Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard in SoHo, New York City

Posted on December 10, 2013

They’re adorable and street-stylish and we want to be their friends.

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peters Sarsgaard seen in SoHo, New York City.

But alas, their execrable history on the red carpet probably prevents such things. They’d hate us for being so judgmental and we simply wouldn’t be able to stop judging them. It’s not meant for our kind to mix with their kind.

A shame, really. We want to have a boozy brunch with them where we discuss intellectual shit like literature and the underground theatre scene and extraneous vowels, and then all go shopping together while tipsy until one of us laughs so hard in a dressing room they pee a little. That would be awesome.

Maybe they should just dress like this for the red carpet.

  • Seeing her rock that hat, there is no excuse for her not to go for a turban on the red carpet.

  • MilaXX

I kinda think they should switch hats.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

YES! They should totally switch hats – then their outfits would borderline on perfect!

    • Bridget Smith

Honestly, I think the hats look equally awesome either way! She looks so Anna Karenina in this one.

  • Jeremiah Capacillo

    Coat porn on Sarsgaard.

    • Sarah

I want to go at it with a pill-shaving device. But it is a very nice coat.

      • StellaZafella

If it’s mohair…and it looks like mohair…I would leave the pill shaver on the table and just snuggle in.

        • Sarah

I may be overly biased against fuzziness because of quadruple cat ownership. I’m convinced I’m fuzzy even when I’m probably not (much).

      • kimmeister

        Do those things really work?

        • Sarah

Yeah, if it’s a good one. Like, motorized with a battery. I don’t know what brand I have, but it will rip the fuzz right off of anything and store it in a little reservoir. Pretty much like a man’s electric razor, with bigger holes and a sort of fan-blade behind it. You have to be careful to not shave your garment through!

          • kimmeister

Hmmm, I’ll have to look one of those. Then I’ll have to practice before I have a go on my clothes, or else all of my clothes will have mohawks.

    • Clueless_Jock

      I want his coat.

      • demidaemon

I read this as ” I want his c***.” Clearly, I am deprived.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

We do need a coat porn category here at TLo Central. Add this one to my personal list. Also loving his hat.

  • mmebam

Hell, let’s talk about extraneous vowels. They make my head hurt.

Also, the color of his coat is adorable.

  • formerlyAnon

Yup. I don’t know quite what it is about these photos, – maybe that they look like an extra-attractive version of totally ordinary people? – but looking at these I could feel my opinion tipping over into “I love them as a couple” from a position of leaning-positive-neutrality.

  • I want to talk about sex with them. And hats.

    • Qitkat

I had to read this three times before I got it. Umm, my brain needs more oxygen this am? Damn, maybe I had better go work out after all.

      • pookiesmom

        I still don’t get it. :/

        • manina

Put a comma after the word sex. Then take it off and see if the meaning changes.

          • pookiesmom

Massive a-DOY moment on my part. Thanks for indulging my weary brain. 🙂

    • conniemd

A great example of eats, shoots and leaves.

      • manina

OMG That’s one of my favorite books.

  • Sarah

I like how Maggie is all Russian Sophisticate on top and snow-boots business on the bottom.

    • Kent Roby

Ha, the “Jeffrey’s” skit, which circles us right back to fashion!

  • marlie

Celebrities actually dressed appropriately for the weather! Her hat’s ridiculous, but it IS cold out, and otherwise they look cute.

    • ellisd123

      Ridiculous…ly AWESOME!

      FTFY 😉

  • lifeisastory

Is he wearing those mittens that fold back to reveal fingerless gloves inside?

    • Sarah

  • jw_ny

She’s kind of a hodgepodge of practicality, edge, and diva….which works for her, knowing her eclectic & eccentric style.

    He just looks sexy.

  • ashtangajunkie

I love her ridiculous hat and giant sunglasses.

    • EdithP

I think she could rock an Alexis Carrington Colby look. Maybe even a turban!

  • leahpapa

I lived down the street from them in Brooklyn. Once, while walking down the block with my daughter strapped to my chest in our baby carrier, I spotted her walking the opposite way with her daughter strapped to her chest, but I didn’t recognize her until her baby blanket slipped and I stooped to pick it up; she was appreciative and kind. We typically rode the subway with him and their older daughter as well, and I have to say, they seemed like essentially grounded, artsy people with a sense of humor. Which is exactly what they look like here. I cannot hate, no matter what their past red carpet sins may be.

    • Sarah

My cousin took yoga classes with Maggie in Brooklyn, too. She said she was super normal and nice (my cousin was disappointed. I think she wanted her to be a diva or something extraordinary haha).

  • teensmom99

I love my uncles! Great morning laugh for a snow-bound soul 🙂

  • decormaven

I am thankful they have on sensible shoes, coats and gloves. Her hat gives me Dr. Zhivago flashbacks.

  • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Cold weather NYC street chic is so awesome, and these two are nailing it.

  • bellafigura1

I hate her sunglasses, too LA for winter in NYC.

  • ojosazules

His coat is a beautiful color.

  • Qitkat

I adore the idea of hats, I just look ridiculous in most; but I’m thinking here, maybe I ought to get one like Maggie’s. Love it.

And love the whole boozy brunch/shopping/laughing scene. I’ll skip the peeing in the dressing room though!

  • MissKimP

    Can I tag along?

  • Shawn EH

This is a chicness highpoint for Maggie, isn’t it? Peter’s coat is just the right side of dowdy.

  • MartyBellerMask

    Love them!!

  • Laura Brown

I spent a lot of time in college wishing I could have a threesome with them.

  • alyce1213

I’m trying to read their expressions and body language hailing a cab. Looks to me like an untargeted arm lift, hoping an empty cab will come along, and she’s on the phone, either calling a car service or letting someone know they’ll be late. That’s my little drama for them. They look great.

  • E2_Remote

Yes! Celebrities in cute, but sensible, seasonably-appropriate clothing and shoes. I dig it.

  • Ohio718

I want her coat–can anyone ID it?

    • Gatto Nero

It’s a fishtail parka of some kind. There are lots out there.

  • Matthew Davie

    “Boris and Natasha” realness.

  • conniemd

Maggie out on the NY streets with her best accessory.

Not speaking of the coat, glasses or boots. If I had that accessory it would be on my arm (and more).

  • Miss wks

ye GODS! The double vowels and consonants in their names are enough to send me into an alphabet frenzy!…..

  • Imasewsure

I want her entire outfit but I need to move from CA to be able to wear it

  • Trickytrisha

Oh my gosh….. they’re real people! So refreshing to see celebs without the posing and/or pretending to be “just like us”. Peter and Maggie are just like us, only better dressed. And richer. And more talented. Oh hell, okay… maybe they’re not “just” like us, but they do look super cool here, extraneous vowels and all.

  • kalisa

She’s wearing a Raisa Gorbachev hat.

  • Jacob Bowen

Coat porn. I WANT HIS JACKET!

  • KT

Those are some fun hats! He looks a little like Ewan McGregor in these and perhaps that’s why I’m raising an eyebrow at him right now.

  • BridgetK

I have a (very old) hat like that and have never been brave enough to wear it! I’m totally going to do it now. She looks too cool not to at least give it a whirl.

    • Daktari100

We only get one go around, and this isn’t the dress rehersal for the real one. This is it, and life’s way too short NOT to wear it. You don’t want to be old one day and wish you’d had the nerve to wear the things you admired when you were of an appropriate age to do so.

      • BridgetK

        Well said!

  • Erica_Vuitton

GG LL AA AA I felt like I’m entering a cheat code or something. I want the cream sweater she’s got on under there it looks SUPER warm & cozy.
