Lupita Nyong’o in Elie Saab at the “12 Years A Slave” Paris Premiere

Posted on December 12, 2013

YAY! A full-on “It’s DECEMBER” dress! Trust Miss Lupita to get it right.

Lupita Nyong’o attends the “12 Years A Slave” Paris premiere at Cinema UGC Normandie in Paris, France in an Elie Saab dress.

Gorgeous. Don’t love the matchy shoes, though. We think we’re coming around to the idea of the earrings, but it took some doing. The main story is the dress and how slammin’ she looks wearing it. And once again, we salute her makeup artist, who clearly knows when to tone down the warpaint.

    • Ragnarockette

Stunning. Surprise surprise. Shoe is a little blah, but who the heck is looking at the shoes when this woman walks into a room?

      • Evan

I know it’s a cliche, but she really could wear a paper bag and still look beautiful. That smile alone… Red looks fabulous on her though.

      • Let it out

Other women (and probably gay men) look at the shoes. But anyone who nitpicks this look is clearly dead inside.

    • Sobaika

I want it to be a smidge shorter. And I can’t get on board with the earrings when the shoes are so matchy. BUT…

      She looks simply marvelous.

      • http://heartprintandstyle.com/ Vivi N

Agree with it being a tad bit shorter. Yeah, not here for the earrings considering it’s a shade of purple that doesn’t complement the shade of red of the dress and shoes.

    • PastryGoddess

How are people even able to talk when she is around. Gurl looks slammin’

    • marlie

I’m not feeling the earrings, but the shoes don’t bother me so much. But the color of the dress is spectacular, and the fit on Lupita is perfect. I can see why they went with the toned-down makeup, but I think a stronger lip color could have still worked.

    • Diego!

STUNNING & FIERCE. I love her! She looks amazing!

    • Donyelle

If Yves Saint Laurent were alive, she’d be his muse

    • MaggieMae

I didn’t even notice how much I don’t like the earrings! Girl crush!

    • ballerinawithagun

One of my favorite color combos (my husband thinks I’m crazy!) is Red, Fuchsia and Purple. Perhaps some purple shoes. But I like a matching red shoe at Christmas time. I’ll probably be doing that exact thing Saturday night!
      She is gorgeous!

      • Qitkat

I actually like your color combo too. And deep orange works with that group too. So I ought to have liked the earrings, but I didn’t. Bring on the purple shoes!

    • gayle

each time she steps on the red carpet I am struck by how gorgeous she is

    • Clueless_Jock

      She is stunning.

    • Nikko Viquiera

      Good God…I…I…WOW.

    • gabbilevy

Major fashion crush, right here. She’s incredible.

    • TAGinMO

Such are the gifts of Ms. Nyong’o that even this bog-standard Christmas party dress looks like a bangin’ piece of fashion on her.

    • tereliz

FAB dress. Maybe just a touch too long, although the proportions would be improved if the skirt was just a little tighter instead, I think. I’d be on board with the earrings if the shoes were a third color instead of the same red, but I do love them with the dress. Maybe diamond studs instead?

    • Qitkat

The earrings made me flinch, but DAMN! this woman can wear anything.

    • filmcricket

I’m on board with the earrings, would have liked to see a gold shoe, maybe?

    • algaechick

Speaking of toning…look at those arms! Should they ever meet, she and the FLOTUS must arm wrestle. While wearing couture.

    • Imasewsure

Hate the shoes, don’t love the earrings but the dress (and the woman) is EVERYTHING!

    • wisenhar

This lady is so beautiful, chic, and stylish! Has she graduated to “The” status yet? (As in, The Swinton, The Blanchett, The Bing Bing, etc.) I would vote yes.
I would love to see her in a fashion editorial. I’m surprised nobody has done that yet.
P.S. Those are some seriously enviable arms.

    • annabelle archer

Maybe a multicolored shoe, that included the earring color? I dunno. She looks ready for any office holiday dinner, that’s for sure.

    • Anna_Cecilia

Miss Nyong’o told y’all that she is a PROFESSIONAL.

Girl came to WERQ. The matchy shoes should bother me but her beauty is so dazzling that they don’t.

    • kimmeister

I don’t mind the shoes, I think they work better than many of the shoes she has worn recently. The dress is stellar on her, I’m just wishing for a bracelet or two, and I never like red paired with fuchsia so I’m not on board with the earrings.

    • LJCdoc

I think she might be one of those people who is incapable of looking bad. Her taste is just that good.

      • Pennymac

Ooh. I hope you didn’t just jinx her by saying that. Dreading the day when she brings cray to the RC!

    • Lisa M. (ReVoir) Kramp

Endlessly talented, gorgeous and can wear couture like a model. I should hate her but I just can’t. The girl is a show-stopper.

    • TLJezebel

She looks great in any color that she wears.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Ms. Nyong’o is glowing-fabulous dress and color for her!

    • Therese Bohn

<3 :-D I would love to have this dress (just 30lbs to go!)

    • frannyprof

Man, do I love this lady. She looks amazing.

    • Jessica Freeman

I am quite over the sheer cut out trend, but this works relatively well on Lupita. Not loving the shoes or earrings.

    • Aidan B

Oh YAY! Now I am fully in the holiday spirit!

    • Erica_Vuitton

I wish there was a bracelet but other than that I am LOVING this look! Love the natural lip instead of slapping on a red like most makeup artists do when faced with a Holiday Look.

    • Pennymac

Beautiful! Her skin is so luminous!

    • Glam Dixie

The shoes matching a lacy dress takes me into full on 80′s bridesmaid territory and I can’t quite see the reasoning behind choosing those earrings, but I do love that dress and that dress alone on her. Nothing else is doing it for me.

    • sojourneryouth

Perfect color red on her. She makes this “fashion” thing look totally effortless.

    • carnush

Lovely. The earrings especially are a great touch.

    • Constant Reader

She’s so gorgeous and gets so much right that I always forgive any minor transgressions.

    • Jean Genetic

I love the pink earrings with the red dress. It’s a subtle distinction that doesn’t overwhelm, a soupcon of rebellion against the red.

    • Introspective

girl that’s so your head. and your dress.

    • ojosazules

      She has fashion super powers.

    • SissyLou

      BEAUTIFUL!

    • SewingSiren

She is lovely and can work a traditional holiday classic like nobody’s business.

    • bellafigura1

      Aaaaah, delicious.

    • decormaven

Bella! That is a great look; I’m even on board with the earrings and shoe choice- for her, alone.

    • http://www.what-the-frock.com Dana WhatTheFrock

I can’t WAIT to see what she comes up with this awards season.

    • starrika

She has the most amazing skin. Utterly flawless. I am sitting here in deep envy.

    • jilly_d

The skin! The SHOULDERS!! THE SMILE!!!! I hate this woman.*

*it is impossible to hate this woman.

    • Sarah

I like the earrings, a lot! I dig that they don’t match.

    • YoungSally

The model photo is dying for a “secret lives of fashion” story — Something along the lines of:

Short Dress: Excuse me, miss. I am trying to get back to Kansas.
      Long Dress: (Struts by)
      Short Dress: Oh Toto! B*&&h!

    • MilaXX

I’m okay with the shoe, but dislike the earring.

    • Trickytrisha

Just wow. I keep picturing the dress in the color of the earrings, though.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Beautiful makeup. Beautiful dress. I’m going with that.

    • NYCGlamourpuss

It’s way too matchy-matchy, but damn if she’s not gorgeous enough to pull it off!

    • ashtangajunkie

Her bod is insane. I might hang a photo of her arms on the wall above my weight rack. Love the dress too.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

This woman just glows every time I see her. Those arms.

    • crash1212

Not sure why this isn’t a WERQ. It is for me. Slammin’.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      Perfectly lovely.

    • IraKi

No the earrings still hurt my eyes. Not in a “they are so ugly way” because they are cute indeed. They are annoying me owing to the fact that they are purple and I HATE a red and purple combo. At least this red and this purple combo!

    • LeelaST

She and the dress are fab! Hate the shoes & earrings.

    • pookiesmom

LUPITA WERQ FOREVER AND EVER AMEN.

    • Jacob Bowen

She could have done the white shoes with this one, it’s holiday, why not? BUT, I wouldn’t mind the shoes with a different earring because that pink is kinda killing me.

    • MannahattaMamma

she wins the red carpet from now until maybe ever

    • Gatto Nero

The dress is stunning on her — better than on the model.
And I want her arms. (Deltoid lust.)

    • murt

      Yes I hate the shoes.
