  • Patrick Scott

Thanks be to G-d for the fit of those pants.

    • Guest

It is right to give thanks and praise.

      • Shug

        Body of Christ.

        • semirose

          Amen.

          • Tom Robinson

Flashback to my Episcopal roots. Thanks for that haha

    • Trent

But c’mon — HOW COULD THEY NOT PUT BOB BENSON IN A PAIR OF SHORTS? Preferably 60′s-style trunks? Really, GQ…

  • charlotte

    Perfect!

  • Heather

Honey, just bring that hot dog right over here and we’ll eat it together.

    • Scimommy

      …Lady-and-the-Tramp-style.

    • YoungSally

It really wouldn’t have been the same if he was munching on a turkey sandwich….maybe a crumpet for the ladies.

    • fursa_saida

How can anyone possibly look that good eating a hot dog? Ugh.

  • Jonquil

His mother is my hero. Exquisite work, ma’am!

  • AzSportsGirl

I am such a bad Mad Men-ophile that I didn’t recognize him on that show, Crazy Ones!!?? Of course — I watched all of 15 minutes of it. Don’t know which was a bigger disappointment for me this year — that show or Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Each is unwatchable.

    • Eve Farren Farber

      what show is he in?

    • sagecreek

Agreed on both counts. Such disappointments!

    • Violina23

My husband and I actually have been enjoying “The Crazy Ones”, despite being skeptical after the first few episodes. He is definitely a highlight for me, he’s got really good comedic timing :)

And he’s hilariously adorable here :)

    • MilaXX

I’ve only watched Crazy Ones once and that was by accident & laziness

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

SHIELD got better after about 8 episodes. Or that may have been Stockholm Syndrome.

      • CelandineM

I pretty much only watch because Ming-Na is so badass on the show. Also I can’t believe that she is 50. 50!

      • AzSportsGirl

Thanks for the heads up.. I’ll venture back in!

    • Missy

The first few episodes of Crazy Ones were really bad. Now it’s become actually really good. I find myself laughing (out loud) in spite of myself multiple times an episode. It’s actually good!

      • AzSportsGirl

I’ll have to give it another shot then!

        • Missy

I don’t even *like* Robin Williams schtick, but it becomes really toned-down and fun. And each episode has really cute outtakes at the end.

  • Alyssa

This Friday has started of magnificently! Not sure it can get better…he’s so dreamy and comes across very down-to-earth.

    • Alyssa

You boys just had to prove me wrong and post pics of Idris! I love Fridays on TLo!

  • AzSportsGirl

And oh yeah.. an atypical guyditorial. Such a fresh of breath air!! Thank you GQ!

    • AzSportsGirl

Good Grief.. a Breath of Fresh air.

  • RussellH88

So, it’s a good thing when your thighs are a bit too big for your pants?

If that’s the case, I should be a model.

    • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Guarantee there’s a row of clothespins or binder clips running down the back of each leg, pulling the pants as tight as possible.

      • RussellH88

I achieve the effect without the trickery.

It does make buying pants a pain, though.

        • thenathanbot

Imagine how awkward (but hopefully funny) being the assistant/stylist on the set of that shoot must be. Hello, total stranger. Don’t mind me while I’m up in your business, clothes-pinning these pants tighter…

      • NinaBoo

The things I learn from you two…

  • Michelle my belle

Hubba Hubba. The second I laid eyes on him in Mad Men, my life was changed forever.

  • filmcricket

Sweetie pie. There’s a lot of Kyle Chandler in his look, isn’t there? Not the clothes, I don’t mean, but his head and general mien. J’adore the shoelaces in the first pic.

    • vahtel

I noticed those straight away. Love the turquoise!

    • ailujailuj

His expressions… absolutely. A little spooky… so I’ll just stare at his pants instead. mkay?

    • Alanna

I just love that we get a credit like “Shoelaces by Hook+Albert”. (And holy crap, he IS Kyle Chandler’s Mischievous Younger Brother!)

      • filmcricket

Okay, well now I’m going to need them to play brothers in something. My God, can we have him and Joannie and Coach and Mrs Coach all do something together?

        • SierraDelta

Mrs. Coach is SO much more layered and interesting than Rayna James will ever be. And Kyle Chandler. . . whomever Rayna is currently canoodling with is just a pale shadow of Coach. Go back to Texas, Mrs. C.!

      • kimmeister

Yes, I was just thinking that it was the first shoelace credit I had ever seen in an editorial.

  • Kathy

His pants are so tight. I’m not complaining.

  • newleaf1

Thank you T and Lo! That was a very happy sunshiny start. He is yummy.

  • Karen Belgrad

But he’s not in a t-shirt, leaning against a broken down car in the desert…. It’s like they shaved the neck beard off the guyditorial and came up with something fun, cute, and charmingly sexy. Color me impressed.

    • mlle

He isn’t wearing anything leather or covered in artful dust… I’m so confused. What am I supposed to do, look at the clothes?

  • Anna

I can help clean off any ketchup and mustard that’s on your face, James. If there’s some on your shirt, I can help with that too.

    • marlie

Of course, he’ll have to take the shirt off so it can be washed. Or better yet… take it off in advance, just to be safe.

      • Anna

        Naturally. Safety first!

  • thenathanbot

That man can wear a suit! Love the pops of colors. And his hair. If you need me, I’ll be doing squats until my knees buckle.

  • unpious

That is so perfectly what I needed to see right now. Bless. I actually like the matching tie and shoelaces, which I feel like under less attractive circumstances would be too twee for me. Also, now I really want a hot dog, which is not a breakfast food. Except when it is, like right now.

  • SeppiChicago

…it wasn’t the thighs I was looking at. Those slacks are a nice fit. Real nice.

    • Jacob Bowen

When he’s eating a hot dog where else are we SUPPOSED to look but there!?!?!? Thank you GQ for pandering to gays and our lovely ladies even more than usual!

  • marlie

Damn those pants are tight, but James looks adorable! The turquoise shoelaces are fun, and I love how he’s showing personality in both photos.

    • SRQkitten

LOL! Didn’t even notice the turquoise shoelaces until you mentioned it. Thanks, that is a fun detail.

  • Jaeda Laurez

    well, Hey Boo Hey….

  • DesertDweller79

I love how tight they made the pants fit. Thanks stylists!

  • SugarSnap108

I feel like I should be objecting to the very clear snugness of those pants. But I’m enjoying the very clear snugness of those pants.

    • carnush

      Exactly. They are perfectly deployed.

  • jw_ny

so cute…fills out those suits nicely. Great start to SF! Peeing sunshine as I type…golden sunshine…err…nm.

He’s the only reason I watch “The Crazy Ones” (have to suffer through RW’s schtick unfortunately) …they don’t give James near enough screen time. The whole show should revolve around him.

    • Missy

I haaaate RW’s schtick usually, but I find it’s kind of mellow and nice with the rest of the cast on The Crazy Ones. And, really, I watch it for the James Wolk eye candy anyway.

  • MilaXX

Adorb! love the colored laces and everything North of them ain’t so bad either.

  • ralish

    Love.

  • MissMariRose

    Ooh, Mama like!

  • Jessica Freeman

I did not know this man before this morning. Thank you TLo for the public service you do for all of us.

  • majorbedhead

    *fans face* Yum.

  • acevedob

Thank you thank you thank you.

  • Hazelnuts

In addition to his obvious charms, the matching tie and shoelaces made me smile. Friday is thighday. :)

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

This is the first time I’ve seen an editorial credit for shoelaces! Also: yum.

  • Frank_821

Most excellent use of Bob Bunson :p

  • MartyBellerMask

    THIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHS. Mama like.

    • ailujailuj

I am a girl for thigh porn… the kinda thighs that seem on the verge of busting the hell through whatever fabric confining their expression —- yearning for freedom and the opportunity to be and run wild and do other stuff… sigh… thighs…

  • vetrik

Almost as good as his appearance in Bob Benson’s short shorts.

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

THIGHS. And the tie pins are at the level I think tie pins should be, not right up high like a lot of boystars have been wearing them.

    • ailujailuj

      He was wearing a tie?

  • Kelly

    Love the shoelaces.

  • Jacob Bowen

Matching your shoelaces and tie is BRILLIANT! Totally stealing that idea! …..and (in Sassy Gay Friend in “Adam and Eve” video) “oh he’s fine”!

  • MannahattaMamma

shoelaces are the new black. or teal, as the case may be. fantastic.

  • zenobar

    Hot diggity dog!

  • stephbellard

“Thighs that could choke a bear!” — Blanche Devereaux, Golden Girls

    • MikeW_Vegas

This is one bear those thighs could choke anytime he wanted to. *excuse me while I go hyper-ventilate*

  • NBG

There are not a lot of men who could make pants that tight work…but he REALLY makes them work.

  • ashtangajunkie

Every time I see him, I want to shout, “NOT GREAT, BOB,” a la Pete Campbell, even when he looks this cute.

    • E2_Remote

Me too! But the first thing I actually thought when I saw this was, “THAT’S GREAT, BOB!”

    • Denise Alden

That is one of the absolute funniest lines in all of Mad Men! As for Mr. Wolk, he will always be Bob Benson to me, carrying his two cups of coffee.

  • KinoEye

Oh yes, the sainted thighs. It was all over for me when he wore those shorts in Mad Men. Everyone knows what I’m talking about. He’s so cute, and I love how his shoelaces match his tie in the first shot.

  • crash1212

I love the pops of color in unusual places. Those shoelaces are everything. Excellent start to Sausage Friday!

    • Leah Elzinga

those shoelaces make me way happier than shoelaces should. I’m pretty confident this boy could be on the cusp of “something big”.

    • Laura Renee

YES. I am far more entranced to the shoelaces than the man.

  • http://thishotoldbroad.blogspot.com/ Sara Leigh Merrey

    That was sublime.

  • DaveUWSNYC

Thanks for making me incapable of concentrating on ANYTHING else today, boys. :-)

  • decormaven

Please, pretty please, have him come back to Mad Men this season. He is too fine for “The Crazy Ones.” Thank you, dear Uncles, for this ray of sunshine. Sausage Friday!!!!

  • thecitysleeps

Thanks be to God, but also to Jesus. Hallelujah. And the tie colour is cute :)

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

    I swoon.

  • Michele

What’s this? A guy editorial with some actual personality? I love it!

  • Bradio311

    Drooling.at.my.desk. Nice hot dog too!

  • WendyD

    J’adore!!!

  • AC Simons

I love the credit for the shoelaces. Now that’s detail!

  • BeeBeauNYC

That is one heck of a tight crotch. Not that I’m complaining, though…

  • lillyvonschtupp

    mmm…me likey!

  • boweryboy

The only thing that would have made this even more perfect is if he wore a pair of shorts in one of the shots.

  • paintedfish

i never thought i would want a hot dog more than i do right now.

  • E2_Remote

This just made me go SQUEEEeeee with delight!

  • lobsterlen

The hot dog photo is killllling me! It looks him and Jon Hamm share a similar affliction.

  • p_capet

    *sigh*

  • Corinne Bourgoin

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting James while he was on vacation here on Maui. He was a total dreamboat, and just a nice guy. He was in a tshirt and swim trunks, though unfortunately they fell a little lower on the thigh than Bob Benson’s.

  • Shawn EH

I’m trying to imagine him in one of the mock James Dean in the Desert with a Car shoots that boystars always do, and I can’t. He just naturally seems prone to WITFU.

  • jonnyf8

Well they should have had him shorts for at least one shot. Another GQ missed opportunity.

  • jjtxgrrl

Oh. My. Thighs for days is true!!!

    Thank GAWD for sausage Friday!!!

  • Cheryl

Love the turquoise shoelaces, tie, and the fit of those pants, even though I now know how it was achieved thanks to TLo. Perhaps, I could convince my Viking always lean against walls, after I do the not so secret alterations?

  • TinaBelchersawkwardmoan

To paraphrase Pete Campbell, “Great, Bob!” That man is adorable.

  • conniemd

Two beautiful suits and I loved the splash of color in the first tie. So happy not to see a guy in black and navy suits with black and navy ties. Oh was there a guy in there? Don’t watch Mad Men so don’t know him, but he could make me a fan with these looks.

  • Therese Bohn

Bob, I love you! Love Turquoise accents. I suspect he’ll be all over the last season of MM! (And he’s the new MM flavor next to Hamm)

  • lrober03

I like the look of the bold pastel. It’s an enjoyable (for me) level of preppy

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Now that’s how you wear pants.

  • lalahartma

Usually you say the pants are too tight.

  • andi56

    Nice Jewish boy makes good!

  • lunchcoma

    I want one.

  • http://stylishsass.blogspot.com/ Terri Smith

    Praise be to God.

  • JauntyJohn

I know I’m preachin’ to the choir with this observation, but it’s the details which take something from good/great to over-the-moon fabulosity.
Those shoelaces are such a detail.
    Fantastic.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I just had a vision of a Mad Men spin off with Bob, Joan and Sal in an updated Three’s Company that I didn’t know my life was missing until just now. Kittens, can we please make that happen?

    • ThaliaMenninger

I love that idea! Because his new show is set in Chicago and he is in advertising again, I have this fantasy that his CRAZY ONES character is really still Bob Benson, just with a new identity (and presumably a time machine). I guess he can be Bob Benson, Jr., the son Bob and Sal had with a surrogate in the mid-80s. And then BB Jr. can show up over on The Good Wife (also in Chicago) to solve all their problems. It could happen. More Bob Benson (or a Bob Benson Jr. or Bob Benson III) would solve a whole lot of problems from sea to shining sea.

      • altissima

You, Ma’am, are a genius. If you don’t currently work in TV, please start straight away.

  • a_liking

jesus christ on a breadstick, that man is perfect.

  • msdamselfly

    Adorable

  • Dennis

I have a thing for Jewish boys, particularly one’s who look like James. Oy vey!

  • Raymond Dnomyar

    Heavens me.

  • Kwei-lin Lum

He’s going to be such a big star–he has the looks, great comedy skills. He’s fabulous in Crazy Ones, steals scenes.

  • Fred Vaughn

The morning just got a little better.
