Katie Holmes in Isabel Marant at the Z100 Jingle Ball 2013

Posted on December 17, 2013

Well, if you simply must wear a sweatshirt on the red carpet, we suppose this would be the best way to do it:

Katie Holmes attends the Z100’s Jingle Ball 2013 held at Madison Square Garden in New York City in Isabel Marant.

Isabel Marant Shiloh Cotton Sweatshirt

It helps that it’s a really expensive sweatshirt, we suppose. Honestly, she looks pretty cute here. If it weren’t for the ridiculously short skirt, we’d say she’s wearing the perfect NYC holiday party outfit.

    • Diego!

Isn’t she cold? Maybe she is so horny she is desperetaly looking for someone. It’s about time dear, I get it. You have amazing legs by the way! ;)

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

If she is horny, the breeze up her nethers will sort that out.

        • Diego!

hahaha I’ve learned a new word! Thanks for that! Now I understand what you mean by nethers LOL. You know, sometimes, when a girl or boy is so desparately, there isn’t any wind to chill them out :P

    • Sarah

Ohh, man. I dig that sweatshirt in grey. I now feel weird that I have anything in the world in common with Katie Holmes.

    • TheRealAndra

I would have liked a more substatial shoe but that shirt is cool!

    • alyce1213

The top’s pretty cute and so is the skirt, just not together.
I can’t get on board with bare legs in a mini the week before Christmas. It just looks wrong and brrrrrr.

    • tereliz

Huh. Does the skirt have a tighter underskirt for *modesty*? Shoes are kind of fussy, an odd choice to pair with such an edgy top and swingy skirt. Her face looks great, though.

      • decormaven

Yes, those shoes are just a little too precious for the rest of the ensemble, which has more of an attitude.

    • Danielle

Expensive and Sweatshirt are two words that shouldn’t be combined.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I find the upscale, high end sweatshirt to be ridiculous. I don’t care how much stuff you throw on it, or whose logo is machine embroidered, whatev, it.is.a.sweatshirt.Period.endo of discussion.

        • ballerinawithagun

Agree with you and Danielle. Are you old enough to remember Norma Kamali? I just don’t understand why Isabel Marant is so poplar, everything is DIY.

        • bellafigura1

Nope, not the end of the discussion! Expensive sweatshirts are the bomb. They fit, they launder beautifully, they last forever and you can pair them with dressier pieces and feel comfy but luxe. I’m not a fan of the embellishing, but I love a luxury sweatshirt or fleece or drawstring pants, yum.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

Still not sold on them, but the discussion continues!

    • Carleenml

      Cheerleader at the reupholstery factory.

    • Ragnarockette

The skirt looks like something from a dance recital but I love the sweater.

    • Nancer

She looks adorable – like she’s regained her lost youth!

      • Spicytomato1

Lol, agreed. I clicked on the post because of her happy, pretty face. Nice to see.

    • DTLAFamilies

She looks great from the hips up. Skinny black pants or a longer pencil skirt with boots would’ve been perfect.

    • Tracy_Flick

That sharp click you heard was the sound of a thousand Pinterest pins. It’s got that mix of fashion-y and tacky that’s catnip to pinners.

      • Carleenml

        yes! lol

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Plus the eminent DIY-ability of this look.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

          I foresee a run at Michael’s and A.C. Moore on industrial studs…..

      • Jennifer L.

Ha, I like the description as though they were a different species – “You can see over there in the undergrowth a juvenile pinner, combing through piles of last year’s trends to shred into scrap fabric. This age group tends to decorate themselves haphazardly with shiny neons, perhaps in hopes of marking territorial boundaries”

        • Danielle

They also pin from Tumblr images which doesn’t create a link back to the original store and drives the advanced pinners batshit crazy.

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

Plus, FUCK anyone who just pins a .jpeg.

          • MilaXX

THIS! I refused to repin anything that doesn’t link back. I use pinterest as my scrap book and actually take it shopping with me. Especially for home type things. It’s been handy to be able to pull up the picture and skew number on many occasions.

            • Danielle

              Thank GOD for TheHunt.

      • Heather

Hilarious! There’s someone with my same name with a Pinterest page with a bunch of skeezy, beefcake guy pics. I’m always terrified that someone will Google me, find it, and think it’s mine!

    • Kent Roby

It’s too Project Runway “Cut up and bedazzle this ugly grey sweatshirt” for me. No.

    • NBG

I would rip this but I am so delighted with “I don’t give shit Katie” that I’m giving her one long pass. She looks like she is having fun.

      • sagecreek

        Yep, same here!

    • imspinningaround

It’s making my eye twitch that the embellishments are stitched down with cream thread. They should be sewn on with dark gray.

    • crash1212

Love this. Exceedingly cute outfit and her head looks great as well. If it we me, I would’ve deployed black tights and some killer boots…but then, that’s what I do. Carry on.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

This hair length looks good on her, and I love that pricey sweatshirt. The skirt brings it into cheerleader territory though.

    • kimmeister

Boy is that awkward-looking from the side. Here’s another one who could use a lesson in proportion. Great lip color on her though.

    • DailyDose

although Age doesnt matter in these days, this set of outfits is better for a teenager with a fresh face.

    • nannypoo

The sweatshirt would be cute with some skinny jeans and boots.

    • Anna_Cecilia

Sweatshirt is cute. Bottom looks like a running skort.

    • ashtangajunkie

I’d call this good if she weren’t wearing a skirt from the ‘Bring It On’ collection from Target.

    • greymain

tights, tights would be good here……

    • Nexli B

I don’t hate it as much as I should hate “upscale sweatshirt”. However I do wish the bottom half was wintery-er.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

She looks cute and happy but I can’t sign off on those bare legs. Winter on top, summer on the bottom just doesn’t work.

    • teensmom99

Pretty cute is exactly what came to mind.

    • lalahartma

      Sassy.

    • Trickytrisha

Expensive craft project is still a craft project. Sure the sweatshirt is cute, but it looks like a DIY item a 15 year old would have in her closet. I’m all ditto about the bare legs.

    • Imasewsure

She’s too old for that skirt but I like it anyway. Not loving the shoe choice but it’s ok

    • SugarSnap108

The sweatshirt is OK, though ‘oatmeal’ is not the first color I think of for a holiday party. What bugs me is that her hair looks like she literally just yanked said sweatshirt over her head.

    • Laura Renee

I think it’s cute, but the idea of cutouts in a sweatshirt just seems so – defeating the purpose… Which I guess is why it’s luxury.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

I keep coming back to this picture – that lipstick is gorgeous.

      • MilaXX

Is she still the face of Bobbi Brown cosmetics? I always thought that was a good match.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ foodycatAlicia

No idea – but I agree it’s a good fit.

    • boweryboy

No to the sweatshirt, the hell? And no to the short skirt. Katie is just slightly over the hump of being able to pull off a skirt that short. Leave that to the 20 somethings.

    • MilaXX

The skirt is too juvenile looking. She looks like the school’s most popular cheerleader.

    • sagecreek

So cute. She gets a pass from me for a time equivalent to her captivity :)

      • Miranda

        LOLOL

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

She just looks relieved that she can wear whatever she wants now. I wouldn’t care if she were in Walmart Capri’s and a Parka. Honestly.

    • hmb

      Meh.

    • elemspbee

This is so awful. Nothing cute about it. It looks juvenile and so do her poses.

    • quiltrx

She looks like a kid. And for the second time this week, I’ve had to pull out my “You are someone’s MOTHER” comment for the way-too-short juvenile skirt.

    • marlie

It’s cute, but I still wouldn’t have worn a sweatshirt. Just because it’s expensive (and embellished) doesn’t mean that it’s still not too casual. The skirt is tennis-skirt short, but I don’t have a problem with the shoes, and her hair and makeup are pretty.

    • formerlyAnon

It’s cute but riding the line for mutton dressed as lamb. IMO.
(ETA: Which in this ensemble, puts her squarely in a tacky music video as a MILF)

    • CT14

It’s not even the length of the skirt that’s wrong, it’s the proportions on the skirt that make it look like it was chopped too short.

Her whole look reminds me of the PR “take your roomate’s clothes and make an outfit” challenge. Good job reworking the sweatshirt, but not so much on the making a short skirt out of a short skirt.

    • ThaliaMenninger

She looks cute, but like she mugged Selina Gomez and stole her teenybopper outfit.

    • Bradio311

Probably been said.. but did Suri dress her? I think it would be even to young for her!
