Anne Hathaway at the “Song One” Sundance Premiere

Posted on January 22, 2014

Are we nuts for thinking this is kind of cute?

Anne Hathaway attends the premiere of “Song One” during the 2014 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Not so much on the feather or the top, but the suit is a really cute way to get away with wearing snow boots on the red carpet, no? And the color looks great on her.

      No, I think it’s adorable.

      • maggiemaybe

        I agree. Super cute.

    • mcbishop

Liking it! In pretty much every way.

      • StarburstLady

I’m even in for the pin that was stolen off a Tyrolean hat. Again with the fitting the mountain venue– apparently Hollywood has figured out how to do Sundance right.

        • Call me Bee

I';m hoping very hard that the Tyrolean hats come back in fashion, as I have a fabulous one….with a feather pin, even!

    • Snoskred

I have deeply appreciated some of the boots seen at Sundance – this pair is not one of them, though. I’m more a combat boots type of girl. :)

      She looks gorgeous. :)

      • Ginger

        Combat boots for the win.

      • tallgirl1204

My reaction too. Great outfit, lousy cheap-looking snowboots. How about a pair of flashy nerdy neoprene Bogs or something with a little hilarity to it? These don’t really look very warm or fierce or fun– and if your snowboots aren’t warm, fierce and fun, you’re not doing it right. (edited to correct spelling)

        • Snoskred

I saw someone wearing a pair of boots I loved but I can’t for the life of me remember who it was now. :)

I also saw – please prepare yourselves – Elle Fanning wearing socks with sandals. EGADS.

          • rosanegra

Socks with sandals are the calling card of my homeland-Northern California. This is NOT a good thing!

      • SkipperJane

My vote would be for the Ugg Adirondack (it comes in tweed!) Combat-y, preppy, and oh-so-warm!

        • Sunraya

I live in the Adirondacks, and never heard of these. Thanks!

      • ailujailuj

so true! browsed many sundance candids the other day and there is something about “ski cabin chic” that I love and dressing slutty with layers, wools and fur is fun… fond memories – I’m a couple seasons away from snow where I live now. :(

    • Claudia Fernandes

oh no, the trend for 2014 will be nice cloths with werid shoess

    • Paula Pertile

Seriously? Are you pulling our legs, just to see who’ll blindly agree with you? (said in fun, with love) This isn’t all kinds of awful? Am I getting old?

      • Vickiefantastico

I agree. Uncles, go back to bed and start fresh tomorrow.

        • Tom and Lorenzo

If we took to our beds every time our kittens showed poor taste, why, we’d never get out of them again.

          • Paula Pertile

          • Vickiefantastico

      • Lily-Rygh

I agree, too. I thought this whole thing looked a frightful mess.

      • alyce1213

I agree. This is all kinds of awful, and dated.

    • filmcricket

Anne! It’s been a while! Your head looks great, I’m so pleased you’ve kept the short hair. Love the colour on you. Hate the clothes with a passion.

    • Mary Carpenter

Nope. Made me think of Napoleon Dynamite.

      • Erica

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

    • Laura

She had me until the shoes. But I can’t hate on someone for wearing weather-appropriate footwear. That color looks wonderful on her!

      • Isabel

She looks very relaxed. Love the color of the suit.

      • Mary229

Maybe it’s bc I dug out of 14 inches of snow this morning but I agree. :)

    • Veronica1022

She looks so happy and relaxed now that she doesn’t have to pole dance for Oscar this year.

      • Mary229

That was my reaction too. That smile makes me think of the old Annie. I loved that Annie. I hope she is back!

    • @Biting Panda

Hair and makeup are perfect. The outfit is very Anne, and I don’t mean that shitty, I’m not a hater. I think this is a solid Attagirl, because it feels more effortless than she normally pulls off.

    • PeggyOC

You are wrong. The boots are hideous, and this is a scroll down fug if ever there was one. The suit is not that great to start with, but throwing it into ugly boots as if she’s just come in the door for her job at the accounting firm just makes it worse. Sorry, Uncles, but you’re off here.

      • filmcricket

See I’m the opposite. I kind of love the boots, I just don’t think they go with the mom suit she’s wearing.

    • Sara

I wish her hair person would meet with Jennifer Lawrence’s.

    • Frank_821

I kind of dig the combination. I think it would better if the boots were black though

    • ashtangajunkie

I adore the suit and although I don’t hate the boots, I can’t help but think of how cute this would be with better shoes.

    • MilaXX

It’s a great Sundance/walking through snowcovered street look. I think she looks cute.

    • jw_ny

wow…I think TLo is kinda “nuts” on this one. That suit is really hiddy (pleats!…ack!), and the boots make it all look like she’s on her way to work on a snowy day.. Given that she’s in Utah, and assuming it’s cold and snowy there, I get that she wanted to dress for the elements…there are better and more stylish ways to do it tho.

      • Jessica Freeman

Even I as a mere mortal carry flats when I wear my galoshes to work.

      • WendyD

Oh thank god someone else mentioned the PLEATS! BURN THEM!

        • ailujailuj

have to agree… the pant suit is great – pant suits are great. but the pleat – well, it’s coming back. I’m not quite prepared and a little emotional about it.

          • alyce1213

I think there’s pleats and there’s pleats. These are not done well, they’re the kind that look cheap and puff out. Deep pleats that drape well and don’t puff out can be flattering (think Katharine Hepburn).

            • ailujailuj

oh absolutely… she always looked great in gabardine(?) or wool pants with the deep pleat and sometimes the high waist, wide leg w/ the cuff. she had a great look. pants like ann’s seem to mock the 80s. some things are better left to history.

      • rosanegra

        Exactly!!! Pleats!?!? No please.

      • filmcricket

Having now seen the blow-uppable shot on GFY: these are not just pleated pants, they are HAREM pants. With a blazer. Harem suit pants? Whatever – they are not wrapped and tucked into the boots, there is actual button/snap/velcro something happening down there. I cannot even.

        • jw_ny

          just awful!

    • mlle

I wish she’d take her hand out of her pocket and let the pants fall naturally. That emerald green is gorgeous on her.

    • decormaven

It’s appropriate for the venue. However, if one is wearing technical footware due to the weather, it looks a bit incongruous to have such an expanse of skin showing around the neck/throat. Maybe a colorful scarf wound about the neck or a shirt that isn’t cut as low.

    • JulieK

No. No this is not cute. Those pants are tragic.

    • Kiltdntiltd

Sorry I just can’t with the boots.

    • Jecca2244

love the suit. and on another snowy morning in Boston I am on board with the boots. surprised she kept her hair short.

    • gabbilevy

If Sundance has gotten a fraction of the snow the rest of the country has seen this winter, boots were less of a fashion choice and more of a practical necessity. Still, weirdly, this is coming together, even if the individual pieces aren’t really working for me. She looks relaxed, and I think we can all agree, that’s a plus for Annie.

    • Jessica Freeman

I would agree that it is cute. The boots are terrible, as are the pleats, but I like where she was going with it. Neck up she looks fantastic.

    • colorjunky

wrong top, can’t sign off on this.

    • bellafigura1

Boots and feather gotta go, the rest is delightful.

    • teensmom99

Very Sundance appropriate. And I think in general she is well dressed–just kind of got to us all when she was doing the Oscar poledance. But after a breather, it’s great to have her back where she belongs!

    • Deansweetie

Pleated pants always make me want to go “Mommie Dearest” on somebody. “No pleated pants” equals “no wire hangers”!!!!!!!!!!

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m not liking the pleasted pants, plus that waistband is thick. The color is good, and as much as I liked Hathawy with long hair, that short cut really works for her.

    • Janet B

She’s cute. Her hair is cute. The green is fantastic on her.
The suit is good, but I wish she were wearing a more substantial top.

    • sagecreek

I dunno, it seems kind of drab for the event. As someone below said, the right scarf could have really perked up this outfit.

    • hmariec19

I wish the pants were skinnier (and maybe a different color… jeans even? not sure if that would be appropriate for the event) and that they were tucked completely into the boots. I do love it from the waist up though!

    • brown-eyed girl

Like her hair and the color of the suit but those appear to be pleated pants. Eye twitch. She looks happy and it’s nice to see someone in shoes that do not require the wearer to be en pointe.

    • CatherineRhodes

      Can’t hate, she’s adorable.

    • TRSTL

The fly fishing brooch is a sly little move for Utah & Sundance, love it!

    • Kimbolina

I don’t even mind the boots but the pleated pants are just a no.

    • Deedles

      Kill those pants with fire!

    • AmeliaEve

The combination of the dark green wool with the feather cockade reminds me of a jaunty Tyrolean hat. The baggy pants and boots fit in perfectly with this image.

    • Lesley

i think the time out of the spotlight did her good, bring it annie looking good

    • Danielle

Her head is faboo. This is the first time in a while a picture of Annie hasn’t made me cringe.

    • pookiesmom

I adore this. It’s good to see her back on the RC and her hair looks FABULOUS, as usual.

    • Alana

      Love it.

    • MissFern

Were there any other boots available?

    • susan6

Scrolldown fug. Like the suit, but what’s up with the ski boots?

    • acevedob

She looks nice. Love the boots.

    • TLJezebel

Cute hair. Great color. I think a print top would have worked better.

    • foodycatAlicia

The pants aren’t the most flattering but I like the butch chic.

    • Mary229

Very chic. Also her smile is worth everything.

    • Victoria Anzalone

      Love it!

    • Jaeda Laurez

I love her hair, especially since it’s not blonde. But she’s got the right face for some Liza with a Z type hair . I kind of like the outfit, although normally i wouldn’t. She’s chill.

    • sweetlilvoice

Good for her for trying to dress weather appropriate. It’s a wonder all celebs don’t have pneumonia this time of year.

    • marlie

Love the color, and I don’t even mind the pleated pants. But they only work on the slenderest of ladystars. And the boots crack me up. That’s how I’ll be rolling into work tomorrow.

    • YoungSally

It’s green because she wants to play Peter Pan in NBC’s next great live musical attempt…although rumor has it that they want to cast a man as Peter….I vote for Alan Cummings — the censors would be completely overwhelmed.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Alan Cummings as Peter Pan would be too fabulous for words, but NBC is probably wanting Taylor Swift or some other young thing…

    • KinoEye

This works — for her. Love the hair, but I’m not so sure on the snow boots. I went to a private university, and the girls there wore designer galoshes on rainy days that looked better than Anne’s. I always laughed at them, but if those little rich bitches can pull it off, so can she!

    • siriuslover

I think it’s really cute and the color looks great on her.

    • lobsterlen

No. I always give extra points for being cute, put together, weather and event appropriate. Furthermore since she is at Sundance (not sure my why) but the feather pin works.

    • conniemd

She looks really cute and that dark teal/green is a fabulous color on her.

    • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

This is super cute, and I’m glad she returned to her natural hair color.

    • ShaoLinKitten

I hate the pants with a burning hatred, and the boots with the pants tucked in are an atrocity. But from the waist up, she’s fine. I don’t even mind the feather thingie.

    • elemspbee

      love the blue boots!

    • Judy_S

I think the boots kind of make it work. Otherwise it would be pretty ordinary and boring.

    • CPK1

Cute!! Minus the silly feather of course

    • jilly_d

I think she looks really cute – though I probably would have liked it more with different shoes. Kudos to her for actually making those pleats work; that is not a look for mortals.

    • Qitkat

      Nope ( you’re not nuts.)
      J’adore that color.

    • Imasewsure

Swap the feather for a great scarf and I’m totally on board with this. And I hate baggy pants (esp. tucked in to boots)

    • melanie0866

Yes, you are nuts. It is fug.

    • Granny panties

I quite like this. It’s cool and different. I’ll take pleated pants over stretch pants ANY day. Head looks beautiful.

    • Lilithcat

I love that she’s wearing snow boots on the red carpet! And, yes, it’s adorable.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

I think this is a fantastic look for her. And sorry TLo, but I would knock her over and steal that feather pin in a heart beat.

    • JaCory Deon

She looks good but for the love of god, can someone force her to wear a darker red lip of that full mouth! Her makeup always drives me crazy.

    • Jeff Warhurst

It works at Sundance for sure. She pulls it off too.

    • ReadBarbara

As someone whose has navigated Sundance (without the photocalls, of course, I was just watching), I am a-okay with the shoes.

    • flamingoNW

Yes, you’re nuts :) Do not like.

    • stubbornthoughts

      Love it.

    • Guest

ah, no – she looks like a mom on her way to work and dropping off her kids fresh out of the car pool line –

    • fashion4ever

loved it…until I scrolled down to the shoes

    • A Shiny O’Connor

HATE the boots. Like everything else.

    • BrilliantFx Skin Products

I am completely over her short hair – it is beginning to make her mouth look like the ENTIRE lower half of her face – kind of like Beaker on the muppets? It is Sundance. It is FREEZING. Anne – check out Demobaza – totally right look for you if you keep the hair and want a bit of an edge without looking like a mom who works at Kmart.

    • Melanie

i would cut a bitch for that suit. chic lawyer-wear for women is few & far between, if you want to look like you have a waist at least :[

      • Gaby

RIGHT? I’m right there with you as a fellow lawyer chick (desiring more chic).

        • Melanie

sigh just the color alone…i feel like when it comes to suits, grey is a disaster with my skintone, black is for an interview or like THE MOST CONSERVATIVE supreme court-type environment, navy makes you look like a flight attendant, & brown is…brown. which also happens to be the color of my hair, so there’s just a lot of brown going on in that case. god i hate businesswear.

    • msdamselfly

      Hair and makeup are nice

    • Gaby

As a lady with a small waist and big butt, I love high-waisted trousers. LOVE THEM. Plus I still love la Hathaway because I’m a fellow try-hard. Want the entire outfit for myself plz thx.

    • Sally Spannagle

It was adorable until I saw her feet.

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

I think it’s perfect. She didn’t disrespect by showing up looking schlumpy but she didn’t look like she was trying too hard or wear sandals in Utah in the winter. I love it. Great hair cut, great suit cut.

    • amaranth16

Love that this shade of green is having a moment. And feeling very pleased with myself for buying a pair of gloves just this color earlier this winter. :-)

    • LindaLaPaz

I think the sleeves on the jacket are a skosh too short. I’m not mad at the rest of it.

    • Elizabeth Hille Cribbs

It’d be better with a metallic belt, but it’s adorable.

    • Carleenml

      surely you jest.

    • Gatto Nero

“Not bad,” I thought, until I got to the ski boots.

    • Trickytrisha

Best she’s looked in ages. I am so over that hair.

    • Alloy Jane

Yes, that outfit is ugly. I think she’s been watching too much Studio Ghibli lately.

    •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      I’m surprisingly ok with this.

    • oohsparkley!

My only quibble, is that the sleeves of the jacket are too short. I like the boots. It’s fun to read all the differing opinions.

    • Jean Beaton Leavitt

Well if you have to wear front pleated pants this is how you do it.

      • alyce1213

I so disagree about the pleats. Those are the least flattering type of pleats anyone can wear because they puff out creating diaper pants. Deep knife pleats can be flattering.

    • nowlo

I think this would have looked way better with skinny black pants or cuffed, boyfriend jeans.

And I will defend the feather accessory–it’s jaunty!

    • Raymond Dnomyar

Maybe if the boots weren’t blue… no, I still don’t think I could. Coveting that suit though, and how good it looks on her.

    • alyce1213

Hate to say it, but since you asked, yes — you’re nuts for thinking this is cute. I tossed those pants out in 1993 for being too ugly, the jacket’s ok, the boots are wrong, so what else is there? Nope.

    • Call me Bee

Oh I don’t know. Great color, yes, but the pleated pants, blazer and brooch all takes me back to 1991 office wear. Not to mention the Napoleon Dynamite moon boots.

    • anotherkate

Huh. I liked everything BUT the boots, actually. Cute little suit, and her hair is giving me envy (why am I growing mine out again? I can’t even remember.)

    • Haley Buchanan

Super cute! Great suit, great boots, great color. And the hair suits her. Loving it a bit darker.

    • quiltrx

It’s kind of cute in a vaguely-out-of-style way. The color is nice and works on her. But Napoleon wants his boots back.

    • understateddiva

serving up Peter Pan Mary Martin realness! you work that drag king shit, Miss Hathaway.

    • Danielle West

Why do I dislike her so much now? I blame Les Mis and last year’s Oscar race.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Overexposure can make a celeb persona non grata-I’m glad that she’s been off the radar for a while; I can begin to appreciate her style again.

    • PeaceBang

1986 Drama Major. I was there. I remember it all so well. And so I cannot help but smile with appreciation at this and even the boots, because Anne and I both attended Northwestern University and it was nothing if not bloody cold in the winters.

    • kerryev

This makes all kinds of sense, for her and for Sundance. If the brooch wasn’t there we might not remember which high school classmates she reminds us of.

    • fiercediva

It’s 25 degrees in Park City in the daytime this year, so it’s pretty unusual to see cast members dressed in anything other than winterwear at an evening screening, even on Awards Night. Usually everyone from Redford on down is in midpriced skiwear , not even anything super-expensive like Moncler or Bogner. Every year though, a bunch of West Coasters fly in wearing sneakers and leather dress boots instead of proper winter boots, and for the celebs among them, sportswear companies have gifting suites where they can pick up free boots. The last few years Sorel and Timberland have dominated the gifted boot domain. I’ll wager any celeb with mismatched boots in Sundance like Anne H. may have picked their pair up for free.

    • St. Ace

Fun Annie is always better than Gimme-an-Oscar Annie.

    • lillyvonschtupp

Its looking very Halston 1980. Like the ensemble, can’t stand her.

    • Claudia

Liked until the boots. Its something I would do out of sheer practicality and laziness, but I expect better (and more suffering) of my celebrities. But the suit is cute.

    • Diego!

Cute until you reach her ankles… those boots are a NO. I think a belt is missing and I just can’t stand the boots. Sorry boys. Cute but nothing more than that.

    • carnush

Does anybody know what brand those boots are?? I am lusting after them!

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Cute, comfortable, quirky, and little sheer in the top to balance out the heavy fabric of the suit? Love it.

    • willworktomorrow

I just can’t with the pleated pants, but i love the hair and the color of the suit.

    • Ann VerWiebe

If I’m wearing snow boots, I’m wearing a bra.

    • leftcoastpickle

      this foresty cool
      green colour is suddenly everywhere.

    • korilian

That’s crazy cute and you’re crazy for doubting yourself for even an instant!

    • Reality TV Casting

i dunno the pants are pretty stiff and also baggy, not saying turn them into skinny jeans but a slightly narrower tialor would have turned this look into a homerun

    • gefeylich

      Trying too hard, as usual.

    • MilaXX

Just heard she’s left Zoe and has a new stylist, She’s now working with stylist Penny Lovell.
