Kristen Wiig in Martin Grant at “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” Germany Premiere

Posted on December 13, 2013

Okay, help us out here. We’re trying to figure this one out. It seems to us that someone finally convinced Kristen that she’s allowed to wear dresses with a little shape, pattern and personality to them. That’s great. But some sort of deal must have been struck to get her to agree to it.

Kristen Wigg attends the German premiere of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” at Zoo Palast in Berlin, Germany wearing a skirt and bustier by Martin Grant accessorized with Manolo Blahnik pumps and jewelry by Halleh, Vita Fade, and Jennifer Fisher.

Because from where we’re sitting, it seems pretty obvious she said “Fine. I’ll wear the cute dress, but I want my hair and face to look REALLY DRAB in order to balance it out.”

She has odd ideas about style, that one.

Not to mention she’s standing like a toy soldier.

      • EveEve

She looks like she’s trying to use her upper arms to keep the bodice from falling down. But this look is a wonderful improvement style-wise for her. Killer pumps, nice jewelry, jazzy dress. I don’t see her doing anything dramastic with her hair, but it wouldn’t kill her to trim the ends…like maybe six inches.

    • Ashleigh

wish the skirt hit where it hits the model…but otherwise, LOVE IT!

    • kimmeister

      Girl, that’s not your torso.

      • Jacob Bowen

        BAHAHAHA! AGREED!

      • conniemd

The waist on Jena Malone’s dress was 1-2 inches too high, this one is two inches too low.

      SHOES.

    • jw_ny

Hair and makeup appointment must have cancelled on her at the last minute.

Dress…too much skirt for her, but it almost works. Love the b&w geometric top. The 2 stiff/straight arm pose…don’t do that! ;)

    • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

the dress may be a personal best for her…

    • nowlo

Great dress, though it needs to be taken up a few inches to be more flattering on a non-7-foot-tall person.

I don’t know why she looks so uncomfortable. The hair and posture make it seem like she really hates what she’s wearing.

    • MilaXX

This is pretty good for her. I wouldn’t even mind the flat hair if the lip was warmed up just a bit. Also can someone teach her how to pose? She looks like the 5 year old whose mommy just told her to stand up straight & stand still.

      • Pennymac

        Perfect pose description!

      • ConnieBV

She looks painfully insecure and her facial expressions mirror that. She is gorgeous and has a killer bod! I would show off those gams. She needs to get the person who styled her in Bridesmaids. She looked great there.

    • YoungSally

It’s very odd — I think the model looks better bc she has a more defined waist than Wiig…..but, is it actually a two-piece that Wiig is wearing? Less bueno. Would prefer to see Wiig in a full on patterned sheath.

    • msdamselfly

I think her hair and makeup are the only things that look good

    • Jacob Bowen

GIRRRRLLLL you got a gay to get you a semi-cute dress, so can you get one to show you how to pose and to do your hair and makeup???

    • Snarkdog

It looks like the dress was Photoshopped on. I swear she showed up wearing yoga pants and a college jersey and her people demanded this cute dress ‘shopped’ on to try to save face.

    • marlie

The dress is great! I’m not sure about the proportions on her, but it’s a huge improvement from her usual. Also, her hair doesn’t bother me, because at least she brushed it. It usually looks like a squirrel has been nesting in it.

    • Lorelei_D

      LOVE!

    • Funkykatt

She is like me, just needs some help.

    • guest2visits

It’s a beautiful dress (and shoes); but it seems to be wearing her, not the other way around.
I imagine she would be stunning in more event worthy ‘do & makeup.

    • formerlyAnon

NECKLACE. Where is the necklace? The absence of a necklace makes no sense at all.

      • Jackie4g

Yes, if ever there were a perfect backdrop for a necklace, this is it. I am old, and old fashioned enough to want pearls, but if there was a piece with an interesting configuration of hammered metal shapes, I’d be OK with that as well.

    • Cameron Turner

      This is beautiful!

    • lifeisastory

      her torso looks very boxy.

    • quiltrx

Love the outfit but it is certainly not HER outfit.
And the very fact that this movie exists is making me feel VERY stabby. No remake was needed, and sure to be an abomination with Ben Stiller.

    • alyce1213

Chic, striking dress, I think it’s a great choice for her but that torso is too long, it’s just weird. Maybe she just needed to hike it all up an inch — it seems to hit the model a little bit higher on her chest and the waist is better placed. I like the gold shoes but I don’t like glittery feet.

    • MannahattaMamma

      god i love those shoes

    • Jumpingjacks

poor girl probably doesn’t know a charming pose even when it hits her in the head

      • XPT

Uhm she’s a talented actress and she did very sexy roles on SNL… so, no.

        • Jumpingjacks

Not commenting on her acting skills. No matter how talented she is, doesn’t mean she can’t still freeze a bit in front of the camera’s.

    • Alexis Peñafuerte Wenceslao

      but hey, metallic shoes!

    • brown-eyed girl

Love her, love the ensemble, wish she were standing less like she’s about to break into an SNL schtick.

    • SewingSiren

Very pretty. I wish she would have worn her hair in a bun though.

    • favorthebold

As someone who’s had to train myself to let myself wear cuter clothes and more jewelry – yeah, I don’t think it’s an exaggeration that your supposition is probably nearly exactly what she said to her hair and makeup people. “Look at how loud and big this dress is! You can’t give me big hair too, I”ll look like a clown! No, no, just neutral make-up! Get that necklace away from me, no jewelry!”

    • Cheryl Klein

Given that Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Melissa McCarthy likewise have had difficulty with red carpet looks, I’m guessing that most female comics are so used to getting attention for their brains and their wits (which: YAY), they feel a lot of discomfort with the idea that their makeup and clothes are just as important once they become stars. So yeah, there might be something passive-aggressive in this, and I would sympathize with that … even though it’s ultimately self-defeating, because you have to play the game (as well as do quality work) to stay a star, and the game is looking good.

    • elzatelzabelz

Not perfect, but definite progress for her!

    • Big Bear

I suspect she’d rather be acting/writing and can’t be bothered with the dress up stuff. Which makes me love her even more.

    • bertkeeter

If a skirt could ever have benefitted from pockets to help WERG it, this is the skirt. Like the look but she’s not making it happen!

    • Aurumgirl

It’s like the dress is too large to actually sit where it should. She should get her thumbs in there and hike that baby up a couple of inches, so that the top of the skirt is actually at her waist and not her hips.

    • rissa42210

      i HATE everything about it.

    • crash1212

This is a really cute look for her, killed off by her head. A simple pony and a stronger lip (not that horrid orange from the Prada look) would’ve made this sing. She was SO close.

    • http://frockpaperscissors.blogspot.com/ kvlm

She’s adorable. She needs some training. This dress was obviously out of her traditional comfort zone and you can tell. It’s super cute, but yes shorter would have been better like on the model and black shoes. This habit of a non-matching attention grabbing shoe is not always necessary.

    • ThaliaMenninger

That dress is adorable, though. Now if only someone could deal with her head.

    • Imasewsure

Yes no for this – great dress for someone else but I like the hair and makeup on her

    • Sunraya

Plus, this strikes me as a Girl, That is Not your Dress moment. I don’t see her in those ballgown type skirts. Too feminine for her looks. She should stick to more straight lined with color and interesting angles. Not this.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Boy howdy does she ever. Great dress for a skinny gal like Kristen. But the hair and make-up…wtf?

    • Shawn EH

She wants the dress to be a bit of costume: they’re all characters, she’s doing Judy, Kate, Audrey, Joan … the drab hair says it’s all with a wink.
