a bit funeral-chic, but she looks pretty… also is it just me or did she look like she was floating w/out legs in the first pic

    • formerlyAnon

Love the dress, like the coat, what is with this trend to intentional post-hat-hair on the red carpet. And she could have splashed out with the clutch a bit. I like the dark shoe because I like its shape and don’t mind matchy, but weren’t there dark pumps in circulation this year that had a textured, even tweedy surface? That would have been nice, I think.

ETA: I might have just imagined the shoe. I do that.

      • MilaXX

Yeah but a tweedy shoe with this loo would really be too matchy. She’d look like a recycled British man’s suit.

        • formerlyAnon

You could well be right. My visual imagination is not my strong point, so I’m usually willing to be corrected on such opinions. (I really *would* be utterly at the mercy of any stylist I trusted. A problem unlikely to occur.)

    • Nicholas

I like it overall, but it needs some accessories to pop. Let’s be honest, if Allison Williams didn’t look like Allison Williams, the dress would probably be a bit bland.

The lighting is awful and makes everyone look like the living dead, which isn’t anyone’s fault but the organizers’, though.

    • Adriana

She always looks very pretty, but if I were a beautiful star with the means and occasions to dress up all the time I would want to play with my style a bit! I guess she’s content with looking safe and blandly pretty most of the time.

Oh, but Allison is being very daring. She’s wearing her belt buckle off center. For her, that’s a big deal.

    • MilaXX

      Somebody die?

She scared herself with the blue & white job the other day didn’t she? Baby step in the right direction and then back to bland. I think this dress is gorgeous, but her styling is so very dull.

      • greymain

        VERRRRRRRRY….

      • Spreecord

Somebody should ask her what the pattern in the couch has to say. I’m sure she’s been listening to it talk for a while now.

    • TLJezebel

      Looks better with the coat.

    • Sarah

A lil lippy might have helped. You know – like in a color.

    • jw_ny

I’m going to assume this is one of those events that she grudgingly went to, stayed for 15, then dashed back home and jumped right back into her jammies…

    • Glam Dixie

This instantly looked better when she put the coat on, it gave it some visual interest. I was bored to death by the dress by itself.

The dress is unremarkable, but I love the coat. I’m completely distracted by the black & white photo in the background of the first shot, though. Who is that? Clark Gable? Robert Taylor? Fairbanks? I can’t quite tell. Great photo, though…..looks like Hurrell.

      • http://petaphotography.tumblr.com/ Peta Jones

Good eye! :) It is Douglas Fairbanks by George Hurrell.

    • Janet B

I want all coats to be photographed buttoned up.

Nice season appropriate dress, but not really a ‘celebration’ dress.

    • quiltrx

Oprah help us, that is one SERIOUSLY unflattering dress! It even looks awkward on the model.
And the hair looks like she put it up in the car, without the aid of a mirror. Stop it.

    • decormaven

Jewelry, for the love of Mike, wear some damn jewelry. And not those little toddler posts. You got the designer goods, get the designer bling.

    • ShaoLinKitten

I like it. The coat is gorgeous, and the dress looks good on her. However, the lack of make up and jewelry is egregious. If she had a dramatic lip and a killer necklace, this would be so great.

    • SRQkitten

She seems like she would be a natural match for Calvin Klein style, somewhat non-fussy. Although the Girls girls seem to really be challenged with finding a style that works for them.

      • KinoEye

When I read the thumbnail description, I told my cat and dog “Allison Williams in Calvin Klein. How revolutionary.” It does work for her though.

    • boweryboy

It’s the best she’s ever looked even if the outfit is more suited to someone about 15 years older.

    • AmeliaEve

Yawn. And I want to grab that ugly pilgrim belt and yank the buckle back to the middle.

      • kimmeister

The OCD in me had the exact same reaction.

    • crash1212

I love this look. From the tip of her head to the point of her toe. Love. I know there will be legions of doubters out there, but I’m on record. Love it. And I want that coat.

    • helene

well she’s back to her old tricks isn’t she? dowdy, old, matronly, unflattering, boring. nothing redeems it, the coat, the shoes, the hair, and no Miss Allison, moving the buckle an inch to the right does not make an exciting style up-ratchet! really awful.

    • Pennymac

Love Calvin! I was thrilled to find a vintage Calvin Klein trench coat this week at the thrift store for $12, y’all. $12!!!
Nothing earth shattering, but his stuff is just classic.

      • formerlyAnon

        That’s a triumphant find.

        • Pennymac

          I did a little dance….

      • decormaven

Oooh, that’s a nice find indeed. Enjoy!

      • KinoEye

I’m thrilled for you! What color? Also, I know some BKs would appreciate what I found in my dad’s closet the other day — a custom, silk velvet merlot Morty Sills suit circa 1972. And the jacket just fits me!

    • shelley514

It looks better with the coat over it. But she never rocks anything eye catching at all. Ho hum.

    • Trickytrisha

      Yawn.

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Standard pretty American in pretty standard fashion. And I’m dating myself here, but when your pupils are that large in front of flash cameras, your’re on drugs of some kind.

      • KinoEye

If she is, I wish said drugs would start influencing her fashion. The denizens of Studio 54 didn’t look like mourners at a rich person’s wake!

    • Qitkat

It’s going to be hard to top that magazine cover recently. I do like the dress and coat together here. But a necklace or larger, more interesting earrings are called for, along with a pop of color. Ouch on this hair.

    • Lori

She sucked all the interest right out that dress. It’s a crying shame to be that pretty and that rich and such a fashion yawn.

    • bellafigura1

This dress was made for those long, tall patent leather boots. A dress like this is the reason those boots exist. She blew it with the yawn-worthy pumps. Nice coat, though.

    • ThesisMonkey

aaand right back to boring. really? all black, neutral makeup, minimal jewelry? really?

    • marlie

The off-centeredness of her belt is making my eye twitch, but it’s a nice dress and coat, and they look good on her. Like other kittens said, though, a but funereal.

    • Tracy_Flick

Fire the person who did your hair, Allison. It looks like a 9-year-old’s first try at a french braid.

    • Nancer

She looks great, I love the dress and coat. I like this very much.

    • Carrps

Wow, she really does look exactly like her father!

    • demidaemon

      It’s not horrible?
