Charlie Hunnam in New York City

Posted on January 29, 2014

Charlie’s top half doesn’t match his bottom half.

“Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam leaves his hotel in New York City.

Prep school from the waist up, ditch digger from the waist down. It was ever thus with him. He has a strong need to express his macho side even when he gets dressed up, so our bitching and whining over his gigantic dungarees and work boots will amount to nothing, even if he did somehow wind up reading us.

But the top half looks great, no? A little basic, but again, you can’t expect much more than that from him. The grooming’s awful but that may be for his show.

No, I don’t know why I like the scarf so much. Perhaps because it calls attention to his face.

    • Bigfan

Like me, you just want to bury your face int he scarf and inhale…..

  • hughman

Personally I kinda like this “Upstairs/Downstairs” look. I love the dungarees but I would not have gone with a cardigan sweater which makes it a little Dad looking. Maybe a great vest instead.

    • marlie

      I don’t think it’s a cardigan, I think it’s a v-neck sweater. Still reads a little Dad-ish to me, either way.

      • hughman

        You’re right. Just as bad/Dad.

    • @Biting Panda

Mmmmm, I’d love to call him Daddy.

      • hughman

Oh gag. Get a room. And you’re married!!

        • @Biting Panda

For like forever. I’m allowed my fantasies.

          • hughman

          • Snoskred

Is called shopping with your eyes. :)

          • mlurve

A wise lady once told me, “Just because you’re on a diet doesn’t mean you can’t look at the menu!”

      • Sobaika

        You and me both.

    • conniemd

I’ll third or fourth the love for the look. Jeans with a suit jacket or a dress shirt and v-necked sweater seem the perfect look for those in between events where you don’t want to look like you are running errands, but don’t want to look over-dressed.

  • Jaeda Laurez

I love everything except the hair. Even the boots. I love that his jeans aren’t skinny as well. Cannot WAIT for that trend to die.

    • Vickiefantastico

Amen! The skinny jean is NOT sexy to this lady. However, one has to be sure that the jeans don’t get too large. We don’t want them saggy. I think these jeans strike that good balance.

      • Meg0GayGuys6

Word! I think these jeans look perfect. Definitely a good balance between I-can-tell-what-religion-you-are and dirty-diaper jeans.

    • marlie

Not all guys are built for skinny jeans, and the ones who aren’t need to figure that out.

      • MilaXX

seriously I worry about future baby making abilities with some of the guys I see in skinny jeans

        • Glam Dixie

Did you see Sleepy Hollow when Ichabod tried skinny jeans and went to sit down and popped right back up? Hilarious.

          • Janet B

Tom Mison called them the Devil’s trousers on Kelly & Michael recently

          • MilaXX

Didn’t he call then Satan’s skinny jeans?
Also I just heard John Noble and Lyndie Greenwood to series regulars.

          • Glam Dixie

Yeah, I think so, and yeah heard that too.

      • kimmeister

And not all gals are built for them either.

    • barbarienne

AMEN to the rapid demise of the skinny jean. I just can’t with the skinny jeans on any guy who wants to look like a self-supporting adult.

100% agree that these are cut well for Mr. Hunnam. I don’t like the slightly-shiny fabric, though. Kinda hoping that’s just a photographic artifact.

    • foodycatAlicia

Not skinnies AND apparently sitting on his natural waist! Hurrah!

      • ailujailuj

THIS. god, I miss the V. men have forgotten how fucking incredibly sexy the pants/jeans just sitting on the hips is… sigh…

        • foodycatAlicia

          And the sight of a denim-wrapped behind… sigh…

          • ShaoLinKitten

Can I co-sign on all of this? Thanks!

  • Snoskred

  • alyce1213

I’d be fine with a few dozen washes on those jeans and no cuffs (not with an overcoat). Hair looks greasy.

  • Vickiefantastico

I think a sharper, cleaner shoe would have helped. The work boots obviously make the jeans look like work jeans. With a better shoe, it would make the jeans look less blue collar and more white collar on the town.

  • Anna

I have no problems with him expressing his sides, macho or otherwise. Rough and tumble suits him. In fact, lose the top half completely but keep the dungarees and the boots. Mmmm….

  • FrigidDiva

I know the longer hair is for SOA, but there’s nothing that says he can’t wash it or that he has to wear it slicked back like that. As much as I love the show, I will be kind of glad when it’s over so he can change up his hair and actually shave. I actually don’t mind the jeans and sweater combo, I think it would have worked better with a different coat though.

  • marlie

This seems pretty standard “college guy version of dressing up.” I mean, it’s… fine, I guess. I’ll take the scarf, though.

  • Sobaika

  • Lainiejay

Sons of Anarchy fans will get it, even if you do not.

  • RussellH88

    Hogwarts’ Dirtiest Teacher.

    • Anna

I’d take his class. And keep failing on purpose.

  • frannyprof

Take all his clothes off. Problem solved.

  • mjude

I like the look, its “laborer chic” to me. which is kinda my thing

  • MilaXX

They look like Sears tough skins.

    • Janet B

  • @Biting Panda

I (somewhere deep down) realize this isn’t true, but every time TLo puts up a Charlie post, I feel as if it is a gift just for me. I love him. I see that gold band, and assume he has quietly married. Let’s just call this the Male Hi Low look, and appreciate that he probably smells realllllly nice.

    • ShaoLinKitten

No, it’s for ME! He’s MY TV boyfriend, even though I am never watching Sons of Anarchy ever again. Hasn’t he been wearing that band for a long while? He says he is not going to remarry, but he is in a permanent partnership with Morgana. Lucky girl.

  • Glam Dixie

First time I’ve actually not minded a cuffed jean. Well deployed, Chuck.

  • Erica_Vuitton

If the boots had been polished I’d be fine with this look. Actually even as is i’d love to wrangle my BF into a nice top coat.

  • Chelsea

    Love him. Hate those jeans.

  • muzan-e

Can I have the one on the left?
Although I’m afraid he will not be taking his coat with him when he leaves.

  • Tess Danesi

Maybe I need to see him acting in something cause he does nothing at all for me. Why is that?

  • boweryboy

No, from tip to toe. Is this the ’90s? What’s up with the Zachery Ty Bryan Home Improvement hair?

    • kimmeister

That is officially the first Zachery Ty Bryan reference I’ve ever seen on a blog.

      • Imasewsure

When I first saw the credits for that show.. I assumed he was triplets… aka the Mary Kate and Ashley syndrome (I also thought they were triplets but I guess that’s a thing with me)… and spot on about the hair… HILARIOUS

        • kimmeister

Well I can see how you would make that mistake since even his last name is a first name!

  • Kent Roby

I’m surprised at all the fawning from the fawns, over him and his baggy jeans; I’ll make another martini while y’all fight over him.

    • sagecreek

Hey, make me one! This all baffles me.

      • Kent Roby

You’ve got it! I assume you like it dirty. And how would you like your martini? 😉

  • Shawn EH

    So hot, though.

  • Violentcello

I love a man in work boots. Jax Teller would be a lot cuter if he’d lose the stupid skater shoes.

Speaking of work boots, I wish Walton Goggins graced a few more red carpets. I know it’s just (great) costuming, but Boyd Crowder is what finally got my husband out of white t-shirts and hoodies every single day.

    • @Biting Panda

Walton and Timothy together nearly drive me over the edge.

      • Erica

Yep, the two of them on one show are almost too much for this one, too. If this guy should ever guest star on Justified, I’d expire. My husband has been talking about getting a pair of work boots–I need to show him this post.

      • Violentcello

        TELL me about it! Phew.

      • Courtney

I cheered last night when they were finally in the same scene together.

    • skinny fat hunnam

The biker who Jax is based on wore white sneakers all the time which is why Charlie wears them.

  • ailujailuj

ALSO… he has intelligent hands. love that.

    • carnush

Oh wow! His hands are gorgeous. Thanks for pointing that out!

  • sagecreek

I just took mr. sagecreek’s jeans in to be hemmed. Are you telling me that Charlie H cannot afford that?

  • Lanus

Dude. I don’t know who you are, but I’d like to talk to you for a moment about shampoo.

  • NMMagpie

He’s gorgeous no matter what he wears. Never any argument from me.

  • Imasewsure

Half stylish Brit… half slobby American… oh well, still yummy

  • Kirstin McAulay

Nummy goodness…. sorry, was there a question in there?

  • msdamselfly

    Coat fits him very well

  • ShaoLinKitten

Photos rarely do this man justice. You have to see him in motion. Preferably shirtless. And while we’re at it, pantless.

    I’ll be in my bunk.

  • Blair Sylvester

who is that to the left of him? he looks a big slight to be a body guard but he is yummy

  • Lesley

on any one else i’d be rolling my eyes but bc i love me a rugged manly man and no one does it better than mr. charlie hunnam himself – i’m letting this slide.

  • Fred Vaughn

Cool college professor in the house (in the BEST way)!!

  • Jecca2244

he is like a poor man’s Helmsworth.

  • dellagraceslife

Fairly certain that he could play Russell Crowe’s offspring in a future film.

  • Jeannie Shmina Greenwald

Jax cleans up for a visit to NYC.

  • Gina Mondzelewski Small

I love Charlie’s macho side. He’s so friggin’ hot. Love him!

  • Cate

Maybe he’s going to do a sit-down interview on skype? Business on top, party on the (hidden) bottom?

  • Michee Rose

I disagree. I think it’s a fantastic, rugged-yet-dressed-up look. My husband would rock that in a heartbeat. But then, I’m not a fan of the current trend of tight pants on all men (some men it looks great on, others not. Just like women). I like a slouchy jean look on a man with his build–not saggy, just looser fit (that these are). The boots are maybe not awesome, but the rest I love.

  • Cynthia Amador

Really!?!? He’s a down to earth person and fame isn’t blowing up his head. What is he suppose to walking around looking like every celebrity out there? What happened to being your own person with your own style!? He looks classy and sexy. Haters gonna hate!

  • skinny fat hunnam

    He looks GORGEOUS!!!!!! As always.

  • jay

for one, brief, horrifying second, I thought he had cornrows in his hair

  • Stacy Cox

He’s PERFECT in anything! Who cares what you think!!

  • Michelle Priddy

He would be HOT in a paper bag!

  • skinny fat hunnam

Charlie’s a GOD. That face, that body. I love him.

  • flower

Love the look and I bet he smells gooood!
