I kind of wish Helen Mirren and Miley Cyrus had traded outfits.

      • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

I would pay real cash money to see that.

      • random_poster

Well, with the way the thumbnail pictures currently rest on the home page, Miley does seem to be admiring the outfit.

      • sojourneryouth

Only if Helen wore Madonna’s hat and added a pink feather. Pimp coat goes with pimp hat. Her pimp name is Crumpet Bear.

      • oklund

What if they already did? Mind blown

        • makeityourself

That’s hysterical. How subversive would it be for Miley to wear that MOB dress? She’d probably remove the lining, for starters.

    • Tammy_4

Beautiful, I love her in navy

    • Danielle

I am DIGGING those nails, miss thing!

      • housefulofboys

I know!! Someone asked in a post weeks ago when someone was too old to rock dark nail polish, and I responded NEVER! You will pry my midnight blue (and purple and green) polish off my cold dead fingers!

    • ovarB

      LOVE the color!!!

    • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

Minority opinion: it goes a little mother of the bride for me. If the mother of the bride were Queen Helen, obvs. It looks heavy on her, though the color is gorge.

      • barbarienne

Oh, thank goodness it’s not just me. I mean, sure, she would be the most stylin’ MOB ever, but if she were standing in a wedding party, everyone would just nod and know what her role was.

        • KateShouldBeWorking

To my eye, the styling’s the problem. Minus those fabulous earrings, it’s all fancy, wealthy, but not stylish: in other words, MOB

          • Coleen

Agreed. I like the dress and love the earrings. If she’d gone a bit more punk instead of staid, it would have killed it for me.

      • Karen Belgrad

Beyond a little for me…. Rare misstep for the Queen.

      • jen_vasm

I just really do not like Jenny Packham. She skews towards matronly to me.

      • Lilithcat

        My thought, exactly.

    • alyce1213

It’s a lovely color and silhouette for her, although I would have removed the shoulder puffs — they actually detract and look a little silly, less couture.
The earrings are great, but I don’t like how they fixed her hair. The blue nails and rings totally clash with the blue of the dress, but maybe that’s nitpicking.

    • zenobar

Those earrings will be mine someday.

      • Snailstsichr

Does that mean I don’t have to fight you for the rings?? Loving her jewelry.

    • ModernDowager

      Love the earrings

    • jw_ny

Pretty overall…a great color on her, but those earrings are gaudy and heavy looking, and the blue nail polish is going too far in the matchy matchy dept. Also…lose one of the rings..both pretty tho.

    • marlie

Dame Helen continues to stun. This dress could look too matronly or mother-of-the-bride on other ladystars of her age, but I don’t see it that way. Maybe it’s the sassy haircut that helps.

      • Garcia Loca

        Or just her overall Dame-Helen-ness.

      • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

Helen is my idol for aging gracefully. I want to look just like her someday. Just, you know, not too soon.

    • Sarah

She is glowing in that color! And her figure looks lovely. She is amazing, and I love her accessories.

    • filmcricket

Not wild about the sleeve length or the manicure, but otherwise, she’s done it again!

    • Garcia Loca

What I love about Dame Helen and her public appearances is that she looks like she put in a decent amount of effort to look presentable and at the same time like she’s having a good ole’ time! Graceful, poised, and fun as hell!

    • Lily-Rygh

Since Queen Helen has clearly mastered the art of aging beautifully and still being a badass, do you suppose someone could arrange an instructional meeting between her and Madonna?

      • Garcia Loca

I think there’d be a better chance of arranging one between Hillary Clinton and Kim Kardashian.

        • Heather

I would pay to see that.

          • formerlyAnon

I imagine it as being very short.

            • Heather

Yes, Hills would TAKE Kim K out quick. But it would be awesome to witness.

      • schadenfreudelicious

I would love to hear Queen Helen instructing Madge to ditch the grill..yes I would pay good money for that…

    • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

Personally, I think the dress and the hair come off a little frumpy. Then, her pre-teen niece tried to “cool it up” with a pair of gaudy earrings. The dress is a pretty color, but on the model and Helen it looks weirdly off-the-rack.

    • kimmeister

Everything on her hands is waaaaay too matchy. Love the dress and the asymmetrical haircut though.

    • Brigitte

I don’t like the ring on her left hand bc it looks like one of her nails has jumped off the end of her finger. Maybe I just don’t like the nails.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I long for the opportunity to match my nailpolish to my sapphire ring.

I think the earrings are a step too far, but aside from that I love this.

I’m glad there was something else on this weekend so we get refreshing breaks between Grammy monstrosities.

    • Jessica Freeman

      Helen nails it, as usual.

      • schadenfreudelicious

        Her nails included :)

    • Glam Dixie

Something, anything at all, needed to not be blue.

    • Stella Zawistowski

I was going to quibble about how matchy everything is…but she IS a queen, so I suppose she gets to do that royal monochromatic thing whenever she damn well pleases.

    • mjude

its been a long day on this deep freeze of a Monday. queen Helen is what I needed. I will bow the fuck down.

    • deelup

Helen is starting to stray into Sophia Loren territory for me. She’s creating a signature look, which almost always works, and keeps repeating it. Can’t really criticize as she always looks lovely, but it’s getting a bit boring purely from a bitchy outsider perspective.

    • KT

For a second, I thought this was Queen Helen at the Grammys and was quite confused…. phew. She looks absolutely gorgeous, though accessorizing with all navy blue was a bridge too far.

    • Pennymac

Attention Madonna: This is the face of a woman growing old gracefully, with class.

      • Heather

        Class, and beauty!

      • StellaZafella

        Yeah…but Madge can’t act…Mirren can.

        • manina

So true. She is a little better at directing and a lot better at entertaining. She should stick to that.

    • boweryboy

I don’t like the shoulder pads but other than that fabulous.

    • Janet B

      Beautiful color on her.

    • KayEmWhy

She looks better that the model. Curtsey to the Queen.

    • Miranda

      She can do no wrong.

    • Glenn Johnson

I thought you said Beowulf clutch and I got all excited for a minute. This is Gin, sneaking my sweetie’s account again.

    • Diego!

What a gorgeous dress in a gorgeous woman. She looks amazing!

    • VicD

      Basic, but beautiful

    • MilaXX

The eye shadow is one matchy step too far for me, but it’s otherwise a good Queen Helen look.

    • Anne

It looks so much better on her than on the model. I think it’s weird to put a 16-year-old model in a dress that is pretty much MADE for Helen Mirren.

    • Suse

I want to see her in jeans, t-shirt, leather jacket, and moto boots. I bet she’d look great!

      • Qitkat

I may be misremembering, but I think she dressed like that in the movie Reds.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Maybe not exactly that, but certainly leather jacket and looking amazing.

    • livesarah

Too much blue. But boy does she ever look regal in it.

    • Elana Bryan

I’m not digging the shoulder additions, but this woman looks pretty fantastic every time she steps out….she’s my spirit guide..I love and admire her!

    • cocohall

This, like Sandra B’s dress, is serviceable Methinks that the ladies just don’t have the energy to bring their A game to every event. So they are trotting out perfectly nice, but dull dresses, and regrouping for the Oscars. I can’t really blame them. They are both pros and know that they have to pace themselves (and their fashion) – no good peaking in late January with weeks left to go . . .

    • kategs

Seriously on so many levels I want to be her when I grow up and I am only 10 years younger! She’s amazing.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Lord,if I could be even 1/4 as fabulous as this woman I would be so happy-LOVE.HER.
that color is gorgeous on her!

    • River

This dress needs a different neckline to really work.

    • E. D.

      Better sleeveless.

    • NBG

Packham dresses members of the British Royal Family so no surprise that this is on the conservative side. I love the color on Queen Helen. This is the kind of color stars should be wearing on the red carpet, not that dirty bra shade everyone seems to favor.

I also love that it’s pretty form fitting for a Packham gown. Helen can still rock a two piece bathing suit so she should go figure hugging on the red carpet whenever possible. Show it off!

    • Jeff Warhurst

She is one fierce, confident woman.

    • PeggyOC

      Bowing the F down.

    • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

This is like a two colour dress – even in the photos on this page this looks teal green as well as royal blue – the good news is either colour really suits her.

She is extremely gorgeous, as always. :)

    • Jessica Goldstein

I think this dress is stunning and ageless. As is the wearer.

    • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

The purse is off, but otherwise, it’s gorge!

    • MartyBellerMask

      Oooh. Do not like.

    • lobsterlen

Queen Helen is too young to wearing such matronly mother of the bride dress.
Love the color on her but maybe shorter sleeves or different neckline would have given this gown a more youthful appearance.

    • formerlyAnon

It’s a bit more matronly in feel than she usually wears, but it’s a gorgeous dress and she looks good in it. If she was able to move confidently in it, (and I imagine she was, she’s too experienced at this to wear it otherwise) I can envision her owning her space. I like her hair when I just look at the head, but it somehow comes off as perfunctory with the gown. Perhaps a prettier, sillier (?) hair style would have fixed the slight matronly feel.

    • KinoEye

Absolutely gorgeous color for her. Nothing but love for this from me. By the way, has anyone else ever seen the abomination that is Caligula? I watched it the other night because I thought, “Hey! It’s got Malcolm McDowell, Peter O’Toole and Helen Mirren. It should be pretty good!” Oh, how sadly I was mistaken. McDowell was clearly in the middle of his cocaine years, O’Toole was in that weird mid-70s career slump, and they didn’t do much with Helen. It was like if Satyricon had been made by a talentless hack and was funded by Penthouse (I got really tired of seeing nothing but boobs and butts for an hour an a half). I will say, though, that Dame Helen’s like a fine wine. She’s gotten much more beautiful with age!

    • Erica_Vuitton

That blue is giving me LIFE!!!!
