love this outfit and you’re right….the shoes should go. Send them to me!

  • MzzPants

    Sit up straight, dumb ass.

  • wisdomy

I totally see what you’re saying about the shoes, but they’re so fabulous I can’t be mad at her. Also, I’m amused that she clearly changed into them after wearing her tube socks and uggs to the studio.

    • LadyLuck777

I saw the mush marks from her socks and thought the same thing!

  • elemspbee

Love it all, esp the shoes.

  • quiltrx

I think the shoes are awesome, and a great choice for a sit-down. This all looks really summery, but I like it anyway.

  • marlie

I like the whole outfit (and thank goodness Jessica had her blouse lined), but I LOVE the shoes.

  • Haley Buchanan

Am I the only one that doesn’t like this at all? The overall look is very “secretary” to me, the lining of the blouse is the incorrect color for either the fabric or her skin tone, and butterflies shouldn’t be worn by anyone over 8-years-old unless it’s in larger-than-life McQueen fashion. The look does absolutely nothing for me.

  • Diego!

This is a WERQ from head to toe. She looks amazing! Incredible shoes, they are superb! Fabulous Blumarine attire and greatr hair and make up! You rock that sit Miss Alba!

  • Julie Parr

  • carnush

I agree about the shoes…a little much.

  • luludexter

love this. those shoes are to die for.

  • boweryboy

At first glance it looks nice. Upon further inspection, the runway version of the skirt has more visual interest, and Jessica’s version has a much too high waist. Plus, those shoes are hideous.

  • Damn, girl! Those are some Sarah-Connor-quality guns. I like the look, but it feels a little more ladies-who-lunch thank talk-show-guest to me. At least all her bits are covered! She can drop her shoes at my house when she leaves.

  • melanie0866

I respectfully disagree. I think the high-waisted skirt and the low-cut top make it look like her breasts are resting on the waistband. Like “Maxine” from the greeting cards.

  • allcapsERINN

    This is fabulous!

  • theblondette

I like it a lot! I don’t think the gold bracelet and watch and silver necklaces are really working with it, though.

Actually are the necklaces gold? They look different in different shots… *peers*
