Anna Faris in Fitriani at the 2014 Grammy Awards

Posted on January 28, 2014

This may be the best look we’ve ever seen her in.

Anna Faris attends the 2014 Grammy Awards held at The Staples Center in Los Angeles, California in a Fitriani dress accessorized with Sutra jewelry.

Love the color and the shape. She’s actually making those goofy pleats work for her, although they look a little weird from the side. We like the jewelry too, although we wish it wasn’t so matchy. It’s the head that bugs. We’re sorry, but with a dress and jewelry like that, worn at an event like the Grammys, you’re gonna need a little more face paint than that to balance it out. If she’s really opposed to wearing a lot of makeup (and there’s not a thing wrong with that, although we do think some makeup is required of celebs – of all genders – on red carpets), then she should probably go for pale, minimalist looks in the Swinton mode. A navy blue strapless fitted gown and some serious pieces of showy jewelry are asking for a little more color and contouring than she may be willing to provide.

Also: the hair’s pretty awful. We wish she’d bring that yellow down a couple of shades and consider a softer, smaller bang than that.

Ooh, I love her jewelry -esp the hand piece! She looks pretty. Agree about the hair, though – needs to be more honey-colored.

    • mjude

was hand jewelry called “harem bracelet” back in the day?

      • Sarah

        Methinks you’re right!

      • Sobaika

An absolutely ridiculous name. I’ve also heard ‘slave bracelet’ as well.

  • MilaXX

Totally agree on the hair/makeup critiques. Good the poor celebs have to cross pollinate-pimp these days. I’m sure the only reason she was asked to announce an award was to promote her tv show.

    • Danielle

Her show is a little hard to watch but HOT DAMN do I love me some Allison Janney.

      • MilaXX

I’ve never watched. I like her and I like Allison, but the premise just didn’t grab me.

      • Jenna621

    • Rhonda Shore

Has she never heard of lowlights? Her hair is screaming for them…

  • Sobaika

She looks so cute! Hair/makeup aside, this really is working for her.

  • Vanessa Reyes

Love the color and the shape on her. I am in agreement with the hair and make up critiques. But those goofy pleats look like she is carrying change in her pockets. is she parked at a meter??

  • kmk05

She IS wearing facepaint: not many people have a lipcolour like that naturally. But fine, if she insists on the beige lip, at least put on some clear gloss on top to give your face some dimension!

    • Jessica Freeman

I read a make up artist who said “it can take 15 products to look ‘natural’ “. Ain’t that the damn truth.

      • I have 8 products on at the moment for a neutral eye.

        • Jessica Freeman

On average it takes me about 5 products minimum to look alive.

          • Mismarker

This made me choke on my coffee. It’s funny because it’s true for me as well.

          • MissusBee

Yep, teenagers wear make-up to look cool, twenty-somethings to look attractive, after that it’s pretty much about convincing people you’re awake and not suffering from dengue fever, until you’re eighty-five, when it’s about appearing a) female and b) not insane. This is what they don’t tell you at the Clinique counter.

      • Sobaika

And I thought I wore a lot of makeup. That might be because I still look like a teenager.

        • Jessica Freeman

I tend to think she was including moisturizer and people who use foundation/concealer etc. daily. Its not hard to get to 15 in my pinon if you count the multiple shades of eye shadow it takes to complete a natural eye sometimes.

          • 3boysful

Agree. And I can’t say enough good things about a “corrector,” which you use around the eye before the concealer, except that it’s yet another step. But life-changing.

        • SassieCassy

out of curiousity, how much makeup do you wear? and are you a makeup artist? you get technical about it sometimes on here lol i love it

          • Sobaika

Usually foundation, concealer if I need it that day, eyeliner, mascara, and lipstuff. I’ll add primer, eyeshadows, blush, and do some highlighting/contouring if I’m trying to impress.

I suppose you could call me one, but I’m primarily self-taught and usually do makeup for people who have weddings/proms on the cheap.

        • Evan

Why did somebody downvote this? I hope it was an accident.

          • SassieCassy

people are too wild with their downvotes, it is weird

  • Pink Sith

she could hardly walk in that dress. it was sad to see her hobbling around.

    • Vanessa Reyes

I thought she was going to fall over when she was walking up the stairs.

  • Stella Zawistowski

  • Diego!

I love it. The wrist-lace (?) is amazing! Blue looks gorgeous on her and I love this overall look. I think she needed red lips, but it’s a minor complaint. She looks stunning!

  • Jessica Freeman

I wished the pleats weren’t so poofy. The blue is a great color for her skin tone, but agreed that her face needs more color, and the hair is just not working with the dress.

  • jen_vasm

If she took the haircolor to more of a honey or strawberry blonde shade and updated those bangs, the transformation would be DRAMATIC. Plus, she could get away with a less made up face.

    • poggi

Yes, that hair color really makes more makeup a necessity. I am always struck how Gwen Stefani can manage extremely light hair, but it’s because she wears a fair amount of makeup, particularly a brighter lip so her face doesn’t disappear.

  • rebeemoon

    That handpiece thingie is gorgeous!

  • Jeremiah Capacillo

She looks amazing but vagina pleats!

  • Anna

Ditto for me on the makeup and hair (look to Reese Witherspoon circa 2007 if she really wants to wear this style). This would’ve been a WERQ were it not for those horrendous pleats that highlight areas no one wants to draw attention to.

  • Rand Ortega

I agree with your assessment, brothers T & Lo. OTOH, this is a PB for her. The dress color is doing wonders for her skin, the shape is sexy as all Hell w/out giving her OBH (Overt/Overdone Baby Heads). The jewelry may be too “on the money” but it’s quirky which fits her personality. Too bad we can’t see the shoes.

    • Anna

I’m all for less OBH, I feel like I’ve overdosed on Paula Patton’s and Katy Perry’s. More CBH (Classy Baby Heads) or DBH (Demure Baby Heads), I say.

  • Spreecord

I’m not a fan of the saddlebags, but the face doesn’t bother me in the slightest. That hair, though, is pure Joy Turner.

  • cocohall

My gut reaction to this girl is “someone get her a rare burger or a steak, pronto!” Maybe it is just the wrong hair color and make-up, but she doesn’t look well. Otherwise, I think the dress is lovely on her. I tried to watch her show because Allison Janney is a NATIONAL TREASURE, but not only did I not laugh once during the pilot, I felt actively SAD afterwards. I’m on Team Mindy K. for sitcoms these days.

  • Anne Elliot

    good dress, awful hair

    • SierraDelta

Did she trim her hair with nail scissors in the limo on the way over?

  • MannahattaMamma

what is that hand-ring thing? I’ve seen a few of these now and it’s just weird: make a decision ring or bracelet but not this ringalet? bracering?

  • boweryboy

I’m distracted by the craziness in the front of her dress.

  • Cheryl

I like the bangs, but yikes, that yellow hair colour. I have to think it’s has something to do with her role on her show, as she would have access to very good colourists. I don’t even mind the platinum streaks, as it gets away from the yellow.

  • She’s giving Britney Spears level anxiety though. Unclench the jaw, honey.

    • Anna

And sadly, Britney Spears hair colour too.

      • LambeeBaby

So does Dakota Fanning aka “ole yeller”

    • psykins

She seems mostly exhausted to me. She does have a little one at home

      • Magatha

Exhausted and a little anemic. It looks like it hurts her to smile. But you know what? I give the same impression, and I’m well-fed and mostly kinda happy. My most natural look is “resting bitch face”, so when I smile, it can look painful. Luck of the draw. Fortunately for Anna Faris, she is way prettier than I have ever been.

  • quiltrx

I can’t with this one…I can’t help but feel that her dumb ‘persona’ in the movies is just her.
The hair is bad, face is too pale, and she’s gotten something right on one of those pleaty things. It’s a pretty dress and it’s working for her, but sigh otherwise.

  • Jaeda Laurez

She needs face- a bold lip would have gone long way here. Different hair color too. But I do love the earrings and the bracelet.

  • conniemd

Please, more navy blue on the red carpet.

  • decormaven

That color is smashing on her- really fine. Love the earrings.

  • IraKi

An updo would have worked wonders!

  • Imasewsure

I don’t hate her hair as much as I usually do with this look but I still hate her hair… way too Brittany Jean for my taste

  • DesertDweller79

Is there any ETA for this “no necklaces” epidemic to be cured? I’d have loved to have seen a necklace with this dress. Otherwise it is nice. I like it. I also liked how she told Giuliana she had man hands when she was asked to use the Mani-Cam.

  • Jennifer Bober

The fact that I can see how far down her neck they went with the foundation is what’s bugging me most about the makeup. Why makeup artists insist on things with too much yellow in them for we super pale folks is beyond me. Sheerer foundation and some oomph with they eye or lip would have served her well.

  • marlie

A red lip. That’s all she needed. I don’t even mind the matchy accessories. Oh – and her hair should have been back or up, because the fact that her hair hits exactly where the dress starts sort of bugs.

  • Qitkat

And here I was thinking that she had too much makeup on, although the lips are much too pale. When you have a lovely natural tone to your skin, such as seen on her arms, minimalist face with a soft color lip would be lovely on her.
I adore the gown color, and especially the delicate bracelet chain ‘ring’ combo. Somebody clue me in on what that ensemble is properly called.

  • KinoEye

Love the bracelet/ring, and that’s about all. I can’t with the weird bunching pleats at the side. Makes the whole silhouette very awkward. Totally agreed on the hair.

  • Jeff Warhurst

She looks petrified. It reminds me of when the little pageant girls are forced to smile.

  • MzzPants

It looks like she is wearing a ton of makeup, just all colorless.

  • When your natural hair looks pure wig, you need to make some adjustments.

  • MM4321

Hate her hair SO much. T&O said it – too blonde and those bangs, ugh. A better hairstyle could really turn it around for her. I don’t even mind her TV show, just her hair.

    • yeah, i agree, that yellow hair is awful. but maybe she just feels that’s her and she doesn’t want to give it up. too bad.

  • Brittany Knupper

    Fupa pouch.

  • i absolutely adore this look for her. and i am in LOVE with the jewelry. can i marry that hand piece? wait, i’m already married…and i promised my pfaff sewing machine if i ever should lose hubby…well, anyways…

  • E. D.

  • editrixie

It’s too bad that she’s posing like she expects to be taken out back and shot.

  • shaziz

Love the dress- that bracelet/ring thing looks tres 1988 Poison Concert.

  • I agree with you on all counts, Uncles. Also Part II: Her manicure–or lack thereof–was arguably even worse than her hair.

  • Gatto Nero

Great color on her, but the pleating/folding’s a little out of control.

  • Danielle West

She had some major struggles walking in this which annoyed me.

  • julnyes

Love the dress one her and I have to agree with the TLo hair and make-up assessment. Darker hair and a stronger lip would have given this look a WERQ in my opinion.
