Elisabeth Moss in Georges Hobeika at the Audi Celebrates Golden Globes Weekend

Posted on January 11, 2014

This is one of those instances where we love the idea of the outfit more than the outfit itself.

“Mad Men” star Elisabeth Moss attends the Audi Celebrates Golden Globes Weekend at Cecconi’s Restaurant in Los Angeles, California in a Georges Hobeika jumpsuit paired with an Edie Parker clutch, Rupert Sanderson pumps, and Jennifer Meyer jewelry.

Because our first reaction was a happily surprised “Check her shit out!” since we’re not used to seeing her in something like this. Not that she doesn’t go for sexy, but her sexy tends to be tiny bandage dresses, not sheer catsuits. It’s a fun idea for her. She can go bland very easily in pictures so her style should be a little bold and fun, when she has the opportunity to be so. But the waist and the hem sit too high for this to look anything but awkward to our eyes. And strangely enough, we don’t think that clutch goes with the look. If you’re going to do the sexy catsuit, then get appropriately glamorous accessories to go with it. This was not the time for a novelty bag. She’s already wearing a novelty outfit. Save that clutch for a standard gown.

  • She clearly likes herself wearing it, which counts for a lot, but I think the pants are an unflattering shape. Slimmer and longer would have been more attractive, I think.

  • Mismarker

She looks confident and sexy. Bonus points for having that bod.

    • bellafigura1

She is rocking the hell out of this hard-to-wear outfit. How can a fashionista not give her props for this? It’s fierce.

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluk

That puny, little chain bracelet is sad.

  • butterflysunita

I like it. And I actually love the clutch.

    • I’m with you, I think she’s pulling this off. One of the few instances of a sheer/not sheer combo that works as a design, to my eye, although I would prefer if the pants were a little bit longer.

      • Lisa_Co

Like it but agree the waist sits a little too high. Also I really miss her cute blond pixie; she’s back to Peggy Olson hair.

  • understateddiva

Just because you *can* wear it, doesn’t mean you should. Love the confidence, don’t love the look.

  • No to the clutch, and the hairstyle is too mature.

  • SewingSiren

Did she just get off of a horse.

    • MilaXX

Yeah, nit the best pose, but fierce jumpsuit nonetheless.

    • Qitkat

I can’t stop laughing at this.

    • Lilah

Exactly. Do not stand like that.

  • LeelaST

There’s no excuse for anyone to wear this. It’s just tacky.

  • boweryboy

Oh boy. I’m not loving it. It’s kind of awkward. If she must do this I would’ve styled her with a statement cuff in silver high on one arm, and a sparkly black clutch in the other hand.

    • That’s a good idea. We don’t see upper-arm bracelets often enough. Even some of that momentarily-chic hand jewellery would have been an improvement.

  • ashtangajunkie

So close, but the bottom half leans toward tragic crotch situation.

  • MilaXX

I like the jumpsuit. however, I do agree the hemline on the pants is awkward. It may have been better if it was another inch longer. I also think it needs a skinny black on black rhinestone belt. I don’t dislike the bag, but I could see a more glam looking one working much better.

  • Nancy Karpen

Jewelry? It need some bangles or a great pair of earrings. A little longer would have been good, but for once the crotch fits.

  • Judy_J

One thumb up (for the top half).

  • OldPandaDayz

I like that it seems sexy and edgier, and her confidence in it; but yeah it doesn’t seem to wow me as a whole. I’m coveting that clutch for myself though!

  • Constant Reader

I like this more than I thought I would. I agree on a more glamorous clutch and maybe a blingy cuff bracelet.

  • EveEve

She keeps trying. One of these days she’ll figure out who she is.

  • AmeliaEve

It is probably a weird quibble, but I don’t like the way the bodice panels just sort of stop. They should either go all the way up to the shoulder seam or taper into an interesting shape. Overall I think she is selling this outfit, but that distracts me.

  • decormaven

This is not the time to wear a tiny chain bracelet & miniscule ring. If you’re going to put it out there, put it out there with stronger accessories.

  • d4divine

I love the outfit…but the tailoring or it makes her looks short and squat.

  • Pennymac

That weird pants length makes this whole thing look boxy. Still, its a look.
Oh, who am I kidding? I hate jumpsuits, just on principle. This one included.

  • helene

i like it a lot. I like her a lot. the length is a problem, longer would have worked better. the waist doesn’t bother me. Am i the only one who misses the blonde hair?

    • phylora

I prefer her as a blond, too.

  • suzinrva

If the waist were lower we’d see navel which would take the outfit to an altogether questionable and distracting taste level.

  • Needs a metallic belt.

  • LaSylphide

Why Miss Olson. You’ve got side boobs!

  • filmcricket

I’d love to see this away from a black background. It’s hard to tell what’s the pants, whats the backdrop, and what are shadows. The length of the pants could work if they are as slim cut as I hope they are, although I agree that the waist sitting half an inch lower would be an improvement regardless. The hair needs zhuzing, and a statement cuff would help a lot too. J’ADORE the clutch. We wants it, precious. Also, congrats on your bod, Peggy.

  • Glam Dixie

This gives her such odd proportions, I like the idea, but not the execution, I’m afraid.

  • alyce1213

Puh-leaze. Awkward censorship panels, chunky cropped pants. I think this is awful, almost jokey.

  • shelley514

    1) Close your legs dear.
    2) I like the idea of it . . . the execution, not so much.
    3) I would have liked to have seen it from the back.

    • ailujailuj

have to agree w/ #1 unless you are a tall tree or shift your weight ever-so-slightly on one leg or are wielding a large caliber weapon of some sort. gunmetal was the new black last yr.

  • rondele

Where is her short blonde hair? I think that would make this outfit look so much better. Except: yuck! Illusion netting! Other than that it is sexy and she looks good. Some metallic somewhere would be a nice addition, though. Belt, shoes?

    • MilaXX

I think they are filming. If so her hair may be Peggy Olsen brown.

  • quiltrx

I can’t decide whether I like this or not. It looks short in the crotch–or at least she’s standing like it feels that way. And something about the bodice looks too unfinished–“the top isn’t finished, so just fuse the pattern pieces to this sheer stuff and let’s go.”
    I like the clutch.

  • Trickytrisha

Hmm, all kinds of awkward for me. I adored her blonde hair, so I’m trying to picture her in this outfit with it. Nope, still wouldn’t like the jumpsuit.

  • Qitkat

Urrp. Kudos for daring to wear this, it’s not offensively sheer, but the pants length makes her legs look stumpy. Needs some statement bling. Clutch would be cute with a more casual look.

  • Miss wks

You know what woulda been cool! If she got a black marker and drew lines down her arm to her wrist….

  • ailujailuj

you know… this little getup reminds me that I’ve been meaning to suggest (rather meekly) that a TLo review of some of the Syfy tv series fashion (a few good shows but mostly mediocre ones unfortunately – so might be quite challenging) would be interesting. I am currently test-driving one on Hulu (originally aired ’09) “Riese: Kingdom Falling” – not sure how I feel about it yet but some of the set/costuming is becoming interesting…

  • CommentsByKatie

Oh my god. I adore this. THIS is how you do sheer panels! I might have preferred another 1/2 inch panel on the side seam, though, instead of the visible serged seam, but that’s a small quibble.

  • lifeisastory

It looks like it used to fit, but then it got shrunk at the cleaners.

  • Cheryl

Love the top part, hate the bottom. Total mixed feeling on this.

  • This is horrifying. Grandmother from the waist down, oversized pasties from the waist up.

  • ThesisMonkey

I want to blame the bottom-half on the way she’s standing, but no, I think the pants are just unflattering. I agree with the uncles about the clutch in theory, but I’m totally fine with it here. She’s a girl who can pull it off. Also, her lip color is pretty.

  • cocohall

She looks like she is going for “Sexy Super Hero!” That stance! As if she just arrived on the RC by jet pack. “Any my Safety Pin Pocketbook converts to a weapon. Stand Back before I PIN YOU!”

  • marlie

I like this, but I don’t love it. Maybe it’s because it’s a sheer top that doesn’t make me feel like the ladystar’s boobs are being put on display for the wold to see. Also, is it possibly that there are TWO jumpsuits in one day that I (mostly) like?! And I love the clutch, but it’s a little too cutesy for this look.

  • msdamselfly

I think she looks fantastic! A personal best , Hair and makeup are flawless and the outfit fits perfectly

  • Tracy_Flick

The proportions are stumpifying. Longer pants maybe? Otherwise, I like it. I want that clutch.

  • Nancer

  • Kent Roby

This would be kind of awesome with the bold gold coin Versace belt.

  • @Biting Panda

  • brown-eyed girl

Love her. Drives me crazy that she always just misses with her look.

  • GillianHolroyd

I can’t think of anything to mitigate the awkward proportions due to the very long rise of the pant since lowering the sheer panels would expose her navel. So I’d convert the pants to a skirt and stuff her hair into a short blonde wig.
