Dolce&Gabbana Men’s Spring 2014 Ad Campaign

Posted on January 10, 2014

Let’s all bask in the Sicilian sunshine and let the testosterone fill the air, kittens. It is Friday, after all.

Dolce&Gabbana Spring 2014 Mens’ Ad Campaign shot by Domenico Dolce in Taormina, Sicily.

Give it up for Tony Ward, who just keeps getting better with age and almost makes those ridiculous shorts work.

The shorts made me laugh out loud…in two languages.

    Other thoughts:
    – Paper sack top pants (third pic, dark green cinched belt) is that really a thing or just styling?
    – Three piece really trying to make a foothold.
    – I’m not completely sold on the super skin tight pants with a suit.

    • random_poster

I’m just amazed that you actually saw the clothes in any of those photos. I have to scroll back up to verify there were, indeed, clothes to behold.

      • demidaemon

        Same as random, sadly.

  • PlethoraofBooks

    God Bless Sausage Friday!

Much needed pick me up to my day!

  • Clueless_Jock

Tony Ward is in amazing shape. I can’t believe he’s 50.

  • marlie

Whatever they seem to debating, I want to be a part of that conversation.

    • Anna_Cecilia

I’m debating which one I’d like to Mambo Italiano with.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

      you better speak italian.

    • Aurumgirl

      Ouei, lu pesce!!

  • homofascist

The tall one with the beard (in the red suit) is giving me the vapors…

    • conniemd

Um yeah. I’ll take him in a heartbeat.

And isn’t it great to see older men with smiles having fun? The last couple of male collections have models that look like teenagers with very grim and angry faces.

      • Glenn Johnson

        Probably because they are hungry.

    • Nonnah

      I think that’s Noah Mills.

  • MilaXX

Tony Ward is the only thing notable here. The clothes in the first two pictures are that different from last year, then we get the suits only Mathew McConaughey will buy, then the world’s ugliest shorts.

  • skipiddydoda

Does anyone else ever have issues with photos not showing up. It seems to happen only with some of these ad campaign posts. I used to be able to open the pictures in a new tab, but that doesn’t work anymore either. :(

    • Sobaika

      Disable your Adblock.

      • skipiddydoda

        Ah, yes! Thanks!

    • Slanted & Enchanted

Also, you can “Inspect Element” and under Console click the links to the photos that failed to load. Somehow that feels like less work to me than disabling my Adblock.

And that, folks, is a technique that only one semester of Web Design taught by other college students will bestow upon you.

      • AnguaVonUberwald

But to disable Adblock (in Chrome, anyway) you just click on the red stop sign and then click on “Disable on this page.” Doesn’t seem like more work to me? Is it more work in other browsers?

        • Slanted & Enchanted

Hahaha no, it isn’t more work. I think I just like to feel as though I actually learned something useful from my Web Design class. Also, I maaaay have not known how to disable my Adblocker, so a genuine “thank you” for your comment.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

That’s how you do it in firefox too.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I can disable the adblock for this page in 2 clicks – inspecting the elements seems like much more work!

        • mmebam

Inspect element is also two clicks for me: right-click then left click.

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Two clicks to open inspect element, yes.

  • Glam Dixie

They look like they are having a great time, I didn’t know D&G sold muck boots, that red satiny suit is too much for any one human and last but not least, what lovely men.

  • gabbilevy

These campaigns are always pretty much the same every time… not that I’m complaining.

  • Sobaika

“Argue about the fish!! Argue about it!! More gusto!”

    • Missy

“…Now more vegetable skepticism! Skeptical! Do you know where those vegetables have been? NO YOU DON’T!!!”

  • Missy

I have the sudden overwhelming urge to go to Italy. This is exactly what will be waiting for me, yes?

    • Coleen

It’s like “Under the Tuscan Sun: the All-Male Revue!” And I LOVE it.

      • demidaemon

That needs to be made into a movie, stat!

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

    Shorts? There are shorts?

  • SewingSiren

    I like the old man.

  • another_laura

At least I can see the clothes.

Cute campaign, I’ll take one of each and will happily travel to Sicily to pick them up.

  • Jessica Freeman

Impromptu street market on a rooftop with hot men? Sold.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

Beautiful men in beautiful clothes cooking fresh food? This is PORN!

    • Ginny Ellsworth

But INTELLIGENT porn! Porn with a soul! And recipes!!!

      • alyce1213

And good HUMOR! I’m sick of brooding and snarling.

        • conniemd

Me too. I posted above that lately the men we see modeling looking miserable and angry. I don’t see why that would make me want to buy the clothes for men. I want my men happy and fun. Dolce and Gabanna – “Thatsa Italiana”

  • TheLaurenJean

I want to live in these ads. Hot men in gorgeous (and sometimes ridiculous) clothing fighting over who can make me the better food? I’m all for it.

  • NYCGlamourpuss

I feel like bursting into a rousing chorus of “Backstreet’s Back.”

  • Frank_821

The last shot is kind of silly but at least it plays up the absurdity of these rather cliched scenarios. Nice models. some of those pants are way to tight and skinny

  • @Biting Panda

I am really ready for the men to get out the lady pants. Don’t you boys need some room to…maneuver?

    • YoungSally

Actually — I am thinking that many of these men have never been in lady pants.

      • formerlyAnon

Heh, Nonstop gay repartee ’round these parts.

        • demidaemon

          Hehehehehehehe.

  • Jaeda Laurez

I thought “oh, I actually really like those boxer shorts”…and then i realized they were real shorts to be worn outside. Sigh.

  • PastryGoddess

That is some tasty italian sausage indeed

  • jw_ny

looks like the gay resort of my dreams…;)

    • demidaemon

      Mine too.

  • Pennymac

Sigh. Hot Italian man was a fantasy of mine. Until I married into a family that imagined they were the Corleones. Still, this is some prime sausage.

  • sugarkane105

I love the younger, skinny dude whose one job was to look incredibly bored at all times.

    • YoungSally

Agreed — he gets creepier as he descends into the background with each photo. It’s like a gay version of “Where’s Twinkie?”

    • Laura Renee

Lol, I imagined him getting increasingly sulky (especially when he’s slouching at the table, leaning his head on his hand, as the men in the gleaming suits press around him) because he’s never allowed to change clothes and play dress-up like everyone else.

      • KinoEye

My needlessly elaborate take on it (I devoted a good 20 minutes to captioning these photos in a comment — this is what happens when you’re sick and on Nyquil) was that the old man is the Godfather of this fabulous mafia, and they’re preparing a wedding feast for his daughter, who is about to wed the sulky guy’s lover. :-)

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

      Hat Boy is over it.

  • Dandesun

    Now I’m hungry.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

I love making up stories to go along with pictures like these (which are way preferable to overly serious fashion shoots). I think in the 4th one down the guy seated at the table is on a gluten-free diet and his jerk brothers ordered nothing but bread for lunch!

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

      I was going with vegetarian.

  • decormaven

    That’s a big…fish!

  • DTLAFamilies

Draped in garlic and onions, really?

  • Missy

You can tell they’re models when they get that worked up over bread. That amount of excitement over being allowed to touch carbs cannot be faked. :)

  • Randy Noak

Are we sure this isn’t a commercial for the Olive Garden?

  • alyce1213

This campaign is pretty damn cute, and funnier than previous D&G scenarios. The tall man in the red suit is giving me palpitations.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

    HILARIOUS

  • Trickytrisha

Pretty tasty. I like the shorter peasant guy holding onions in the second pic and bread, on the right, in the fourth. It’s a fun setup.

    • boweryboy

Gimme the fishmonger in the last photo. That profile is all kinds of sexy.

      • formerlyAnon

        Paisan!

        • boweryboy

It’s kind of ironic that I’m attracted to the one guy who isn’t half naked.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Ah, Tony Ward. Went from “Eew, twink!” to “Ooh, daddy!”. Madonna, always getting them 20 years before I want them.

  • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

are they guys italian, or what?

  • butterflysunita

I’m loving this Dolce & Gabbana campaign.

  • Monabel

That last picture made my week.

  • e jerry powell

I am noticing that the most ridiculous of the prints aren’t in this campaign, and that’s a good thing. Perhaps they won’t be in the stores, either.

This approach makes me think a little differently about the collection now, because most of the wretched excess isn’t in here.

  • Joanna

I rarely give a rat’s ass about designers’ seasonal ad campaigns, but I’ve come back to this one four times since it was posted today. It’s just so hilarious and delicious!

  • formerlyAnon

Those shorts. When your mom insists on using up ALL the remnants and lengths of unused fabric.

I suspect some of those suit jackets are shorter than any but the slimmest can wear to advantage.

In other news, I hope these guys managed to have some of the fun they are trying so desperately to project. I can’t enjoy the scenery, though, they’re doing too good an impersonation of a large group of rowdy young men.

    • demidaemon

Honesty is the best policy. ;)

  • Shawn EH

I’ll never understand Italy, but Tony Ward is endless star power. Also, nice shorts.

  • KT

I’m getting tired of these ad campaigns. Yes yes, this is an Italian brand. We know. What else can you show us? Not that I’m complaining about the guys on display here… damn.

  • sleepycat

no, god i detest dolce gabbana, they haven’t had a collection in recent that was clearly a separate collection from its pervious one (they do it with their women’s wear too). Clearly they must be selling like crazy in order for the look to be so overdone. None of this is remotely youthful. Personally, I would hand over the brand to someone that can break the monotony of Sicily, that and get a new art director for their ads because they all look the same.

  • AmeliaEve

This makes me very nostalgic for the Roman grocer I fooled around with in my foreign student days…..

  • KateM

I cheer when a baker brings out loaves of bread, too.

  • lesmaha

    Love!

  • quiltrx

TONY. That is all that matters here. Giving me life in the vest shot and the ‘look at my junk’ shot.
I’m looking, Tony. I’ve missed you.

  • SophieCollier

Can I get some wine with all the cheese? Very goofy photoshoot but it looks like everyone’s having fun with it. Yup, good looking guys.

  • KinoEye

As I scrolled through, I couldn’t help but caption these photos in a ridiculous Italian accent.

Photo 1: We have brought garlic to you on this, the day of your daughter’s wedding! Godfather, we are so happy to be here, except for Fabricio behind your chair. For it is his lover who will soon wed your daughter!
Photo 2: We prepare a wedding feast for you, Godfather, after we pray over the many leeks and onions we have brought!
Photo 3: Look at these chickens we have brought to you! Do they please you? They are so pleasing to us, except for Fabricio again, who is jealous of your daughter!
Photo 4: Heeey, Marco has finally brought the bread! Now we can have proper Sicilian wedding feast! But nothing will cheer sad Fabricio.
Photo 5: What more do you want from us, Godfather?! We have brought the leeks, the chickens and the bread! Are our outfits displeasing to you? No matter, we have also brought many changes of clothing!
Photo 6: Godfather, look! We have changed the displeasing clothes for you. They are still no good? Antonio, stop eating Godfather’s oranges! Poor Fabricio, he tells us he will never love again.
Photo 7: Since our suits were not pleasing to you, we took them off! And we have a fish for you! Wait, where is Fabricio? And where is your daughter’s fiance? Ahhh, merda, they are gone! We have prepared a wedding feast for nothing.

  • MsMajestyk

Thank you uncles! Tony Ward shirtless is the icing on the beefcake.
