IN or OUT: Elisabeth Moss in J. Mendel at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards

Posted on January 14, 2014

It’s absolutely impossible for us to hate this dress because when Giuliana asked Elisabeth to show off her jewelry to the mani-cam, she gave it the finger. She wins everything for that alone.

“Mad Men” star Elisabeth Moss attends the 2014 Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, California in a J. Mendel dress paire with Stuart Weitzman heels and Jennifer Meyer jewelry.

J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2014 Collection

And she clearly showed up feeling great and spewing confidence in every direction. Definitely a “Be Me” kind of look. But we can’t pretend that we like that hem. We hate it, in fact. and we feel like the bust is too breastplate-y for her to pull off. She gets major points for wearing one of the most interesting dresses of the night, but despite how radiant she is, we can’t say we love it.

Also: grippin’ toes.

Bitter Kittens make the call:

IN! It’s too bold and she’s too happy for me not to love it.

OUT! Xena, Warrior Nominee.

The kittens found themselves loving Amy Adams’ ’70s-fab gown quite a bit more than we did, voting it IN.

In. I love the colour and the texture of it and the hem does not even annoy me that much. Plus I love her hair colour here.

    • Ragnarockette

Me too, but then I picture this whole outfit with her as an icy blonde (and with a better, more fierce shoe) and I wish it were so.

      • alainalynn

Agreed. I loved her blonde hair!

  • Spreecord

I’m loving me some breastplate. IN.

    • Me Again

I know, right? Not only IN, but a WERQ from me. One of my favorites of the night. (yeah, okay the hem is sorta weird, but when she was giving her acceptance speech, you couldn’t see the hem.)

  • WendyD

IN! She clearly loved it and her confidence sold the dress on the red carpet. She also looked fantastic on stage when she won.

    • AudreysMom

ditto on this. IN. LOVED the dress (hated the hair, though). But LOVED the dress, her smile and her WIN!

  • zoë

she’s rocking the hem way better than the model, IMO, and i’m having a hard time figuring out what the perfect shoe would be. definitely in, she looks radiant.

    • zoë

OH MY and i just realized how much i love the earrings, too!

      • fursa_saida

The earrings are so fantastic. I want them, but I think they’d be lonely without the dress.

  • Scimommy

    So, so IN!

  • Emily

IN. She looks great, and even she said she thought it was a personal best.

    • Milos Mom

Agreed…. This is my favorite dress of the evening. Look at that detail!

  • @Biting Panda

It’s a Monet, and her hair makes me weep, but I can’t help but give it an IN.

    • AshleyDeHaye

Totally agree. That bathroom dye job and DIY head are making me weepy.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

Both IN and personal best for her, IMO.

  • marlie

IN. While not perfect, still another of my favorites of the night. Visually stunning and detailed. The hem doesn’t bother me, though the shoes are a little too “naked” (and naked shoes don’t usually bother me as much as they do the rest of the BKs). Her makeup looks pretty, and those earring are perfect. And her hair is ok. She seems to struggle with her hair the most, but this ‘do is fine.

    • tereliz

I’ll take visually stunning over boring and bridal (like some starlets default to) any day! IN!

  • Violina23

I thought she looked great, weird hem or no weird hem. Maybe the confidence helped!

  • newleaf1

This was one of my favorites, but I love a geometric design. I also love that it was one of the more covered up looks in a sea of bare skin.

  • s k

This looked so much nicer on TV. Still an in. Why do dresses have me gasping when I see them live and then have me mehhing in photos.

    • TeacherH

Yes! When she showed up on the TV screen, I adored it. The dress made her look so tall and slim, and she looked so incandescently happy. I didn’t even notice the shoes. Here it only looks 50% as good. But still an IN.

  • DinaSews

    IN. For the finger.

  • Glam Dixie

Her hair looks tragic, but the rest is very nice. Reluctant IN.

  • Scimommy

Random q for bitter kittens who use Firefox: when you go to TLo’s main page, do you see the last several posts? I don’t, but if I use Safari, I do. Wondering if it’s my computer or what…

    • Glam Dixie

I use Firefox and I’m seeing all of today’s posts on the main page. Maybe shut it down, delete your browser history and cookies and reload it.

      • Scimommy

        Thanks a bunch, I’ll try.

        • Guest

I also am having problems with this on Internet Explorer. I’ll see a tweet and then come to the site, but I won’t see the post they’re referencing in the tweet. This started yesterday. Also, the “Trending on TLo” box seems to have disappeared. Did that disappear for everyone else?

    • charlotte

Same here. It works with Internet Explorer though.

      • Scimommy

“Same here” means Firefox is not showing the recent posts to you? Yeah, something fishy is going on. I just did as Glam Dixie suggested and it got me *most* of the posts showing up, but not the last one (THIS one). Weird…

        • charlotte

Yes, that’s what I meant. They do show up when I select January in the archive section, so I guess I’m just gonna do that for now.

          • Scimommy

TLo just tweeted that they’re aware of the problems and are working on them.

    • DTLAFamilies

Try hitting SHIFT-F5 and see if that fixes it.

    • marlie

I think it’s because the site overall has been having some issues since yesterday. My front page (Firefox) has been missing the most recent 2-3 posts since yesterday, but just now they all seem to be there, so maybe the site hosts have worked out the kinks.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Yes – this afternoon I haven’t been able to see the new posts that come up, or the arrow forward to them, but I can get to them straight from a link.

      • Scimommy

I guess TLo are still working out the kinks in the new site. I have been going to new posts by clicking on the twitter links, but yes, the main site still doesn’t show the last post when I use Firefox.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Using the archive button at the very bottom of the page is working for me too.

  • LongTall_Sally

IN! I love the geometric elements, and for some reason the sheer doesn’t bug me here as much as it usually does.

  • Nicoclaws

It’s impressive how a laugh can make a look. In ! Plus I like the breastplate.

  • bellafigura1

    Big IN. She was delicious.

  • rabswom

    Definitely in.

  • Nancer

In just for that smile alone! Plus her makeup and hair color is stunning. In a good way! :]

  • Meg

IN. Favorite look of the night.

  • SarahVN

So much IN. This was one of my favorite looks of the night.

  • Qitkat

IN. Awesome dress, even though I hate the hair, and I have to celebrate her win for Top of the Lake. So well deserved.

  • Let it out

In. Not perfect, but striking and unique.

  • suzq

In, in, in, IN! What is out is her hair. Had the cut been a little more precise, or the waves a little more wavy, she could have served up some modern, Gatsby realness. It also looks 110% better with a slip underneath.

    • Spicytomato1

Ooh, good call on imagining a wavy ‘do. I was thinking sleeker would have been better but you are spot on.

    • Adrianna Grężak

I’m beginning to wonder if it was humid that day or something. A lot of these hairstyles that were probably meant to be straight look a little janky

  • littlemac8

IN!! It looked way better on my TV than on my computer monitor but I still love it. Her hair color is tragic: it is way too dark and looks like a home dye job to me,

  • Aidan B

IN. Love the strong, armored feel of it. It’s even more beautiful close up when you can appreciate the beading and different colors; almost a stained glass effect. I still hate the naked shoes, and the hair could have been better. But the dress overrides them in this case.

  • hilsull

    So very IN.

  • titaness25

The shoes. Ugh, the shoes. But the dress is pretty, and she looks so happy, and that’s an IN for me.

  • nannypoo

It’s not the most flattering fit and I don’t like her hair. Also not loving the makeup. She’s having fun, though, and that’s the main thing.

  • teensmom99

IN. i love the color and the texture and thought it just worked on her. And I even thought the hem looked good. I’m calling the mullet on the Golden Globe gowns the GGG–it’s a way of taking it a down a notch so it’s not an Oscars dress. Worked on MIchele D and works here.

  • Latin Buddy

Ladies, I have a question. Do these gals get shoes that are more on the “tight/snug” side so that they can walk/grip them? I can see how having ANY room in heels/shoes could throw off balance (and fall).

    • alyce1213

I think what we see more often than not is that the shoes are too big — there’s always a gap at the heel. But maybe that’s just pumps, not sandals. It amazes me that some women will walk around in shoes that don’t fit their feet.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Hollywood shoe-wearing is a mystery to me! The shoes never seem to fit and yet only Emma Thompson gets rid of them.

  • Sarah

Oh, I adore it. Art Deco FTW!!! I love that it is lined, and I don’t even mind the hem (which makes me feel weird, ‘cuz I usually would). Her hair, however, I will not comment on. Because if you can’t say anything nice…

  • ewes_urn_aim

In- because I love Top Of The Lake.

  • Deedles

IN. She clearly loves it and even admitted her hair was a bit wonky during a RC interview (but it wasn’t like she could do anything about it with a mic and camera shoved in her face).

  • rkdgal

IN. Looks better on her than the model, as the sheer part is more proportional. Giving the manicam the finger was the best. :)

  • http://twitter.com/clairehelene7 clairehelene7

In! Plus it looked great when she was giving her speech.

  • MissFern

Loved it on TV, love it now, love her forever.

  • schadenfreudelicious

IN for Top of the Lake and flippin the mani-cam the bird …

  • CLoverleaf

IN, love it. Bad shoes, though, tsk.

  • gabbilevy

“The kittens found themselves loving Amy Adams’ ’70s-fab gown quite a bit more than we did, voting it OUT.”

    Wait, what?

  • smh4748

I think I like it, except for the sheer part at the bottom. There is already so much to look at on this dress, it seems unnecessarily distracting. But yeah, good to see someone buck the solid-colored satin thing.

  • hmariec19

IN. I loved this. Did not love her hair though.

  • alyce1213

I LOVE this dress passionately, adore it, one of my favorites. It defied some of my dislikes and won, but I don’t mind being proven wrong for a dress like this. This is the best thing she’s ever put on, and would be a WERQ if she’d have zhuzhed her hair a little better.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

    IN … Xena Warrior Nominee.

  • flamingoNW

    OUT

  • imspinningaround

The dress is OK, but I will snatch those earrings right off her head.

  • Shug

Love the dress (though I agree about the hemline), esp the geometric patterns. IN

  • Rhonda Shore

IN! She’s adorable! (And I’m surprised that nobody thought of giving that stupid mani-cam the finger before this!!! Definitely love her to bits for that!)

  • decormaven

The attitude sells it – IN. And snaps for shooting the bird at the Mani-Cam. Probably not the most polite thing to do, but E!’s coverage bugs me no end.

  • Spicytomato1

In. I would have liked to see her hair look a little sleeker but overall I thought she looked fierce. That is one striking gown and her confidence is a perfect match for it.

  • Adrianna Grężak

IN. IN! hate the hem too, but I LOVE this dress. I wish I had a ready-to-wear version

  • rmlamb

In! I LOVE this. Fits the venue and her personality, and is season-appropriate (can’t really stand summery colors like teal or mint green on a January red carpet). I think she looks great. Also, anyone who flips off Giuliana (indirectly) deserves all the praise she can get – everyone wanted to do it, Liz is the only one who did.

  • rumcg66

I don’t LOVE the hem, but I don’t hate it either. And she’s just selling it for me. IN.

  • Matthew Davie

Funny – in photos it looks ill-fitting. But when I watched her on TV, I thought she looked fantastic. But I agree, anyone who flips the bird not just once, but TWICE, in front of Giuliana Rancic basically WINS.

  • shopgirl716

In. It made my Pinterest board and I do not like mullet hems as a rule. She looks great and the dress is interesting and beautiful. I love how the bodice forms an arrow pointing straight to her face saying, “Look at me killing it on the red carpet.”

  • kimmeister

The dress itself is IN. Love the art deco feel to the shapes. The shoes are meh and the hair/earrings are out.

  • http://angrynerdgirl.net/ Jessi03

In. She looks fabulous and happier than I’ve ever seen her on the red carpet.

  • Cate

In! In a sea of forgettable dresses, this one at least is eye-catching.

  • pookiesmom

    IN.

(and by “The kittens found themselves loving Amy Adams’ ’70s-fab gown quite a bit more than we did, voting it OUT.” did you actually mean that we voted it IN, or was that just some extra-snark for our Tuesday afternoon?)

  • SouthernGirlRena

I love that she looks so happy and confident. That said, I gotta go with out. I really don’t like her hair and her lip color is too bright for her complexion. If I HAD pick a favorite see-through lace over shorter dress dress, this one would be near the top of the list but that isn’t saying much.

  • Introspective

in! her confidence is oozing from every inch of her body language. she feels good, and it was one of the more memorable looks of the night without being fug. that alone is a win in a sea of either crazy looking or unmemorable outfits.

  • Henry Maler

IN, but with the caveat that the hem is the most hateful, awful thing in the world.

    Everything else looks great though.

  • Nazzzy

OUT, love the texture and the color but it does nothing for her.

  • IraKi

IN! Xena Warrior princess realness! love it!

  • EveEve

IN! I have no issues with anything but her hair. But then, I always have issues with her hair.

  • Laylalola

    Out. For the manicure.

  • MoHub

    In, without reservation.

  • Jenna Marie

    In. She’s looking fabulous.

  • amanda d

I love the colour and texture so much that the hem and sheerness aren’t bothering me as much as they should. I think the dress could take a heavier shoe, but that might just be me.

    • Imasewsure

No you are absolutely right although I also hate the shoes they showed on the model too… Nice modern pump would have worked great with this

  • luludexter

IN despite the hem and shoes! she makes me forget them and focus on what’s great about this

  • AzSportsGirl

Out. BETTER BRA!!!!! How hard is that? Even I can get that right wtih a proper fitting at Macy’s

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Better bra? How? I think her boobs look perfect in this.

  • Allie Carter

IN. Look at that smile – it could sell coals to Newcastle. The dress is fun and not-boring.

  • Sophia Finfer

    In. Definitely in.

  • Lindsay Donohue

I love her so much, so it absolutely kills me to say OUT. If she had accessorized better, and had done something, ANYTHING, other than what she did with her hair and make up, this could be debatable.

  • Meri

In! Great color, and I love the earrings.

  • TheLaurenJean

    In!

  • random_poster

IN because it’s a great dress and overall look for her. I hope she never goes back to the blonde hair. Her eye color pops with the darker color hair.

  • Suse

In ~ with better shoes. I miss her blonde tresses.

  • Jangle57

Since I’m not an Elisabeth Moss fan – not that I dislike her, just haven’t watched anything she’s in – I can be pretty objective about this and objecitvely, it’s an OUT – hate the hemline, hate the sheerness of the lower half and the mini-ness of the actual dress part and her hair. But she does look really happy about how she looks and that’s a plus.

  • VioletFem

IN.A personal best for her in my opinion.

  • MilaXX

I really dislike the hem, but otherwise I like the dress on her. However, I wish she had really gone for it with the hair; either full on messy or just blow it out regular. I’m pretending the shoes don’t exist. I will say this; not everyone has the foot for naked sandals.

  • GinaGeo

IN. It reminds me of Rose’s staircase dress. I think they should both get boozy and make out with Leo.

  • Jean Genetic

In! The hem makes sense with the repeating pattern of the beading on the bodice. I usually hate those types of hems, but this is one that works. Plus, love the subdued color in what’s really a daring gown.

  • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

    XENA.

And bless her forever for fucking with the mani-cam.

  • Imasewsure

IN I liked the dress because of the blend of upscale beaded t-shirt/gown styling and I could even ignore the shoes which I hate.

  • Eovaai

    IN. She looks great

  • JasmineAM

    In!!!!!! Love it.

  • msdamselfly

IN For the reasons you listed

  • lalahartma

In, the first sheer dress I’ve liked!

  • theotherjdekay

    Definitely IN.

  • Slanted & Enchanted

IN. The longer I look at it, the more I like it.

  • ailujailuj

totally agree… she was rocking everything. I generally hate these really overly designed geometric mosaics but I kinda like this one. I just don’t think she has the right body type for it. But – I had fun watching her–isn’t that what it’s all about– me?

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

IN – wish it wasn’t sheer and I am unconvinced by the v-shaped hem, but I think the dress is stunning and this is possibly the best she’s ever looked.

  • MRC210

In. Love the dress, both the color and cut. Bad shoes, though.

  • Pennymac

IN! Mostly for the attitude, but I really liked this immediately!

  • Lilah

I think she looks fantastic. In.

  • ShaoLinKitten

I love it. She looks great. IN.

  • tallgirl1204

I love the top 3/4 of the dress, so for that it’s an in. The fabric is amazing.

  • Janice Bartels

In- the light is not catching it in these photos the way it did during the ceremony. The red of those crystals was much brighter and I loved the geometric design and the earrings complimenting it- so different and brave. Plus bonus points for flipping off the stupid manicam.

  • Richard Banger

IN. She gave the stupid mani-cam the finger TWICE. From that moment on, she looked like a frigging GODDESS to me

  • amanda siegelson

i gasped in appreciation when i saw her for the first time and i still love it to death. plus i think you may have to get over the open toe shoe thing – not every open toed shoe has toes looking weird. ms. moss’s toes look just fine to me.

  • sunflower

IN. It doesn’t look nearly as good in these photos as it did on television! That said, I don’t care for the hem; I wish it were just full length, and also, not sheer, which I didn’t even notice until the interviewer mentioned it. But I love the color and think that she sells it

  • wisdomy

IN. IN IN IN IN IN. I love it, she looks thrilled to be in it, and I don’t even think her toes are all that grippy. Most of all, I’m delighted that she finally realized that she’s young and hot and her career is taking off and went with the “I want bitches TALKING ABOUT ME!” dress.

  • Lily-Rygh

I think the dress is too stiff and her hair looks a mess, but her earrings are to die and she definitely deserved her win. So I’m going IN, just for love’s sake.

  • LeelaST

IN Love her & appreciate her going for uniqueness! The dress doesn’t really fit her all that well though. Hate the hem.

  • Danielle

IN because she flipped off the idiot mani cam.

  • Garcia Loca

IN, because the dress is exquisite. And also because Lizzie flipped off Giuliana’s stupid mani-cam.

  • Sarah

In, I actually love everything about the dress. And she looks radiant in it.

  • PastryGoddess

    IN

Just for the finger in the mani-cam alone

  • MGMcD

In – The texture and uniqueness are fabulous. I like the hem, but, I hate to say it cause I love her, it might need a taller (read: leggier) woman to work it. Makeup and hair look DIY to me though. I kind of wish she hadn’t worn such a focus pulling lip and had done sleeker hair to let the dress shine.

  • Kelly

Out. Yes, it’s bold, but it’s too tight and unforgiving in the wrong places, and god, am I tired, tired, tired of sheer long whatevers over minis.

  • sienna elm

Hate the shoes – love the dress! And how her earrings pick up the triangles from the dress. IN!!

  • lesmaha

Out. It looks awkward to me. And the hair is not with it.

  • butterflysunita

IN for wearing an interesting dress and for laughing and looking like she’s having fun! It’s quite refreshing.

  • Lisa_Co

I love her so much that even though I’m not 100% on this look, she gets an IN.

  • CT14

In. I agree with the complaints, but overall an in.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

IN. I love the hemline, and she can work that dress just fine. I am disappointed she did not have killer shoes to go along (ask! the “invisible” shoe!), but it’s still good.

  • mommyca

    IN! She looks amazing…

  • Tatiana Luján

I love the dress and hate the shoes.

  • Jessica Sabat

    IN! love the geometrics

  • GeoDiva

IN….because she is coo! She also said “shit” when she got her award. My kind of gal!

  • SugarSnap108

Wow, I’m an outlier on this one. OUT: I don’t like the hem or the (mesh?) cap sleeves, and it seems poorly fit. With the sad shoes, bad hair, and that lip color, it just adds up to a miss for me.

  • Janet B

    Out: Shoes & hair.

Interesting dress, but not very flattering on a non-model.

  • lundibleu

In for how she looks overall. Not keen on the shoes or the hemline though, but she looks too happy to vote out.

  • another_laura

I didn’t see the show, just the stills and I’m going to give this an out, although it’s close. Hate the shoes and don’t love the dress that much, which is a surprise to me, too. Just overall, no.

  • rebeemoon

IN! I really love it. And sorry, but I adore the hem. It keeps it from feeling way too heavy, and gives you a little surprise (in a good way) when you scroll down. DESPITE the awful toe-grippers.

  • elemspbee

In. She looks great. Love the different color beadings on the dress. Makes all the difference.

  • Trickytrisha

IN. Love, love, love it. The dress looks art deco, the colors are stunning. I even like the hem. She seems to have darkened her hair, which goes well with the dress. The shoes and earrings are the only things I’d change.

  • CatherineRhodes

IN. I’m liking the Art Deco feel to it all. Plus — Top of the Lake. Good on ya, Elisabeth!

  • Daisy Walker

OUT. I don’t like what it does to her midsection and, of course, the hem. I want to like it, because the close up really shows the great beading/workmanship,but no.

  • jen

    In! She looks awesome.

  • Pterodactyl111

    IN!!!! Love it.

  • largishbearishAtlish

my biggest fear is if she gets near open flame…will the dress melt?? what IS that made of? gets an IN just for the ‘unlike most everything out there’ and the fact she is CLEARLY having a blast!

    • snarkykitten

      Fruit Roll-Ups

  • AlisonS

….I want to like it but the fucked in the limo hair after 3 days without a shower are KILLING it for me. OUT.

  • jilly_d

This didn’t photograph well for how SPECTACULAR it was on camera. It was one of my favorites of the night – Lis was serving up Targaryen dragon realness. IN IN IN

  • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

Love the dress, the beading, the colours, the hem and the big confident smile. Total IN!

  • Katherine Leay

IN. I like the way she looks, i dont like the hem, but i can live with that. Nice make up too.

  • TooTrue2b

Could not be more IN. Love it!

  • crt

this is the only dress with that hem and a sheer skirt that hasn’t sent me into a rage. in.

  • Lorelei_D

    IN! IN! IN!

  • Jeannie Shmina Greenwald

In. It’s different, and interesting, and it looks good on her. Don’t like the high/low hem thing but whatever. She’s wonderful.

  • jw_ny

    IN

I typically dislike the shear gown over mini, as well not a fan of the hemline either, but for some extremely odd reason…I like it all here (except the shoes). I think its the color and pattern that makes it a win for me. I hate her earrings, and her makeup, or lack thereof, is not flattering.

  • Danielle West

In. Other than the god awful hair, I really like this look for her.

    • Glitterberries

      Jinx! Ha!

  • Glitterberries

Like the dress, not liking the hair so much.

  • Kelly Sowers

Why is this even up for discussion? IN
Not only does she look great, she looks so gloriously happy.

  • MauveSF

    IN. I loved it.

  • http://figgylicious.blogspot.com/ Figgy

IN! I love the shoulders and the color and she looks fab.

  • quitasarah

in In IN a thousand times IN. She looks gorgeous.

  • stagmania

IN. One of the more interesting dresses of the night.

  • katiemckinnie

IN!! I loved this as soon as I saw her on the carpet. If I block out the shoes, it’s a total win for me.

  • mellifera

IN! The wine colored beading really gave the dress depth when she was on the stage. (If it had been only black bugle beads, I don’t think that it would have worked.) Also, I am a formerly lurking BK, (since PR Season 4?) who had to post because of this dress.

  • GoAwayKardash

    IN! She’s never looked better.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

It’s not a dress that I love, even on the runway, but she looks very confident and happy, and I too love Elizabeth for giving that silly mani-cam the finger, so IN!

  • Caitlin O’Brien

    in. she looks adorable

  • MartyBellerMask

This is IN. I don’t like the hem either and her hair is problematic. But WOW, she is a knockout. But I may disagree a bit and call this a DO ME dress…

  • Big Bear

So far in that I’m bleeding.

  • guest2visits

So much more beautiful on my tv – it looks darker in this pic. It was a great looking dress. IN

  • prisma

I just registered with Disqus so that I could vote–IN–I love it!

  • Fred Vaughn

IN, like that’s even a question.

  • trisker

IN. Weird but she’s rockin’ it.

  • altalinda

IN! It was so striking when she accepted her award, and moved beautifully as she walked. DIslike her ‘do, but whatever

  • Courtney

In. I don’t mind the breastplate feel, but the confidence really sells the whole look. And I have to love anyone who doesn’t take the fools at E! seriously.

  • UsedtobeEP

In. Nobody gets an out when they are that happy. I don’t hate the hair color. I like her with brown hair.

  • http://howtofaint.tumblr.com/ How to Faint

IN, because she looks and clearly feels great and because I’m seriously feeling the whole Xena, Warrior Nominee thing. :D

  • quiltrx

IN, I think this dress is completely awesome and I love that she was confident enough to wear it, and proceeded to OWN it on the RC!

  • anneland

IN. What’s not in about it? Everything looks great.

  • Call me Bee

Love this. And you’d have gripping toes, too, in 5 inch heels. There’s no way not to… Anyway IN!

  • In_Stitches

IN, Xena Warrior, Nominee! She was, maybe, my favorite of the night. Love the fabric, the construction, the shape, the color…it’s a gorgeous piece of art. Shoes were wisely chosen and I like the idea behind the hair, if not the execution. Loved the mani as well haha.

  • CeeQ

Tough call. Hate the shoes, it’s all wrong. The hem is weird. I dislike her hair. Her earrings are fantastic but I’m not sure about the make up. If only the hem wasn’t like that in the front. This dress would so be in…..as it is though…OUT.

  • phrenk

Everything about this works for me except the shoes. IN.

  • LaSylphide

Cons: t-shirt sleeves; mullet hem; messy hair; so-so makeup
Pros: gorgeous fabric; gorgeous earrings; she looks happy
    Marginal, but IN.

  • demidaemon

I have to say IN here and, quite possible, personal best. Love everything about it, except the shoes. Plus she finally won an award (not for Mad Men, but at least she won something) and she gave the stupid Mani-Cam the finger. ADORE HER FOREVER NOW!

  • Tricia

IN. I think she looks pretty fantastic, except for the shoes.

  • conniemd

Out. Hate the sheer below the pubic line.

  • Lune

In because she’s in it. I think she gave it what it wanted in order to come alive.

  • Renaissance_Man_ATL

    IN!

  • hmatz

In! She’s fierce. And while I’m not crazy about the hem, the rest of the dress is so interesting that I don’t care.

  • mdcoon127

    IN – drop the mike.

  • Jessica Brinks

IN! So much in! I didn’t see who wear it, I just caught a glimpse of the dress that night and I fell in LOOOOO-OOOVE! OMG. I want it.

  • Rand Ortega

IN. I’m obsessed with Oxblood (color) right now. Everything works for me except the shoes & the earrings should be silver.

  • ThesisMonkey

IN! Love it, minus the hair color.

  • lizajane1776

IN! It’s too bold and she’s too happy for me not to love it.

  • RuthGo

1000 times in. To me, this was one of the top looks of the night, right up there with Cate and Lupita. I just thought it was a stunner, fit her like a glove and clearly made her feel like a million bucks. In, in, in.

  • Vainte

    Klingon red carpet. Love It.

    • Laylalola

      Lord Xenu, you mean.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Out. It seemed molded to the wrong body bits. And I HATED her hair.

  • majorbedhead

Nope. It’s too armor-ish for me, and I loathe those high-low hems.

  • Snailstsichr

IN. Like it better on her than the version on the model. The earrings are killer.

  • livesarah

It’s not to my taste at all, but clearly suits hers. I’ll give it an ‘out’ (and definitely the shoes are!) but I feel bad because I LOVE how genuinely happy she looks in it.

  • bringbackbeatles

IN. I question the fit in the torso and I wish the hem was adjusted more for her height, but it’s really interesting and cool looking and her attitude and confidence sold it. Shoes need to go though.

  • Reality TV Casting

    out out

  • Bethany Roullett

Out. Nope nope. I can see through it.

  • semirose

IN. Not loving the hem but it’s a sheer I can get behind and she just looks so happy and amazing in it. Plus, that gif of her giving the mani cam the finger is my new favourite.

  • rainwood1

IN. I thought it looked great in motion and part of the reason for that is the hem.

  • wiggligirl

This was actually one of my favorite looks of the night. Unusual without being flat-out crazy, gorgeous color and it had a sexy reptilian alien queen slink to it that I liked. Plus the high neckline give us just a touch of Peggy, in spite of the sheerness.

  • Diego!

IN. That was a really difficult dress to wear and she is rocking it and enjoying wearing it too. I think she looked gorgeous. I saw her dress and caught my attention right away. Big IN for me :)

  • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

    IN. She looks great.

  • kayleymaybe

IN. I like it overall, although it has some problems.

  • Sarah Rothko

tre chic ,hot.looked fabulous under the lights-made for nightime.
    j mendels neo-deco style rules.
    love that plum/wine color too.
n.b:jesicca chastain should be banned pronto from wearing black.its not a color!black is such a waste on perfect youth with her hair& lumenscient skin!she should be now& forever in flowing pale silks/organzasxx

  • NYCGlamourpuss

Love everything about it except for that V cut out at the bottom. IN!

  • Sarah Rothko

im not even a dress maker but that dress makes me want to make clothes.
    give mendels an award too.
although i see his pre-order gowns cost like $19,000!

  • sweetlilvoice

IN! I really want to touch this dress…

  • mjude

    IN

  • carnush

IN. It’s unusual and glamorous. Go get it Peggy.

  • supri_supri

In! Unique dress, loved her hair, and she was so at ease.

  • Watts

In! I liked it when they showed her close-up during the nomination and then RAVED about it when she was on stage and I could see the full-length.

  • Badriya Al-Badi’a

Out, I like the idea of the dress but the placement of all the dividing lines does not do flattering things for any part of her. And I don’t think the gold earrings were the right choice, even if their shape is a good match to the dress.

  • AmeliaEve

IN – I normally hate the hi-lo hem, but here it works with the diagonal patterns in the beading. And she just looks so happy and confident in it.

  • NBG

IN. Joy wins. So does flipping Guiliana off.

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

This is a hard call. I hate her hair color and so-called style. Love the graphic, fun earrings. Ambivalent about the shoes. Love the attitude. Hate the hem. Hate the fit on the dress. I think I have to go with OUT, albeit sadly.

  • formerlyAnon

In, mostly for attitude and an interesting color scheme.

    • raeb23

exactly, i don’t usually like hems like that but she’s working it…in!

  • HM3

    IN!

  • Stella Zawistowski

I love it. I love the pattern, the colors, even the fishtail hem. IN.

  • PeggyOC

In. I think she looks fab and looks like she knows it.

  • crash1212

    IN!

  • mhlmh

    IN

  • Sam Erin

Hate the look, loved the mani-cam flip-off. Overall: OUT.

  • Claudia Fernandes

    in!

  • bookish

I hate how sheer it is, but overall she looks so goddamn gorgeous I have to say IN.

  • Joanna

    IN. Love it unreservedly.

  • E. D.

In, especially now that I see it’s not all black. The shoes could be better.

  • MaryMcClelland

IN because she’s working it and she tried something different. With minor improvements it would be fabulous!

  • rissa42210

In. I hate the hem of the skirt and question the fit through the bodice, but it’s interesting and pretty, and she looks confident and happy.

  • http://anibundel.wordpress.com/ anibundel

    IN IN IN IN IN.

  • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

In! Great color for her, really interesting without being weird, and confidence looks good on her.

  • Jessica O’Connell

Hate the shoes and not crazy about the hem, but she looks great overall. I say IN!

  • Shawn EH

In! Love the earring accessorizing, I think she looks a little bit Goth, which suits her. Don’t look perky if it’s not your thing.

  • Tracy_Flick

In. Love the look, love her attitude. I hate the hair. It looks like what a 90s goth kid would do when forced to be a bit conventional for a family picture (not that I would know… ahem). “FINE but I’m not going to make it look pretty, ok?”

  • Austen Jane

    IN.

  • Valdri8

IN! At least she is not gripping with fucked up feet! Disclaimer: I have fucked up feet, and as even a normal human I try not to subject them to the public.

  • webslice33

    IN..she looks lovely

  • Rrroza

IN. Amazing dress, even with the hem.

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

IN IN IN. my favorite dress of the evening. and she was having so much fun in it.

  • judybrowni

Except…that weird pattern makes both lizzie and the model look lumpy in the middle.

  • Maya

    in. she loves it.

  • Lianne S

This was by FAR my favourite look of the night. IN IN IN

  • Sunshine16

In. Even though I hate the way the horizontal bands create weird rolls, she’s owning the look.

  • jesuiskate

IN. Super interesting and she looks happy in it. Points off for the shoes, but that doesn’t make it an out.

  • camdiggidy

Dress: IN. My god, it is fabulous. Hair, shoes, jewels: OUT. But a better hairstyle could have turned the whole look around. What was UP with the amount of home-done hair at these awards?

  • lunchcoma

In. I’m not a huge fan of her hair, but I love everything else.

  • Liz Lake

IN! She looked fabulous. Even that mullet hem and the mini skirt look under the longer sheer skirt were not enough to turn me off this look. She was feeling sassy and she brought it with this look, I liked the color and the texture of the dress even if the red carpet and the burgundy clashed. Nice accessorizing. Nice nails. Makeup wasn’t perfect…. but I am so, so, so happy she didn’t go for the slicked back look the model had.

  • jjtxgrrl

    IN!!

  • melanie0866

IN, What happened to the sassy short blonde hair??

  • AnneElliot

IN. I love how the earrings kind of echo the geometric shapes in the dress. I do hate the hem, though.

  • mila_8

In! I thought she looked gorgeous during her acceptance speech.

  • jangma

IN! Even with her stringy hair and unpolished makeup, she obviously feels like a million bucks in this dress. Her attitude is everything.

  • barbarienne

You say “Xena warrior nominee” like it’s a bad thing. IN IN IN.

In all the other photos I saw of this dress, the burgundy was really dark. I thought it was all black. Seeing the color makes me love it even more.

  • mskgb

    Xena Warrior Nominee = IN!

  • Mira

The best dress !!! She looks like a rock star! LOVE it forever! IN!

  • VicD

    IN.

  • colorjunky

IN, she looks edgy, confident and elegant all at once. Hair’s a disaster albeit.
