Allison Williams in Alexander McQueen at the “Girls” Season 3 UK Premiere

Posted on January 16, 2014

We feel like Allison is shooting daggers at us with her eyes, boring a hole right into our skull by staring intensely, saying wordlessly to us…

Allison Williams attends the UK premiere of “Girls: Season 3” at Cineworld Haymarket in London, England in an Alexander McQueen halter top dress paired with Jessica McCormack jewelry.

Alexander McQueen Spring 2014 Collection

Well, Allison, we’re glad you asked. We like this a lot. We wouldn’t call it edgy or even youthful, but McQueen is a better brand for you than Calvin Klein or Oscar de la Renta. And while this is, not surprisingly, one of the most sedate McQueen garments we’ve ever seen, we’re hoping you can form a relationship with the brand (as people in fashion say) and get talked into wearing some things with some more personality to them.

In other words: Attagirl. Keep going in this direction.

I like her now, bitches, too!

  • sugarkane105

I LOVE this, even if her chest looks like a melted Crayola box.

    • Kathy Monkman

hahaha yes! One of those craft projects with wax paper, but black! that made me laugh.

    • Mrs. Julien

But in the best possible way.

    • Trent

But why did the Girls cast have to go overseas to look this good? After seeing this fab look and Lena’s cute frock I hope TLo posts the other two as well…

  • PastryGoddess

Now I have that song stuck in my head…thanks

frogs bless the girl, how does she find the blandest dress from a brand that gave us bejeweled head cages and armadillo shoes?

  • Introspective

dare i say that the queen of vanilla fashion looks damn fierce!

    • Spreecord

Remember when she did that interview that said “I’ve been looking like a giant sheet of nothing for the last few years to give the media a baseline?” I’m starting to be afraid that she wasn’t kidding. That was an actual plan. Who the fuck is that calculating?

      • fursa_saida

Hey, if she actually did plan that, then I suddenly respect her way more than I did. Nothing wrong with being media-savvy in that business.

  • MW

Love this. I dare say, considering the Golden Globes dress, that she’s making progress recently.

  • She looks perfect to my eyes. I’m gonna give her a personal WERQ.

  • Janet B

T Lo might not call this edgy, but Ms. Williams probably thinks it’s way out there.
    Well done.

  • Danielle

    Well done!!

  • Diego!

SHE LOOKS STUNNING!!!! I love love love how this dress looks on her! It’s well fitted and she looks radiant! I’m not very fond of the too tight hair though, but she looks amazing! Bring it on Allison! 😀

  • NBG

I think the hair was the right choice but not the boring jewelry. But baby steps, people. Baby steps.

  • ailujailuj

that mess-o-lip saved her ass on this one.

  • Valdri8

Someone new on the payroll, perhaps?

  • Adrianna Grężak

I like this because it’s more interesting than what we normally see her wear, but it still fits her fashion aesthetic.

  • jilly_d

She looks like a supervillain. In a good way! Love this on her – it’s a nice compromise between her “simple clean” aesthetic and the edginess we all know she can pull off.

    • Deac82

You know…a role as some sort of supervillain (or over-the-top antagonist in general) would be a nice change of pace for her a la Jennifer Aniston in ‘Horrible Bosses.’ I sense a hint of darkness behind that smirk that needs to be explored. A starring role in a rom-com would be ugh-inducing.

    • Kent Roby

I’d love to see her throw in an occasional dark/edgy outfit; since she could easily pass for the T-Mobile girl.

  • kayleymaybe

Her last 3 or 4 outfits have been a major turn-around for her, in a good way.

  • claudemtl777

Great look… (but how unattractive is the second thumbnail?)

  • This is good. Not fashionista-good, but comfortably-above-average good. Well done.

  • bellafigura1

I love this dress. Like, LOVE. She looks really great here and I have a visceral desire to dislike everything she does, so it pains me to extend props. OK, I can think of one neg thing: the lip shellac is scary.

    • ampg

Yeah, I’m not on board with the clown makeup, but other than that it’s exactly the type of thing she should be going for.

  • Sam Erin

    YES. Well done!

  • MannahattaMamma

that is one skinny lady. a skinny lady in a great dress.

  • Jessica Freeman

Groundbreaking for her. I like it.

  • LearnedFoot

Hey, I guess Victorya from S4 of Project Runway was ahead of her time! This is the same janky, bejeweled neckline that she used for the prom dress challenge.
From the ribs down she’s great, but I really just hate that awkward, elongated neckline. Colors are nice, though.

    • Glam Dixie

You stole this comment right out of my head. I had an immediate flashback to Victorya’s prom dress.

    • demidaemon

I completely see that now. To be fair–as it should be–McQueen di it much, much better. This looks like it was actually made to flatter the bust, unlike Victorya’s stuff.

  • mmebam

I’m ambivalent about the orange lipstick. On one hand, it adds good pop to her face and helps set off the dress. On the other hand, she picked a color from the dress and put it on her face.

    • kimmeister

It’s the first time that i can recall seeing her in a bold lip color, so I’m going to declare it a win.

  • luludexter

This is so cool and it looks fantastic on her – the fit is wonderful. Definitely more interesting and I hope she keeps going in this direction.

  • Snailstsichr

    Oh, snaps girl!

  • I can never tell if I really love her clothes, or if it’s just that she’s so aesthetically perfect I trick myself into loving them. I think I do love this dress, weird as it is.

  • conniemd

Cool dress, at first I thought she had something sequiny dotted on the dress, which I didn’t like, but then realized it was dust on my monitor. 🙂

  • formerlyAnon

For her, I’d say it’s in werq territory.

  • Kent Roby

Praise the fashion gods, this beautiful “Girl” has finally thrown on a fab gown that works for her for the RC! I love the bodice.

  • @Biting Panda

Slinky. I have no opinion either way, but she is certainly cutting a striking impression.

  • MzzPants

    Clothes cannot fix boring. Ever.

    • Sofia

Thank you for saying that. I am so over this chick’s bland predictability. Some people are fine with being typecast (Anniston), but unless Williams wants to forever play the safe, repressed, one dimensional girlfriend/wife/object of desire with whom smart audiences will not connect, she better start showing some versatility. We do not need yet another actress of her ilk! Enough already!

  • Caitlin Rain

Nice idea, but am I the only one who doesn’t care for the vertical-horizontal proportions of the colorful section? Fraulein Klum always has this problem with “harness-neck” dresses, too. Makes one look as if one has miles of sternum and a low, small bust, which can’t be the intention, can it?

    • Kent Roby

Fraulein Klum also favors dresses that display her labia, so I wouldn’t necessarily count her word as Fashion Law.

      • demidaemon

Also short, shiny, and tight, which is not really all that great 100% of the time, either.

  • marlie

I love this on her. And the lipstick is *perfect.* I hope this means that she has a new stylist who is willing to drag her out of her comfort zone.

  • AnnaleighBelle

I’m kind of liking what the red and blue in the bodice is doing to her eyes and lips. Pop-pop!

  • Man, she rocked that gold metallic bustier and pencil skirt under the full-skirted plastic dress on Girls. If you can wear that and look fabulous, you can wear anything! Such a waste that she normally goes for the staid looks. I really like this on her and hope it’s an indication of things to come (and it will have to be if she wants anyone to remember her.)

  • Anna

Personal best, not sure about the beading but I love the look overall.

OMG. That minaudiere in the photo. I need it in my life, like, now.

  • KinoEye

Definitely stick with McQueen, Miss Missy. He seems like the designer to take you into that 21st century NYC debutante style the guncles recommended. Fantastic colors up near her face. And thank Chanel for at least one of the Girls knowing how to pose on an RC.

  • kimmeister

I think i like this better than the similarly colored McQueen that Elizabeth Banks wore during the Catching Fire pole dance.

  • EEKstl

Love this dress and love her in it. Obviously she’s never going to be edgy, but this is the type of eye-catching, age-appropriate yet classic look that she should be sporting regularly.

  • jen

    Attagirl, indeed!

  • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

I like to picture her with a new stylist saying, “Yes, but will Tom and Lorenzo approve?”

  • amaranth16

Love this. So glad to see her taking some risks lately. Her outfits have been interesting lately, but I think this one is both chic and playful in a way that’s hard for most people to pull off. I might even call this a Personal Best.

  • boweryboy

Not really loving the dress, but I am liking it on her.

  • MaggieMae

Oh, she is totally telling us to eat it.

  • MilaXX

YES! This I like. more like this please.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

She’s the kind of All-American, Ivy League beautiful that can be just bitchy enough to make this work. I like it a lot!

  • I keep seeing that neckline and I’m still not sure how I feel about it.

  • Qitkat

    Attagirl indeed. Tres chic.

  • Jacob Bowen

    Her eyes are BEAUTIFUL!

  • lifeisastory

Not a fan of the neckline. Or the texture.

  • Liz Lake

Man. Those girls from GIRLS sure decided to step it up a bit. FINALLY!
Did somebody bitch slap her back to reality after reading her quote in ELLE about Jennifer Aniston and how she wants to be boring and have a fashion baseline. Because since that article emerged into the public view, she has been making a concerted effort to not dress like a senator’s wife or Jennifer Aniston. I like where this is going. Keep up the good work, you sexy super villainess!

  • Sally Spannagle

I am going to be so mean by saying this, but something about her jawline I just do not like… bothers me…

    • Carrps

She likes her dad. A WHOLE lot.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

She has the shoulders to pull this off. I think she looks fabulous.

  • Gatto Nero

Glad she’s ditching the bland dresses.
    She still bores me, though.

  • Claudia

    I think she looks stunning!

  • lalahartma

    I dig it.

  • procrastinatrice

I absolutely adore this dress! And she is killing it. I call it a WERQ!

  • Gorgeous! Other than ‘Girls’ I still don’t know why she’s famous and is shoving her image down our throat after only being successful in one show – but blah, blah, blah….the dress is amazing.

    • PastryGoddess

she’s famous because her dad is famous

      • demidaemon

WORD. Also: Lena Dunham’s casting of her.

  • Dreamwr8tr

Nancy Kerrigan styling from the chest up but it’s pretty and I’ll remember it. +1, Allison Williams.

  • marcia miller

good silhouette on her. A dash of fun, but still very basic. Overall – nice.

  • Shug

I can has your eyebrows, please?

  • She looks absolutely great; totally stepped up her game.
