GTNYD: Ciara in Emilio Pucci at the 2014 Grammy Awards

Posted on January 27, 2014

Is she afraid of contrast or something?

Ciara attends the 2014 Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California in a custom Emilio Pucci gown.

When your dress matches your skin AND your hair, you should probably pick another dress. Or at the very least, paint up your face a little more. Do SOMETHING, because she’s managing the trick of looking beautiful and bland at the same time when she could’ve been beautiful and fierce. Imagine this dress in white and silver paired with a stronger lip. She’d have been a knockout. It’s not that she looks terrible here, but it feels like a major missed opportunity to us. It’s gorgeous, but Girl, That’s Not Your Dress.

I thought she looked amazing and…serene (oddly enough!) I absolutely loved this look. It was one of the rare instances when such colours were combined and the outcome was aesthetically appealing to me. Sorry daddies, this bitter kitten disagrees. And I think her face looks stunning, I mean WOW!

      • pookiesmom

I agree. I think she looks amazing. This is one of the best pregnancy looks I’ve ever seen.

      • rumcg66

I agree. I think she looks beautiful.

      • Monzerrat Ontiveros

        Awful hair!!

        • IraKi

I honestly don’t mind the hair. It looks sloppy but it still frames her face nicely.

      • TeacherH

She looks great here, and she looked even better on TV. She was stunning on video. Maybe movement highlighted the sparkles and distracted from the land color? But even in stills, it is very pretty.

        • IraKi

Exactly! On video it looked fabulous and luminous!

      • fungstyle

Agreed – I think a different wig or dye job would have made all the difference on impact of the look here, but even without she looks stunning.

      • Big Bear

I’m with you. It’s not only her dress but she looks amazing in it.

      • River

        100% agree!

      • Ginger

It’s a BK revolt, y’all! I don’t think that, in all my years reading this site, I’ve ever seen so many of us disagreeing with our benevolent uncles. It’s a sign of the apocalypse, I’m sure.

    • @Biting Panda

I have to admit bias here, I love her. Possibly in an unhealthy way. Since flesh toned was 80% of the RC last night, I don’t hold this against her. I think she looks gorgeous and is one of my favorites.

    • deelup

I think she looks gorgeous. There’s something about a preggo who looks happy, serene, and comfortable with what she’s wearing that makes me support whatever they’re wearing.

    • KT

I get what you’re saying TLo, but I gotta say, I think she looks really beautiful here. I think that’s totally her dress, and I think she’s rocking it.

    • jw_ny

Bland in a sparkly patterned dress…but that she is! ha!

    • In_Stitches

I love the cut of the dress. It’s not a tent, but it isn’t one of those crazy body-con stockings other pregnant women wear on the carpet. It hugs her tightly, but it hangs from the bump in an elegant way.

Really, guys? She looks BEAUTIFUL!!!! I don’t think this would work for her in white and silver at all – that would be for Kerry Washington. This is Bronze Madonna Goddess.

    • ms_bdc

Lovely, but I 100% agree, color would have taken this look up to 11.

    • LeelaST

Not commenting on neck down, it is what it is. But what is up with that hair and makeup? It’s beyond bland, it’s “I ran out of time” bland.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

This dress belongs to Rhiannon. (Brushing up on my Pretty Pony mythology today.)

    • Pennymac

I’m hoping it is, in fact, her dress. Cause, dress shields. Just sayin….

      • boweryboy

        HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

    • pookiesmom

This is pretty much a WERQ for me.

      • Dagney

Same here. For once the illusion-y look looks good.

    • oohsparkley!

I’m going to disagree with Uncles too. A rare occurance. I think she looks golden and beautful. The colors match her skin and hair in a very complimentary way, versus washed out.

    • Janet B

Bland is right. Too bad, because the dress fits nicely and shows off her figure well.

She’s beautiful, but almost any color would have been an improvement.

    • alyce1213

I think she looks delicious, like a caramel latte. It’s a gorgeous dress and the fit is perfect.
Normally, I’d call for more effort on the hair, but the ease and casualness is working for me here.

    • ojosazules

I think she looks like a Goddess.

    • Tracy_Flick

I think she looks wonderful. This is a GREAT dress for maternity. I do agree that the hair and makeup could have been better done.

    • sherrietee

Actually, I kinda don’t mind the dress. But I’m trying to figure out who the hell she is. Seriously. To the googles, I guess.

      • MilaXX

        R & B singer.

      • Diego!

Search in youtube: Love Sexy Magic feat. Justin Timberlake. That girl is pretty damn fierce!

    • gsk241

      Dress, that’s not your girl!

    • Madam Von Sassypants

Personally, I dig the tonal sparkle upholstery look on the lady. I want a fainting couch made of that fabric. I mean this only in the best way possible.

    • Diego!

I’m sorry but girl, that IS your dress!
She looks STUNNING!!! I love this dress and how it looks on her. Hair is OK, but make up is pretty good. You rock that golden gown, gurl!

      • Lilak

You bet! And she seemed so happy as well (anyone’s best accessory)!

        • Diego!

I agree. She looks amazing. Way to go! :D

    • Danielle

I think it would have been her dress if it was another color, like an emerald green or a dark blue.

      • Rand Ortega

        Emerald green = SWOON

    • DeTrop

Please explain GTNYD for me. ( I must have missed something along the way). BTW, I think she looks great in this dress. I do agree that another color might have been wiser, but she’s a knockout.

      • Synnamin

GTNYD = “Girl, That’s Not Your Dress”

        • DeTrop

          Duh! Slaps head. Thank you.

      • MilaXX

In this case I think it’s a GTNYD mostly because she’s all one color. To quote T & Lo, “She’d have been a knockout. It’s not that she looks terrible here, but it feels like a major missed opportunity to us”.

    • alliekat9090

This is perfect. All of it.

    • Sarah

I think the dress is pretty, and I forgive it’s color scheme, but I wish very much she had a better up-do and a brighter lip color.

    • MilaXX

I’d have been happy with more color on the face. I love the deep wine color Sam Fine has been using on LaTifah lately. I think it would have looked just as good on Ciara.

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

I like it! Maybe a brighter lip, but I think she looks gorgeous!

    • marlie

I would have been happy if she had bolder makeup. The dress is gorgeous, and really suits her. Usually I hate monochromatic looks, but this isn’t the worst.

    • VioletFem

Even though I agree that any other color (or even just some variation in the shade to give it more contrast) would have improved this look, I’m not convinced that this qualifies for the GTYND label. Despite the monochromatic theme she still looks really beautiful in this dress.

    • Rand Ortega

It’s all very pretty, but she looks like walking wallpaper. She shouldn’t get too close to that wall. Someone might try to smooth out the bumps.

    • livesarah

I thought it was Beyonce when I saw the thumbnails. But Beyonce’s tacky effort makes this look GOOD. Great, even,

    • amaranth16

I like this a lot, actually. She takes a really sexy diva dress and makes it classy and almost understated – I find it kind of refreshing. I think the silver and white would make her look like just another wannabe J-Lo. I agree she could use a little color – maybe a lime or celery green clutch – but I have no objections to this look.

    • Jacob Bowen

THANK YOU CIARA for showing Ms. Washington that you can still be chic and pregnant. Even though I agree that the tone is AWFULLY close to her skin color and hair and could therefore be changed, I still think it’s GORGEOUS!

    • kategs

so disagree with the uncles (again!). She looks elegant, serene and lovely.

    • Lianne S

You guys are crazy! She looks radiant and somehow makes that dress look subtle! How? She looks like a golden goddess in all her real natural beauty! I like that she isn’t all painted up and her hair is a little simpler.

    • MannahattaMamma

and the word of the day is “tawny.” I think it’s fabulous, tip to toe

    • Imasewsure

I love everything about this… I think it’s monochromatic in the best way possible. Oh well

    • Dagney

huh? are you guys HIGH?? She looks stunning. grouchy old queens.

    • MissusBee

I can sympathise in that when you have a bump, statement colors can seem too overwhelming like, ‘Eek! I’m giant blueberry/tangerine/snowball/tomato!’ She has a great figure, and is in no way more round than tall, but that’s how it looks to you when you see yourself in the mirror. So you go for neutral choices, and end up looking like you’re on safari instead.

    • nycfan

I think she looks pretty doggone fierce considering her stage of pregnancy. It takes a toll on your hair, among other things, at least in my experience. To me, this is not a GTINYD moment at all b/c she looks beautiful, more a missed chance at a WERQ. I guess to me the space between GTINYD and WERQ is pretty vast and she is waaaaaay closer to WERQ [which would require different colors in her dress and more BAM makeup, so not exactly a near WERQ if she just had a better clutch or something either].

    • Jessica Freeman

Its the hair that killed this look for me. Way to “I’m running to the grocery store” for an evening gown.

    • MzzPants

I disagree. I think that IS her dress. Even without baby on board, she would be glowing. We’re not all born to rock the Smurfette frock. The never-ending season of flesh tones has jaded you, TLo.

    • MartyBellerMask

So… should she have traded with Paula Patton??

    • NinjaCate

The shape is gorgeous but the colour is meh. A white and silver combo with have kicked it into WERQ territory.

    • guest2visits

I thought she was radiant – another one of the recent celeb pregnancies that are showing-up in beautiful choices.

    • SistaT

Oh, I completely disagree, TLo. I thought she looked absolutely breathtaking. Shimmering and softly beautiful. Quite womanly. To look that glamorous when pregnant is quite a feat. I was proud of her.
