Cameron Diaz in Giambattista Valli at TAG Heuer Flagship Store Opening

Posted on January 29, 2014

We shouldn’t be comparing Cammie’s coat porn to Emma Roberts’ bathmat or Jane Krakowski’s Practical Mom Chic since she’s posing on a red carpet instead of just trying to get through her day. But we can’t help it: she wins for best coat of the day. This is gorgeous:

Cameron Diaz attends TAG Heuer New York City flagship store opening in New York City in a Giambattista Valli coat dress.

Giambattista Valli Pre-Fall 2014 Collection

It’s a bit stiff, though. And it really could’ve used a belt of some sort. But she did right by making her legs the focus here. It prevents the top half from looking too boxy or rigid. It’s a great way to do red carpet in the wintertime. We wish more ladystars would opt for this instead of trying to shiver their way through pictures in a cocktail dress.

Cute look. I do think a skinny black belt would work really well here.

    • jtabz

Would love to see a necklace to offset the neckline on the coat. But still quite lovely.

    • Lilak

While this is the first thumbs-up-I-guess that I’ve given Diaz in some time, (1) I’d have chosen a different caliber of black tights/hose and (2) as nice a coat as that is, it’s kinda got a whiff of (very) high-end hair salon about it.

    • Dam_Angel

Yes, at first glance it looks very chic, but I think I spotted a vinyl tablecloth at Walmart in the same fabric . . .

      • demidaemon

I totally agree. Not loving it.

      • SugarSnap108

Yep. I can’t get past the vinyl-y fabric. I want to love this because the shape is great, and she’s actually wearing tights in the winter! But yeah, vinyl.

    • alyce1213

I think she looks chic and polished. Love the coat, a good choice to show off the watch.
(Her legs are amazing, but that’s a given.)

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Is she wearing anything underneath it though?

      • marlie

That adds an air of mystery to the look.

      • Bridget Smith

That’s why I don’t get the “coat dress” thing. This is designed to be worn alone. But if it’s warm enough outdoors, it’s too hot indoors!

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Agreed! If it is a dress it isn’t a coat. This looks like one of those Cosmo sex tips about meeting your partner at the airport naked under your coat.

      • kimmeister

That is why I am fundamentally confused by the concept of a coatdress.

    • ShaoLinKitten

I love everything but the weirdly clashing blue tights. She looks much better than she did the last time she was featured, shilling her book.

      • marlie

I wonder if the lighting is making the black tights look blue. Same thing was going on with Anne Hathaway’s shirt.

        • MilaXX

They look blue to me too, but I like the contrast. I like a good Navy/Black combo.

I love coat porn posts. And Cameron definitely wins – she looks like a character from the Sandman series without effort.

    • marlie

It’s a stunning coat. A perfect way to be chic and weather-appropriate at the same time.

    • Alyssa_T_Robot

anybody else seeing amber valletta here?

      • Spicytomato1

Yes! I’d never noticed the resemblance until now.

    • Evan

Wow I think that’s the best her head has looked in a while.

    • Adrianna Grężak

She looks great, but she must be freeezing! I’ve been wearing leggings underneath my jeans in NYC the past couple of weeks.

    • deelup

It’s amazing to me how much more beautiful people look when their faces seem happy and relaxed. She is oozing those things and it elevates what she’s wearing to gorgeous for me.

    • Sarah

Yay for tights in the wintertime! I wish the coat’s waist was a smidge longer, but I still like it.

      • mjude

agree about the tights. had to wear them myself due to the crap weather. I agree about the coat.

    • ballerinawithagun

Love this! Especially since I am selling a similar coat (I like my fabric better!) on my etsy site.
She looks great, prettiest she has looked in awhile.

    • Alfred Cox

This is the best she’s looked in ages. Kudos

    • frannyprof

      Adorbs.

    • Tanya Wade

Love it, love the tights, love the booties. Favorite outfit I’ve seen here at TLO land in a while!

    • rage_on_the_page

She reminds of Kristen Scott Thomas here for some reason.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

        I can see that, too.

    • Lilyana_F

Such a chic coat. And now I’m wondering what’s under it. Lol, poor celebs can’t win with us, can they?

    • zenobar

“Darling, show me some… ennui. Yes, yes, that’s it. Yes, you’re in a long, empty convention hall, everyone else is late, darling, there’s literally nothing and no one to entertain you and you’re BOOORED. And a little pissed. Yes – that’s it! Hold it! Love it!”

      • butterflysunita

That’s beyond ennui. That model looks ready to beat someone up.

    • Nancer

Wow. I was just struck anew by how beautiful she is. Oh, and I love the coat too!

    • deb

Cute…. but looks so scratchy and uncomfortable!

    • conniemd

The model is one of the angriest looking women I’ve seen.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

        She’s probably just hungry.

        • schadenfreudelicious

          Hangry :)

      • jen_vasm

That whole photo is freaking me out. Mean model mug, forced perspective in bland, vacant office space….why so weird?

    • Monabel

Is that a coat, or a coat-dress? Tres chic, anyway.

      • boweryboy

Oh snap! I posted the identical thing before scrolling down to the comments.

I’m equally puzzled, and if it is a coat dress, does it really qualify as a coat?

    • greymain

finally!!! no naked legs in the winter! Thank you Cam.

    • lbl

Yesss, this is the perfect time of year for fashionable lady coat porn on the red carpet. Why don’t more stylists do this? These are top designers they’re working with here. Their coats are as interesting to look at as any flimsy weather inappropriate dress.

    • boweryboy

Is it really a coat? Or is it a coat dress?

    • Kent Roby

She doesn’t have it open to her naval, and she’s not holding it open (like Heidi), so it’s a total “win” for me.

    • kimmeister

Special points for the bracelet length sleeves so she can show off her watch.

    • Tracy_Flick

I don’t love the fabric, it looks plastic-y to me. Like that knitting out of plastic grocery bags that grannies like to do. But she looks beautiful, she put in the effort, she’s working it. So I’m going to say she looks GREAT and not even mention the need for lipstick.

    • Sally Spannagle

I love her hair and makeup. Neutral/natural done just right for the red carpet, by adding sparkle.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Thank you for the tights and booties Cammie. Showing the crazy people that you can look chic during the polar vortex. Crave the coat.

    • demidaemon

I’m not in love with the pattern, frankly, or the stiffness of the fabric. This would be a NO for me, in the coat porn department.

    • Nonnah

Every time I see Cam I think “she’s morphing into Ellen Barkin.”

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

She’s been struggling fashion-wise for awhile and this time she hit it out of the park. More of this Cam!

    • bertkeeter

LUV IT!…Maybe a white detailed bag?

    • Pepper Collins

Eh…it looks too much like a bathrobe for me.

    • Maria Parramore

I’m just impressed by her hair (that actually looks good) and her makeup. This is the best she’s looked in years.

    • formerlyAnon

It’s the best of the day (yesterday) but it’s very borderline coat porn because of the stiffness you mention.

Probably because I recently saw a bit of her on t.v. in one of her legion of not-great, not-horrible movies, and was (again) surprised that she’s not as bad an actress as I tend to think, I’m again distracted to see that a quite successful actress, attends red carpet store openings – albeit pricey flagship stores – for, presumably, the fee and the opportunity to have her photo distributed. Obviously, I’ve gotta study your book so the perplexed goober in me will get some education.

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

      Stunning. Stylish. Perfection.

    • lifeisastory

      Bad. Bad. Bad.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

nice coat, but i’m not liking the gold glitter eyeshadow. it looks crusty. and the last thing a lady of a certain age wants is crusty eyelids.
