2014 SAG Awards Red Carpet Rundown – Part 2

Posted on January 21, 2014

These bitches won’t stop coming at us with their gowns and their jewels and shit, darlings.

Sandra Bullock in Lanvin

We hate that shape of skirt (and she loves it, because she wears it a lot), and it looks like it’s made out of upholstery fabric.

Abigail Breslin in Chagoury Couture

No one who’s years away from reaching her twenties should dress like this.

Maisie Williams

She’s too pale to be wearing white for flash pictures.

Alfre Woodard

This would look so much better if it wasn’t so shiny.

Jane Krakowski in Roland Mouret

We gasped. We think this might be a personal best for her. Smart. Girlfriend’s looking for work.

Amanda Peet

 The FUCK?

Ariel Winter in Badgley Mischka

Can’t put our finger on why, but this print isn’t quite working for us. It’s too muddy somehow.

Sarah Hyland in Pamella Roland

Enh. Pretty bland except for the shoes, which look too big on her.

Elisabeth Moss in Michael Kors

Playing it relatively safe and low-key. She looks good, though. We do wish the stars would stop picking this tomato-y red. It never photographs well.

Emilia Clarke in Calvin Klein Collection

It’s dull in that Calvin Klein way, but she can rock that kind of hard-to-rock blush color.

Gretchen Mol in J. Mendel

A t shirt and a sheet.

Helen Mirren in Escada

Julie Bowen in Carolina Herrera

Credit to her for wearing something interesting, but the top half is over-designed. We like the skirt, though.

Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen

This really suits her. She looks cute.

Edie Falco

That’s … not a great use of that print. The shape is terrible. And the shoes are all wrong with it.

Lena Headey in Jenny Packham

Gorgeous and striking. Not in love with the hair.

Malin Akerman in Naeem Kham

That’s way too much dress for her to handle.

Natalie Dormer in Marios Schwab

We hate the weird sleeve detail, but we love everything else about this look. It’s kickass.

Pauley Perrette

Looks like she got it at a thrift shop. That’s not a compliment.

Sarah Paulson in Rochas

She insists on big pouffy ankle-length skirts. It’s not the best shape for her. And that hair is unbelievably bad.

Meryl Streep in Stella McCartney

Yeah, she’s a goddess and all, but goddesses shouldn’t have elastic waistbands.

Sophie Turner in Dolce&Gabbana

We had a whole thing written up about wearing a bra on the red carpet, but at the last second we realized that’s not her belly skin we’re looking at. It’s a ribbon exactly the same color as her skin. That was kind of a dumb choice.

  • Before anyone mentions it, the grease spots are on the camera, not the outfits. 🙂

  • jspark

Lena Headey could do without the bow, the young girls need to stop wearing long black dresses, and two cheers for Kelly Osborn.

    • Chickadeep

Agreed—the stripe was a refreshing change of pace for the red carpet, but the bow added nothing. Amen to the long black dress on young girl thing (unless you’re doing a full on teen goth thing, in which case, it’s allowed), but can you even imagine the utter fabulousness of Abigail’s frock on someone like Christina Hendricks?

I’m tired of Kelly’s hair—it’s been done; I’d love to see her reinvent it soon. She’s got great, thick hair; she could do just about any color and have it look great.

      • jspark

Does she have thick hair though? Seriously it’s been so long I can’t remember if that thickness is natural or if all of the dye has just built up over the years.

        • Chickadeep

I think it is…the Osbourne clan all seem to have pretty thick, moppy hair. Repeated dyeing weakens and thins hair, eventually (even though it looks like it has more volume at first, the chemicals and styling does damage over time).

      • demidaemon

It’s not going to happen, unfortunately, which has been stated for multiple reasons in many other posts.

I kind of love that she’s still rocking it, personally. And she’s always changing up the style, which I also love.

        • Chickadeep

Don’t get me wrong…I like a good non-natural hair color myself, and spent some of my youth with blue tresses. It’s not that. It’s just been the same dullish shade for so long, I can’t help but want a change. That candyfloss pink that Helen Mirren was rocking a while back? Ombre blue and purple? Super-light periwinkle violet blue? Just over the dull greyish purple thing. I like that she changes the style, though.

    • demidaemon

Yes, this is probably the most perfect Zac Posen I have seen in some time. the lines accentuate her figure to the best of there ability. Well done on everyone’s parts.

  • I take it Ms. Woodard is expecting?

    And Meryl, honey – no.

    • RedRaven617

Ms. Woodard is over 60, so I think I can safely say,”no, she is not expecting”. The dress wasn’t the best shape for her, but if you think she looks young enough to be pregnant, she is doing something right. I love her.

      • Kent Roby

Ms. Woodard gave me a huge hug this year, and I really do love her, but this is not a great dress for her. Queen Helen needs to pull some of the more mature divas aside (Woodard, Streep, et al) and remind them that they can still rock the shit out of the RC without diminishing an ounce of their serious talent.

    • Wendi126

Alfre Woodard is 61 and probably should go for a different silhouette next time. Oy

      • megohd

61? She looks AMAZING. I’m bowing down.

Hate the dress, but WOW. I should be so lucky.

  • acevedob

Malin looks like a caterpillar. I hate caterpillars.

    • Kent Roby

Malin’s dress is what Edie Falco’s dress looked like a few weeks ago.

    • MK03

Or like she’s covered in caterpillars.

    • demidaemon

She does look like a caterpillar. I do not hate caterpillars, but I do hate this dress with a passion.

  • See now, I have to point this out. Had Zac Posen made that yellow dress Lena Dunham wore look like the one Kelly has on, it would have worked.

You can’t see all the tailoring that has to be going on under there, and the dress is much better for it.

I honestly wonder if maybe they ran out of time on that yellow dress. :/

Jane Krakowski fights with Helen Mirren for the win out of this batch. 😉

    • Aurumgirl

I don’t. Zac hates Lena. Zac likes Kelly. It’s easy.

      • Zac used to babysit Lena, so I doubt he hates her.

        • Aurumgirl

That is his official story, yes.

  • Not loving Maisie’s hair. Her Arya short hair really suits her – wish she’d stick with that. What is going ON with Sarah Hyland’s face? Her new makeup routine is not working for me.

    • colleenjanel

Sarah’s had a lot of puffiness in her face due to her health issues. I think she tries to play up her brows because #1-that’s her “thing”, and #2-she thinks it’s drawing attention away from the puffiness. But she’s teetering into Sharpie Marker territory, and needs to go a little softer.

      • Oh goodness, I had no idea about her health issues. I feel bad now, edited to make my original comment a little less insensitive. Thanks Colleen.

        • colleenjanel

Yeah, she’s battled kidney disease her whole life, and had a kidney transplant (from her dad) last year. You can really see the difference in her face from her early photos to just the last year. No doubt all the meds she has to be on. Poor girl has been through the wringer!

          • Maryanne525

I agree on the Sharpie comment. I think you’re totally right that she’s trying to pull attention to the eye specifically, but they’re verging on becoming too big for her face. She is so beautiful, though!

      • In_Stitches

I really like the brows to be honest. I think they are much improved upon compared to the Globes.

        • colleenjanel

I think it’s about balance. It’s tough to pull off a power brow when the rest of your makeup reads soft and sweet.

  • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

I love Lena Headey, and if it’s true that she’ll be a guest judge on RPDR this season, I’m looking forward for some bitchy comments Cersei-style.

  • NBG

Bless Queen Helen, or I would never have made it through that batch!

  • Diego!

I hate Helen Mirren’s hair. It’s awful combed like that. I love love love Kelly Osbourne dress. It’s the best I’ve seen her in like… ever! She is the big winner in this round. Amazing! The others I like are Natalie Dormer, for being edgy and Lena Headey for wearing something inusual for a red carpet. Way to go girls!

  • NMMagpie

Meryl’s expression is daring you to have an issue with what she is wearing.

I feel that Abigail Breslin is going to be problematic for a while on the RC. She’s tiny, has a baby face, a large chest and does not want to be seen as a child star anymore. It’s going to be rough. She keeps dressing to age herself and it’s not working.

Props to Natalie Dormer for busting out the best “IT’S FOR A ROLE” fierceness ever.

    • heartbot

I think Abigail tends to choose things that cover up her body, because she’s not stick thin like other starlettes. So she chooses things that only older women would wear…and would probably look good on someone in her 60s. Unfortunately, she’s in her teens.

      • sagecreek

Yep, you’ve nailed the issue. And it kind of breaks my heart, but she’s going to have to work her way thru it. Poor kid.

        • heartbot

Breaks my heart, too, and all the more so because even if she’s not a rail, she’s still quite petite. Without the sleeves, and in a color other than black, the dress would have looked fantastic on her. Hollywood does a number on young girls’ perceptions of themselves.

          • Maybe we can find a way to get Mindy Kaling to mentor her.

    • princessricky

i can’t believe stella mccartney made a shroud for meryl streep. she’s still got parts to play!

    • fursa_saida

I’m sort of embarrassingly excited to be hair twinsies with Natalie Dormer. The real question is whether I can convince myself this is an excuse to get an ear cuff.

      • NMMagpie

        Just DO IT.

  • ashtangajunkie

Helen Mirren is always the sexiest person on the red carpet. And probably everywhere else she goes.

    • SportifLateBoomer

This is actually my goal in life (though no red carpets in my future, however). She’s a major role model on so many levels.

  • colleenjanel

Queen Helen for the win! Everyone else in the rundown pales in comparison!!!!
Why oh why has Abigail Breslin been dressing like a cheap Mae West lately?
And who told Ariel Winter that babyheads on a 15 year old is an appealing look? (It’s not as obvious in this picture, but I’ve seen other pictures where her boobs appear to be up to her chin)

    • marlie

I agree. The cleavage on Ariel Winter’s dress is really vulgar and inappropriate for someone her age.

      • In_Stitches

Vulgar? She’s wearing a floor length dress with straps…that’s pretty conservative when compared to her peers.

        • marlie

As colleen mentioned, in other pictures not posted here, there’s way more cleavage, and it DOES seem to be practically up to her chin. It’s too much boob for a 15-year-old. And as for her peers, none of the other 15-year-olds are displaying that much skin. Abigail Breslin is 17, and while the dress she’s wearing is too mature in style, I personally don’t think there’s too much skin showing. I think there’s a big difference between what’s appropriate from 15 to 17.

I get that Ariel Winter is well-endowed, and that it might be difficult to dress a 15-year-old with that figure in age-appropriate clothes, but I personally think this dress is too showing much.

        • colleenjanel

I think what was vulgar is that they put her in a dress that was not fitted well to her “assets.” They put 10 lbs. of boob in a 5 lb. sack, so to speak. So she looked waaay more “boobalicious” than any 15 year old should be. She’s well endowed, and needs a dress that will fit that properly.

      • somebody blonde

While that’s true, I remember being a well-endowed 15-year-old. I DEFINITELY wanted the goods on way too much display- I wore push-up bras when I shouldn’t have. It’s true that her style team should steer her away from that, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that amount of cleavage is what she wants.

  • Has Julie Bowen split a seam in her bodice?

I think Kelly Osbourne wins this round. Partly because if Zac told her to stand in an s-shape she ignored him.

    • mommyca

I noticed the same thing in the bodice…. that’s unfortunate 🙁

    • Jacob Bowen

Oh my gosh yessssss! Hahahahaha I don’t think Kelly would fall for that s-pose nonsense! Kelly also knows the key to ANY Zac Posen dress is a good fit, so she clearly used her own tailor.

  • nannypoo

I love Julie Bowen’s dress. The colors, the shape, the pattern, the originality – I love everything about it.

Abigail Breslin is dressing more and more like Miss Kitty. She looks ridiculous.

    • tallgirl1204

Julie Bowen’s was my personal favorite. It was something very fresh and interesting, and it was flattering to boot.

    • SugarSnap108

I’m mostly in love with Julie Bowen’s. If the bodice were simpler, it would be a WERQ to me. Love the skirt, and love how off-beat the whole look is.

  • M_E_S

Natalie Dormer looks SO DAMN FIERCE. She is totally embracing that hair and I looooooooove it.

  • Frank_821

    Kelly is looking fierce

    • That is probably the one time I like that hair colour on her. But please Kelly, enough with the lilac rinse. I don’t want to see it again until you are in your 80’s.. 🙂

  • The sleeves is what makes the outfit for Natalie Dormer. Such a great look from head to toe.

Queen Helen looks beautiful. That’s my kinda dress but I think it’s a bit over designed. Maybe make the sleeves just black.

  • colleenjanel

Kelly O will not ever get a win from me until she gets rid of that ridiculous hair color. It was “quirky” for a while. Now it’s just stale.

  • Lime

    All bow to Queen Helen.
    And Kelly Osbourne looks amazing.
The Stark girls are so cute, yet they keep on wearing thirty-something makeup and gowns. Girls, you’re teenagers, for heaven’s sake!

  • marlie

Seriously, Amanda Peet – WHAT THE HELL?
Emilia Clarke looks lovely, As does Lena Heady (who gets it wrong more often than right).
I HATE Natalie Dormer’s hair. HATE.

    Elizabeth Moss looks pretty.

And this might be my favorite look ever of Kelly Osbourne’s. The dress is cool, and fits her perfectly. And I like her hairstyle. She should stick to simpler ‘dos like that with her hair color.

    And Helen Mirren: PERFECTION.

    • marlie

After learning that Natalie Dormer’s hair is for a role, it bugs me a little less. I still don’t like it, but I get how she might as well have fun with the style while she has it.

  • TropiCarla

Amanda Peet and Edie Falco clearly wandered in from the pages of a Geometry textbook. The chapter on Tessellations and Symmetry must be so bare without these illustrations.

Look, kids. Ms. Peet’s skirt is one of Escher’s only fashion pieces.

  • Patrick Cleary

I kind of love how Sandra Bullock always looks mildly pissed off to be on the red carpet.

    • largishbearishAtlish

I still dearly wish Sandra could have done a Wonder Woman years ago…look at those legs! can’t you just see her (a few years ago) in some bullet proof bracelets?

  • sagecreek

Hey, Mayim Bialik. See Helen Mirren’s dress? See how it’s modest but yet striking and well made? See how people aren’t laughing at her?

    • Introspective

jesus herman christ blossom’s got on the ugliest thing my eyes have seen in a while. and that’s even with all the fug that has been happening on this and the golden globes RC. you are right–she needs to talk to helen about how to be covered but still get it right.

  • It was only when the boys made the point about Sophie Turner’s ribbon that I realised it *wasn’t* a strip of skin.

  • decormaven

All that’s missing from Malin A’s outfit is the Aztec headdress.

  • Kelly

I love Helen Mirren. She makes great, edgy-but-appropriate fashion choices, and most of the time, they work like mad. But not quite this time — too much going on with the dress, too much fabric, too much decoration, too much earring. IMO, anyway. Sarah Paulson — I literally said, “Oh, no!” aloud when I saw this. It’s the dress a 12-year-old would wear to her first-ever “big girl” event. And Edie — I think she must have hated this ensemble as much as I do; in every picture I’ve seen of her, her expression is totally grim. Poor Abby Breslin — she keeps dressing like a 40-something on her way to a big night at the honky-tonk.

But I sorta like Pauley Perrette’s thrift-shop chic. It’s like a retro ’30s art-deco ball gown. Fred Astaire is going to arrive any minute to sweep her out onto the dance floor.

    • sagecreek

Yeah, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Edie less put together. No wonder she’s pissed.

      I like PP’s look, too!

      • marlie

This is probably the best Pauley Perrette has looked on the red carpet, so I’ll cut her a little slack.

  • Sobaika

I need to party with Natalie Dormer.

    • marlie

She reminds me of the “mean girls” that I can’t stand. 😛

  • HeatherMcIlrath

I thought my girl crush on Natalie Dormer couldn’t grow any stronger.

    and then it did.

  • MoHub

And Queen Helen wins again. Really like Kelly O., though.

  • sagecreek

Am I the only one who likes Gretchen Mol’s look? Simple yet striking.

    • charlotte

Is it me or does she look a lot like Kate Hudson here?

      • sagecreek

Kate is on my Irrational Hate List, so I’m recusing myself from this one 🙂

    • Scimommy

      Not the only one.

  • Beth

I look at Sarah Paulson and I think “First Communion.”

    • another_laura

Yes, and it’s MY first communion, which was in the early 60s. Lord, that’s a bad dress and hair.

  • BuffaloBarbara

That tomato red might photograph better if it weren’t coming up from an actual red carpet. But, you know… they kind of know that’s coming when they pick their clothes.

Julie Bowen’s is kind of cute (the skirt part), but for some reason, it seems more like a relaxing-in-the-beach-house thing than a red carpet thing.

Sarah Paulson… is that a vintage prom dress from the ’50s? I don’t mind the shape as much as you guys, but she’s another one who shouldn’t be wearing white for flash photos.

That ribbon on Sophie Turner’s really is odd.

Speaking of house dresses, Meryl… that looks really comfortable. You know, actually, if you’re Meryl-damned-Streep, maybe you can wear a comfortable dress. Unless she’s up for something that will put her on stage? (I’m afraid I’m not tuned in to this year’s award bait.)

    • Hiptobesquare

But even if you’re Meryl-damned-Streep, you cannot wear that same ultra-hiddy pair of satin peep-toe pumps. She wears them all the time. They need to be burned.

  • misstressofsylar

Natalie Dormer is everything. She got the haircut for Mockingjay. I can’t wait to see her in that!

  • Anna

I think I give up with Abigail. She’s looking like an in mourning version of Jennifer Coolidge’s character in Best in Show. If that’s how she wants to spend her late teens dressing, then fine.

Natalie Dormer and Helen Mirren (of course), win. Sandra Bullock deserves better than an ’80s bridesmaids dress and the whole world, especially Meryl Streep, deserves better than a Stella McCartney elastic, drop-waisted trashbag. But at least she has the imperious smirk going for her.

    • sagecreek

Alas, I’d say more Leslie Fay than Stella McCartney. Reminded me of taking my mom to genealogy conventions.

      • Anna

Very, VERY vintage Leslie Fay. Although it’s not surprising either that it’s Stella McCartney.

  • schadenfreudelicious

Abigail, give that dress to Dame Helen she will rock the shit out of it….

  • Janet B

I’d rather see Abigail dress trashy than like an old lady.
Elastic waistbands are okay, but only if they are hidden and not a design feature.

    • Laura Renee

But then you’d have everyone here screeching at her to class it up, don’t go the slut route, and there’s no way for ladystars — especially such young ones — to win, is there? :/

Not looking to argue, just musing on how impossible it is for young female celebrities to win approval.

      • Janet B

I’d rather see her dress like others her age, without refined taste, than wearing dresses more suitable to Helen Mirren.

I do see your point, but I don’t see trashy and slutty as the same thing.

        • Laura Renee

I appreciate your point and distinction, but unfortunately I know that so many others see no distinction.

        • Imasewsure

Gotta agree… at least then she would grow out of it… at this rate, she’ll be wearing a coffin by the end of awards season
She looks like Mae West which works great… if you are Mae West!

  • Kent Roby

Miss Peet, “Sister Wife Going To Her First Disco” is not your look.

    • Imasewsure

Definitely had that anachronistic and awkward “trapped in a cultural time warp” Sister Wife vibe… oh yeah and it was really ugly!! :

  • FunButNutz

Why is Edie Falco wearing Tracey Turnblad’s roach dress from Hairspray?

  • carnush

I LOVE AWARDS SEASON. These rundowns are the BEST.

    • largishbearishAtlish

      Thank you T’lo.

  • Kent Roby

Too many of Edie Falco’s butterflies look like they’ve been ripped apart because of the seaming, especially in the bodice.

  • Amanda Peet’s dress is in that Escher print Sky and Water where the birds turn into fish.

  • filmcricket

The “sleeve treatment” on Dormer’s dress actually goes all the way around the back. It looks like she took some of that cheap ribbon stuff we Madonna wannabes used to put in our hair in the 80s and safety-pinned it to the dress. It would be a pretty bland white dress without those pieces, but surely there was some less ugly way to make that gown more rock ‘n’ roll.

  • Sam Smith

Most of the GOT gals brought it!! Love Lena’s look. As for Abigail, I feel like she keeps dressing too mature b/c she has put on some weight (she is probably still a size 2 or 4) and seems to be struggling dressing her more adult body. Love the color of Jane’s dress. I seriously need to find a dress for me in that color for an upcoming gala.

    • pinkxxa

Yeah but her styling choices somehow make it more obvious. I used to be shaped similarly at her age and girl… just no, dressing like a middle aged woman trying to get her groove back is not the way to go. I just want to cut off that hair, wash off that make up and give her something simple, flowy, youthful. Ultimately I think what is hurting her most is that you can tell she doesn’t feel comfortable.

  • filmcricket

Oh, and I’m just going to say it: can Amanda Peet go away? Like, forever? She is a prime example of someone trying to make fetch happen, and it’s not happening. She’s pretty enough, but as an actor she is so bland and she cannot dress herself for love nor money. If she wants to go on writing and doing work behind the camera, I say go for it.

    • marlie

Her husband is one of the writers for Game of Thrones, so I think we’re stuck with her for a little while.

      • filmcricket

I didn’t know that. Bleh. I mean, good for her I hope they’re happy. But she bores me to tears.

  • Jessica Freeman

The color of Sandra’s dress would have been stunning, but the execution was all sorts of a fail.
Kelly’s hair style is all wrong for that dress.
Malin needs a stylist. She fails every time.
If Abigail would have taken off the shrug, this would have been a completely different, and much better look.
Jane for the win this round.

  • KinoEye

Queen Helen, shutting it down. Love how the older ladystars owned this RC, and made all the young, desperate things look like pretenders. Love the fabric of Headey’s dress, and Jane Krakowski looks smashing, which makes me happy.

  • Kimmu

If Natalie Dormer showed up at my apartment looking like that, I would drop everything and immediately run away with her and possibly wage war for her as well. Her hair was fucking fierce as shit and I loved the whole look.

  • Jecca2244

took me ten minutes to realize who Lena was…without the wig I’m all thrown off! Re Abigail, i can’t image being young and having to get dressed for these things and have a well endowed busom. I think it makes it tougher. love Natalie…wonder if she shaved her head for her upcoming turn in Hunger Games….

    • Erica_Vuitton

Re: Natalie – yes it’s for Mockingjay

  • Melissa Mendes

I don’t know why, but every time I see Emilia Clarke’s dress, it reminds me of a sparkly dildo.

  • Maryanne525

I hear you on Sandy’s dress, but I have to say holy HELL her legs are spectacular!

    • Gatto Nero

That’s why she keeps going for those dated, tulip-shaped things.

      • Maryanne525

Yes…that is why I said, “I hear you on Sandy’s dress.”

  • Qitkat

All Helen Mirren needs are castanets.
Edie Falco must have had Alfred Hitchcock coming at her in her nightmares.
Oh, Mary Louise. What The Frock?

    • Gatto Nero

Re: Meryl, I blame Stella. (I usually do.)

      • demidaemon

It’s easy, but also the correct person to put the blame upon.

  • lobsterlen

Caught one those entertainment shows last night …
Their fashion “expert” voted Sandra Bullock best dressed?!?!?! In green tin foil! This is why she ends up on my irrational hate list . She will be shoved down our throats from now until Oscars. Her publicity machine is so aggressive and obvious.

    • sagecreek

Alas, US magazine had Kerry Washington’s crop top on its best dressed list. This is why I only read Original T-Lo.

      • Imasewsure

Yes they are not to be trusted… and they are wrong as well of course. TLo only is a very good plan I think

        • marlie

I don’t even always agree with TLo, but at least you have a good understanding of why they think the way they do, rather than “She’s the IT girl/she’s my favorite, so she HAS to be best-dressed!”

          • Gatto Nero

At least we know that TLo are not part of the publicity machine. We can trust them to be impartial and honest.

  • ana170

I’m think Sandra’s dress looks more like drapery fabric. People would be sliding to the floor if that were used to upholster a chair.

I’ve come to realize that I really dislike the long-hair-with-shaved-sides hairstyle. Regardless of the actress wearing it, I always feel like somebody’s mother, pleading, “Why do you do these ugly things with your hair? Don’t you want everyone to see how pretty you are?”

    • J-Ko

I hear the hair is for her role in “Mockingjay”.

    • somebody blonde

I can’t speak to the reasons why actresses do it, but a lot of Asian girls who went to my high school did it because they had incredibly thick hair and didn’t want to deal with all of it. Most of them styled it so it wasn’t noticeable most of the time, but the more daring ones showed off the shaved sides.

  • claudemtl777

Please someone explain how the nightie on isla fisher(rundown pt1) is old school glam, while emilia clark shiny column is dull? Oh yes….oscar de la renta

  • BobStPaul

Sandra Bullock looked spectacular. I do not understand the criticism.

    • Imasewsure

I think the dress is pretty bad. Sandy looks beautiful but that style doesn’t do anything for her at all and the fabric looks really cheap I think

      • Shawn EH

Lanvin can swing and miss; that leg slit is unflattering, but the top is nice I think.

    • marlie

The color is great, and I even like the fabric and the top half of the dress, but the bottom half looks a little dated.

    • Gatto Nero

The color is pretty on her, but it stops there for me.

  • DeTrop

Love the color on Sandra Bullock. Once again Meryl Streep chooses badly. (Well she is pretty consistent).

Oh. Natalie Dormer channeling Seth AAron. Yuk, yuk and yuk.

Lena Headey FTW. Love that pattern and shape.

BTW, who is Lena Headey? For that matter, who is Natalie Dormer?

    • Shawn EH

Lena’s in the 300 movies. Natalie Dormer is on Elementary and Game of Thrones. Both look great, Sarah Paulson really needs to get over her ballerina phase.

      • DeTrop

        Thank you.

        • somebody blonde

Also, both Lena Headey and Natalie Dormer look MASSIVELY different in their parts on Game of Thrones. It took me a long time to put two and two together when they appear on TLo.

  • “goddesses shouldn’t have elastic waistbands” is a rule to live by, red carpet-wise.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

I really like the color of Sandra Bullock’s dress, and she was really having fun on the RC with this.
I liked Julie Bowen, and MR. B3 remarked that her Carolina Herrera was “loud, in a quiet way”.

  • Tracy_Flick

    Sandra Bullock’s going to prom.
Abigail Breslin is going to sing jazz standards in smoky bar.
Maisie Williams is about to get married.
Lena Headey is going to the beach and needs an umbrella.

Other than that, my only comment is that I hate Gretchen Mol’s shoes worse than anythiing I’ve seen in ages, and Julie Bowen’s dress is puzzlingly unflattering for something so cool.

    • marlie

I went back to look at Gretchen Mol’s shoes and I realized… I think she’s wearing HOSE! Honey, not with those shoes.

      • Tracy_Flick

It looks like hose, but I think it’s actually a sheer toe on the shoe.

        • sagecreek

Yep, it’s def the shoes. Look at her knees.

Although I do look forward to the day returning when a decently stockinged leg is not seen as some kind of faux pas.

Also, you kids get off my lawn.

          • marlie

Stockings/hose are fine with me, but for a second I thought it was hose with an open-toed shoe, which will never be ok in my book.

          • sagecreek

          • Coolekat

That day can’t come soon enough for me.

          • I thought Cathy Cambridge had made this day appear a good couple of years ago? 🙂

Stockings are always great in my opinion, as long as the shoes do not show the toes because that is a bad look even if you are Cathy Cambridge.

        • marlie

          I think you’re right. Whew!

  • “Don’t come at me with your gowns and jewels and shit…” – diss I intend to work into…everything.

  • snarkykitten

Edie Falco has butterflies coming forth from her vagina. Like that gag in Bruce Almighty with the monkeys

    • Gatto Nero

Oh, Edie. I love her so. And she could look stunning! Someone guide her please.

  • Shawn EH

Okay, something is up when Julie Bowen and Kelly Osborne win the red carpet.

  • Lilyana_F

Aaaand Helen Mirren shuts it down yet again!

  • jilly_d

#1. And I mean this in a totally body-snark free way – I love that there are a good number of ladies on this RC who are rocking a little arm and boob meat. I am sure in real life they are still tiny size 2/4/6’s but, it’s so thrilling to see stars whose bones are not in danger of poking through their skin. What I mean to say is, these gals look great.

#2. Things I also love: the amount of Game of Thrones stars on this RC.

#3. Can I just. Natalie Dormer. I want to be her AND do her. And I’m a straight gal. What an ass kicker.

    edited for spelling

I’m wondering whether some of these celebrities thought they were going to an Under the Sea themed dance instead of the SAG Awards. Alfre Woodard looks like a jellyfish and Amanda Peet is being attacked by starfish. Juliette Lewis got her wires crossed and opted for Belle hair. If we can get J Law to put on her Golden Globes dress we have Ariel. She was a week ahead.

  • Gatto Nero

    Elizabeth Moss looks smashing.
Lena Headey’s dress is an unexpected and gorgeous RC pick. THe quality of the fabric elevates the print.
Helen Mirren: I want to be her when I grow up.

  • save_the_hobbit

Natalie Dormer has the same haircut as me. I think she got it for a movie or whatever, but it’s cool to see someone rocking it on the red carpet!

  • ‘Becca’lise Deveaux

Lena Headey’s dress reminds me of the one Myrna Loy wore in the first Thin Man movie…love striped dresses!

    • Coolekat

It would be glorious also if she were in her Cercie coloring.

  • alyce1213

Abigail Breslin and Sophie Turner apparently have the same stylist.

I think the problem with Pauley Perrette’s look is her tentative, awkward pose and inadequate styling (hair, lack of jewelry). I actually love the dress — I’m a sucker for ’30s style. If she worked that dress like a glamour queen, with confidence, it wouldn’t look like it came from a thrift store.

Meryl Streep in Stella’s black sack with elastic should never be.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

Amanda Peet’s dress reminds me of an M. C. Escher print.

  • largishbearishAtlish

Does Gretchen Mol think she is at the beach? that looks like something you would wear in a upscale gym while stepping into the sauna, not the R/C.

and I cut Pauley Perrette some slack….considering her character on….no, on second look..this IS an R/C- dazzle us, don’t grab something from the back of the closet (or maybe mom is staying over and you got it from her closet?) sigh

  • Kathi

    Kelly’s bob is adorable.

  • bellafigura1

Helen Mirren’s dress is horrifically overblown. That Headey lady’s striped halter dress is stunning. Everyone else, eh, and my old friend Sandy is now officially on my style nerves.

  • PeaceBang

Rolling my eyes over the Stella McCartney monstrosity on La Streep: how inexcusable. Queen Helen is sex on a stick, as usual, and I really love the Zac Posen on Kelly O. It’s stunning. I eagerly await any plausible explanation for Sarah Paulson’s hair. (?)

  • Coolekat

Does Abigail Breslin not have a stylist? Someone please help her. It makes me sad.

    • quiltrx

Me too, I just love her, and she doesn’t even seem to be enjoying any of this herself. And at 17, you should at least be wearing something you like, even if it doesn’t turn out so well.
And for the tenth time at least, I’ll say I’m PRAYING this hair is for a role!

  • Akemi

Sandra Bullock looks like she’s a month late for a Christmas party.

  • a_liking

huh, never realized how much alike Maisie Williams and Sarah Hyland look. like, I’m pretty sure Sarah is what Maisie will look like in seven years.

  • quiltrx

Some sort of planet convergence has occurred! I’m pretty sure that’s the first Kelly Osborne look I’ve ever found “Pin-worthy”, and the first Zac Posen too…all in the same look!
The seaming and pleating reminds me of some of J Lo’s costuming in ‘The Cell’, which was awesome.

  • littlemac8

Poor Edie Falco. I love her so much in Nurse Jackie and that after an amazing run as Mrs. Soprano, but the girl has no sense of style and has never been able to dress herself for the red carpet. Too bad: it looks like she never worked with a stylist and she could look soooo much better. Sads.

  • titaness25

It looks like Kelly Osbourne is trying to make Zenon the Zequel’s fashion happen in real life and I love her for it.

  • katiessh

    natalie dormer is bad ass

  • Kathy Monkman

    A T Shirt and a sheet. heehee

  • mdcoon127

I actually really love Sandra Bullock’s look and dress here…as well as Kelly Osborn..

  • Brittany

I like Sandra’s shoes. Just had to say it.

  • That Jenny Packham dress is gasp-worthy.

  • Kikishua

Amanda Peet’s skirt reminds me of that Escher print with birds going in opposite directions
