GTNYD: Laura Prepon in Issa at the 2013 amfAR Inspiration Gala Los Angeles

Posted on December 16, 2013

GURL.

Laura Prepon attends the 2013 amfAR Inspiration Gala at Milk Studios in Hollywood, California in an Issa dress paired with a Fabiola Pedrazinni clutch and Erickson Beamon Rocks jewelry.

That is NOT your dress. That is the dress of a 70-year-old socialite or retired opera singer. Possibly an Oscar Lifetime Achievement Award winner.

We’re all for coverage and comfort, even on the red carpet, if that’s your thang, but there are ways to do it that are chic, stylish and even flattering. This is none of those things. It’s a giant sack of a dress. A Snuggie dress.

Sweetie, box this dress up and send it off to Dame Judi Dench, who’ll be happy to receive it.

From the neck up is a knockout though. I do miss her red hair.

      • Carolyne

Yes! There are three redheads in my house (including me) and I say that after you turn 25 you should finally realize how great your natural hair color is and stop dying it!!!!

        • Jessica Freeman

I don’t know why a red head would choose to dye it…I dye mine red and probably will for life.

          • Carolyne

My redheaded daughters dyed their hair every color under the sun, including green, until they were in their early twenties. When they were little they were subjected to a lot of teasing about their hair color, but the older they got, the more disappointment they caused among their friends for dying their hair. They abruptly stopped and now FINALLY love the color of their hair.

          • Erica

Maybe it’s for Orange is the New Black and therefore not her choice? Otherwise, I got nothing (other than, my husband oddly LOVES her with black hair and went so far as to state that he thought nothing much about her when her hair was red. This comment on his part is ridiculous, of course, especially since he really likes it when I veer towards red, myself.)

            • Jessica Freeman

Well they say she isn’t back for Season 2, so she must just like it.

            • knockknockknockpenny

I think she is in a few eps, just not the whole season.

            • Katesymae

Guessing that’s why her brows are so thin and witchy, too. Huzzah! The return of Alex.

        • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

She is a natural brunette, the producers of That 70s Show asked her to dye her hair red for the part of Donna.

      • Kent Roby

Her hair looks really fried to me; I just want to attack her with a bottle of conditioner.

    • Clueless_Jock

Even Judi Dench wouldn’t wear this.

      • formerlyAnon

Yet. Maybe in 14 or 15 years?

      • ConnieBV

This is a Cate Blanchette dress.

        • marlie

She (Cate) wore something like this not too long ago.

    • Adriana

That is not your hair, either.

      • shirab

Also not your eyebrows. Is there any actual eyebrow hair in them? They look totally drawn on.

    • annabelle archer

Is she auditioning to play Liz Taylor’s mother????

      • Sadie-Ann

Liz Taylor’s celebrity snuggie? Feel like a star while you veg on the couch to the classics?

        • Diego!

I think she reminiscence Ava Gardner better than Liz.

      • Danielle

She’s reportedly dating Tom Cruise. He must have picked this for her.

        • annabelle archer

Why? To somehow prove his is not a gay man? As in, no gay man with style or taste would have selected this? Because it reads more the other way. As in, no straight man who ever wants to see this woman naked, would have selected this.

I’d tell her to run like Hell, but disappointingly, she’s already a tried and true member of his little cult, so they have that going for them.

          • demidaemon

Truly, I am so saddened by this news. Saddened. Such a funny woman, and now.. THIS. You may take “THIS” as meaning anything involved in your news or the photos TLo posted.

          • Danielle

I was going more with the “wanting her to cover up and seem demure, kinda like Kanye did to Kim” route but sure, your assumption works too! Glad to see he lent her his Flowbee though.

        • kimmeister

Really! I don’t know her height but she has always seemed really tall to me. Not that that has stopped him in the past.

    • http://urban-gypsy.com/ Tess Danesi

She is so gorgeous, why does she do this to herself? Surely it’s a cry for help. Super hero stylists swoop in, the time is NOW.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

(pardon me while I don my cape)
(exiting to stylist cave through secret entrance)

        • formerlyAnon

          OMG. Movie rights.

        • decormaven

A nation turns its lonely eyes to you…

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

            Jus’ doin’ my job, ma’am.

            • decormaven

Looks like you’ll be busy for a while, based on today’s candidates.

        • kimmeister

Of course superhero stylists don’t “put on” capes. They don them, with flourish!

    • Carleenml

I think Dame Judi deserves better than a snuggie, too. Send this to Mrs. Roper.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

It is however a gloriously right color for her. What makes me saddest of all is just how much of too big all over this is. That ham has to be a good 6 inches too long. I want to cry for her.

      • Heather

I know, right? And she’s like 5’10”. WHO WAS THIS MADE FOR?

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

A 6 foot tall model in 5 inch heels.

          *sigh*

      • conniemd

I want it for a lounging robe while I curl up on my couch for a marathon of Game of Thrones (which I never started watching, so need a marathon) eating bon bons and drinking copious amounts of flavored martinis or champagne.

        • Spreecord

I want to join you in this venture.

      • Targettaste

Tee hee. Your typo of “ham” instead of “hem” made me giggle. She could in fact have a ham (or two) hidden in there.

    • 8daysaweek

Is this Stage One to becoming the next Mrs. Tom Cruise?

      • Barbara Thomas

She’s older than 25, so is no longer eligible for the Miss Xenu pageant.

        • Lori

The last 2 holders of the Mrs Cruise title have bailed at age 33 so rumor has it he’s thinking he should start with someone who’s already that age.

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I think all three of them bailed at 33!

            • Lori

              Yeah, I think you’re right.

            • makeityourself

Gosh, I had forgotten about Mimi Rogers. Good catch.

    • Boobs Radley

That’s Bea Arthur’s dress. (RIP Dorothy Zborknak)

    • MW

The colour is gorgeous but that is it. Also I wish she’d stick with blond hair, dark makes her look too severe.

    • PatchworkJackie

I think this would look gorgeous on Meryl Streep, who so often defaults to black for the red carpet.

    • Tatiana Luján

That is also not a flattering haircolor for her.

      • Katesymae

That’s her character’s hair color for Orange is the New Black. Guessing they’ve started filming season 2.

    • Jaime

It’s either a dress for a socialite – or an amazon who’s at least 6’2 with much broader shoulders and a longer neck.

I really don’t like the dark hair on her; she’s the wrong shade of fair to pull that off.

    • Diego!

She looks like an alcoholized version of Ava Gardner with such a dark hair… well… She aged 50 years in this dress!

    • epenthesis

      Oh, Mistuh Sheffield… *cackle*

    • NCMama

I was ready to forgive anything – anything! – because of what she brings to Orange is the New Black. Oh, Alex, Alex, Alex. But… no. I just can’t overlook this. She is so, so gorgeous, why is she hiding that? Even the tan prison suit looks better than this.

    • Rhonda Shore

I’d like to see her with a more natural eyebrow.

    • teensmom99

Maybe this was Joan Fontaine’s dress-recently-and it’s an homage.

    • French_Swede

Her hair color is too harsh … there is no shine, even … and her eyebrows are too *brown* to match the hair. OTOH, her lipstick color is pretty.

      • Constant Reader

My hair is naturally black and I don’t dye it black to cover gray, I dye it dark brown. Some women can pull it off –especially if they have dark skin — but I can’t and neither can Laura.

        • French_Swede

I look like Elizabeth McGovern did in “Ordinary People” … dark hair, white skin and blue eyes. I’ve been covering the gray for a few years now, and for me I have to use dark ash brown. I’ve messed up before and ended up with muddy-looking color, which I think happened to Laura Prepon. Ah well.

    • Anna_Cecilia

It’s a beautiful colour for her.

I can’t even bring myself to say that it would be a perfect dress for such and such “mature TV/film” star or even maternity dress because surely those women deserve better.

At this point, is being the next Bride of Tom Cruise really such a worthwhile pursuit that it’s worth appearing in public looking like this?

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

If someone’s going to lend you a nice ring, I think you owe them a better manicure than slapping on a bit of stop-n-grow.

      • teensmom99

It actually looks kind of like what I would expect the girls to do for each other in Orange is the New Black.

    • crash1212

It’s not her hair or makeup either. However, those ARE her earrings.

      • kimmeister

The eyeliner is particularly bad on her for the same reasons it doesn’t work on SJP.

    • SewingSiren

There is something about this that I like. It’s too long at the front. It’s really a wonder that she didn’t trip. Also more of an at home entertaining kind of gown, but still different and elegant.

    • rissa42210

I DIDN’T EVEN RECOGNIZE HER, and, honey, that’s not a good look on someone whose success depends on the ability to be recognizable.

    • LadyCelia

I had that dress in 1971. In paisley.

    • AutumnInNY

Wrong on all counts. I can’t get past the hair. Go back to the red/blonde please, she’s such a beautiful young girl. This color and dress age her decades.

    • TheRealAndra

Dame Judy wouldn’t be caught dead in that tater sack!

    • DailyDose

grab an olive branch, you’d be the Goddess of peace.

    • Chaiaiai

GURL, that’s not your FACE. Jesus.

    • Janet B

Wow. Went to google since I couldn’t place her.
I’m sad for her hair, I hope it’s for a role.
Gorgeous color. There may be someone, under the age of 60, who could wear that dress successfully, but it’s not Laura.

    • http://frockpaperscissors.blogspot.com/ kvlm

Yikes yikes yikes yikes yikes yikes. Elizabeth Taylor in the 60’s. It worked for her, it does not work for Laura.

    • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

It’s funny how much I love her dark hair when it’s (un)styled on OITNB, but in this arrangement, it’s not so pretty. And that dress should be sent back to Samantha Stephen’s mother, Endorra (if you’re old like me, you’ll get the reference.)

    • Numenah

      Channeling Loretta Young-ish

    • decormaven

Hope there are some fabulous fashions to follow this day, because it’s a stormy Monday so far.

      • annabelle archer

        Schmatta Monday.
        Whaw whaw whawwwwww

    • myristica_fragrans

and it’s not her face either! what happened?

    • MilaXX

I’m thinking she was aiming for a sexy Liz Taylor-esque look and landed on frumpy. Nice color on her though.

    • Gatto Nero

A Snuggie dress in a color that reads as cheap somehow.
      Nice makeup, though.

    • Mona_Visa

If it were shorter maybe… What if we hemmed it about 12 inches, gave her some amazing shoes, and went for a goddess-y vibe with the hair?

    • VioletFem

It’s a gorgeous color, but it is way to much fabric Laura. If this was more tailored, this dress could have looked very elegant.

    • Constant Reader

DAMN she is going to age beautifully… but I feel like if that’s my first reaction to this outfit on a woman her age, it’s a FAIL.

    • MannahattaMamma

do NOT insult Judi Dench that way. She’d be makin’ that dress all sassy, rather than snuggli

    • Adrianna Grężak

That’s something a Real Housewife (especially of Atlanta, I’m thinking NeNe Leeks) would wear to a reunion

    • trisker

Not even Judy Dench — I’d say more Kate Smith — if anybody here remembers her!

      • ThaliaMenninger

Rosemary Clooney, Kate Smith or Peggy Lee?.

    • LJCdoc

I don’t even think Dame Judy would wear that dress. Possibly Dame Edna.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

      Homage to Bea Aruthur.

    • jonnyf8

Maybe she’s going to some Scientology function immediately afterwards and this doubles as some sort of ceremonial robe.

    • Cheryl

I hope that hair colour is for a role. I love dark hair, but it’s way too solid and fried looking.

    • Lily-Rygh

Girl has the eyebrow equivalent of John Waters’ mustache.

    • boweryboy

It looks like she was inspired by that lavender dress Cate Blanchett wore last week. This is very similar in style, and this is where the amateurs are separated by the professionals. Cate knew her dress called for polished hair, face, and a grandiose piece of statement jewelry. Laura, on the other hand, looks out of her league. She could have (barely) pulled this off if she had a sleek and sophisticated hairdo; a stronger face; a mani; and a bold necklace. Nice try.

      • Gatto Nero

But Cate’s dress — beautiful lines, proportion, silhouette and fit — was miles better than this schmatta.

    • JauntyJohn

      Anne Miller emailed.
      She’s asked you to stop.

    • CarrieBaby

I think her hair/eyebrows are like that because she’s probably shooting OITNB. Hopefully she goes back to the red hair after she’s finished. This color does nothing for her.

    • jw_ny

Going for ‘glamor’…instead got ‘old’. Looks like she’s having some kind of identity crisis.

    • Tracy_Flick

She’s gorgeous, but the eye makeup does nothing for her. I sort of like the drama of a Giant Blue Dress, but it’s gone a little too far. To the eye, it just comes off as a huge blue rectangle.

    • http://heartprintandstyle.com/ Vivi N

I miss her red hair. The hell is up with those way-too-thin eyebrows?

      • EdithP

They are thisclose to chola eyebrows.

    • marlie

I actually don’t think this is AS aging as TLo think, BUT if she’s going to go the caftan route, it would seem more appropriate to do it during the summer. I think her hair is severe and aging as well.

    • Imasewsure

This is her matronly aunt, right? Wow epic (old old glamor …and I mean OLD) fail

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

      Channelling Liz Taylor

    • Trickytrisha

Auditioning for the role of Aimee Semple McPherson? Or some other new agey faux prophet?

    • Dibs

The only word that comes to mind is “Endora”.

    • TwiddlyStun

The hair looks like a witch wig my mom bought for me at Woolworth’s in the very early 1970’s. I wore it with plastic vampire teeth as well.

    • fashion4ever

“That is NOT your dress. That is the dress of a 70-year-old socialite or retired opera singer. Possibly an Oscar Lifetime Achievement Award winner.” hahahahahahaha YAAAAS

    • kat89

W.T.F. happened to her? What happened to her hair!!!!! What happened to her face! OMG what are Cruise & Co. doing to her?

    • http://angrynerdgirl.net/ Jessi03

Cue the “Laura Prepon is pregnant!” rumors.

    • mickiemonkey

This screams PMS. She needs Advil, a scotch on the rocks, and lounge time on the couch with a pile of magazines.

    • IraKi

Hate the dress, love the colour! and I wouldo SO JUMP THE FENCE for Laura Prepon and/or Alex Vause.

    • Truthiness2U

It’s Endora from Bewitched back from the dead/` What witchery is this?!

Oh wait, it’s just Laura Prepon remaining horrible at styling herself.

And she’s one of those people that should just go stick with red, even if it isn’t their natural colour. See also: Gillian Anderson; Emma Roberts and Scarlett Johannsen.

    • Melanie

ok i’m gonna be the lone voice of dissent here: i like this, a lot actually. it seems very old hollywood, with the elizabeth taylor dress & marlene dietrich eyebrows. i even like her with dark hair – she has a very kitten-ish face to me & the hair somehow enhances that. however i do have a massive crush on her (if that’s not obvious) so i may be a bit biased :P

    • majorbedhead

Wow, that’s hideous. I am particularly opposed to that shade of blue, since it was the color of my school uniform in England – polyester dress with a baby blue checked blouse and *shudder* polyester blue socks.

    • jif

Girl, that’s also not your hair colour or your make-up. You may keep the accessories though.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I actually have more of an issue with her eye makeup than her dress. Did she hire SJP’s makeup artist? Because her eyes are disappearing behind the same black eyeliner.
