    Dita!!! *love*

I’m kind of enjoying this on the whole just for the fun of it.

    • Kent Roby

      Ditto on Dita!

    • ballerinawithagun

Love that man! And Dita. Never a dull moment. No to the granny panties, the fabrics were gorgeous when they were line. Now Lupita can have butterflies anywhere she chooses and even become a butterfly!

  • Monabel

Throw everything at the wall, and see what sticks!
    On the other hand, Dita!

    • MilaXX

It reads more cohesive than the Valentino collection

      • ballerinawithagun

      • Lower L

It also contains pretty things, so it’s ahead of the Dior collection, too.

  • TDSE

Fun! I can’t hate Gaultier, he just seems to love what he does. Truly.

    • marlie

We expect him to bring the crazy, and he manages to do it with style.

    • StellaZafella

I scrolled through this collection thinking “I like this woman…she’s nasty and she’s a lady.”…and then Dita came up and it was all over …LOVE!

    • CelandineM

My smile got bigger with every look. That must have been one hell of a fun show.

  • ModernDowager

All the Whos down in Whoville are gonna LOVE some of those hats

    • Call me a Who, then, and hand over the hats!

      • ModernDowager

  • BayTampaBay

I like it much better than the Valentino couture collection.

    • Anna

Me too. That one was just confusing.

  • PlethoraofBooks

    Butterfly, fly away!

Some are fun, but whoever didn’t think that the white dress with red netting wasn’t going to come across as a tampon exploding with menstruation was smoking somethin’!

    • Ginger

      Oh wow…uh thanks?! Now I can’t unsee. :'(

    • bitchybitchybitchy

That explosion of tulle on that dress reminded me of a mesh veggie bag that mated with a scrubbie.

  • Anna

Is it wrong that I kind of love the bedazzled denim vest and the motocross mermaid gown precisely because of how wrong those things should be? This one’s a lot of fun and Dita is doin’ her thang on the runway.

    • PostsYouCanDanceTo

Absolutely not! I love those things too!

      This whole collection is great.

      • Anna

The more I look at it, the more I love it. Especially the dress in the 6th last photo. I don’t know who could pull that off but I’d love to see Goddess Lupita and High Priestess Fan Bingbing give it a try.

        • MilaXX

I want to see Janel Monae in that white top/black pant combo on the second row of thumbnails.

          • Anna

            Sooo Janelle Monae.

          • Megan Kennedy

Yes! At first I was thinking Gwen, but Janelle would make it elegant.

        • I want to see Lupita in the dress you mention, plus the dress in the 10th photo – both dresses the colours would be amazing with her stunning skin. 🙂

          • Anna

Yes, that one would also be perfect for her 🙂

    • Constant Reader

I loved that vestt and the 7th look from the bottom (not sure if that’s the other one you meant). But the sheer-over-granny-panties and clear plastic shoe trends must die.

    • Alloy Jane

I love the denim vest too.

  • Sarah

Um, I don’t want to alarm you ladies, but some bugs seem to be attacking your heads.

  • MoHub

No one does conceptual like Gaultier!

  • @Biting Panda

Shut up! I love it. Okay, not all of it, butterflies are for teens and “Illuminati” images, but mostly all of it. How fun!

    • kimmeister

“FUN!” was my gut reaction as well.

    • demidaemon

I’m with you. For some reason, I unabashedly love all of this, despite having certain things I should hate, like see through and dresses over granny panties. But I still love it!

  • blogless

Ooh I really want that blue dress with the cape. (5th one down).

It would make SUCH a statement at the market this afternoon.

    • Pennymac

Its Periwinkle on my monitor. One of the best colors evah!

  • Sarah

Clear toe lace up ankle WHAT? I despise that shoe. Hard.Core.Hate.

    • marlie

      Ooohhhh… those are awful.

  • zenobar

When what you need is Pure Batshit Extract, Gaultier is your man.

  • sagecreek

Princess Beatrice is going to love all those fascinators.

    • Imasewsure

The hats were fantastic – fanciful without being totally unrelated to the clothes like most of the shows we’ve judged lately

  • VioletFem

I love it! This collection looks so exuberant. I especially love the 2 orange outfits (9 and 10).

ETA: Model number 3 looks a lot like Cate Blanchett.

    • Sarah

Model number 3 looks like she would cut Cate in a smoky cabaret fight.

  • theblondette

Never change, Jean Paul, never change.

  • SewingSiren

Some beautiful couture pieces mixed with pure costume. The color combinations aren’t sophisticated , but I love them . And the beading. I wish the whole collection was more in the vein of #12 with maybe just one or two literal butterflies or unicorns.

  • MilaXX

PRETTY! Okay maybe not the red netting, and a few of the butterfly pieces are a bit too literal, but overall this collection is gorgeous.

  • ralish

    Drag through the decades.

  • hughman

I find it to be an interesting homàge to Alexander McQueen. McQueen did his whole infamous insect collection (and the resulting shoes that rocked the world) and the butterflies around the head are a direct descendant of McQueen’s show for Isabella Blow. But while McQueen was all analytical and precise, Gaultier adds a bit of whimsy and joy that was not in the other designer’s work. This isn’t Gaultier’s most original, but it’s feminine and def. toungue in chic.

    • SewingSiren

I think Gaultier is much more influenced by Elsa Schiaparelli, McQueen was too for that matter.

      • hughman

I don’t disagree but “influence” and homage are two different things. I just couldn’t look at the butterfly headwear and not immediately think of McQueen.

    • Were they the Philip Treacy butterfly hats?

I love this collection. Brilliant colour, draping & whimsy hiding behind the cray cray.

      • SewingSiren

Yes. Philip Treacy designed the hats for McQueen’s 2008 show.

      • formerlyAnon

l like it more the more i look at it. Though I think it’s because my eye is training itself to gloss quickly over the things I dislike.

  • Imasewsure

I thought that butterfly dress was stupid until I saw it on Dita and it sings!! Some of this is great too and some just not working (maybe like more things… it needs more Dita!)

  • ailujailuj

Now THAT was fun! Go Dita!!!!
And I love the lovely broad with the slimline —–

  • unbornfawn

Is everyone simply designing for Lady Gaga this season?

    • Vainte

Gaga will have to get past Katy Perry for a few of these.

The whole collection just made me smile, no need to always be in reality.

  • Ashleigh

    I N C R E D I B L E
So much better than anything you’ve posted yet.

  • Ashleigh

The red mesh shirt with white top and gloves is genius, the sleeveless jean jacket with satin skirt worked SO WELL…I love this collection.

  • Jennifer Bober

Okay, is anyone else having flashbacks to the PR butterfly house, avante-garde challenge?

  • Belvane

    DVT FTW.

  • Blair Sylvester

I love this. Some of this is beautiful and some of it is just crazy and fun. all of it feels totally true to who he is

  • Laura Renee

Well, this is fun! All runway collections should be this fun.

  • marlie

When you break it apart, there are a couple of interesting pieces that could work on the runway. But the rest is “for Gaga only.”

    Also, Dita looks gorgeous.

  • MoreShoes

It’s definitely Gaultier. He took some of his old looks and reused them. In any case, I prefer this collection over the Valentino and Dior.

  • VicD

Gaultier is always crazytown, but I am loving the butterflies, and then … DITA! She looks fantastic – as if that wasn’t a foregone conclusion.

  • Madam Von Sassypants

That purple number was made for HBC.

  • I can’t help it, I love it. But I wonder if this foretells a lot (more) toe gripping on the RC soon.

    • Joanna

This takes the “naked sandal” to a whole new level! You pretty much need to have perfect feet to wear those shoes well.

  • crash1212

I love this collection. I love the styling. I want an exceedingly tall feather head adornment in my life soonest. Also: I hope they had a fainting couch near the end of the runway for Miss Dita to collapse upon because how can one breath properly with the miniscule waist?

    • Corsetmaker

She performs all the time with that miniscule waist. 🙂

      • crash1212

I know…and isn’t it amazing? She’s amazing! And that corset is a work of art.

        • Corsetmaker

There’s a wonderful pic on her facebook page of Mr Pearl lacing her into it for the show.

  • Tatiana Luján

This is sheer fun! I really like #14, 21 and 23.
I also like that the models seem to have an athletic build, rather than bony, they look healthy.

  • Kent Roby

I’m so excited to see these images from the upcoming Drag Race, along with the picture of guest judge Dita!

  • mjude

so fun & miss dita to boot.

  • SierraDelta

Well, now I know what I’ll be wearing at Westminster Abbey for my upcoming nuptials to Prince Harry.

Do you think I can get Cathy Cambridge into one of these for my Matron of Honour?

  • filmcricket

I love how a few of the models are giving serious sass-face. I almost never notice the models, they’re all walking clothes hangers to me, but these ones seem to be having fun. Love the butterflies – and Miss Dita, of course.

  • kayleymaybe

Man, too bad this came out after “Catching Fire” – some of these are perfect Effie outfits.

    • raeb23

Maybe we’ll see them in Mockingjay

  • Synnamin

This is a breath of fresh air. LOVE that Dita’s modeling!

  • another_laura

I keep coming back to this. It’s so much fun, so much color, so much craziness!

  • RussellH88

This is some drag couture in the best way possible.

  • sleepycat

No, just no. Dita is fabulous but she must of had some ribs removed to fit into that corset.

    • Corsetmaker

Not at all. She’s a regular corset wearer and petite to start with. A properly made corset cinches the waist down easily.

      • sleepycat

        oh! My mistake then!

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Beautiful colorful crazy. I love it and for some reason I wish I had a cigarette.

  • Dany

Not all fashion needs to be wearable. Not all fashion needs to be created for the masses.
Some fashion is just fun. Some fashion is just art.

Brava, JPG, for keeping your spirit and your integrity throughout the ages.

  • Carleenml

I’m starting to feel really bad about every project runway disaster I laughed at. I guess they knew what they were doing after all!

  • CKMia

    So… everything then, yeah?

  • kimmeister

The general exuberance of the colors and the fantastical elements actually made me think of China Fashion Week, which I always love.

  • Trickytrisha

I was all “Hey, I don’t hate these as much as usual” then “yes I do… oh that’s nice… gah, ugh… butterfly puke… OOOOH, gorgeous!… blah.” And so forth. Very mixed bag for me.

  • SugarSnap108

It’s certainly exuberant (said in Tim Gunn voice). The last one is very Miss-Universe-gets-married.

  • Corsetmaker

Always a highlight for me, especially as you can pretty much guarantee some corsets. Not my favourite collection of his, but some things I love. That shade of blue. And I really, really want someone to wear that biker mermaid gown on the red carpet!

  • anotherkate

How exuberant! Also: Dita! It’s all pretty theatrical and even goofy at times, but I’m looking forward to seeing some of these reimagined on the RC.

  • Susan Velazquez

I saw an exhibit of his at the Dallas Museum of Art and I loved it. He definitely has fun with his fashion. I wish i could get away with wearing some of it in real life.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Love ;seeing Dita on the runway. As for the red mesh skirt with a tulle scrubbie at the hem, WTF?

  • somebody blonde

You know, this collection looks so much better after having seen the Chanel and Dior ones from this week. And I’m not normally inclined to Gaultier’s aesthetic. It’s very strange.

  • Lower L

I kind of love #18, and I don’t know why.

  • YoungSally

    I know Dita is a “tight-lacer” but duh-AMN

  • AlisonS

Drag Queen clothes. Fabulous Drag Queen clothes!

  • Pennymac

FINALLY! A Spring collection that actually works! And other designers take note: THIS is how you artistically style. Weird, feathery hats, yes. But artistically important in that they add to the sum, they don’t distract from it. I’m disappointed the Beloved Uncles White Boarded this one. I would have liked to hear their comments.

  • unpious

Was the soundtrack to the show a dubstep remix of Santino singing “Lighten up it’s just faaaaashion”? Because if it wasn’t, it needs to be.

  • formerlyAnon

Well, there’s STYLE to burn, here. Unfortunately there’s also a definite aura of 1986. Or maybe ’87. This was like bouncing off bumpers in an old style pinball machine – things I loved! hated! loved-kinda-except-for-!!- loved! loathed! wondered about! – etc, etc, kept smacking me in the face. I’ll be looking back at it more than once, though, that’s for sure!

  • demidaemon

I kind of love all of this, especially how draggy it is.

  • Melanie

i was trying to decide what to pinterest & just couldn’t, because it is all SO FABULOUS. dying!

  • quiltrx

Don’t you just LOVE JPG??? Even if you don’t love a particular look, he ALWAYS gives you something interesting to look at in each one. Whatever that repeated-geometric overlay stuff is, I absolutely love it, and it’s deployed very well in different looks. I think the blue sheath gown with that black overlay and butterfly bolero is my favorite look. I love the whole color palette, it’s so happy and fun.

  • littlemac8

Mimi is hypnotized by all her choices!

  • MissAmynae

Consistently “out there” but perfect tailoring and exquisite work. Gaultier and McQueen are keeping the “avant-garde couture” alive and well. Makes me miss Galliano’s work as well. I’d expect to see a few of these worn in Asia- the US and European market tend to be less fashion-forward, with a few exceptions.

  • CommentsByKatie

I hate a lot of this, but WOW are there some gorgeous home runs. Dita’s dress, the stiff orange butterfly dress, the sheer blue/black twenties-looking sheath. I think the ones with stiffer materials are working better than the draped chiffon looks.

  • jabes

I think #6 (the purple dress) would look amazing on the red carpet if it were full length and worn without those pale purple gloves or gauntlets or whatever they are.

  • Garcia Loca

The butterfly dresses are ridiculously beautiful!

  • sienna elm

I love this!! (except for the weird colour-blocked snuggi dress 14 pics in)

  • d4divine

I’ve seen JPG’s work up close…it is a weird wonderful world of design…the man is a genius!! Technique and craft is other worldly.

  • Diego!

I have to say this is a FANTASTIC collection! Congratulations Jean Paul!

  • LambeeBaby

    Absolutely breathtaking.

  • poggi

There is a black suit with pants and a jacket in the second row of thumbnails. The jacket is amazing with these butterfly lapels. I would wear that jacket today (probably with a shirt of course). I also love the color and print of many of the pieces and would love this blue palette to get picked up as well.

  • acevedob

Aka “around hooker world in 80 days” (with feathers and butterflies).

  • Vanja

I love the vibrant colours. This collection is crazy, but so much fun to look at. Dita looks flawless as always.

  • MuellersDayOff

My comments as I scrolled down the pics were limited to “insane!” (not in a good way), “gorgeous!”, and “insane AND gorgeous!” (in the best way!).
How, how, how does the lovely Miss Dita get her waist that small?!?!? I know there’s got to be some major corset action going on there, but Wow, that is impressive.

  • Qitkat

So Gaultier and Valentino (meaning the head designers) got together (see my Valentino comment), and ran off to that spa laughing their asses off.

  • Jeff Warhurst

It kinda looks like it was made out of stuff from Hobby Lobby to me…

  • oohsparkley!

Even the crazy, un-wearable stuff is beautiful, colorful and artistic. Butterflies usually come off as too twee, trite or juvenile to me, but not this collection. And if you take time to seriously admire butterflies, they are Nature’s Art, so worthy as inspiration, even if it’s been done before.

  • Gatto Nero

Startling and theatrical — but with a bewildering lack of cohesion.

  • ankali

Can I just say that the super-literal butterfly dresses are amazing and gorgeous? The joy in the design and exquisite skill in the execution there just knocks me down.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

NOW THAT SAYS SPRING…among other things…!

  • Nikki

Anna Dello Russo has a on of options for this year! No, but really, that woman really wears what everyone else is afraid to.
