Sigh. Better. I guess. Someone said it last post, but I too wish that she’d wear things designed for the pregnant shape rather than just wearing a larger version of whatever came down the runway. This is very Be My Valentine.

    • marlie

To an extent, I agree, but this particular dress is rather unsalvageable, if you ask me. I don’t like it on the model either, so for me it’s not a matter of it being scaled up in size a bit.

    • Spreecord

I am fully onboard with ending the style normalization of pregnancy. I’m genuinely happy we’re not forced into Peter Pan collared gestational smocks anymore, but there’s got to come a point where we say “enough is e-goddamn-nough. I’ve got my spleen in my lungs, my lungs in the back on my throat, and I’ve got no fucking clue where my feet are. They style train stops here, with prejudice.”

      • TropiCarla

Ha ha — I love this comment. I was a pregnant lady a little over a year ago and my most disconcerting moment was when my stomach rumbled from somewhere behind my right breast. The style train stops here indeed.

        • *Decision to be child-free reinforced*. There really are some things about the miracle of birth that they don’t tell you!

          • sojourneryouth

PREACH! They don’t tell you, or act like it’s not big deal. Having a tiny human take over my body and kick all my organs to Timbuktu is a HUGE deal, thank you very much.

        • Spreecord

I’ve had 4 kids. Flats and yoga pants all the way. I was a miserable, bloated, crabby-assed pregnant woman, and the idea of aspiring beyond “mostly clean” was a bridge too fucking far for me.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

Everything you just said. It’s better than her last venture, but yes – it looks like she’s just wearing bigger versions of the regular dress rather than a dress made for a pregnant woman.

    • uprightcitizen

In a couple of decades of watching friends and family bear children, I’ve noticed that some women gain weight only as a “bump” and others gain it kind of more all over. Most Hollywood actresses start out tiny, so they fit in the former category, but Barrymore seems to be a little more in the latter one. If you look at it, the dress fits her well in the shoulders, arms, bust and hips, so I don’t know what a maternity dress would offer that this doesn’t. (And this was obviously specially made and cut for her.) Sure, it’s a bit “mother of the bride,” but it’s both happy and kind of hippie-dippy, so it’s totally her. I would agree that the shoes are awfully high for a pregnant woman, except that her feet and toes look prettier than half of the women on the red carpet … no gripping claws or swelling. I’m inclined to think she nailed this one, if only because she looks like her sweet self and pretty.

      • DebbieLovesShoes

I agree! This dress would look weird on anyone else, but it’s perfect for her.

      • Jenna Marie

I agree with your observation about weight gain, as I am almost 9 months pregnant and (somewhat unfortunately) in the category of all over weight gain. However, I disagree that traditional maternity clothes wouldn’t help Drew’s situation. I’m all for progressive maternity fashion, but I’ve found that the only clothes that are flattering these days are the traditional maternity cuts. These clothes accentuate the beautiful belly and draw attention away from anything a little less flattering. Drew is beautiful, but I don’t think she’s the right woman to be wearing these clothes.

  • Aidan B

Perfectly suited to her. She looks happy as a clam…with a pearl on the way.

    • KayeBlue

What a sweet and lovely description!

      • Aidan B

Thank you! Not sure why someone downvoted; I really was being complimentary!

        • ThatVampinLady

The downvoter was clearly mad that they didn’t come up with such a cute turn of phrase.

    • Vtg Fashion Library

Her daughter’s name is Pearl. 🙂

      • Melanie

Her daughter’s name is Olive. Maya Rudolph’s daughter’s name is Pearl. And this is why I will never amount to anything – too much brain real estate taken up with the names of celebrity offspring.

        • scoobynacks

People need to watch what they say when pregnant celebrities come in for an ultrasound. The wrong word sets them off, and they name their child after it. One of these days, the doctor will compare a fetus to the size of a piece of Kibble and there we’ll be with little Kibble Sudeikis gracing the cover of People Magazine.

  • MK03

Meh. It’s a little “walking valentine” for me.

  • Jackie Stewart

She looks so happy that she’s making it hard to dislike this, but I’m just not feeling it.

    • Janice Bartels

I didn’t like it at first, but it is growing on me. Her hair and makeup look great, her nails are cute and appropriate. The dress is different, nothing I would ever wear, but she looks radiant.

  • redhead with tattoos

I feel like the dress is very *her,* in concept, but utterly disappointing in every single way. Bad fit, bad makeup, bad hair, bad accessories, bad everything. Too many other pregnant ladies nailed it last night for her to get away with this.

  • giddypony

Love this so much more than the skin tight stuff .other pregnant stars wear.

  • Maryanne525

I think she looks lovely. It’s not my favorite thing I’ve ever seen & it reads as a little overwhelming with the all over floral, but I think she’s beautiful.

  • Brittany

Right dress for the right girl – but not necessarily flattering either way. It’s hard for me to fussed about it though because A) she’s prego and B) if you compare her body type to the other prego stars, skintight would NOT have been the way to go. It just felt right for this time in her life and for who she is as a person, even if I don’t love it.

  • ovarB

The dress bugs me but this is definitely a Drew style with the floral. Detest the high/low hem.

  • oatmealpie

When she was presenting, she said she was “sent out wrong.” Did they give her the wrong intro or send her out at the wrong time?

  • Little_Olive

It’s certainly not perfect, but I really like it 1) for being romantic, 2) very her, 3) while not overly maternal (except for the hair, on a second look) and 4) not another belly hugger.

It’s stunning on the model, I must say.

  • marlie

I wanted to like this on her, really. But all I’m getting is Valentine’s Day gift wrapping with dyed-to-match shoes – on Drew AND on the model. I love her makeup and her clutch, though.

    • kimmeister

I think it would have looked better had she matched the shoes to the magenta rather than the red.

  • Snailstsichr

On the show, it looked like she applied her lipstick “outside the lines.” I’m glad she looks happy, but her lips were very disconcerting to view.

  • Spreecord

Honey, there are Pregnant Lady Fashion Tropes for a reason. It’s because they work. Find yourself a long dress with an empire waist and for God’s sake, switch those heels out for flats. The red carpet is no reason to put yourself through Pregnant Heel Hell.

    • barbarienne

Seriously! I didn’t even notice the dress, because the first thing I saw was a pregnant person wearing high heels, and all I could think was WHY?

Maybe she has shortened achilles tendons? Maybe she’s lucky to not be retaining water in her feet like most other pregnant people?

      • filmcricket

They all do it. Cate Blanchett showed up 8 months pregnant in 3-inch Louboutins at the Oscars once. CZJ was about to pop when she sang live and I don’t think she was in flats either.

        • Aaminah Khan

I guess I’m alone in thinking that three inches is…not that high a heel? To me, two inches and below feel like flats, and three inches is still pretty comfortable. To these ladies, who are used to stepping out in six inch heels on the reg, maybe three just doesn’t feel like all that much. I know it doesn’t to me.

          • marlie

The matter of heels or no heels should be based on whether or not a ladystar is comfortable, not whether or not she’s pregnant. I had a friend who wore 3in heels until the day she delivered, and another who ditched the “fancy” shoes 3 months in.

          • Aaminah Khan

Agreed. Pretty sure Vicki Posh wore sky-high heels during her pregnancy. If it didn’t bother her, what business is it of ours?

I’ve worn four inch heels to get groceries just because I felt like dressing up that day. I ain’t gonna judge what a woman chooses to wear on her feet as long as she feels happy and comfortable.

          • marlie

The same should apply to form-fitting vs. loose clothing. Also, an ugly dress is an ugly dress, even if you’re pregnant. I don’t think a ladystar gets a pass in an ugly dress just because she’s preggo.

          • Sartorial_She

Agreed. I wore high heels all through each of my pregnancies because they didn’t bother me a bit.

          • filmcricket

Heh, yes maybe. It feels like a lot to my non-pregnant self, so the idea of doing it pregnant fills me with equal parts awe and dread. But you’re right that that wouldn’t be the case for everyone.

          • Aaminah Khan

My highest pair is six inches and I can dance all night in those. It’s about your comfort zone, I think. I’d never shame a gal for feeling more comfy in flats, but I personally am just used to heels.

  • Chickadeep

I’m gonna echo others here and point out that this dress is VERY “her.” She looks happy and glowy in it, and it just suits her. It’s a little foofy for the average person but on her, it works. Shoes and makeup are working for me…the only thing I’d change out is the clutch; I feel like she needs something with a little more edge to cut the sweetness.

    • decormaven

Agreed about the clutch. I love vintage purses, but that is straight out of Gramma’s chest of drawers.

  • KayeBlue

I wish the front hem was a bit shorter, her shoes are great and make the dress so much less childish. I like the overall look (although personally I hate this t-shirt top design that seems to be spreading like wildfire).

  • I love this dress, and I feel like it is very her, but the styling is a bit off. The matchy shoes and pearly clutch are all very floaty and romantic but I don’t love them.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Except for the killer heels (NOT right for a pregnant lady), I think she looks great. It’s pretty and accomodating and very her. But I’d remove part of the train and put her in flats, myself..

  • Sarah

She is pretty, but that’s despite the Valentine’s Shower Curtain. I don’t think it’s doing her any favors, and that goes for the shoes, too.

    • decormaven

      Nailed it! Great description.

  • webslice33

i think it’s exquisite! this really suits her fun personality!

  • I love this dress on her, but I wish the shirt was fully lined. That said, the lipstick and shoes are way too matchy-matchy.

  • Danielle

I dig it, but I would love to see something more suited for showcasing her bump!

  • Ann VerWiebe

I can’t help it, I wish I was wearing this dress right now! It’s so Valentiney – it’s awesome!

  • kim bunchalastnames

i actually liked this, especially when she moved. it’s floral and feminine and wispy, very goddessy, if that goddess is the goddess of fertility. lol. i do wish someone would have patted down that shine on her face, though.

  • Introspective

its the hallmark store in february rather than runway fierce.

she’s got the pregnant glow. which i lurv. but this dress is overwhelming.

  • Ros

I loved this. One of my top looks of the night. Pretty and feminine and not aggressively showing off her bump, nor hiding it under a tent. She looks comfortable (apart fromt the heels) and happy. Great job.

    • Judy_S

Gosh, I just looked at heels. That’s scary.

  • Imasewsure

Hated this on her at first…. grew on me a tiny bit when I saw it a second time but I still think it is unflattering, overly busy and not really the right color scheme for her at all. Much better on Drew than on the model though! No love

  • gabbilevy

Oh Drew. Did we learn nothing from Kim Kardashian? This, of course, isn’t nearly as bad, and yet.

    • heartbot

This is exactly the opposite of Kim Kardashian. Kim would never have worn anything this loose and flowy and relaxed looking.

      • demidaemon

Drew is miles ahead of KK in the pregnancy fashion department.

  • StillGary

She looks very pretty — and like herself — but those heels with the train … Glad she didn’t take a spill — Maybe her hubby was spotting?

  • Erica

I can’t hate because it’s Drew, and her face is so lovely. I’m telling myself she only wore the killer heels on the red carpet and when presenting.

  • jw_ny

I quite like this, although the hearts do make it a bit overly sweet & precious. Drew has the personality to make it work…she looks happy and healthy.

  • Garcia Loca

The idea of the dress is quite lovely, if not exquisite. The execution, not so much.

  • Jaeda Laurez

I know that on most people I would hate it, but it’s a Drew dress, on Drew herself. It feels like it’s not really for anybody else, but she’s pulling it off beautifully.

  • MissFern

she’s pregnant so she gets a hall pass. but she better not be late for 2nd period again.

  • Victoria Anzalone

  • ConnieBV

Good Lord, woman. Wear a decent bra. I know you are preggo, but there are bras especially made to keep your boobs from looking so sad and putting what should be a fun dress into sad Grandma of the Bride mode.

  • Anna_Cecilia

I want to like it and the spirit of it is perfect for her and her personality in so many ways, I just can’t. Do not like this dress, pregnant or otherwise (I don’t care for it on the model either). It somehow manages to be juvenile (flower petals) and matronly (cut and shape) all at the same time. If this was knee-length and on Kiernan Shipka, maybe then I’d accept it.

And I CANNOT abide the red satin bridesmaid Payless shoes.

  • LaSylphide

Drew in pink: what’s not to love?

  • ailujailuj

her hormones are clearly enraged, poor girl. a valentine’s day massacre. how pretty her face is though – glowing.

  • suzq

It looks so cheerful on the runway, but close up, it looks like a cheap craft project. It doesn’t flatter Drew’s shape at all, but if it had been breathtakingly lovely, I could have seen past that.

  • MartyBellerMask

    She looks cute.
But did anyone notice the MAJOR sourpuss expression during the Woody Allen tribute? The movie she did with Allen (“Everyone Says I Love You”) was *not* featured in the montage.

    • filmcricket

Did you see Mia Farrow’s tweets posted just as the tribute began? Excellent timing.

      • MartyBellerMask

I read about Mia’s and Ronan’s tweets. Ahem. 🙂 Not going there. Except to say that They had every right to say what they said and The Globes had every right to honor Allen’s contribution to cinema.
And Ronan is really, really, handsome.

        • MilaXX

and looks a LOT like his alleged bio dad.

          • Carrps

He looks EXACTLY like his bio-dad…with his mom’s coloring.

        • marlie

We had an interesting conversation in my household about whether his contribution to cinema was worth the award at all. 😛

          • MartyBellerMask

To each his/ her own! I think his successes more than make up for his misfires.

      • Sobaika

        Ronan went IN.

        • MartyBellerMask

I read somewhere, “he didn’t just throw shade, he threw the whole fucking forest.”

    • Actually it was (one of my favorites). They showed the clip where Goldie Hawn is flying through the air by the Seine…

      • MartyBellerMask

        I stand corrected.

  • Nancer

Such a pretty fabric treatment, love the look of it! The cut of the dress isn’t the most flattering; it has something to do with the neckline/cap sleeves. Some adjustments in that area would have helped, because it is making her look very broad through the shoulders and arms. However, I think she still looks great!

  • teensmom99

Drew has entered the muumuu phase. Get thee to a Peapod.

  • MilaXX

I like this. Drew has always been a bit of a flower child, so this seems to fit her personality. She kept the accessories simple, and hair/makeup look good.

    • mjude

I just love her & I think she looks adorable & happy.

  • Zaftiguana

Awwwwww. This is not my kind of thing at all and I don’t think the shape is that great on her current figure, but it’s hard to argue with how delightful and kind of perfect this is on a pregnant Drew Barrymore.

  • Oh dear. This looks like an elementary school Valentine’s Day project…

  • Diego!

Considering she is pregnant, she looks great! I love how this dress looks on her and it’s way better than her last attempt on the RC. Keep this path Drew!

  • heartbot

I think this is very pretty. The colors look great on her, and she is the definition of glowing. It’s hard to find fault with someone who looks so happy. For those complaining about the shape of the dress, honestly, I don’t know what people expect. There comes a point in any pregnancy where packing yourself like a sausage into something form-fitting isn’t comfortable, flattering, or even practical. You can easily outgrow something tailored overnight, quite literally, so flowy, forgiving clothes make a lot of sense.

She looks lovely and confident. The end.

  • abishagijh

I swear I had this bedspread when I was in junior high.

  • Fun. Pretty. With flowers. Perfect Drew look.

  • Danielle West

No. No. No. First reaction was that she looks like a cake.

  • The clutch looks cheap, but I think she actually looks kind of adorable.

  • Blair Sylvester

I think this dress really (maybe only ) works as a maternity dress with it’s overwhelming tweeness

  • GoAwayKardash

    Adorable, head to toe.

  • formerlyAnon

I think this is a great choice for her (not a blanket endorsement) on a night her number one job was to be photographed/filmed, to look good at a distance crossing a stage, and to endure through the evening till her turn to be the announcer. It’s in line with her personality, it’s clearly “special” – no oops I’m preggers schmatta, and most importantly it looks comfortable. (ETA: Which, the shoes don’t, but I am all kinds of envious at the lack of visible ankle swelling.)

  • MoreShoes

it looks like a tent. Only Catherine Zeta-Jones did well the pregnant look.

  • deelup

Maybe I’m getting a whiff of her happy hormones, but gosh I just love her in this. She looks beautiful and happy and it’s making me smile ear to ear.

  • Cheryl

I really love this on her, pretty and fresh. I’m kind of amazed by the shoes, but if she can wear them, while pregnant and be pain free, good for her.

  • French_Swede

I LOVE this dress! And I’m happy she extended the lining down further than the one on the model. Fresh, spring-like, pretty.

  • Call me Bee

This is good for her, as her fashion choices are always a little…off. It’s pretty and appropriate. But…it would be so much better, though, with no sleeves. Unless one is a stick, a short little tight sleeve always makes ones arms look pudgy.

  • bouionice

So unflattering, this dress looks like some awful craft project gone wrong.

  • frannyprof

    I think she looks sweet.

  • Erica_Vuitton

This dress pulls double duty. 1. as a RC dress 2. You can cut it up and send out super expensive Valentines to your friends.

  • E. D.

I wish the lining followed the shape of the hem, but otherwise no major complaints.

  • Melanie

This is twee as fuck. Also, negative points for the hearts on the dress; clearly she went that way so she could promote her photo book of hearts on the red carpet.

  • Sunraya

I love it. She looks great, especially considering she is pregnant. Very pregnant.

  • if it didn’t have so much stuff hanging off it i’d like it better.

  • Jacob Bowen

When I saw this dress I asked my mom if her kindergarten gifted class had decided to sew Valentine’s Day dresses instead of make cards…it is SO Drew though that I kind of LOVE it.

  • Pterodactyl111

Nope. Sorry, I can’t get on board. She looks like a shrub. A pretty shrub, but a shrub.

  • sienna elm

I absolutely love this! It looks pretty and fresh and I think that the fact she matched her shoes to the red flowers is spectacular!

  • Pennymac

No doubt about this being a Drew dress.I love it, unabashedly. (For her. Wouldn’t be caught dead in it myself)

  • PeaceBang

I’m happy Drew Barrymore is having a baby. All happiness to her. And she can use this dress as a canopy for the baby’s crib.

  • quiltrx

She totally looks like a Valentine’s gift, but I think it’s pretty and sweet and very her.

  • Closet Crisis

I’m with y’all who love this cos it’s so very Drew. And she’s glowing like sunshine in August.

  • guest2visits

Very pretty on Drew! I might like this expecting-dress the best on the RC.

  • p_capet

there is no wrong when you’re pregnant and happy and wearing something adorable, even the baby inside must be smiling

  • amaranth16

I’m so sad because the colors are so good for her, and I think you could’ve done something really interesting and lovely with this material. But I cannot get over what a shapeless bag it is and the grandma yoke. Drew’s pregnancy fashion choices have really disappointed me, especially because pregnancy clearly so agrees with her lovely, glowy face and lustrous hair.

  • ChristopherM

She is middle aged. If she keeps up this happy flower girl look for much longer, she is going to start looking like Baby Jane Hudson. Time to hang it up, Drew. You are not the missing Fannin sister.

    • She’s not even 39. Middle aged is typically considered 45-65:

      mid·dle age
      noun: middle age
the period between early adulthood and old age, usually considered as the years from about 45 to 65.

      • ChristopherM

39 is still too old to be dressing like you should be scattering flower petals on the carpet of a church. It is starting to look silly.

  • I love this on her. She looks elated, fresh and happy. She wears it well. Love her.

  • mdcoon127

Whiteboard this? It was cute but…
