Ashley Madekwe in Roksanda Ilincic at the InStyle and Warner Brothers Golden Globes After Party

Posted on January 15, 2014

We feel like her stylist told her to keep her clutch in her left hand to balance out the look and she’s struggling to remember to do so.

Even if it’s not true, that’s the impression we get from the pics and besides, we love our little red carpet tales.

Ashley Madekwe attends the 2014 InStyle and Warner Bros. 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards After Party in Beverly Hills, California in is a Roksanda Ilincic dress accessorized with an Alexander McQueen clutch, Saint Laurent heels, and a David Yurman ring.

Roksanda Ilincic Color-block Double Wool-crepe Gown

Love this dress. It feels more resort than Golden Globes, but we can’t hold that against it. We love the addition of the gold in the shoes. Helps to dress it up. Unfortunately, that hair takes it right back to poolside. We can understand the desire for a clean face when you’re wearing something as colorful as this, but you combine it with center-parted hair pulled back and it really does look like she just finished taking a dip.

It’s a fabulously eye-catching look and she looks pretty, but we would have made some adjustments to make this look nighttime.

It’s got beach cover up written all over it, all she needs is flip-flops to complete the look and maybe a clear plastic tote in place of the clutch.

    • @Biting Panda

Nothing left for me to say.

    • Qitkat

While I like this take on color-blocking, you have nailed it.

    • butterflysunita

Yes, it’s very beach towel. But at least it’s a pretty beach towel.

    • Spreecord

One of those clear plastic totes with the fake flowers.

  • pookiesmom

    Oh, I adore this.

Flashbacks to reading my mother’s Vogues in the 70s.

Flashbacks to wearing this kind of color blocking in the 70s.

  • ailujailuj

GOL! I want two – one for my fat clothes side of my closet and one for the other side.

  • Danielle

She looks like a younger Leah Remini.

  • Sarah

Some sort of necklace, like a solid gold collar, would maybe dress it up. And fancier hair, of course. I can’t deny that it fits her well and she looks long and lovely, but she also looks like she’s hosting a commercial for Post-it notes.

    • kimmeister

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I’m pretty sure I have that exact trio of Post-it colors in my home office.

    • DebbieLovesShoes

      Nailed it. Bravo.

  • kimmeister

Cute lip color on her. I’m glad she didn’t try to match it to the hot pink of the dress.

  • Imasewsure

I think this should have been knee length on her but I love the longer length on the model. Great color blocking and a fresh combo of colors for sure.

I want her cast in more things. She’s so striking but I always struggle to remember who she is.

    • ailujailuj

she was AWESOME in the brit show “diary of a call girl” and I saw one episode of “revenge” on abc(?) and there was almost nothing recognizable from her other character. disappointing.

  • marlie

This is totally a summer look, but there’s no denying that she looks pretty great. I love this, head to toe.

  • Nancy Karpen

It could use some big glittery earrings and maybe a cuff. Love the dress, don’t love the hair.

    • boweryboy

Cuffs! I’m all for cuffs. I wish more ladystars wore them.

    • MilaXX

I like the idea of a cuff. Something simple and bold.I think glittery earrings would fight the clean lines of the dress.

    • decormaven

“Some adjustments to make this look nighttime” – jewelry! This needs a long, long necklace – 70s era. And a cuff for sure. This dress could have been WERQ-worthy if the extra touches had been added.

  • French_Swede

Maybe because I’m from LA, but this looks fresh and clean and pretty. Totally agree about the poolside hairstyle, though.

  • Tracy_Flick

I think it needs a different neckline. The strapless makes together with the bright color-blocking makes it look like she just pulled a beach towel around herself.

  • MoHub

I would love this knee-length and without the slit.

  • quiltrx

    Needs a necklace.

  • boweryboy

I would like this more if the strip of pink by the slit was orange.

  • ThaliaMenninger

    Love it.

  • River

I like the dress, would have loved it with an elegant necklace.

  • MilaXX

I would have loved a messy top bun with this. It’s a cute dress not many could wear.

  • Trickytrisha

Better hair and makeup and this would have been spectacular.

  • az67

This might be the best she’s ever looked.

  • bellafigura1

    Huh, bath sheet.

  • asherlev1

I thought she was her own stylist and that she even did her own makeup for these events? Unless that’s changed….

  • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gaby

Suddenly I want sherbet. Or a Flintstones push-pop.

  • Claudia

    She’s so purrty…

  • lillyvonschtupp

I don’t care if it looks poolside, or some mom’s 70s Vogue magazines. I love it! Just needed something gold around her neck.

    • sunnycalif

Love your screen name. I’m a huge fan of Blazing Saddles!

  • lillyvonschtupp

Paula Patton, get this girl’s stylist.

  • Diego!

What a stunning dress. It’s SAD she combed her hair like that and that her make up is non existant. It fits her like a glove. I give her a barely IN due to the lack of make up and hairstyle.

  • E. D.

Looks too much like a towel.

  • merciblahblah

I love this so much that it is verging on inappropriate. The color – the clutch – those shoes?!! Gasp. I agree with those who said they would add earrings and a cuff, howevah.

  • Corsetmaker

It would’ve been great for Cannes. Love it but it screams summer.

  • Lesley

this is the perfect look for a fancy dinner in cabo not so much golden globes..

  • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

    Looking good, missy!
A chunky bracelet or cuff might have made it more nighttime.

  • crash1212

Great dress. Tragic styling. Too bad.

  • conniemd

Wool crepe, what a beautiful material to work with. It looks like it might be very forgiving, given how well it fits. Just think how awful this would have looked in satin.

  • Molly

Ellsworth Kelly dress! She’s serving up some beautiful hard edge abstraction. Love it~

  • Kent Roby

I want this dress to have one really long dramatic sleeve and for her to be in a jeweled gold turban, just to give it that 60′s Mitzi Gaynor vibe.
