Jared Leto in Saint Laurent at the “Dallas Buyers Club” London Premiere

Posted on January 31, 2014

Jared Leto’s personal style is so very 100 percent not our personal style, darlings. We’ll admit that part up front.

Jared Leto attends the UK premiere of “Dallas Buyers Club” in London in a Saint Laurent look paired with Nicholas Kirkwood ‘Zig Zag’ printed shoes.

Saint Laurent Spring 2014 Collection

But if we only talked about people whose personal style jibes with our own, this would be one hell of a boring web site. And it would only feature men.

Here’s what we can appreciate about his style: as he’s moved up the awards season visibility ladder (and started getting called the front-runner in his race), he’s done an excellent job of translating his L.A. rocker look into something a little high end and upscale fashionable. In other words, he’s stayed very true to himself while always dressing appropriately for the various galas and awards shows he’s been attending. Gotta respect that. Don’t love the hat or the hair, but everything south of the neck looks pretty fabulous to us. The jacket’s too small on him (which makes us wonder how tiny it really is, considering he’s not exactly brawny), but that’s part of the look, we suppose. We wouldn’t want him wearing a jacket cut like a banker’s suit, after all.

    Johnny Depp 2.0

    • marlie

      No wind chimes, but yeah.

    • kittenwithaquip

I was thinking more along the lines of Chris Robinson (the ex-Mr. Kate Hudson and lead singer of the Black Crowes).

      • rosanegra

That’s the first thought I had!

    • conniemd

That was definitely my thought, trying to imitate Johnny Depp. but Johnny Depp has a bad boy vibe that I don’t get from Jared Leto.

    • NormDeplume720

With that hat, he looks creepily like Nicholas Cage in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

  • Missy

The shoes, purple socks, and patterned shirt are all pretty great. The different textures/finishes in the jacket and pants, however, are making me twitchy in the eyes. The shoes, though. Fab.

    • Trent

See, I’m totally fine with using the suit jacket as a sportcoat — if the leather pants just weren’t so shiny and cheap-looking. Lenny Kravitz rocks leather pants, because his are matte and worn-in like a pair of good jeans. Agree on the fab shoes and shirt, but dude seriously needs to visit my barber to take care of that ratty neckbeard.

      • Imasewsure

Plus Lenny Kravitz is Lenny Kravitz…. most mortals (and I’m including little Jared here) can’t – and shouldn’t – rock the leather fashion pants…All in all though he looks cute and fun (but I’m ignoring the hat and the beard completely)

        • Missy

I think we’re all kind of collectively agreeing to ignore the hat and beard.

    • in a pickle

I love the shoes and would be on board with the purple socks if they weren’t striped and causing me pain. If they were plain, they’d be perfect for me.

    • Samantha E

The shoes are like dazzle camo!

  • msdamselfly

Love the shoes. He has a beautiful face.

    • Rhonda Shore

see, the shoes IMO take it a bit into cartoon territory…the rest of the look is all sound. He does have a lovely face. I always thing of how in “10 Things I hate about you” the sister told the James Gordon Levitt character that her sister likes the Jared Leto type…

    • Evan

I love the shoes with the leather pants, but not with the rest of the look. I don’t think they go with anything from the waist up.

  • Anna

I’m getting Kid Rock from the neck up. I like the loafers.

  • nosniveling

    would kill for those shoes!

    • I want em too. For ladies. Op art/vortex shoes are all the rage!

  • lexilexi

Love his scruffy whisker-laden neck, his gorgeous eyes, his multi-colored hair. Adorbs.

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Kind of an Amish on Sunday sorta hat.

  • @Biting Panda

The Depp is strong with this one.

    • Rand Ortega

Help me, Obi Wan Biting Panda. You’re my only hope!

      • @Biting Panda

        You’re so silly.

  • Inspector_Gidget

What happened all of a sudden? When did he adopt the mountain man look?

  • ChristopherM

Well, his hair looks clean for once, but that is about the best thing I can say about someone who makes Saint Laurent look like something he picked up at the Goodwill.

    • Courtenay P

I wouldn’t blame Jared for that. A lot of Saint Laurent clothing looks like it came from Goodwill all by itself.

  • jonnyf8

Those eyes and that bone structure are pretty hard to argue with too.

  • If he only cut the hair and shaved the neckbeard I would be on board with this.

  • boweryboy

No. Johnny Depp could attempt this look, but only Lenny Kravitz could pull it off.

I soooo do think he’ll win for his role in Dallas Buyer’s Club. He totally disappears into his character Rayon. He actually becomes her. I got shades of Candy Darling from his performance. I thought the movie itself wasn’t all that great even though the subject matter was intriguing.

    • ballerinawithagun

      Yes to Lenny!

  • Emilee Clark

I can appreciate that he’s not (as obviously, anyway) free balling it like the model is.

    • hmb

As a fan of the obvious free ball, I’m surprised I didn’t see that…even more surprised at how much I don’t like it there. Damn.

    • kimmeister

The model is giving off a total Nick Rhodes vibe, c. the “Notorious” era.

  • Mismarker

If you listen closely you can almost hear the wind chime.

  • Ashleigh

he’s a sexy muther f**ker and I dig his style. The is SO Jared, but yeah, meh…

  • hughman

J.T. Leroy was a fake too.

  • Lori

I’d be a lot more inclined to like this if he ditched the neckbeard (never a good look) and washed his hair, or maybe just brushed it.

  • Sarah Thomas

    Young gay wind chime.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Yep, giving Johnny Depp a run for his money.

  • random_poster

I’ve never seen him in a movie or heard his music, so what little I know of him is from this site. I keep trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but he sure does make it hard. The whole get-up just makes me want to laugh at him.

  • bellafigura1

I think I would actually like this, were he to be wearing the proper suit pants that go with it. The shoes are fab, but to me, are destined to only be worn with jeans, otherwise, too precious, too cartoony. The hat is just, well, I have to scroll my eyes past it fast. Blech.

  • ojosazules

I have a soft spot for guys that are still so young they haven’t cut their hair yet. I think it’s sweet. Like glitter nail polish and bathmat coats on girls. He doesn’t have bangles and baubles hanging all over him, so I’m a little confused about the wind chime references‚Ķ. His beard is trimmed- he looks pretty tidy and styling, age appropriate. A thumbs up from this granny.

    • Emilee Clark

Lol. He’s not that young. He can definitely work the longer hair, but I think he looked better when he was younger and a little beefier, and his hair was darker. He doesn’t look quite so foxy as a blonde.

      • Lori

Yeah, I think that at 42 a man is past the “hasn’t cut his hair yet” stage.

        • ojosazules

He’s 42! He needs to cut his hair!

          • kimmeister

I think you were sucked in by his ojos azules!

    • oohsparkley!

As a fellow granny, coming of age during the 60’s & 70’s, I love long hair on the young and good looking. I think it gets kind of scary when they get grey and grizzled. He might not be so young, that he’s a kid, but he’s still good looking enough to carry it off. He could use a trim. I like his style.

  • Sharon Weiner

    Gotta trim the neck, PULEAZE!

  • gabbilevy

Y’all are calling him a wind chime but there’s nary a bead or leather strap necklace that Johnny D loves so much. Save the neckbeard and hat (and a slightly odd clash of texture with the jacket and pants) this is pretty fabulous.

  • jilly_d

ditch the hat and tie the hair back and this would be a win. that beard looks great on him

  • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m not onboard with the pants, but otherwise this is OK in my book, as Jared is staying true to himself, and I like that.

  • MilaXX

On most people I would look at the hat and roll my eyes, but on Jared I’m okay with it. It genuinely feels like something he would have in his closet as opposed to say, Vanessa Hudgins carefully crafted boho look.

  • nannypoo

This is the kind of outfit I would normally hate, but I loved him so much in his movie that I love him in this outfit too. Especially those shoes. Fabulous.

  • marlie

I don’t like anything that he’s wearing, yet it all works for him. Those shoes are kind of awesome, though I don’t want any guy that I know in real life to actually wear them.

  • LeelaST

Love the look, but hat, facial hair & half the hair length need to go.

  • MarTeaNi

Jesus Catalano may look good south of the neck, and debatably handsome above the neck, but that neck itself…UHG.

  • Gerry Coleman

Are we ignoring the terrible yellow makeup? Or does he have a liver disease I don’t know about?

  • Rand Ortega

That’s a shit load of fashion activity for 1 person. That said, I love everything but the hat.

  • monty

I have never, ever gotten the hysteria this guy evokes in white girls of a certain generation. Even Lohan pines for him. Love the shoes, tho.

  • ashtangajunkie

If you look deep into his baby blues, you can still see Jordan Catalano. And be still my heart just for that.

  • Imasewsure

I think 2014 is the Year of the Stupid Hat… this is not the first and won’t be the last unfortunately

  • Claudia

He’s like an American Noel Fielding.

  • Gina Mondzelewski Small

No. Just…no. L.A. rocker look my foot. Doesn’t he ever look in a mirror?

  • Laylalola

Everything about this — including long hair and facial hair — is a No, besides Jared himself.

  • fursa_saida

I actually sort of like this, even though he’s awful? For some reason I’m really bugged by the fact that the socks are stripey. I love the purple, but the tone on tone stripes up against the high-contrast chevrons is really bugging me.

I recognize this is a tiny detail. I just find it incredibly distracting, for some reason.

  • Sara

    He leans great.

  • indigospade

More men should screw boring gender norms and grow their hair out, but I hate when the hair hangs limp and they tuck in behind their ears. It just pushes their ears out like rudders (that goes for ladies too). The highlights arn’t working either. Should go darker.

    • demidaemon

Men should be get the same hair critiques as women. No gender discrimination here!

  • crash1212

I love the hat only because it makes his dreamy eyes totally pop. Also, love the shoes.

  • Glam Dixie

Hipster Rocker Jesus, he’s so freaking adorable that seeing him looking less so makes me sad.

  • ShaoLinKitten

I would agree, except I think he should have tucked his shirt in. However, his pants may be just too tight for that.

  • GeoDiva

He needs to stop taking jacket advise from Matthew, otherwise he is looks good.

  • lesmaha

An amazing actor, but this isn’t doing it at all for me…I just can’t.

  • Haley Buchanan

The hat is TERRIBLE. The shoes are FAB. (And the shoes suit him well.) Good enough. Cut your damn hair, though, Jordan Catalano!

  • quiltrx

It’s all a teensy bit awkward seen all at once but I kind of like…OH MY GOD I WANT THOSE SHOES.
Wait, what? Anyway, I’ll say again, I hope he gets back to acting a lot more. He’s acceptable as a rock star and all that, but I’ve really enjoyed him in every single role I’ve seen (in spite of an initial unexplained desire to dislike him).

  • intheyear2000

Single-button jackets always just look like ladies’ jackets to me. . .

  • Zombiepeep

I don’t know if it’s the too-tight jacket, the too-large hat or the angle but this just makes him look like a Cowboy Jesus Bobblehead to me.

  • katiessh

i LOVE it. every time i see him though i just want to yell jordan catallano what happened?! i miss that hair, and the lean

  • Corsetmaker

Nah, too contrived. Don’t like the cut of the jacket. The trousers aren’t tight enough. And I don’t like the shoes. it’s a bit Duran Duran meets the Stones, and not in a good way.

  • Judy_S

Opened this Saturday morning, saw Miley Cyrus in Saint Laurent and decided not to click because who knows what that’s all about–saw this and clicked happily. He looks great. Individual but not religious-icon individual (or windchime individual). I think the hat is a good choice given the hair….!

  • MannahattaMamma

Those shoes are splendid. They make me overlook the hair. And that’s a LOT of overlooking.

  • Sam Smith

What pact does he have with the devil, he does not age, his skin is fab yet he doesn’t look like he’s had any work.

  • dashwoodstole

Ugh no. He looks like crap. Jacket, shirt and bone structure are fine, I hate everything else. Especially the Jesus hair.

  • guest2visits

While I appreciate the effort to maintain a certain vibe or look – I think there’s too much all at once. And the I don’t know which I’d loose first – the too small jacket, probably.

  • Carleenml

I’m forever grateful you brought the word douchey back into my lexicon because it just FITS sometimes. God, douche.

  • MartyBellerMask

The hair could be sleeker, yes. But what can I say, I am smitten. In deep smit, as they say. The shoes are TO DIE. But shave your neck, Jared.

  • Kent Roby

Those shoes are giving me some “My name is Melinda” hypnosis.

  • CT14

    Purple socks!

  • Brittany Knupper

His Johnny Depp impression needs more scarves.

  • Danielle

    Those shoes tho

  • Cheryl

Adore him, so pretty. Although I do want him to go to Trent’s barber and take care of the neck beard. Facial hair okay, neck hair no. The shoes amuse me, but I like ’em.

  • Scrollupfug.

  • paginatrix

    Really enjoying the shoes.

  • Daenyx

That man needs to lose the facial hair. He is WAY too pretty to cover up his face with fuzzy.
