Maggie Grace in Pamella Roland at the 8th Annual charity: ball Gala

Posted on December 19, 2013

Put her in some opera gloves and she could be selling Champagne:

Maggie Grace attends the 8th Annual charity: ball Gala at the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn, New York in a Pamella Roland black/sapphire lace jacquard off-the-shoulder gown.

Pamella Roland Pre-Fall 2013 Collection

It’s a gorgeous dress and she looks pretty amazing in it. Love the touch of the long-strand necklace. What a shame about THE WORST RED CARPET BACKDROP IN HISTORY. Is a stunt car gonna come plowing through these things in a minute?

What is with the biohazard cans as the backdrop? It just screams: Toxic event!

    • Latin Buddy

WTF? I was expecting to read it was a premiere for some car movie or something…it’s just a gala. I HOPE someone gets fired for this (just because nobody understands your ‘vision’ doesn’t make you an artist).

      • Lori

That’s not someone’s artist vision. The event is for a clean water charity and those containers are part of the water project is supports.

        • Carolyne

Thanks for making that clear – and at the risk of being burned at the stake, I must say, I like the backdrop!

        • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

Yup. I’m pretty sure it’s Charity: Water.

      • kimmeister

What, no comment about the black-and-navy combo? :-)

        • Latin Buddy

ha! No. The backdrop is THAT aesthetically offensive (however sentimentally appreciated and respected) and forgot to say I hate the navy/black combo.

          • http://www.GiftedCollector.com/ The Gifted Collector

I just want you to know that you are not alone. I also detest the black/navy combo and avoid it like the plague.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Really admirable fit on this dress. It suits to a T.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

so refreshing to see a well-fitted gown, isn’t it?

      • http://www.wordydoodles.com WordyDoodles

        To a T-Lo, even? (sorry, I couldn’t help myself)

        • alyce1213

          I like that.

    • Diego!

Recycling gala anyone? She looks pretty amazing! Gorgeous dress and she looks gorgeous too. But I’d rather see these yellow cans than the depressing and bare Christmas trees on the KIernan Shipka post.

    • lynnlee

Though, if you’re gonna wear a long necklace, you should make sure it isn’t hooked around a boob before you get your picture taken.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

It always reminds me of Thoroughly Modern Millie.

        • shirab

It always reminds me of my cousin’s wedding in 1987, when I wore a form-fitting dress with a long strand of pearls. Just long enough to stay looped under a boob for most of the family group-photo session.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1180174329 Elizabeth Phillips

That was just what I thought!

      • BridgetK

Tell this to my driver’s license photo (seriously, it’s unfortunate).

    • alexandra116

It looks like a set from Breaking Bad

    • flamingoNW

Looks too big for her to me. Do not like.

    • Lizzyisi

The GFY girls featured one of the Royals at this event. It’s a clean-water-charity event; those are clean water jugs, I guess.

      • Leah Elzinga

I suppose that’s what they’re intended to look like, but they say “Diesel” right on them.

    • Mona_Visa

With you on the backdrop wtf. This is what happens when straight guys from Jiffy Lube decorate an event.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

I’m just not nuts about this. I mean, yes, it fits her perfectly, she looks lovely. But it’s nothing more than a simple mermaid style dress, there’s nothing spectacular about it. And the fuel cans in the background – WTF?

      • Valdri8

I find it totally winter bridesmaid

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I love the extra long necklace but I might have gone with a color other than black. Nothing full-on sparkly or overly metallic because that would have veered right down Tacky Avenue, but something a little more visible…..as it is, the necklace is lost on the fabric background.

      • CakesOnAPlane

I think I need to see it not caught on her right boob to be objective. As it is now, it’s setting off my OCD.

    • skipiddydoda

She looks kind of “undone” for this dress. As if she’s just trying it on in her closet. I’d love to see her hair more styled, but I think a bit more jewelry or jewelry that didn’t fade into the dress would have sufficed.

      • 3boysful

I’d like to see her hair back to its original (?) darker shade.

      • another_laura

Agreed. She may have been going for “simple elegance” but she got “unfinished.”

    • TrixieConQueso

Dreamy! Is there a better shape for gals who wanna look sexay at Fancy Events? Methinks not.

    • MilaXX

I don’t get the gas cans as a backdrop. I love her necklace, but the problem with them with you are over an A cup, is you have to adjust them all the time. Straighten your beads Maggie.

    • granite5

Clean water jugs. It’s what the whole charity is about. A little more important than whether it’s a good backdrop.

      • demidaemon

That may be true, but I think that it could be better represented than this. It’s obviously being misconstrued; therefore, there was a problem with the execution.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

The entire point to a red carpet backdrop is to explain the event and who’s hosting it. This backdrop fails on every level. We’re not here to discuss the charity; we’re here to discuss the images.

        • granite5

These jugs are an iconic part of the organization. I immediately recognized it as a Charity:Water event when I saw the photo. Not a failure at all.

          • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

In other words, this backdrop is great – if you know and are familiar with the charity and its logo. If you don’t, it tells you nothing.

            Yep. Fails on every level.

    • annabelle archer

      Gorgeous!!

    • Lesley

i can’t put my finger on it but something about this look, looks incomplete. maybe it’s the hair or maybe it really just is that horrible backdrop not doing her justice.

      • CakesOnAPlane

she could do with some earrings, too

        • Lesley

          maybe that’s what it is

    • Erica_Vuitton

The ring around the boob necklace is ruining this look.

    • quiltrx

That’s an incredible gown…but it somehow looks sloppy on her (unlike the model).

    • Imasewsure

I still think that the dumpsters behind 30 Rock are the worst backdrop ever (but for Letterman and morning show events so I guess that doesn’t count as RC).
And this look is really boring to me. She looks pretty but I thought I was going to like it a lot more on the full screen but I don’t. Love the necklace

      • demidaemon

I actually don’t mind that one, as there wasn’t any effort put into it. It’s just the entrance to the studio. Obviously, someone put effort into this, and it wasn’t the best effort, in many people’s opinions.

    • decormaven

Love the dress, but the jewelry is not at the same level of eleganza. A bit better necklace and this would be WERQ-worthy.

    • Ashleigh

SERIOUSLY!! yellow?? NOTHING looks good with yellow!

    • marlie

I love this. That dress is gorgeous, Maggie’s hair and makeup are pretty, and she has a great smile!

    • bitchybitchybitchy

The backdrop is horrible. BUT, that is a totally gorgeous gown, and it is now my fantasy RC gown.

    • fashion4ever

Looks like hotel curtains to me!

    • Trickytrisha

      Scrumptious!

    • barbarienne

It may be a wacky-tacky backdrop, but at least her dark dress can’t blend into it. It’s nice to be able to actually see the silhouette, esp when the dress depends on it.

    • alyce1213

I love a beautiful jacquard, and navy! Her jet necklace is pretty, but I wish she’d worn a strand of something in a lighter color, to show better.

    • insertclevername_ici

The yellow cans are for charity : water. They bring clean water toremote areas of some of the world’s poorest countries. Before you blast their backdrop, maybe look into what it stands for. Clean can of water logo.
Also – seriously? My first comment about charity : water got moderated? Because I included the link to the charity that is sponsoring the event.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

They still make an ugly backdrop. And all comments with links in them get stuck in moderation.

        • insertclevername_ici

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think it makes for a rather dramatic backdrop. How is this any uglier than every other backdrop that is hanging behind stars every single day? I suppose we should all bow down to the creative genesis that come up with blank white background to set off the endless corporate logos that grace at least five other posts on your home page right now. At least she stands out and the blue of her dress contrasts rather dramatically. Not so in the recent whiteboard post of queen of fucking fantastica, who does not look so fantastica because her dress somehow looks more busy against the white and the background does nothing for her hair. If its possible, I think it is safe to say that most backgrounds do nothing for the stars standing in front of them. But Miss Maggie Grace, she sings in front of that background.

Anyway, I’d rather see a creative and dramatic backdrop any day, especially if it represents something meaningful. I know you could just reply with something a la Stanly Tucci – – – “that’s what this is all about… Inner beauty.” But it would be nice if you didn’t blast the logo of a pretty fantastic organization.

          • demidaemon

Not to beat a dead horse—but I’m going to anyways—don’t you think they could have represented their charity in a more aesthetically pleasing way without undermining their message? Because, I think, this backdrop is going to overshadow both their message and any stars showing up to promote and/or donate to the cause, as it is doing to Miss Grace here.

          • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Alrighty, then. This concludes the portion of our day where we talk a lot about red carpet backdrops.

    • Linda LaPaz

Well the backdrop does match the Taittinger ads!

    • demidaemon

I think TLo needs to do a top ten worst backdrops for each year now, as they seem to be getting crazier and stupider with each event. Also: do not forget the trip of the HBO backdrop from earlier this year.

    • Pennymac

That smile tells me she feels as beautiful as she looks. LOVE.
