WERQ: Kelly Rowland in Roland Mouret at the 2013 Winter Ball for Autism

Posted on December 04, 2013

It may not be the most interesting gown in the world…

Kelly Rowland attends the Winter Ball for Autism at Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City in a Roland Mouret gown paired with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

But it’s hard to deny that she’s WERQing the shit out of this look – or at the very least, WERQing the shit out of DAT ASS.

Is it us or does she suddenly look like Donna Summer?

Please someone fast-track a Donna Summer biopic starring Ms. Kelendria here. PLEASE.

      • alyce1213

Donna Summer has an interesting life story, I’d watch it.

        • Shawn EH

The German years alone … Lifetime, are you listening?

          • Rand Ortega

I think we can do better than that (Liz & Dick? Donatella? *shudders*). HBO at the very least. My suggestion would be getting Lee Daniels (the 21st century Douglas Sirk) to write and direct.

            • Shawn EH

My sights are lower, it’s true: I’d be thrilled with a Gena Gershon/Donatella level production!

            • Rand Ortega

Miss Donna was a pioneer in many ways, but controversial, too. I think she deserves a “Lady Sings The Blues”, “Sweet Dreams” or “Coal Miners Daughter” level biopic.

            • Shawn EH

Thank that through, though: Diana Ross, Jessica Lange, Sissy Spacek …. and Kelly Rowland?

            • Rand Ortega

Very true. But who knew who Angela Bassett was or how good until “What’s Love Got To Do With It”? The same for JHud before “Dreamgirls”.
(And if Zoe Saldana can be cast as Nina Simone (!), anything’s possible)

            • E2_Remote

Shut up, Zoe Saldana as Nina?? Love Zoe, but that casting is waaaaay off.

            • paultoes

It’s happening. The movie will be out next year.

            • Rand Ortega

Go into TLo’s search & type Nina Simone. You’ll find an incredibly intelligent, spirited discussion on that very topic.

            • Shawn EH

Well, I knew, because of Malcolm X and Passion Fish; and J-Huds had the good fortune of being launched by the perfect vehicle for her talent (plus that stellar Sex in the City cameo); if they go big budget for Donna, however (and I doubt they will, her star had faded and was too linked too the maligned disco era, which only gets high concept “regrets” nostalgia pieces these days), you know they’ll also have to go for Beyonce or someone A-list. Who’s small but can act? What if it went to Michelle Williams rather than Kelly, she’s done Broadway, LOL!

            • Rand Ortega

Of course, Shawn, but you’re in the minority as a far as general audiences go. Discerning film fans may have known AB’s work, film executives at the time didn’t, which is why it took a lot of convincing, even from TT herself, for AB to be cast (I know & have worked with several people who were on that shoot). No film about a person of color, particularly a woman, regardless of her Q, or that of the actress to play her, is an easy sell. WLGTDWI is 20+ years old. This years abundance (though the idea 6 films is an abundance is really pathetic) is an anomaly to say the least. However, like the films featuring African Americans this year, it takes talent like the Lee Daniels or Steve McQueens or even Ryan Murphys to make a project of this type their passion & sell it to the studios. A DS biography would have 2 elements going for it: An anti hero that went against what was expected of her race & gender by leaving the States to sing rock music in Europe, triumphantly returning to pioneer a new kind of music here; and the ’70’s/80’s are a very popular era for films to depict these days. “American Hustle” & “Dallas Buyers Club” immediately come to mind.
So that’s my long winded way of saying I think a feature project is possible with KR as DS, if the right talent were on board to craft it then sell it.

            • Shawn EH

I know, that latter part is kind of a minefield, because you’d have to tread carefully to negotiate her gay fan base, her gospel background, her spiritual rebirth (how do you logically put “Love to Love You Baby” with “I Believe in Jesus?” I can because I was buying everything she put out at the time, but it’s quite the journey). You’d really have to underline the historical context of the early days of the epidemic, too, when the closet was real and gay sex was outside of polite society. I agree the right director could sell it … what about Spike Lee in his new commercial phase?

I can’t believe WLGTDWI was 20 years ago! I still remember the night I went to see it. Of course, come to think of it, the theater where I saw it is gone now….

            • Rand Ortega

Wow. Heady stuff. Catnip for the right artist!
              I know. 20 years!

    • Introspective

Ms Kelly is SERVING. Face, hair, body, butt. It all werqs and Im not mad at it.

    • kittenwithaquip

Oh, I definitely see Donna Summer. And you’re right: DAT ASS! It is a thing of beauty and wonder.

      • conniemd

If it was a magazine picture I’d swear DAT ASS was photoshopped.

    • Diego!

WERQING AND SERVING DONNA REALNESS!!! This is STUNNING! :D

    • http://dontmakeitlikeimdumb.blogspot.com/ annabelle archer

Hate the undone hair…coughwigcough….had that been in an updo, I’d be all about the WERQ.

      • Jessica Freeman

        My thoughts exactly…too. much. hair.

      • mshesterp

And the makeup…I think she put it on with a trowel. But anything from the neck down I’m all about it.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I really hate her makeup here.

    • hughman

This witch owns all the other hair salons Angela Bassett doesn’t.

    • Aidan B

      Holy shit.

    • lunchcoma

I wasn’t getting what was so special about this, and then I saw that last picture. A dress that fits you like that is a prize to be treasured.

    • Nika E

      Yes ma’am

    • LaSylphide

Now *that* is a great figure. And that’s the way to show off the girls. Awful hair, though. Why do all these beautiful women hide their faces under bangs (I’m talking to you, Octavia Spencer)?

      • makeityourself

Aren’t the girls new? Like within the last few months? And didn’t she just get engaged?. I looked for a ring, and there isn’t one, so maybe I make all of this up as I go along.

        • LaSylphide

Well, if the girls are fake, she’s certainly showing them off to good advantage. Usually, they are painfully obvious. Maybe the hair is hiding them.

        • kimmeister

She augmented the girls a number of years ago. Not sure if she’s revisited their size since.

    • alyce1213

That dress is fabulous on her body, no doubt. But her hair (wig) is too long, once again covering the nice neckline of the dress and décolletage. The bangs are giving a Donna Summer vibe big time, and yeah, she’s the one to play her.

      • Constant Reader

The Lee Press On Nail reverse French manicure.

      • kimmeister

Yes – it looks like her nails are developing gangrene.

        • fursa_saida

I see blood blisters. It’s awful.

    • lesmaha

      yes, yes and yes!!!!

    • NBG

Let this be a lesson to the stars who wear illusion mesh messes best suited for a GYN appointment, Miss Kelly is in long sleeves and a full length gown and looks sexier than all of you.

      • Stella Zawistowski

        PREACH.

    • sagecreek

I do like the cuff detail!

I do not like the “yes, I paid my museum admission” pin.

      • AnguaVonUberwald

But that’s the “Autism Speaks” logo. Or do you dislike that it is a logo?

      • MilaXX

As mentioned it’s the Autism Speaks logo, not a fashion accessory. She’s wearing it because that’s the event she’s supporting.

        • alyce1213

It’s a meaningful logo — a jigsaw puzzle piece, also shaped like a child.

    • Mona_Visa

SLAIN by last photo. That is god’s own booty right there.

      • NBG

        Praise be, it sure is.

      • Julie

I spat out my tea at your last line. LOL.

      • CakesOnAPlane

Is it just me or does it seem to be reaching for the heavens?

    • smh4748

Damn. I think that last picture throws some serious doubt onto everything we thought we knew about the laws of gravity.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

      That manicure is killer.

      • Sweetvegan

        Yes, I love that manicure!

    • Shug

What do I need to do to have that booty? Good gawd, she is smokin’ hot. Love it.

    • MilaXX

      BAM! Kelly looks good!

    • mjude

exactly donna summer realness. she looks great!

    • Morales Mike

It’s not you TLo. In that first pic I was startled by the similarity in looks to Donna Summer.

    • marlie

She DOES look like Donna Summer, though she also looks a little like the Black Sofia Vergara here, with the tight, mermaid gown, the bangs, and the cocker spaniel hair.

      • alyce1213

        … and great ass.

    • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

      Wow, gorgeous!

    • boweryboy

Oh, yes! She totally looks like Love is in Control era Donna Summer.

I love the little zing of bling on her wrist, and that dress is bodacious booty badass.

    • French_Swede

Oh my. She is gorgeous, the dress is gorgeous, love the nails …. perfect!

    • Snailstsichr

      Va Va VOOM!

    • zenobar

Clearly I need to find a job that doesn’t involve sitting on my ass for eight hours a day.

    • rissa42210

      SLAY

    • Ginny Ellsworth

She looks like she should be clipping the blooms off of long stemmed roses.

    • Rand Ortega

Another moment of KABLAM! brought to you by Miss KTR.

    • Trickytrisha

      Wowser…

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

not very festive, but my that is some prodigious ass!

    • Jacob Bowen

That dress and body-ody-ody is DEFINITELY a WEERRRQQQ but I am annoyed by the bracelet because of the sleeve length. It looks the designer though a little design would look cute on the end of the sleeve but forgot to put it on the other.

    • ballerinawithagun

Is that fabulous piece on her left wrist a cuff/bracelet or is it attached to the dress?
      Wow!!!

    • Kent Roby

Minor quibble: the EKG cuff is interesting, but on top of the sleeve I first thought it was just bad embellishment. Major props for working the heck out of that simple dress (thanks to her killer bod and pretty face).

    • decormaven

Looks great, and she knows it! Sail on, beauty.

    • Chaiaiai

Puts down holiday cruller, begins squat routine in five, four, three….

Also, Miss Kelly, you show all those tacky bitches with their dime store wigs how it IS DONE.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

WOW. Nothing more articulate to add.

    • GeoDiva

      Her body is slamming!

    • http://www.wordydoodles.com WordyDoodles

She looks gorgeous in that lip color! And the dress fits so beautifully, makes her look so statuesque.

    • formerlyAnon

      Whoa!
      WERQ is right!

    • quiltrx

There must be some complicated rigging that makes her booty that perky all the time!
And I dunno about the look…yes it fits her great, but with the clinging style and the big ol’ hair, it’s coming off a little Real Housewives to me.

    • YoungSally

I don’t know about the black half moon manicure — to be honest it looks like what was left over when my lab supervisor accidentally shot a yag laser through his thumb.

    • webslice33

      that ass!!

    • LeelaST

The allure of that silhouette escapes me.

    • pookiesmom

Not a huge fan of this. That is one glorious, gravity-defying booty, though.

    • MGMcD

Dear baby Jesus, please bring me the body of Kelly Rowland for Christmas.

      • MGMcD

        Wait. That’s not what I meant…

    • valerie747

“WERK” vs “TWERK”, you decide. Close call.

      • valerie747

PS – Linda Grey (Dallas) called, she wants her dress back.

    • StillGary

I don’t know — it’s kind of Jolie with that hair — not my favorite look from this stunning lady but I too would love to see her in “Last Dance: Donna Summer!”

    • Milos Mom

This looks so dated and plain. Blah. Bad call on this one boys.

    • Fred Vaughn

Sometimes, competency has to suffice where WOW! factor can’t be there.
