Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals Honor Helen Mirren

Posted on January 31, 2014

Gotta love this broad. It’s an overused internet term at the moment to say that something one likes is “EVERYTHING,” but…

The Harvard Hasty Pudding Theatricals Honor Helen Mirren as 2014 Woman of the Year

She’s EVERYTHING, goddammit.

We rarely ever get to see her casual style. She looks adorable. It’s a comfy-stylish look that a lot of ladies in the so-called real world could pull off.

We also rarely – as in never – get to see her twerk, so we suppose that’s one more notable contribution to the world from Harvard. That and the tradition of (allegedly) straight-guy drag.

Helen Mirren really IS my spirit animal. Plus, she seems like so much fun, and such a good sport!

      • mlle

I love that second shot. She’s clearly having a great time.

    • HM3

That’s my hometown! Love the Hasty Pudding parade.

      • Katesymae

Me too! I moved across the country and then became insanely jealous when I heard who the Hasty Pudding honorees were this year. Lucky duckies!

    • warontara

Oh I love her so so so so much.

    • Jaeda Laurez

She’s such a G. And yes, she is EVERYTHING.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I hope her medal is inscribed to “Queen Helen of Fuckingfantastica”!

    • Noah

Just when I didn’t think I could love her more.

    • VicD

That pig purse is instantly making me feel better about the rubber chicken handbag my sister gave me for Christmas…

    • majorbedhead

My life is now complete. I have seen Helen Mirren twerk.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

It must be freezing, so I totally admire the commitment of those queens.

    • GorgeousThings

      Luv. Huh!

    • Noah

If I am half as fabulous at 68 as Helen Mirren, I’ll consider it a success.

      • Lilak

You aren’t kidding! Except I’ve got a boatload of catching up to do just to hit One Third (+ the degree of difficulty multiplier of not many years to attempt it in ~ ).

    • Jacob Bowen

Straight guy drag is unfair because it would make straight men even MORE attractive to me! A man who can throw on heels and say, “fuck y’all, I’m fabulous” is something so attractive to me!

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Go ON with your oh so fabulous BAD SELF!

    • Terri Ellis

I thought she never wore pants? Or at least never shorts. I seem to remember some interview with Oprah where she said it wasn’t “ladylike” or some such. Apparently that’s wrong- she looks great!

      • Saturnine

You never know what you might be asked to do, so I’d play it safe with pants!

    • zenobar

When I grow up, I want to be Helen Mirren.

      • conniemd

She’s only 8 years older than me. Oh my. Love her to death.

    • ovarB

Totally everything!! She can go from portraying the Queen of England in staunch glory to walking the red carpet in lucite stripper heals and not give it a second thought!!

    • @Biting Panda

      E V E R Y T H I N G ! ! !

    • didgerdoni

That is the best thing that’s ever happened. EVER. I can die a happy woman now. Just not quite yet, please.

    • ashtangajunkie

Dame Helen is just so bad ass.

    • Rand Ortega

She’s…the whole f’in universe! She’s in the same league as the Hepburn’s, Davis & Stanwyck. A treasure.

    • Cee Layton

OMG the wave…it’s just perfection. I would take a slap for her.

    • Anna

I’d love to go to a bachelorette party with Helen Mirren.

    • PlethoraofBooks

That is a super cute coat! She’s freaking adorable!

    • jw_ny

LMAO! I’m so glad she succumbed and did twerk….that was priceless.

oh…and glad you mentioned they were “straight” guys in drag…I was all set to criticize thinking otherwise…

    • ralish

I want to be her when I grow up. Fantastic.

    • KinoEye

She’s clearly loving every moment. Excellent. And as I mentioned on another post about the Queen, she was a doll when she was younger (saw Caligula the other day; oh, the horror of that movie) but I think she’s even more beautiful now. What a face. What a smile. What a bod! As so many others have said here, I want to be her when I grow up.

    • Kathy

Okay, I just moved into crazy fan territory. I’m building an alter to her in my living room.

      • schadenfreudelicious

Right next to my shrine! :)

    • decormaven

Happy sigh! And a fashion note, love her coat and hat. That second shot- may we all have such light in our eyes. That is a woman who is at ease with herself. Love!

    • MilaXX

Luv huh! She just always seems to be enjoying herself.

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

What took them so long? How did Julia Roberts and Renee Zellweger get honored before Dame Helen?

      • Jackie4g

They probably thought she wouldn’t know WTF it was, and look how wrong that turned out to be! She is such a good sport.

      • Katesymae

How the Hasty Pudding honorees are chosen is a crazy mystery. Doesn’t seem to be someone who’s having an amazing year; isn’t someone who was an in excellent film. Glad they chose her this year, because often (in my mind) they get it wrong. She is amazing.

    • crash1212

She’s my hero. Love her car-wear. Nobody can rock a fur hat like Dame Helen!

    • SugarSnap108

God lord, I love her – stuffed piggy purse and all.

    • SewingSiren

Damn! She looks like she did in Excalibur , when she played Morgan Le Fay.

      • Shawn EH

Love that movie! She scared me to death back then!

    • Joanna

She looks more youthful than a good number of young lady stars these days, who seem to want to dress as if they are HM’s age (Allison Williams, I’m looking at you!)

    • julnyes

She is so fanfuckintastic it brings a tear to my eye.

    • cocohall

I love how she can seem positively demure and swear like a sailor simultaneously. She’s a delight.

    • kduffin7

She is living proof that one can grow old fabulously.

    • Kelly

It’s fascinating to me how often (allegedly) straight guys jump at the opportunity to appear in drag, the more outrageous, the better. I teach at a college, and at least twice a year, there’s some campus event where the toughest and most macho of guys fall all over themselves for the chance to exhibit their inner glitter queen. I think it offers a safe, non-threatening way for males to escape the tyranny of cultural hyper-masculinity.
And now on to the important stuff — Helen Mirren and her pig purse! Love, love, love her. And do I want that Dr. Zhivago hat, or what? (Not too sure about the white shirt, though — makes her look wider than she is.)

    • Saturnine

Covet the car jacket, gloves, hat, and winning smile.

    • lesmaha

      Love. Her!

    • Heather

I’d love to know what she said that they bleeped out.

    • stubbornthoughts

I hate the term “winning,” but the Queen is so totally WINNING.

    • acevedob

      She’s awesome.

    • Tracy_Flick

That COAT. She is a class act, all the way.

Also, she and Lupita must never appear together. The sheer mass of their fabulousness would rend the fabric of space-time.

      • demidaemon

I would approve of it rending, just for this occasion.

    • KT

GOD she is the absolute best

    • fursa_saida

Helen Mirren in a fur hat and a car full of dudes in drag. If that’s not everything, I’m not sure what is.

    • Gatto Nero

I just have no words. She makes me joyful.

    • Lilyana_F

Helen Mirren wins at LIFE. That is all.

    • Madam Von Sassypants

Helen Mirren twerking is about all I needed today. Bless you, uncles. Bless.

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

She really is everything wonderful, isn’t she?

    • http://www.lindamerrill.com/ Linda Merrill

And, in the “harsh” light of day, the woman still looks amazing and yet also her age. Madonna should take note.

    • deltabronze

LOVE that second photo!! (Love them all, really, but that one is just adorable!)

    • littlemac8

      She is one fabulous DAME!!!

    • Synnamin

      PIG. PURSE. I just died.

    • http://www.thirteen.org/program-content/the-downton-abbey-dish-season-4-episode-2/ Gotham Tomato

There is nothing like a Dame.

      • Pennymac

I see what you did there.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

How is she so delightful at all times?!

    • SierraDelta

Kudos to a woman who can hold a pig purse with such aplomb and conviction.

I want to be reincarnated as Helen Mirren.

    • kat89

How much do you love that pig purse? LOL You go, girl! Queen Helen rules!

    • elzatelzabelz

      She is Awesome. AWESOME.

    • Pennymac

Dame Helen,Queen of Fucking Fantastica, Long live the Queen! Huzzah!

    • CeeQ

I wish she were my Grandma. My current one is a terror.

    • quiltrx

She just continues to show she is the most fabulous bitch on the planet, doesn’t she? And her piggy purse is giving me life!!

    • Sam Smith

Was the pig purse a gift or part of her ensemble.

    • http://www.dogsdotcom.blogspot.com/ Plink

Take note, Madonna. Helen is a knockout because she knows who and what she is…years do not terrify her into becoming a gross spectacle.
